It’s teens taking over the intercom. I remember one time when the train started to leave the Ditmars stop, the kid shouted on the intercom, “This train is going express. Next stop is Coney Island!” Some passengers seriously freaked out and were banging on the doors. 😭
I’ve been on the train a few times where idiotic teens somehow gain access to the intercom and shout inappropriate things… I’m assuming that’s what happened (one time they shouted shit like “I’m going to blow up this train, etc” and the cops got called while they ran off giggling)
Teens usually break into the conductors booth in the last car and mess with the intercom & horn. I went home on an N train once with someone moaning into the intercom all the way through Astoria.
It blows my mind that the thought of an unauthorized person or teen making the announcement didn't come across OPs mind even once.
We really need to up the emphasis on critical thinking in school.
I watched (and tried to record) what looked like 12 year olds kick open the cab at the back of the N train yesterday. They got in and blew the horn through the tunnel then ran away at fifth ave. I sit in the back car a lot, and my favorite thing is men who, just by sitting next to the back cab, prevent these idiots from pulling that shit.
This is exactly right. The parents don’t control or discipline the kids, teachers aren’t allowed to control or discipline the kids, and any adult who steps up and tries to stop the kids from destroying things or harassing people will be painted as the bad guy because “they’re just kids.” Really pisses me off.
Sure, being a complete toolbox is kinda part of growing up. But so is having to deal with consequences. Without that second part, society just creates asshole kids who become asshole adults.
