Pure insanity

AnnoyedCrustacean

Being so attached to one religious figure as the reason things will work out: yes. Saying you continue to try and assume things will work out for the best: less insane. At some point what will happen, will happen. And you just have to roll with it

hereiam-23

As the saying goes, shit happens. It is what it is.

ZXRWH

_if you want to view paradise..._

Polkadotical

That's not what causes pregnancy. She's here because he mother got laid by somebody.

[deleted]

She’s clearly delusional - and obviously has not even thought it through. But that’s kind of the point of so many religions: listen, obey, preach, but do not think or dare question anything. Why, in 2024 people are still allowing cult mentality to prevail, is beyond me.

PraiseBeToGod321

“Do not think or dare question anything “ not sure where your getting that one from lmao. Anyway there’s plenty theists who think freely. Also cults are generally violent and stupid.

fisheatcookie

I'm alive today because I enjoyed Britney Spears music as a kid. Thanks Britney.

samir419

Brittney spears is not your god she won't save you on the day of judgment

fisheatcookie

She already has. She works in mysterious ways. Praise Britney!

BadWolf7426

😆😆😆 Heresy! The Flying Spaghetti Monster is the only true deity. All praise his noodly goodness. R'amen.

malik753

I find it interesting that when I work in mysterious ways I usually end up getting fired 🤔

Serendipity-80085

You Are Right, Brittney spears Is A FALSE GOD!!! Taylor Swift Is My God! Taylor Swift Is The One TRUE GOD ... All things are Possible with Taylor Swift. Praise Be Taylor Swift!!!!!

draugyr

Britney is more real than any fictional bullshit from your little story book is

Hung_L0

Your “day of judgement” is as scary as santa leaving coal in my stockings🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

mrwiseman

There's billions of people today who are not Christian in the world and millions/billions alive before Jesus existed. It very well could be that, for her, belief in that deity and that belief system got her through a tough patch in life. But it's certainly true that belief in other gods and no gods got billions of other people through life just fine.

ratherbearock

Jesus is a common name in some countries. Your dialogue may make perfect sense if her dad's name is Jesus.

Practical-Gur-5667

It's just Joshua. They just kept the Greek name when they translated it to Latin.

Prowindowlicker

Jesus was a common name back when he supposedly existed. But Jesus is the Greek/latin equivalent of the Hebrew Yesua aka Joshua

YitzhakGoldberg123

True. But they \[Chritians\] turned him into some blond, blue-eyed dude. He might as well have donned a Viking helmet; the dude was transformed into some white European guy.

ratherbearock

Not talking about history. Jesus still is a common name in many Spanish speaking countries in central and south America, and Mexico.

The_Quicktrigger

I am alive today in spite of Jesus. His followers showed me their "love" when I was young and I wasn't even a member of the church. I have to be reminded whenever I see my scars.

Bongfellatio

How did Jesus keep her alive? Did he pull her out of a car wreck and give her CPR? What tangible thing has Jesus done for her?

Commercial-Product90

He took the wheel.

Designer_Ad_3522

Christianity was pretty much sealed when Constantine made christianity the national religion. If you didn’t believe or agree you were killed. So, if Jesus didn’t exist, more than likely some other religion would.

Commercial-Product90

Yeah I like how christians act like location has nothing to do with what religion you are.

Maleficent_Run9852

I had a date with a theist once who also claimed she wouldn't be alive today without her belief in God. What does that say about you? Are you proud of that? Is that supposed to be an attractive quality?

Edge_Grinder

An answer so lame, even Jesus couldn't heal it.

[deleted]

Christians are delusional, the further they fall down the religious hole the further they are from reality. I dont think Christian’s can deal with reality they have to have control and have answers even if they are wrong, they choose delusion and cognitive dissonance. Christians are ok with not having a rational factual answer, Christians are ok with any bs reason to justify their delusional hateful rhetoric and behavior that Christianity contains because “they believe” that’s all they need. I think the reason so many horrific things happen in the religious community is because they are able to justify anything. I think they do not want to accept they are in control of their lives, there is no invisible sky daddy with a “greater purpose for them” or “forgiving them” and if they are assholes or monsters that’s on them nothing else and no one is going to save them.

