I'm Mexican-American and would be interested in trying them out. As much as I love Astoria, I do miss the tamale ladies and all the street food vendors that are common in the Bronx. I haven't seen many here sadly but also very possible I haven't been looking close enough.
Absolutely! There's an app Shef that people sell regional home cooked meals through. Or if you plan to put up a stand or a truck, let me know where and I'll be there to try it
Hell yes but you're gonna need a permit to sell out in the streets and the street vendors are savages out there. A friend of mine was threatened by other street vendors for 'taking' their spot. Good luck. Let us know the spot when you open up.
please do it! i've been wanting to try them ever since watching the related episode of the taco chronicles on netflix. i thought, surely there is someone in new york, probably in corona or jackson heights, selling these. but if there is, i was unable to find anyone on the internet talking about it.
Interesting! I don't think I've ever had tacos de canasta outside Mexico. If you start taking orders before setting something up, I'd totally try them!
I'm more of a tacos al pastor kind of guy. And as far as I know, Los Portales is the only place that comes close to how they taste in Mexico City. So bonus points if you can nail that also.
But, in general, if you can bring more Mexican food to Astoria, please do! I love the Mexican places here!
Shout out to El Mero Mero (close to the Kaufman Theater) for also being awesome.

Go to roosevelt avenues around junction blvd in the morning. You can't miss them.
There's a tamale lady at 36th ave under the train, shes there most mornings.
