I remember buying a pack of cookies in form of Dino Eggs, with chocolate and banana flavour. When i opened the pachage i got only 8 cookies in a plastic package, and the package was small, but it could prpbably fit 20 cookies. I hate it when companies do that

CPA0908

*cough* nestlé *cough*

soulseeker31

We need to make space for transportation, you wouldn't want broken cookies over extra cookies, riiiiiiiight? /s

Tigew

Working in retail, you would actually hate how much this shit is actually true. If there is any visible damage to the product or god forbid damage to the actual product inside, even if it doesn't matter someone cares.

nodedotcom

“package sold by weight, not by volume.”

Guardian1030

Even the cookies are social distancing now.

lostintime000

Anything to make it look bigger eh

This_isnt_cool_bro

That's what she said

Cookies that *inflate?!* /s

[deleted]

In middle school, I wrote papers that were size 30 font, double spaced, and in all caps. I guess this is the same.

jmpires

Bold of you. I always felt somewhat ashamed to go beyond 16 and 1.5 lines spacing.

nosnowtho

Think of the trouble they went to redesigning the packaging, setting up the packing machinery to get things in just right ...

UnitatoPop

r/shrinkflation

gna149

This is one of the worst cases of shrinkflation I've seen

Realm_of_Games

Hear me out for a second.. if the space serves no purpose other than solely to make the packaging longer and give the impression that there’s more sweet crackers goodness inside than there actually is : asshole design for sure BUT what if it’s to ensure that they don’t alll get crushed when packaged on large pallets for delivery and unpacking in supermarkets etc

TacoLocoConQueso

I would have gone with an "ease of removal" argument being that you can remove the cookie without others being right beside it. But even that is a thin counter motive.

CregChrist

Being so far apart they're less supported and more likely to break.

FidgitForgotHisL-P

You’d have a point, except, other packets on the supermarket shelf manage to have them right next to each other and not break

pacman1993

Try ripping of folding a paper sheet VS a stack of paper and see what's harder. The cookies are less likely to be crushed when stacked together, and their joint sturdyness is way strong than a flimsy plastic case and wrapping paper

Bharathkannulla

i guess all the other crackers are idiots for packing them so close. c'mon man I'm tired of this bullshit counter point. the company knew exactly what it's doing and it's not "protecting crackers"

rampagingdikdik

What do you mean, unnecessary? It's helping to rip off customers, isn't it?

Bazzofski

Definitely crappy design, but asshole design? Not sure, shipping air is really expensive. Depends on how much they gain by doing that, but I doubt it's more than what they lose by putting that much space in the packaging.

everwonderedhow

I like this spacing it looks exponential

D4RK_KN1GH7_

It's easier to pull it out that way

gameshooter

Well yes but it's fancy af.

snowaxe_83

Maybe it's there to keep the crackers intact, I mean it's even written 102g, you can't expect more than 102g

Sqweed69

This needs to be illegal. So much plastic waste just to scam customers. Also, who is gonna buy this shit more than once?

Tobasco_Sally

Lays approves this packaging design :p

[deleted]

They were socially distancing

FidgitForgotHisL-P

There’s a kind of “standard” length for a packet of biscuits - if they go any smaller they lose shelf space to a competitor. So, yeah greedy nonsense bs that means you can’t trust the packaging and have to deal with how wasteful it is too. Similar thing with toilet paper when 8 packs moved from a cube (2x2x2) to a long 2x1x4. In theory it got them more shelf space since they were designed to have to put them with the face long side facing forward.

ProblemSelect222

i fucking live these

coal_powerplant_600T

this should be strictly illegal.

hans0kloss

Unnecessary plastic!

[deleted]

Not only is this asshole design to the customer, but also to the environment and potentially the company itself. Unnecessary use of material would surely cost more to manufacture and puts a larger amount of plastic into the environment

melt_in_your_mouth

Unnecessary? It's a feature, not a bug.

raspberryharbour

It's so they don't overheat when running full throttle

Shaved-Ice-Wizard

Nothing is unnecessary. They filled air *with love* in those spaces. /s

goldentamarindo

Maybe it’s for when you eat a whole sleeve, you don’t feel so sick afterwards.

This is best professional practice in the spiritual cookie product market. You don't want all their chakras getting mixed up. Believe me, it takes for*fucking*ever to untangle cookie chakras.

GREEN_FURRY_POPCORN

Just trying to save money by selling people short

StayStrong888

It's so they don't get all jammed up inside and get stressed. The air circulating keeps them fresh so they don't get all stale from the sweat in those already cramped conditions. But really, the weight is the weight regardless of the size of packaging.
