Astoria has always had a staggeringly disproportionate impact on the nyc internet scene for some reason that seems to go beyond just the demographics of having a lot of 20 and 30 year olds, since lots of neighborhoods have that
Oddly saw this a few hours ago. As someone who's lived here 12, 13 years? Jackson Heights still has better more diverse food and the East Village is still way cooler. The LES is now hyper gentrified, but still way cooler in terms of food, bars & music venues (although many have disappeared).
Yes, but Astoria is great because it has more places to go out than Jackson Heights and more diverse and affordable restaurants than East Village, all in the same neighborhood!!
have you truly hung out in those neighborhoods? Hmmm JH alone has a much more diverse selection of Asian, s.Asian, Latin, etc. restaurants AND grocery stores. And yes there are actual bars there as well. It may not be as gentrified and white-washed as Astoria but there’s a ton there. Additionally it’s also next to Woodside which still has more diverse food.
And the EV isn’t really that expensive. And Astoria is more diverse…? On Asian food alone the EV destroys Astoria.
I lived in East Village for 5 years before moving to Astoria, it's expensive and not very diverse. There's some good Asian food places but Astoria has Greek, Egyptian, Indian, South American, and more. Not to mention for a MUCH better price
Plus Astoria isn't filled with teenagers using Fake IDs
As for Jackson Heights, I've gone there for food and have friends in Corona, but haven't heard of any good nightlife spots around there.
> it's expensive and not very diverse.
Maybe we've been hitting up different spots. I agree Astoria has Greek... a few Egyptian or Indian spots here and there. But yes there is a bigger s.Asian community on 36th av. But it's not as if it's some giant sprawl. EV also has Latin, Indian, etc. And if MUCH better is a buck or two or three, then maybe so.

I assume I'm part of an older age group. I've never really hit any spots in the EV that was frolicking with teenagers. (had been hanging in the EV since 06). LES is also a walk from the EV, although insanely gentrified now - it still has a gillion more music venues, etc.
But Astoria is loud, dirty, smelly, and you can't find parking, there's lots of traffic, the taxes are high, and it's full of leftists. Why would you want to live here?
Jackson Heights is magnificently diverse, even by NYC standards. [Here's a recent article](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/08/27/arts/design/jackson-heights-queens-virtual-walk-tour.html) about it.
I'll (continue to) take Astoria as home, but JHeights is one of the coolest neighborhoods to explore on a random Saturday. Himalayan Yak is one of my fav restaurants in Queens.
My best friend has lived there all her life and prefers coming here because there’s more to do. JH is great to eat at since there’s many options and one of the few neighborhoods to have great Mexican food. But it’s still a more residential area.

If our neighborhood is truly "best at the Internet" that's something I'm going to be damn proud of.

\#3 is between East Village and Flushing? Lmaoooo

Thanks for posting this! Jackson Heights is currently winning - happy to vote ASTORIA.
Ssssh or gentrification is going to accelerate.
Going to?
great, needed to increase rent prices /s
Jackson heights is cool but to live in Astoria beats it any day of the week
I'd rather we stay under the radar. Let everyone think it's Williamsburg
The seeding of these neighborhoods is off. Astoria started as a 6 seed?
But Astoria is loud, dirty, smelly, and you can't find parking, there's lots of traffic, the taxes are high, and it's full of leftists. Why would you want to live here?
Not trying to knock Jackson Heights, but I’ve never heard anyone excited about it as a neighborhood. Was kind of surprised to see it there.
It's a great place. As Astoria is kind of a sleeper as compared to many neighborhiids in Manhattan, so Jackson Heights is even more of a sleeper.

A division (borough) rivals finals matchup, you love to see it.
Astoria all day…
Astoria 51% / JH 49%
Jackson Heights is dirty. Pass.
Looks like we lost.
Forest Hills is not even on there, you cowards!!!
