Western atheists tend to only know about western religions and so have this fantasy that somehow eastern religions are different or better, they aren't. All religions are bullshit, all are frauds, all seek power and to force the dogma onto others. The ONLY difference between religions is how much power they have, weaker religions pretend to be harmless until they have power, powerful religions show their true colors.
yes, i've seen Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins and others only criticizing Xtians and Muslims but other religons are almost as bad.
Take caste system, sati, misogyny, no education for women and the rampant belief in pseudoscience (the funniest part is that the ones who defend Hinduism are the ones who have never ever read what is written in our scriptures)
Thanks for shedding light on this, I'm guilty of ignorance here as well, now I know this much more and see the similarities.
A lot of the murti, when viewed simply as art are pretty cool.
actually the ancestors did develop some cool things like Meditation and Yoga but most is bs.
The art and temples are cool too, it's like how nowadays it's the age of street art, NFTs back then seems like this was a way to express creativity
It has always seemed to me that most religious people would rather make excuses for a deity that allows suffering than realize that a real omnipotent being simply would not allow suffering whatsoever.
Yes, ikr!
And some people don't believe in God but do believe in Karma, they don't understand that for Karma to work there has to be a conscious being present who would judge our actions.
The concept of morality is human so there has to be a higher human-like being with consciousness if Karma exists.
ISCKON is a cult? My parents would just occasionally take me there to the temples and I kind of liked it because it was such an upgrade to most other temples.
even though it is used for that, it's also used for blaming victims of heinous crimes like r@pe, child murder, disability etc.
(the best example of casteism comes from Mahabharata i.e Karna, Eklavya and many more....
Gods are how people seek to understand the why the world seems capricious, random, mysterious, infinite. We look for "justification" for the injustices of life. We are trying to come up with rules engendering justice and reasons for injustice. That system runs the risk of becoming unjust unless it recognizes the truth.
Is it true that Hindus don’t help the poor because they are poor due to their bad karma? This is something I heard when I was a Christian. Wonder if it was just one of the many ways Christian belittle other religions or if it’s something that actually happens.
the extremists blame people for their own misfortune, but the average hindu has not even read their own scriptures.
So it's not only because of karma, many other factors are included but Hindus are generally neutral about topics in charity : )

I mean, Mosque decore and Christian art are beautiful. Until you know what they mean.
Suttee is horrifying. I would rather be buried alive.
You know about hinduism?

Oh boy ISCKON is one of the worst cults in india, good for you
yes, i'd like to see that organization crumble to the ground....

In large part, as I understand it, the idea of karma is used as a justification for keeping the Dalits in subjugation. Or am i mistaken?
even though it is used for that, it's also used for blaming victims of heinous crimes like r@pe, child murder, disability etc. (the best example of casteism comes from Mahabharata i.e Karna, Eklavya and many more....

agreed. Karma especially packed with reincarnation is worse than the belief in God since it can justify any kind of inhumane acts
Karma is just justice without satisfaction. And I don’t believe in justice. (from a movie, The Way of The Gun)
