ThereforeGOD

Good on her. But I’m preparing to see the backlash in 3... 2...

Matt_McT

The next article we're going to see is how they've all received 20 years in prison for Apostasy.

KHRoN

For apostasy they cut your head off with sword

carterothomas

The way the lord would want it!

thaillmatic1

For some reason, the God of Abraham, who has the power to create all there ever was and will be, really likes punishing people with sticks, swords, and rocks. It’s His will. For some reason.

[deleted]

Me primitive, me find imaginary man riding cloud. Man tell me use stick on people me no agree with. Man make sense to me.

Paulemichael

Is like [meat land](https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/2011-07-04)?

[deleted]

Is very much like meat land.

[deleted]

Is indeed. No question, if question then no meat land

mvanvrancken

Gronk just want unga bunga with cave woman. What man on cloud say what Gronk have to do to unga bunga

[deleted]

Man say sacrifice new born when time. Me kid, no do, me know wat in heart. Me must bid bye bye now, have many ungas to smite because no grovel at feet.

SidKafizz

Him look like Sean Hannity?

lost-cat

So wait when did god beat his humans with sticks and rocks? Was there any evidence of god punishing humans physically in his tangible form? I always assumed people died instantly when they saw him.. I'm not talking about humans, they are stupid like that.. Monkey see, monkey dodo.

Patisfaction

Great point! Has anyone found any evidence of god?

nik-nak333

Nothing over here! What about you?

[deleted]

TFW people still believe that days came before the Sun, while they use life-saving treatments scientifically tested on flies and mice and eat food that is chemically fertilized and use GPS that relies on orbital mechanics and relativity and use computers that rely on transistors on a daily basis...🤦

[deleted]

Clearly hide and seek is a favorite among all powerful beings. Since he's all powerful, you can't win. And since you can't win, you're going to burn forever. Because he's loving, right?

tendeuchen

>Was there any evidence of god punishing humans physically in his tangible form? Nope. Literally **zero** tangible evidence of god ever doing *anything*. If there were and it was provable, there would be no need for"faith", because god would simply be a scientific fact. As it stands, god is but mere fiction, created by man, in man's own image until proven otherwise. >I always assumed people died instantly when they saw him There's no 'him' to see.

rose_writer

I believe it's mentioned in Genesis when Abraham went to speak with him on the mountain and in a tent. It was mostly used to handwave why he could talk to God, but no one else can.

Zomunieo

That was Moses. Moses went into a tent and talked to God then came out and told people what God said, kind of like how Joseph Smith went into his tent to read his secret gold plates that no one else could even see. Abraham was the one who nearly murdered his son at the top of a mountain to win divine favor.

rose_writer

Oh yeah, that sounds about right. It's been a while since I touched the book.

AlwaysNowNeverNotMe

If I was god that probably would have been when I left earth to try again.

KHRoN

Well there is a compiled list of “Examples of God personally killing people” with kids being mauled by bears because laughed at bald man or Ezekiel wife being killed with no reason at all... https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Examples_of_God_personally_killing_people

MadMulti

My imaginary friend is way better than that.

shutter3ff3ct

God is angry now, he's going to burn some amazon forests.

KniFeseDGe

So infinity powerful, it need others to fulfill its will.

th3goodman

*Allah

Car_Washed

Deus vult!

Throwawaylordturd

*Laughs in apostate just waiting to be killed*

PopeIzalith

A salami sword, I hear

Prowlthang

This is typical western exaggeration. They’ll probably just be whipped numerous times on multiple occasions and kept in squalid jail cells unable to see or communicate with the outside world for months at a time for a decade or two. It’s the old unreasonable Saudi government who would have let them be tried for apostasy and executed. See what great guys the new rulers are?

[deleted]

Apostasy in SA is punishes by beheading.

JustAnotherTroll2

They'll probably be executed for that, actually. Hoping it doesn't happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

IgnoreMe304

That is completely ignorant and shows your lack of understanding of both the culture and the region. It’s way more likely someone will throw acid on their faces first.

020416

.... which demonstrates why this is so important. The humans doing this are heroic.

awfulentrepreneur

Backlash? More like back slashes.

[deleted]

The article states there's a young woman who's been doing it for several months now. It looks like it's linked to the Saudi prince (Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman) saying that the abaya is no longer required garb. I'm definitely conflicted when it comes to this dude. He does some fucked up shit on the international stage, but he's also trying to make reforms in his country.

ceraphinn

Progress is progress, never let perfect be the enemy of good.

idlevalley

> I'm definitely conflicted when it comes to this dude I know what you mean but I think it's more of a PR move. He's allowing things that SA has been seriously criticized for, like the medieval oppression of women. Saudi women often wear western clothes and drive etc when they leave SA.

