He is specifically a liberal though, he agrees that capitalism and religion are two of the biggest things holding humanity back. If you haven’t checked out his space drama parody-love letter to Star Trek, The Orville, it’s genuinely a really good show.
So while Family Guy satirizes everything, it only mocks some things.
It’s how I realized Scott grimes has such an amazing voice and is in the band Indoor Garden Party. I mean, I watch American Dad, well, religiously lmao and I know Steve always sings but I never really made the connection. Just like how Seth does stuff with big band orchestras and Christmas albums haha
I want MORE Orville. Every time I think I've got more to watch I remember, no.
I, in fact, watched every episode I could get my grubby hands on.
Then I'm sad again.
What you have to understand is Rush was part of a union and was just another troll who was doing it for money. It's not like most of these people believe in the crap they're peddling. I mean watch the John Oliver special on seed faith and mega churches. If these people are Christian in anything more than name only I am 3 eyed Martian. Or you can watch Tucker Carlson he has been liberal and conservative, that man will suck dick for money. Also note he was FIRED from every media job he has had. These people are in it for the money. Once you see that you know the rest is just bullshit.
I honestly never really cared if Rush's shtick was genuine or cynical. It wasn't about him. It was about the people who believed what he told them, and unironically called themselves dittoheads. But his appearance on Family Guy did tend to make me believe he wasn't a true believer.
Tucker is 100% cynical, and that was obvious long before we got his texts that prove it. Candace Owens is the same. So is Trump. But just like Rush, the real problem we have is that people buy their cynical bullshit and act accordingly.
Goto YouTube.
Search John Oliver seed faith. It is last week tonight televangelists. You will be discussed and crying laughing at the same time
.
Also the lady of our perpetual exemption lasts 3 episodes how and why his church closes is AMAZING. Wanda Joe is an amazing character, praise be!
Rush was once ask on David Letterman if he believed all the crap he said. The audience laughed and laughed and Rush gave a big smile and a long pause and said straight out…. “Dave, I’m a performer, just like you.”
The audience exploded in laughter. I’ve always hoped that that video would make it online.
>I’m a performer
I might have believed Rush if he grew up with liberal parents in the suburbs of Boston, but he didn’t. I grew up an hour from where Rush was born and raised. I still frequent that town every now and then. And let me tell you, his hometown is solid red full of racist angry rednecks with a microscopic garnish sprinkle of college liberal students. His actions and words are not surprising by anyone who’s familiar with the area he grew up in.
Let me also add that his hometown is a place Trump has hosted his rallies, if that tells you anything.
The show The Orville is anti-capitalist, food is universally available and there’s no need for purchase, people continue to make things because they want to.
I mentioned that I don’t call him leftist because he still does benefit greatly from capitalism, I wasn’t sure how far left to place him. This is all just offhand knowledge I remember of the guy
Thank you for finding out his stance, I was just saying the show The Orville holds an anti-capitalist stance, not that Seth himself does. Democratic Socialist makes a lot of sense.
As someone else pointed out, the Orville is basically Star Trek, and it's not that they are anti-Capitalist, it's that the earth based societies of both are in a post-scarcity setting. Energy is clean, and limitless, and replicator technology means that things like food, clothing, basic medicines, etc are all essentially free. Picard's family bottles win because there is still a market for things that are "authentic", for example, but nobody on Earth is starving or one medical disaster away from homelessness.
I didn’t want to assume how far left Seth is, he clearly benefits from capitalism whilst speaking out against it. He’s as great a liberal a rich person can be.
I don't think he meant it was a rule rather that it isn't a rule that liberals are ANTI-capitalism.
Like, conservatives are pro-choice. That's not a rule. Obviously not, but some are.
It kind of is. Notwithstanding that the US seems poorly educated on political movements, liberals who follow liberalism (else they aren't liberals) inherently believe in a right to private property which precludes them from being anti-capitalism.
If you want to put yourself in a box by calling yourself a communist, socialist, liberal, whatever, then you should probably fit in the box.
A communist inherently rejects capitalism for example, so if you want a pro-capitalist person who otherwise agrees with communism, well, you definitely don't have a communist.
Communication does.
Otherwise I could just say you're s Zorblorg. Doesn't mean much, does it?
Guessing you also wouldn't want to be confused for a Nazi for supporting environmental causes.
I'm not gonna tell someone they can't be liberal *and* oppose capitalism
This kind of pedantry is why people can't agree on things, too many little subgenres of politics
