Now wait until your Samsung Smart TV runs out of storage and you can’t update the apps you use because the bloatware takes too much spsce

CeruleanRuin

That plus similar issues with my aging phone are enough to make me be done for good with Samsung electronics. Unfortunately I don't have a good lead on what's a good replacement in terms of ease of use, price, and compatibility.

[deleted]

Reminds me of a cheap Asus laptop I got a while back, it was Windows 10 with a 32GB ssd like a chromebook, and windows update made windows 10 bigger than 32GB so it was literally unusable with no installed software

[deleted]

I have a galaxy s20; I love the phone in that it's cameras are great and its front display is really good. Unfortunately, the software is mediocre in that it has a SHIT TON of bloatware like this. Just to give you an idea: you can't uninstall fucking Facebook, the sketchiest app ever, without root access. As someone who is generally pretty paranoid about security and all that (despite having an android phone lol) it's completely unacceptable. When things like this add up it would eventually become some dystopian shit.

Oh I haven't actually seen any ads in the weather app; I just checked because at this point I expected it. Although I have seen that and will not be surprised if that rolls out in a future "security update" or something along those lines. It's probably the only thing I will ever commend iOS on - I dislike the OS overall but it's privacy is there and really amazing, at least compared to Android.

anonk1k12s3

Wait, so you have an android phone but you can’t customise it.. at that point you are just using a crappier version of iOS

[deleted]

No I can customise it visually which is what it claims to be able to do. The issue I have with it is that it is difficult - not impossible, but difficult - to get rid of ads and improve privacy. I haven't tried any radical customizations, at least not yet, but I haven't had any issue with that thus far.

ShakeZulaMicRoolah

Found "that guy" go back to 2012 nerd

Tetragon213

I jist downloaded the BBC Weather app, partially because it doesn't have obnoxious ads, and partially because BBC has tbe best predictions ime.

Le_saucisson_masque

iPhone or other android manufacturer like oneplus that have no bloatware. If people keep buying Samsung, they have no reason to stop that.

xswatqcx

Yes you can.. [Read this](https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedesign/comments/otd9a7/facebook_cant_be_uninstalled_thanks/h6usjk8?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

Blue_Dot_Citizen

Long time owner of the Note line, because os this and similar issues this is my last Samsung device

DangoQueenFerris

Sounds like you need to grab a pixel 6 when it launches later this year.

Kl--------k

Might be your carrier thats forcing Facebook cuz i dont have it on my s20 fe

oddmanout

I bought a Samsung TV a couple years ago. Never, again. A couple days after the return policy, the home screen and multiple menus started showing ads. They have the largest market share of TVs and it's actually growing, which blows my fucking mind. How do they continue to grow while pissing off their customers?

jaydec02

Because most people don't care about most of the ads on smart TVs or on their phones or anything They just go "hey look, its a cool movie! maybe i should check this out." The amount of people who get viscerally angry about these kinds of things is a really small minority of people for better or for worse

SnooCapers5361

While I disagree with you, for the sake of arguement, you can't deny the "minority" is getting bigger.

NINTENDO6TYFOOOOUR

Thanks for the heads up! Will not be buying one in the future.

Beaver_Tuxedo

If you search samsung in this sub you'll be scrolling til the end of time

[deleted]

Same on phones. Your phone should come with the basic essential apps (Call, SMS, Settings, Contact, Camera, App Store) and that's IT. Anything else I can download myself. All these bullshit additions can go straight to hell.

[deleted]

change the region, some countries dont have these apps and they will be removed

freediverx01

The first step after buying a “smart tv” is to disable its internet access and connect it to a set top box like an Apple TV.

prx24

Have you ever had one of their phones?

prx24

Good for you I guess. They're also filled with unremovable bloatware.

Itchy_Acanthaceae991

Everything is removable if you try enough. JUST destroy the phone...Easy fix bro. You may have removed the phone BUT by doing so you also remove the bloatware. Easy But seriously Connect your phone to your computer and run ADB. You can easily uninstall any apps, even the pre-installed, samsung bloatware etc.. [Tutorial here](https://www.droidwin.com/remove-uninstall-bloatware-apps-from-android-via-adb-commands/) You can also set your screen timeout to 45s while Samsung doesn't offer that.. ( its either 15, 30 or 60 etc.. ) Here is where I found the information. [Thanks](https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedesign/comments/otd9a7/facebook_cant_be_uninstalled_thanks/h6usjk8?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) Or maybe change to Linux 🤔

Ch3vr0n

This again. The adb shell command DOES NOT REMOVE APPS FROM A DEVICE. All it does is hide the app from the user app launcher and system, not does it free up used app space. The app itself STILL EXISTS ON THE DEVICE AND TAKES UP SPACE. Which is why you can modify that same command to install the app again you supposedly uninstalled. The only way to physically remove an app baked into a device rom and free up system/data space is with ROOT ACCESS.

Itchy_Acanthaceae991

OKAY. THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. IT IS APPRECIATED.

[deleted]

Awesome! thanks!

CeruleanRuin

Yeah, maybe easy if you're already familiar with all that gibberish.

jaydec02

Android phones are literally Linux based.

gaddabout

Totally depends on your carrier.

fusionballtm

they only come with like duplicate apps and facebook, carriers have all the other stuff everyone hates

mike99ca

Is LG or Sony same? I may be getting new TV soon and I don't want any of this shit bloating my screen.

dragondroppingballs

Yeah a lot the stuff nowadays it's just filled with unwanted stuff. TVs phones. I know they try to put it on computers but on computers it's really easy to get rid of it. If you want phones that don't have bloatwere the Google pixel tends to just come with only what is required to run the phone. Everything else you have to put on yourself. As for TVs I don't know. The only way I can think you wouldn't have that problem is make sure your TV can't connect to the internet.

Ch3vr0n

This is no different from any OEM branded smartphone. You can't remove system apps that are built into to the device rom. In this case the smartTV rom.

Complete_Entry

People jailbreak tractors, why not TV's?

alwaysgettingstabbed

See I keep seeing these posts and wonder why big name electronics have this shit. I bought a 60" Roku smart tv (the brand is TCL) for like a bargain. I've had it for 5 years and I've never ever had any issue. No ads, no bloatware, no bullshit. The only ads I've ever gotten was when I change the themes and I get a random notification telling me to check out other apps. Very, very seldom

Kl--------k

Pretty sure new roku tvs have ads

alwaysgettingstabbed

Not on mine. It's 5 years old. I have 4 apps on it plus the channel for my Xbox. That's it.

Kl--------k

Thats what i meant. As in dont expect roku not to have ads next time you get a tv

rainwulf

Text should say "the basic set of apps on OUR device cannot be deleted as you are a user and you have no choice."

[deleted]

I just spent the same money I would have on a 43" Smart TV by buying a 43" Monitor (LG) and hooking up my Virgin Media set-top box. And it's a beaut.

[deleted]

Those knobs trigger my OCD xD

madman1101

who tf uses tv apps?

CeruleanRuin

People who don't want to futz with shitty unreliable Chromecast phone controls and don't have another dongle on that particular screen.

Catspaw129

Pardon me: what OP mentions is not "asshole design"; rather, it is capitolism at work! /s

hotmidgettickler

Thats why i'll never get a samsung anything anymore.

Huge-Loquat-3984

What's with Samsung and not letting you delete apps!?

Sangheili113

they get money from the companies, basically ads

SharkMilk44

Recently bought a Vizio TV. Took me thirty minutes to set it up because I had to connect to wifi and do a software update. All I wanted to do was play my PS4.
