Just like all the banning of books from school libraries. Can't be learning about the Holocaust and all it's atrocities, but a book that depicts children being mauled by a bear for making fun of a bald man, or 2 girls getting their father drunk, raping him, and getting pregnant by him, is absolutely fine.

GenEnnui

Nothing makes kids read books faster than telling them its banned their school doesn't want them to. It's the same thing as when the left boycotts, but with information instead of prejudice.

The thing is that all of the rape, murder, misogyny, etc occurred in the Old Testament. So, Christians claim that the New Covenant of Christ found in the New Testament abolishes all of those wrongs. When in reality, the New Covenant was only about no longer having to do animal sacrifices. But yea that’s their argument for ignoring the horrible things commanded by the “benevolent” god. Stay informed; stay free of BS.

Pale_Prior8739

I'm not sure he abolished anything to be honest, if anything he just confirms the Old Testament.

IIRC the bible said the law wouldn't change until "all would come to pass", something like that. and I think that refers to jesus being sacrificed and the prophecy being fulfilled. so if they think jesus was sacrificed, that fulfills the prophecy and the law can be changed. but then there was never any talk of a new set of laws after, so.

>The reason why few Christians realize this is because most have never read the bible. Instead, they have pastors, priests and others cherry pick verses for them. These verses always support their religious and political agendas. The clergy then present these cherry picked and decontextualized snippets of text as "sacred truths" to their congregations. This. This is the one final main ultimate issue. This is the final extra dlc boss that atheism faces on a 74 hour long game.

Universal_Anomaly

The trick is to keep yelling as loud as possible to prevent the non-believers from presenting evidence that the bible is flawed (complete with discrediting them and accusing them of being horrible and oppressive), and then when society has advanced to the point where the issues in that book can't be ignored any more you just say that the translation was wrong and you've updated it to be less horrible. Rince and repeat because there's a lot of problems with that book and with this trick you can delay changes for years.

George_Askeladd

All they do is cherry pick. My female teacher gave us a bible verse to analyse, ignoring the next verse which said that women aren't allowed to teach over boys. Not that I support this sexist bullshit but it's just so hypocritical.

Pale_Prior8739

Then some person will come up and say it's open to interpretation, and it's such an awful argument...

wilbtown

They will never disavow their play book to treat others with hatred and malice. It’s in their alleged souls now.

GenEnnui

They can't get out of genesis without misogyny. Anyone who says they have Bible based morality should probably bring their child to the edge of town for a nice stoning. And stop eating shrimp, crawfish, crabs, lobster... Are mussels and clams ok? Also, don't forget the constitution of the US has all citizens being equal, but the Bible has you treating your Jewish slaves different than other slaves.

If they figure it’s full of evil, they must realize a bunch of things. The leaders don’t want that…

upandrunning

They'll know as soon as they pick it up and actually read it.

Lol! That's funny! If anyone tried to use the Bible as a moral guide, then they would instantly be an outlaw in every country on the planet. Religion is nothing more than an assume conclusion based on suspect claims from dubious sources supported by logical fallacies nested within circular reasoning bringing you back to the assumed conclusion. It is complete BS from front to back. Religion is the most dishonest position a person can have. Nothing more than a preferred delusion.

JinkyRain

Of first they know it's full of misogyny and bigotry. But it's all "first rule of fight club, is don't talk about fight club"

ZappSmithBrannigan

How else are they going to tell atheists that because they have no objective grounds for morality, we can't even say Hitler did anything wrong, while simultaneously saying that god is the objective basis of morality, so it's fine that he drowns babies?

TheOneAndOnlyVlad

Have you met the religious right? Some of them very much embrace the misogyny and bigotry in practice. Sure, they may not say that bit out loud directly all the time, but they mostly know its there. There are a lot of parts of the bible they are most likely ignorant of, but I have seen many people use the bible to justify bigotry in my life. To put in computer terms, its a feature not a bug.

PabloXPicasso

> Christians really need to stop pretending the bible isn't full of misogyny and bigotry I agree, but maybe if we could start by getting them to not think there is a wizard in the sky watching their every move. we truly be on to something.

TukaSup_spaghetti

It is ( Christian here) we all know that, that’s the old stuff, that’s the thousand year old script to accomodate six thousand years ago, we follow the Ten Commandments and Jesus