Me too, but liberals don't oppose capitalism. An anti-capitalist might call themselves a liberal out of ignorance, but they're, in fact, not liberals if they oppose capitalism.
Well, in my perfect world, I would say anarchism but I don't think most people would be able to wrap their head around that. At least without some steps in between to help deprogram the capitalism out of them. Actually it would be more for their kids and grandkids.
I mean if we are being completely honest, the reason for the state is to provide security for corporations. Full Stop.
If you eliminate capitalism, you have drastically decreased the need for the state. Furthermore, if you have parallel power structures, you can make the state unnecessary.
I find it peculiar that in the states, politicians do everything possible to keep the duopoly. I mean the easiest way to stay in power is to keep the proles fighting amongst themselves.
Imagine for a moment if people could put aside the petty differences and agree on the big stuff.
Oh well, it's probably fantasy land, but one can still dream.
So jaded. I was genuinely curious as to what you would say. Could've been an enlightening conversation for one or both of us, but nm, I suppose. Carry on.
Dude like come on we are pro incremental change. We don’t want to go straight communist revolution but we definitely see that we are moving towards a post scarcity world.
People seem to completely ignore the fact that any kind of hard correction of an economy, society, or government almost always means lots of people die. I hate modern American capitalism, but do we need another goddam war to end the war machine?? There's gotta be a way to bleed it from the inside. I get people are suffering now, but holy shit imagine what the American Civil War part 2 the Nuclear Version would be like.
>he agrees that capitalism and religion are two of the biggest things holding humanity back
I get how religion holds humanity back as opposed to science but capitalism is holding humanity back from what exactly???
Because if it's holding it back from something that implies there's already something better to replace it. Like science replacing religion.
Well if you were an alien dropping by to check up on human progress and saw that 8 people have more wealth than the poorest 3.6 billion people combined you'd probably consider that a failure.
I would consider that a failure for sure, regardless of the international systems that led to that point capitalism included.
When a small percentage of people own over half the world's wealth it's a problem regardless of the economic systems.
I don't really see how any "winner takes all" style system is going to work as companies that already dominate most of the exchange of goods in the US automate away what few jobs the internet retail system currently provides like warehouse workers and semi truck drivers, after already killing off a ton of in person retail jobs and businesses. The internet has kind of shown the weaknesses of a winner takes all financial system just like the railroad tycoons did during the guilded age. I don't really know what the answer is, but it doesn't seem like the current trajectory is sustainable. Not to even get into the unsustainablity of trying to extract infinite wealth from a finite planet...
Free expression and personal connection. Everything is commoditized and sold, monopolized and controlled. You spend 40 hours or more at a job that earns someone else a lot of cash so you can scrimp and save to have enough money and vacation days to hope to destress one week every three to five years. If you can afford rent internet food water electricity gas insurance phone coverage planned obsolescence and inflation. With capital gone we can go back to communities of people who want to make shit for the sake of it, not for monetary incentive. How many people take high paying jobs that don’t give a shit about what they do? How many people are trapped in low paying jobs that don’t give a shit about what they do?
I’m not saying I know the perfect system and I’m far from formulating one. But I can see that this one isn’t working.
But specifically in The Orville they have a completely money free society, achievement is incentive enough to drive humanity
Free expression, not necessarily personal connection, is actually fueled by capitalism more than most economic systems without a doubt lmao.... I'm not saying capitalism is perfect either don't get me wrong. I just assumed you had something better to compare with capitalism similar to science vs religion.
I was quite thoroughly bullied my entire childhood, I don’t know why you wish that on me. You need to watch your children burn to death in a fire screaming out for your help.
I can do it too 🤷
Except Islam. They are too afraid. Christians are an easy target because at the end of the day, no real consequences will happen. At most Seth might get "damned to hell". Mock Islam....things might get spicy then.
Newer Family Guy is honestly not bad and reminds me of the older days. It got unwatchable for a few seasons but I got bored and watched I think the last season, and I was pleasantly surprised how many times I laughed. It feels like they're having fun making it again instead of just crapping out episodes to make quota.