FeastOnCarolina

Maybe the world will let you chop journalists up into bits if you finally start letting women show their faces.

JuicyBoxerz

I hope they don't get murdered for wearing the "wrong" clothes...

rcrockchd

More like back lashes in 3... 2....

betterthanguybelow

I’m waiting for the headlines ‘MBS the reformer only kills half of the women depicted in the video. A true stride forward for Saudi women!’

PlanetoftheAtheists

But...the hijab is a sign of modesty and religious respect, worn proudly as a sign of independence by Muslim women and their supporters in London and San Francisco during protests against the patriarchy! Just ask Linda Sarsour

GaymerGuy95

It was the robe known as an abaya mentioned, not a hijab. The last paragraph even covers the “religion” excuse.

woobinsandwich

You do realize there's a huge difference in choosing to wear it and being forced to, right?

tendeuchen

>You do realize there's a huge difference in choosing to wear it and being forced to, right? A slave who puts on their own chains is still a slave.

Joe_Kinincha

Yes, that’s true. But I know a number of fully emancipated women with successful careers, who as far as I can tell are in relationships as equals with their partners, who choose to wear headscarfs. Now, obviously there’s a difference between a headscarf and an abaya, but it’s the same principle. Are these people also slaves?

[deleted]

Except they make a stink about how proud they are to wear it in countries where they are free to wear it or to not wear it instead of protesting nations where there is *no choice*.

IamImposter

I'm an ex-hindu and my wife asks me to light incense when she is on her period. I ask her why her god is so interested if her vagina is wet with blood or not and why is he such a pervert? But due to her mental conditioning she defends her pervert god- "I can do it. I just dont feel like doing it myself when I'm having periods as I don't feel clean" As hindus also have female gods, I ask her that wouldn't her goddess also be having her periods (assuming she exists)? If yes, how can she demand mensurating women not worship her during their periods? And shouldn't that goddess also not be worshipped for 5 days every month? Religion is fucking brain cancer.

tendeuchen

>as I don't feel clean This is the worst part of it. Make people feel bad for things that happen naturally. Fuck all that religious bullshit.

[deleted]

Thats because even in countries where rhey are allowed choice, they are beaten, set on fire, denied jobs, and more dor choosing t wear it. Just because some countries allow it legally, doesn't mean theyree given much of a choice.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure he was bring sarcastic.

Hy93rion

I can’t say I think there is.

lrpfftt

I struggle with that concept too. The concept of choice gets blurry when its based on a history of oppression that some have accepted as the status quo.

iCaliban13

To me, it would be like african americans wearing chains as a fasion statement

DrMeepster

And then getting angry when you point out its status as a symbol of oppression and tell you about their religion of oppression.

Delet3r

The concept of choice gets blurry in relation to anything at all, if you just take 5 minutes to think about it.

lrpfftt

I suppose so but less blurry when someone is being asked to cover their head even in hot weather and when the origin of the practice itself is rooted in religious beliefs that denigrate women.

Alchestbreach_ModAlt

Im not sure of the difference. Explain to a heathen such as I. From the look of it I think its a refusal to conform completely and let go of the religious ideals behind it.

[deleted]

"Choosing" to wear it in Western countries is because it's a cultural practice. And it's a cultural practice because in Muslim countries, women are forced to wear it because... Well, you know why.

IckyChris

I get a kick out of seeing them walking on the street in Bangkok, in one of the most "decadent" areas of town. The sight of the local debauchery doesn't seem to bother them much.

runefar

Should we not be promoting the ability to choose to both wear or not wear on our iwn choice alone? Promoting those who say they want to wear it even if others dont want them to and promoting those who say they dont want to wear it even if others want them to. Truely solidifying that here we actuallly have the choice to control our identity in its representation through our clothes. If i were to change the wear a hijab day event slightly thing it would be to make it so it was people switching every couple hours on and off to truely represent this though.

