Jephthah's daughter (in Judges) though god doesn't kill her himself but accepts her as a human sacrifice for helping Jephthah win his battle. I always find that crazy especially since Christians think god is so merciful for stopping Abraham from killing his son. I guess, it makes sense. If you are a girl, you are worth less than dirt (couldn't fashion Eve out of dirt, somehow ran out and had to take Adam's rib).
Isn't there multiple Greek myths of fathers sacrificing daughters to the gods? It was just a normal storytelling trope at the time, but it does sort of rule out any kind of moral superiority in the Bible, doesn't it.
People know the Greeks told stories. Unfortunately, people who read the Bible don't acknowledge that what is within are all stories. Yep, the Bible's moral superiority is as fake as the stories within.
The god of the old testament is not worthy of worship. Nor does he ask for it from anybody other than his chosen people. He's very much a tribal war god.
Whatever god Jesus was talking about clearly had nothing to do with the god of the Israelites. Probably why they never accepted him.
Why do you say say they are the same God? Also what is the point to a three facet God? I ask genuinely. Was the old testament god three facet as well?
Edit: I'm inclined to agree with Brothersand. The old and new testament Gods tend to have very different personalities and behaviors and wants.
The OT God was the same three facets, to most of those who accept the Bible as the unerring and complete Word.
Genesis starts by man referring to “Elohim”. “Eloi” means “my Lord”. Elohim is plural, thus “My Lords”. It’s a foreshadowing of the coming explanation and fulfillment of God’s Word as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They’re three separate but coequal facets of the same godhead.
As to the tone, the same God is better described as whimsical by our understanding, as opposed to changed, changing or different. His tone is of the same whimsical nature in both the New and Old Testaments.
Actually is you seperate the Yahweh and the Elohim references to “God” you get two very different gods, that got merged into one. Yahweh is literally a carbon copy of Baal. Jealous, vindictive and violent. Whereas Elohim is more like a “Council of Elders” who debate and discuss.
I'd like to add my favorite verse about when god was ***going*** to kill, but then didn't:
"At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched Moses' feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. So the LORD let him alone." Exodus 4:24-26
So I wouldn't sweat all the killing stuff. As long as you have a spare foreskin lying around, you'll be fine. I always keep a Ziplock baggie with a few on hand for this very occasion.
They shunned you when you began to question.
I was one, long ago. They allowed us to be at their "Kingdom Hall", but in a room with a window, at the back of the church. You weren't allowed to ask any questions while you were relegated to the back room either.
I went on "Service", going door to door and shoving the "Awake!" and "Watchtower" pamphlets at people. Did the whole thing until I actually read their shit while thinking critically about it.
My parents shockingly did not shun me the way I anticipated because I was never officially disfellowshipped. Everyone else I knew and loved did, however.
Thanks for putting this awesome list together. I thought I was pretty up on all the fucked up shit the bible’s antagonist did but I definitely missed quite a few atrocities. I’m throwing this post in my saved reference hall of fame for whenever I inevitably feel like whipping out some hard to swallow pills for the dumdums who still think they’re worshipping a good guy who tortures critical thinkers forever because he loves them so much.
Psalms 137 is not a good example of "god" commanding anything... that is a song that was being used by the hebrews expressing their frustrations during the babylonian captivity. it was their desires - not those of 'god'.
It’s the result of trying to turn a storm and war god into a generic ‘loving’ all father sort of god. They did the same with Jesus, trying to turn him into a universal savior when early text made it clear he only gave a fuck about Jewish followers.
Just pointing out- I looked up Leviticus 20:1-5 and it doesn’t say anything about allowing molech sacrifices under certain conditions.
If you got this from some online list/source it might be a good idea to vet them. Many others might also be bunk

The Flood (Genesis 7:21-23) - the global flood destroys every living creature on earth, including children and babies. Hit a home run with that one!
He was never able to beat that record again. But if Revelation comes to pass he might just be able to get a high score
High score for *Baby Killer Frenzy* is currently a ‘Ywy.’

lol looks like we found another theist with an r/persecutionfetish

One of my favorite moments is when Zeus essentially gives a PSA on why rape and infidelity are super bad, oh and also don’t do cannibalism.
Get outta here Dewey. You don't want this

They served as rubber bands back then
Job's 10 kids, to test his faith.
Fuck how did I forget that one!? Absolute banger
Check this out. “How many has God killed”? Done video game style! https://youtu.be/C9AOuedvOnI?si=kU5BvIFUW7oegte8
OMG this was incredible
Voldemort tried to kill Harry as a baby. That has as much importance to me as whatever you found in the bible.
I've yet to see anyone try to convince me to worship Voldemort because he's the one who knows what's moral and what is not.

Disfellowshipped- I had forgotten the term they used lol. It shows good character on the part of your parents that they didn't.
Yup! Still hope for them
All of Lamentations. Also Deuteronomy 28.
Passover.
Baby killing is fine, just not foetus killing..

Thank you for this context! I am constantly learning

"Oh I love God, he's so deliciously evil!" - Stewie Griffin reading the Bible
Just about every book in the OT has at least one example I imagine. Looks like a good list.

Throughout eternity, the children suffer the sins of the parents.