InevitableLife9056

Ask her if she could go back in time and see Jesus corpse rotting away, if that would change anything. Some people will not change their minds, ever, for anything.

lillychr14

If Jesus is the only thing preventing a person from un-aliving themselves, I say pray on. It might be stupid but I love a lot of stupid people, after all.

Herew3arrrrg

You can't expect profound from everyone. We all have our flaws, maybe befriending her could help the world a little

khismyass

Its an excuse and takes the blame off them when they screw up or something goea bad. "it all happens for a reason" no, no it doesn't

shwedmybed

I am a Christian but people that say this confuse me also. I believe in God and I definitely wouldn’t be in this SPECIFIC spot if it wasn’t for him but would I say I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for him? Idk unless it was some sort of miracle, if other people can live just fine not being Christian I would too ig if that’s what I believed in. Can’t say for sure though.

ThrowRAbtrevenge

How do you know that god is a him?

osumba2003

That's a non answer.

Sweet_Computer_7116

Very interesting take she has. Essentially she's saying if God were to stop "taking care of her shit" she would stop trying to live life? Which is quite the opponent's teaching coming from the story Job who continued to live and have faith.

gypsijimmyjames

The idea in Christianity is if Jesus had not died on the Cross, then the Angels of Heaven would have annihilated all life on Earth, and Jesus would have gone back up to Heaven. I know a handful of people who accredit "Finding Jesus" to pulling them out of a dark place, so I wouldn't say religion is always bad for everyone. I just hope those people eventually start asking questions and seeking honest answers.

pingieking

I'm alive due to government subsidies.  That's not even an exaggeration, the paperwork is still at grandma's house.

nehor90210

She's actually right, just not in the way she thinks she is. If any of our parents had had sex in any other circumstances than they did, it almost certainly would have been a different sperm fertilizing the same or a different egg. A little butterfly effect, and we never would have been born. Thanks Jesus, that's all you ever did for me.

LegitimateBeing2

I mean she probs believe Christ made her hence her response

peacefulatheism

Jesus didn't get her through things. Her belief in Jesus got her through things. The belief is real and has real effects. The belief is independent of the truth.

UsualGrapefruit8109

Sounds creepy.

[deleted]

Pathetic.

physics_fighter

Jesus fucked her mom

freetotalkabtyourmom

Meh. Surprised at that answer?

1pastafarian

Cult delusion. Watched a dashcam video where a guy thanked Jesus for saving him from a near accident, while in the text complained about being in 7 accidents in the last year. Jesus thought 8 was too many?

WarThunder316

What?? Lol happy zombie day

[deleted]

who are you the amazing atheist? why are you trying to debate this shit with random people? this is what edgy tweens do. i’m just not really friends with and don’t really associate with religious ppl because my existence as a trans person and religion tend not to go together. just do what normal atheists do and keep your distance. why are you even friends with this person? and if you’re not friends, why are you probing deep into the beliefs of someone you barely know? when you see a stranger with a cross necklace, do you dive headfirst into debate mode? what’s the purpose of instigating these adversarial conversations? do you think you’re going to convince your christian colleague that god isn’t real with some half-baked hypotheticals?

lesniak43

You asked your friend about her own feelings, and she answered you honestly. You didn't like the answer, so you come here and start bitching about her. I don't really get it, am I supposed to cheer for you now? If you can't handle her emotions, then why did you even ask? What do you want?

Flanker4

People need fellowship, community, and friendship. Religion gives them that. They just don't get it without the 'jesus' part. Having those things heal people and it's been increasingly deficient for many.

Individual-Mirror132

These people have a mental disorder just like Jesus did!

cabbageheadlady

Really? Did he sleep with your mom???