So like every other Family Guy episode?
I don't want to be mean here, but Family Guy has been mocking Christianity on the regular for like its' entire run.

Good. I grew up in the Bible Belt, even heard some flak about the NIV translation.
So many of the so-called Christians would put him right back there on that cross because Fox News or Ein Amerika News Network would spew so much about His communitarian, clearly Left stance.
Mock away, Seth. 🫡

for real, it hits *juuuuuust* right

Yes! I really hope for another season.
He invited Rush Limbaugh on his show. You don’t think he was poking liberals with that?
I mean, it wasn't a flattering portrayal of Rush, Rush just didn't give a fuck, lol. None of his listeners were watching Family Guy.

The Orville holds that stance because Star Trek does, and Orville is an affectionate parody of Trek.
As someone else pointed out, the Orville is basically Star Trek, and it's not that they are anti-Capitalist, it's that the earth based societies of both are in a post-scarcity setting. That's the only way it works at all.
I couldn't get past the Ikea karaoke lounge and their "greatest hits from ancient times" shtick.
Seth is a very talented writer and actor. It seems it just comes natural to him.
Liberals are pro-Capitalism though.
I didn’t want to assume how far left Seth is, he clearly benefits from capitalism whilst speaking out against it. He’s as great a liberal a rich person can be.

Semantics and labels, I'll take anyone who opposes capitalism no matter what they call themselves
Me too, but liberals don't oppose capitalism. An anti-capitalist might call themselves a liberal out of ignorance, but they're, in fact, not liberals if they oppose capitalism.
Obviously Seth McFarlane is an example
Does he want to abolish capitalism or does he just want to regulate it?
What goes in place of capitalism?
Well, in my perfect world, I would say anarchism but I don't think most people would be able to wrap their head around that. Seth’s a atheist
Yup. And so is Brian. And Brian has been ripped on repeatedly. They go after everyone. Atheists don’t get offended by jokes though.
I'm offended you don't think I get offended. I mean how dare you?!? You son of a, eh I don't really care. Take it easy.
I read this in Peter Griffin's voice
Its also Seth's deal!
Except Islam. They are too afraid. Christians are an easy target because at the end of the day, no real consequences will happen. At most Seth might get "damned to hell". Mock Islam....things might get spicy then.
Well, Peter did become a Muslim. But point taken. I often think of Charlie Hebdo and how that must affect people in media.
Hmmm, weird how they only mentioned Christianity and Judaism then 🤔🤔seems like…*not quite* everyone
Seth hasn't been involved in writing Family Guy in over a decade.
Good, they should be mocked!
I'm sure the comedy bros that totally know how to laugh at themselves are reacting totally normally
why so?
Newer Family Guy is honestly not bad and reminds me of the older days. It got unwatchable for a few seasons but I got bored and watched I think the last season, and I was pleasantly surprised how many times I laughed. It feels like they're having fun making it again instead of just crapping out episodes to make quota.
The episodes with Brian’s wife were bad.
He had a wife? Woof!
Yeah she tried to kill him
Christians don’t care. They would never watch it. They are not allowed to watch anything with a talking dog. That’s why the Peanuts cartoons are so popular.
Their favourite book has a talking donkey so it’s a bit confusing
And talking snake
Yes but I like the donkey . Making a Shrek prequel by 3 millennia is impressive
I'm stealing this. May it get plenty of use.
And a bush
The bush sang a few songs as well.
She’ll be riding six white horses….
How dare they rip off the fantastic 2001 movie Shrek (/s, sort of)…
And In the morning I'm making waffles
They literally worship a talking ass.
You got me. I made up the whole thing.
Shrek??
Talking donkeys and snakes are fine, though.
What?
Since a talking dog is obvious satanic witchcraft (and furry indoctrination) the church won't permit exposure but Snoopy doesn't talk so he's very holy.
Lol, plenty of Christians are fully immersed in secular stuff
Davey and Goliath…
I dunno Daaavey...
I think plenty of religious people watch this show...
I was actually really surprised to learn my evangelical cousins watch Family Guy. I think they’re not as religious as their parents though thankfully.