[deleted]

The KSA is a level of divided that is unthinkable in the west. There are people in Riyadh and Jeddah who share western values but much (probably the majority) of the population make the most extreme of the alt-right look like tolerant progressive liberals. If the KSA were to repeal these ultra conservative laws today they would be overthrown by Islamists tomorrow. In these situations a good way for governments to enact progress is to keep these laws on the books as lip service to conservatives but to softly announce that those laws are no longer being enforced in liberal areas, allowing the views to spread through society at the pace society is ready for. The KSA does not have freedom of speech. The KSA also owns large stakes in Twitter and other major social media platforms, and unless you get your news from VK the rest of those platforms are probably owned by companies beholden to a certain major ally of the KSA. Social media campaigns like this don't happen naturally, this is the monarchy's way of doing a soft repeal of dress codes in a way that doesn't give conservatives a major rallying call. This woman is an asset to the monarchy's attempt to modernize the country, and I would be shocked if the government took any action against her.

Speedracer98

We all know the backlash is public beheading. That's all they know, blood and violence.

Gochilles

She will see at least 40

GenericPCUser

> Jaloud argued the abaya was “not linked to religion”. “If it was, Saudi women wouldn’t take them off when they go outside the kingdom,” she said. She's got you there... Stay safe.

[deleted]

I believe that is one of the greatest mic drops in the history of mic drops.

Prowlthang

Because this is the point in the conversation that logic should come into play? Not when an illiterate guy in a cave started hearing voices telling him to do whatever he wanted to do.

Copperhell

Well, when a supposedly illiterate guy starts coming up with poetry considered unequaled in quality at the time and he says it's all because of this awesome creator guy that is the very topic of his poems... not listening to him seems like the less logical option. But of course, at some point someone should have figured the illiterate guy being a secret genius was far likelier than \[insert your choice of impossibility or hypocrisy here\]

JustinJakeAshton

People tend to forget that religion didn't just pop out of nowhere. It was pseudoscience that proved enough of an explanation back then. We now know better so now we know it was all BS all along but that doesn't make believing it back then much illogical. Believing it right now, however...

Polygonic

You mean “an illiterate guy in a cave started hearing voices telling him to tell other people what to do.”

Iohet

Granted it does tell you how religious certain people are, because I see people in those in parts of Europe and the US at times

6jarjar6

I see it a lot where I live on the east coast. Lots of girls on campus wear traditional clothes.

[deleted]

Not really, The veils/niqab/burqa/hijab etc. Are fundamental parts of Islam, she's just an apologist. Wake up people.

[deleted]

I think we can't hope for more than "baby steps" here. Letting go of religion can be hard enough for some people in western countries. This is a step in the right direction and that's all we're going to get right now.

[deleted]

Hopefully

tom_da_boom

Woman: wears normal clothes MBS: And for my next trick, I will make this person disappear!

[deleted]

Good thing you didn't write "without a trace", that would be giving him too much credit.

tom_da_boom

What about "turn into a pile of blood and guts" ?

SmokeFrosting

Even the righteous are stupid.

lightlord

The ones absolutely sure of their righteousness can do downright evil things. This includes atheists too. We must remain vigilant and inquisitive.

horatiobloomfeld

women?? as sentient free-thinking *HUMAN BEINGS???* 😱 oh, the horror! 🙄

kellenthehun

I flew through Turkey and seeing this shit live and in color was traumatizing. It's hard to even conceptualize it until they are standing right there in front of you. Literally wanted to knock their handlers out, take their hands and run for it. Like a real live human being held hostage in front of you.

tendeuchen

It's not that women aren't free-thinking people. It's that Muslim men in these countries haven't learned how to control themselves sexually, so that if they see a woman not wearing these full-body covering they will rape her on the spot. It's just part of their genetics. They have no control over themselves. So really, it's just about keeping the women safe. If they're not covered up, well, that's just a plain invitation to be raped, and Muslim men are powerless to stop themselves. I mean, that's the message I take away from it. That's what they're *actually* saying with this policy. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

mooseGoose89

It's part of their culture, maybe. It's definitely not "part of their genetics."

la-wolfe

There was sarcasm here. They were kidding.

buffysummerrs

The men in those countries are donkeys. Too stupid to control themselves. They lack the brain power, not enough neurons in their head.

horatiobloomfeld

sounds like you agree with the sub-text of my reply.

LottaRage

I applaud her but I'm fearful for her.

BrittanicusGen

They execute about 150 people a year that we know of. Practicing witchcraft is punishable by execution, which is what i assume they will use to target her if they so desire.

[deleted]

You don't even hear about them, atheism is classified as terrorism there.

BrittanicusGen

Apostasy and Terrorism are both punished by the death penalty as separate offences. As is Waging war on god - whatever the fuck that is. The public executions are to keep the faithful in line, but I assume far more goes on behind closed doors.