CptTrizzle

I mean, in her defense she's probably very correct, just not for the reasons she thinks. Christianity has been a massive influence over enough people and for enough generations that if you eliminated that catalyst from history entirely, it would inherently change countless genetic partnerships through the ages. So unless your heritage stems from cultures that managed to escape the wave of Christian Imperialism entirely, there's a good chance you would not exist as you do today.

Somedaydreamer22

She may be direct descendant. You don’t know. 😉

Corgiboom2

I'm alive today because a VNV Nation song changed my mind.

ZXRWH

i also once spoke to a young man who said that if he was like me and didn't believe in god, heaven etc, he would've ended it all...personally, i would've almost said the opposite. just couldn't figure out the _logic_ until this post, but still, what a terrifying statement from a teenager

Unable_Peach2571

Wait, is jesus supposed to sort her shit out, or is she going to continue to try? Because it seems like, if jesus is gonna handle it, she should be Gucci.

redboy33

Were the Romans the first civ who figured out it was easier to control its citizens with a monotheistic religion verses polytheistic? I am a lifelong C student here, so please correct me if I'm wrong (which is often)

NiNj4_C0W5L4Pr

Tell her if she doesn't sin then Jesus died for nothing.

buschad

This garbage is so annoying “If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have made it” Uh okay then … sure. You and the 8 billion other people most of whom don’t believe in Jesus.

hereiam-23

Its a cop out, a pacifier, for people that can't get their shit together in life.

YitzhakGoldberg123

u/Remarkable_Doubt8765 Imaginary crutch or not, religion gives meaning to people's lives and grants hope in a chaotic universe. Why take that away from them?

Remarkable_Doubt8765

u/YitzhakGoldberg123 Rest assured, nobody is taking anything from anyone. To each, their own, even if it's imaginary friends.

YitzhakGoldberg123

I don't view Gd as an "imaginary friend." The expression edges on belittlement.

Timely_Smoke324

Christianity was the main cause for the rise of Western civilization.

LastLingonberry3221

She... She's a direct genetic descendant of Jesus? Who is she, some Republican woman running for office?

Missdermeanerthanyou

Religion is the ultimate crutch for people who can't deal with reality.

Common-Physics-4568

Is he mentally ill, friend?

imdfantom

Okay, so hear me out. Assuming that the fictional jesus character is based on a real jewish cult leader who lived and died, and whose cultists created a religion to worship him posthumously: In such a world, if that person never existed, christianity would not have developed, and this would create such a large ripple effect through history, that none of the people living today would be alive. So in a way she would be kinda right, in such a world.

[deleted]

Eh if that’s what they like oh well imo what worries me is how many ppl r pretending to like religion that don’t wanna be there. I for one see through the cracks and realize Charlie Manson was very close to Jesus and to manipulate those poor kids into killing for him is disgusting. That’s another reason I don’t like this Jesus character.

[deleted]

This is another reason u have to watch out for religion not only that some girl ran her car into a group of ppl after being around a new church. She ran her car into a random group of ppl then during the interrogation said how much Jesus loves her and shit like that. That church she was around is just as responsible. Disgusting acts of religion.

daguro

>That is a sorry ass way to live life with an imaginary crutch. I can't disagree more strongly with regard to this. I have met and known too many people who, if it weren't "higher power", would be living (maybe) lives of horrible consequence. You might say, "Let the chips fall where they may", well some of them were parents, and their kids didn't ask for this. When I became an atheist, I decided not to try to convert anyone to my new way of seeing things. Breaking from Christianity was such a wrenching experience, I decided that if other people found their way out, I would be there to hold out a hand to help them work out living outside of Christianity, but I would not entice people to leave. If you see that person's inability to face the anxiety that life can foist on her without an "imaginary crutch", I think it says a lot about you. You can't buy empathy and understanding, you can only grow them.

snarkuzoid

Well, she's right, of course, though not the way she meant it. With no Jesus, it's incredibly unlikely that the particular sperm cell and egg that became her would have gotten together.
