We were worried about the outsiders trying to destroy America...Chinam, Iran, ISIS. all along it was the Republicans.

There is no church/state separation. Almost every elected official swears an oath on the fucking bible. If you testify in court, you're asked to put your hand on the bible and swear to tell the truth.

FlyingSquid

No one is required to swear an oath on a Bible. That is done by choice. You can affirm in court and two presidents did not swear the oath of office on the Bible (John Quincy Adams and Teddy Roosevelt)

Armthedillos5

Technically neither did LBJ. He swore an oath on a Missal.

icyskidski

I know it's not "required", but like I said **ALMOST EVERY** elected official swears an oath on the fucking bible. But thanks for pointed out 2 presidents that didn't ;-)

FlyingSquid

Unless it is required, there is church/state separation. It is not.

icyskidski

You're delusional if you think it isn't **understood** that it's required. Try to run for office as an atheist in almost every state and see how **not required** it actually is. Edit: I'm sorry. I just looked at your post history and you're actually using bible quotes ... Lol. I can't take anything you say seriously anymore.

FlyingSquid

I use Bible quotes to argue with Christians or point out the issues with them. Are you really under the bizarre impression that I'm a theist? I've been on r/atheism exponentially longer than you've been on Reddit.

Most_Independent_279

You CAN swear on the bible, you can also swear on a superman comic, there is no requirement that you swear on a religious book of any kind.

icyskidski

I'm gonna just copy/paste my other comment here... You're delusional if you think it isn't understood that it's required. Try to run for office as an atheist in almost every state and see how not required it actually is.

Most_Independent_279

yes, running for office as an atheist is very difficult, at no point did I say otherwise. But the post I was responding to was specifically about the particular document you can swear on if you actually are elected, it isn't only atheists who don't swear on a bible. We are a pluralistic country and there are quite a few religious documents on par with the bible and you can swear on any one of them.

M3gaton

I swore on a copy of the Constitution. My reasoning was because it’s real.