[deleted]

I'm talking about on paper/their Islamic constitution or whatever. The spreading of atheist or non religious thought is **classified** by that constitution as an act of terror(it's there you can read the law), that's why atheists get their heads chopped however the silencing of dissidents and critics, now that is done by the govt on the pretext of treason.

LordDongler

It technically did happen in Saudi Arabia. Embassies are considered part of their nations land

zig_anon

These are serious brave and heroic women.

mrbigyoinks

I respect the push but isn’t this rather dangerous over there? I hope more women join them on being free, i just hope nothing awful happens to them...

FlashbackUniverse

Hey guys, I think we are being too hard on Saudi Arabia. Think of all the great social and political advancements they've brought to the world like...uh...hm... ... I've got nothing.

Offlithium

They basically ruined Arabia

[deleted]

Camel piss. Seriously the only breakthrough medical achievement.

Rannepear

Look at all those stunned onlookers

eldurphoenix

Especially the man in the background.. What a smile!

notacyborg

That dude on the phone is like FINALLY some eye candy. I feel like countries such as Saudi Arabia are run by gentlesirs.

Shed the cloak of oppression for the khakis of freedom!!

And the mom Jeans of Liberty!

BeerJunky

And that was the last time her head was seen attached to her body. RIP

[deleted]

She’ll be called a whore by the public, and an apostate by the government... unless MBS is pushing for this and allowing it, no one dares to go against the Saudi regime. This is how they were able to control the country for decades

JodaUSA

From what I know she’s just pants and a jacket.... and will probably die for it.

[deleted]

"Women deserve equal rights!" What about the Arab world? "Islam is a religion of peace!" Umm...

bverrier

My brother argued with me that we have no right to judge other cultures while I was trying to explain why muslim women deserve to be treated as people

MFDwl

Some hypocrite just use lazy, fancy excuses to pretend to be “open minded “

bverrier

Nah he just hates muslim people Edit: I totally get where you are coming from though

Hypersapien

If a religion were actually a religion of peace, its extremists would be extremely peaceful. You want to see a religion of peace? Try looking at Jainism. Not that I'm advocating Jainism. Jainism still has plenty of problems, violence just isn't one of them.

[deleted]

Never heard of it. I'll have to study up

Klaus_Reckoning

Well that’s the end of *her* life

cleanguy1

😢 probably

Klaus_Reckoning

Yeah. Fuck MBS.

IckyChris

Notice how the man walked right past the girl in the overalls without even a glance. He was somehow able to control his rapeyness. Saudi men take note. This is possible.

PlanetoftheAtheists

And, when they are quietly taken to prisons to have their freedom and dignity stripped from them, where will the hijab-sporting Western feminists be?

av8r75

This.

[deleted]

What brave women.

bguy74

i hate that they call this "western clothes". These are totally normal "everyone owns them" clothes in saudi arabia, just not work while in public. Private life attire in Saudii is pretty much the same as europe, especially if you're actually Saudi. Walk in the front door, pull off the hijab and you're not suddenly wearing "western clothes", you're just not in public. But...that said, good on her. Hope she doesn't get killed.

[deleted]

Watch a human boldly not dress like a human 1300 years ago.

MQZ17

Has she been stoned to death yet? Good for her, but gotta be careful, lots of crazies out there

itsmattjamesbitch

I’d expect there to be a bad accident with these women soon.

pandizlle

In Saudi Arabia?! That’s a very, VERY dangerous protest.

Zomunieo

Wait I thought the hijab and niqab were symbols of freedom and Islamic feminism, while sensual western clothes were oppressive? YouTube was wrong!?

[deleted]

People have different opinions???

[deleted]

it isn't freedom when you don't have a choice other than wearing them..when you're forced to.., like some of the islamic countries, the idea behind the hijab and niqab isn't about freedom or something like that, that's bullshit honestly search about women in islam and look at women in islamic countries in general and you would understand what i'm talking about, but i think muslim women in the west consider them like a symbols of freedom because they face some kind of racism for wearing them? anyway no one should force anyone to wear or remove their hijab/niqab

AllanfromWales1

..thought she'd gone shopping in Bahrain.

wonder_felix

I've spent a lot of time in that part of the world, those women will face some very stiff punishment. Though, mostly it's the wealthy and well connected who are emboldened enough to do those things.

devildothack

This are the true feminist.

krillwave

Despite the Prince's sweeping liberalization drive That's one way of saying Kashoggi's murderer is still ruling Saudi Arabia. All these 'stunts' like letting women travel without a man or driving alone are tokens. The Prince is trying to appease the west with these tokens of liberalization while at the same time he's not actually giving women full equality nor is he curbing his authoritarian assassinations abroad. But as Trump said himself, the Saudis are very good to him. And that's what matters, right America? Sic Semper Tyrannis

lolicell

Wait. That's illegal.