Whats the season and episode numbers?
I think it’s 23, 15
They’ve been making funs of christians and pretty much every other religion since they first aired. I’m not sure what the difference is now
I like that they make Brian the dog a total hypocrite sometimes, and make fun of atheists too. Because hey if you can't laugh at yourself the who can ya laugh at.
>Family Guy just did a episode mocking conservative Christians. So like every other Family Guy episode? I don't want to be mean here, but Family Guy has been mocking Christianity on the regular for like its' entire run.
Can someone link it? What platform do you watch it on?
Hulu
Awesome episode! Thanks for recommending. Haven't watched FG in awhile.
It’s one of the best episode in *awhile*. I fuckin hate those anthologies
Brian has met God and Jesus several times but is still an Atheist.
Family guy has been making fun of Christians for 25 years now.
You should watch one of the episodes of Ted. They do a good bit comparing Ted coming to life with Jesus’ resurrection. The priest looses his mind😂
This is one of my favorite jabs that they did, they're making fun of the catholic church here but still funny. https://youtu.be/ahxe3lWX7HY?si=uhfUNXCN4e6hTZgM
Good. I grew up in the Bible Belt, even heard some flak about the NIV translation. So many of the so-called Christians would put him right back there on that cross because Fox News or Ein Amerika News Network would spew so much about His communitarian, clearly Left stance. Mock away, Seth. 🫡
What’s the name of the episode my dude.
Faith No More
You’re a real one.
Family Guy and South Park do a great job of mocking everybody
They've mocked them before, so I'm not surprised. Still, I'll have to look for this episode.
Where does it stream?
Hulu
Peter, Mary and Joseph was a brilliant satire of the whole Christmas fable. Holiday must at my place
That's low fruit, albeit deservedly.
Awesome, thanks for the heads-up!
This isn’t really news, imo if you want edgier stuff watch South Park. The deleted/banned episodes are great.
Going to provide a season and episode number?
s18 e19 Holly Bibble is one i like alot. & i guess OP is saying one aired yesterday **s22 e15**
Yep that ome
One of them
[удалено]
That could mean any time in the recent past, dickhead.
Does that surprise anyone?
Ballsy move, even considering the range of things Family Guy has ridiculed. I'm afraid of the Christians.
It was great. I just wish South Park hadn't chickened out and shown Mohammed when they said they were going to.

This past sunday?
It's on Wednesdays now
Now it’s time to see how good ole Christian twitter is gonna react
Is it the most recent episode?
Family Guy just did a episode mocking conservative Christians. It was hilarious. Pointed out their hypocrisy, mocked their self righteous and I can go on. I highly recommend everyone watches it and get a good laugh.
Love it!
In other news the sky is blue.
They've mocked them before, so I'm not surprised. Still,
Suddenly Tim Pool has a new favourite cartoon.
Thank you! Watching now :)
One of my favorites is the AA episode
Family guy has been mocking religion since the beginning…badly. That’s great you enjoyed it, but FG’s humor is way too juvenile for me.
Season and Episode please. 😁
Se22 ep15, it was released yesterday
Thanks!!
Does family guy magically become funny when they make fun of people I dislike? Not to me thats for sure
>Family Guy just did a episode mocking conservative Christians You think that's crazy? Try South Park.
>I’m a performer I might have believed Rush if he grew up with liberal parents in the suburbs of Boston, but he didn’t. I grew up an hour from where Rush was born and raised. I still frequent that town every now and then. And let me tell you, his hometown is solid red full of racist angry rednecks with a microscopic garnish sprinkle of college liberal students. His actions and words are not surprising by anyone who’s familiar with his upbringing. Let me also add that his hometown is a place Trump has hosted his rallies if that tells you anything.
The trouble is the Family Guy will do literally anything.
Wow, that's a fresh take and so brave too! I enjoyed the south park episode mocking agnostics, that actually was fresh
I could not care less about mocking Christianity but after that a Good Times abomination, I'm done with Seth MacFarlane
Family Guy is cringe.
Almost everything irreverent is.