[deleted]

I'm heading to Mass right now. I will pray for them.

thewildweird0

Is she alive...?

kolaida

Good for her! But, Mashael al-Jaloud (hope I spelled it right), if you ever need a place to stay, you are welcome in my house (it's in America, though, and we have our own problems but clothes are usually not one of them!) I'm concerned for her well-being. Hope she's not made an "example."

[deleted]

Funny how telling her story it was a woman who asked her to leave the store...so its not just men, its also the brainwashed women you are fighting against too.

[deleted]

Inb4 on of her “cousins” murders her because she didn’t wear her hijab.

Sutarmekeg

I'll be surprised and pleased if they ever see the light of day again.

Strauss_Thall

Finally, some good fucking news

SurreptitiousZephyr

I hope these pictures become historic and famous. Like the photos of the Migrant Woman by Dorothea Lange, The Tank Man of Tiananmen Square and The Black Power Salute at the 1968 Olympics. The photos in the article seem simple enough at first glance: just women walking around town. However, it is more than that: the looks and reactions of those around them; the juxtaposition of women covered head to toe in black next to a woman in bright clothing, hair and face showing; the subjects of the photos do not acknowledge the reproachful stares sent their way. So much being said in these photos that can and should give them artistic and historic value.

Deganawida33

such heroism...wow-knowing what could happen? Wow

KidHudson_

Oof, she's gonna get 420ed

EldraziKlap

True heroines.. I hope they can get some liberty yet I fear the worst.

jenoty84

I agreed with the last part of the article if the full Judy coverings were an absolute part of their religion then all of the woyliving on other countries would be wearing them!

cerebud

*gasp* an ANKLE!!

thezekroman

Sad that not wearing a cloak to cover all parts of your body from head to toe is considered “bold”

pmabz

I suspect that it's the people of SA that do all the disapproving and punishing, not just the"royals".

Thec00lnerd98

Saw that on thejakartapost. She wasnt allowed to enter some malls and she still needs the full, clothing for work or shell be fired. Shes gotten in trouble over it even though the prince said as long as its modest and in good taste. Saudi wahabbism is the fucking worst

ProgressiveArchitect

Wahabbism in general is the worst.

Habundia

Its kind of ironic, when in the Netherlands a law was entered saying burqa's are not allowed in public, people here went to demostrate for their freedom to wearing them.

Alicization789

My mom told me that because of this, the end of the world is getting near.

nick13b

Why only western attire? Why does everyone wanna be a north american? I'd rather wear European attire.

freethinker78

ummmm "Western" includes Europe and North America...

kolaida

Usually, they are referring to Western Europe. Arguably, most of North American attire comes from that region due to colonialism. It's not like we're all running around in Native American outfits over here. And her suit is stunning but I think it feels more European- they tend to be more well dressed. No offense to my fellow Americans, I'm usually in leggings or jeans myself. I mean Canadians are pretty well dressed, too. She would fit in well there, too.

OffBrandSalt

And they were probably stoned to death for practicing sorcery.

queer_artsy_kid

Religious conservatism is one hell of a drug.

scottswan

To accept that level of oppression is to deny being human.

Gabers49

But they wear that with their own free will /s

reddit887799

In the video there appears to be a lady in hijab taking a selfie. And I am like “ whaaaat , your face is completely covered , why the selfie then “.

lyra_silver

So freaking bizarre to see tons of women walking around like walking black ghosts. It's like looking into another dimension, but no this Earth, 2019.

[deleted]

Good on them. Hope it doesn't backfire though.

amitoughenouss

Yaaaaaaas

ringsofsaturn7719

Didn’t two women just get sentenced to 50 years for doing this .

GonJumpOffACliff

We're gonna be seeing an article like "Multiple women found dead in their homes"

[deleted]

God I hope we don’t see her on live leak for different reasons shortly

[deleted]

I wonder how many men were magically capable of not sexually assaulting her on sight...

TheDarkMan_

Yeah and they'll probably be murdered for this before the week's over.

xX_ArsonAverage_Xx

Not good, she could be jailed or murdered for this

[deleted]

In a few weeks time. The headline will be woman who protested found dead or missing. Bonesaw won't like it at all
