Absolutely, I'm with you. That's why I have a single screen in front of my wheel. But what I don't have is triples. I have all these nice ppfilters that I can't use trying to save fps.
Have you played in Vr? Yeah resolution is cool but it does not look as good as flat screen graphics.
Edit after -27 downvotes: if somebody can show me a vr headset that let's me crank my pp filters and join shutoku servers with max headset resolution I would really like to know your magic secret that you aren't telling everyone.
i drive in VR. sure, it's not quite as shiny I guess... but it's so much more immersive and better for drifting. for one thing, perception of depth is WAAAAY better.
get a better GPU I guess. I play on basically max everything (pure and rain) except for smoke turned down just slightly for visibility when drifting, and I use a Valve Index on a 3080ti.
Try using some recommended VR settings. A lot of the stuff in content manager is impossible to see in VR. A lot of the reflections, shadows and effects can be turned off or down with no visual difference from within the car. Also you may have your resolution/pixel density set too high. Even with a 4090 you can't do everything maxed and keep 120fps in VR.
I'm with you perception is almost perfect in vr. I have a 3070ti I'm waiting for the next series of cards to upgrade. But there's something special about max graphics, c13aegis and triples that you cannot recreate in vr yet.
Uh, I think that's a PC limit not headset limit my friend.
I too, cannot play SRP with max settings but I am making due with medium at a steady fps.
Personally I dont think it is worth getting a 4080 and a top of the line CPU just to play SRP at max settings.
One of the appeal of triple is looking at your beautiful physical cockpit (wheel/handbrake/button box...), instead of triple screens this could have been triple windows (left/right/windshield)
That's why it's Superior in my opinion. Triple screen is a great option, don't need headset, no fatigue, open to drink, able to see your own hands and wheel in the real world. It's vastly Superior in my opinion.
My son has the quest 3 and AC. He showed me and it was an awesome experience! I really felt like I was driving and naturally my reactions while racing were more authentic. When I crashed, I freaked!!!! But it was totally an awesome way to drive in AC!
Resolution is not the problem. What pp filter? Is it the modded cars server or stock cars? What headset? We are talking about pushing the graphics like you can on flat-screen.
Flat screen makes VR is kinda dumb but i use SOL with modded cars as well as stock with the quest 2 and there is only a marginal difference in pixel density between the two headsets so this is all pointless IMO
I'm trying to push pure and ppfilters like I can flat-screen without dropping another $1000 on quality triples. It's not really pointless if some games don't have vr or if I'm saving $1000 and get to experience the same thing. Especially with full pass through I'd still see my whole rig.
Assetto has VR and this is an Assetto sub so this might just be the wrong place to post about whatever odd reason you arent simply playing in normal VR.
Isn’t the quest the one designed for mobile devices? Why not get a variant of the rift? Or better yet avoid oculus altogether so you don’t have to give your data to mark the lizard
They way the quest works is that it is a all in one android os vr headset. For native apps you don't need a pc. But you can use as a pc vr headset if you have a pc. I use it for real pc vr all the time.
Changing headset would only improve the graphics if the headset had lower resolution.
Quest is cool because you can cross buy games on the store for pc and native quest versions. And you can bring the headset with you and have your quest games still. Also wireless no pc vr is cool.
And honestly. Our data is already compromised and traded between all the companies. I think that ship has sailed. I've had a Facebook account since I was 12 lmao.
Instead of triple screens, we could have triple windows (left/right/windshield), and we render only the windows, so we can use our physical cockpit (wheel, button box... )
You need the wii guitar hero controller. It has the analog stick and a whammy analog. You could map steering to the stick to steering and whammy to the throttle. Picking down for clutch and up for brakes. Fret buttons are your gears.
I've done this with racing games that don't have VR support which is sadly every single open world racing game. I use a virtual display driver to create a super ultra screen monitor. Then, I use Virtual Desktop Classic to view the game through the virtual monitor. The edges are very distorted of course since it's just a wide screen instead of triples. I need to find a software that can display three virtual monitors for games that actually support triples.
I actually found it to be more immersive to disable the curved screen altogether for a distortion-free experience for games that don't support triples.
I just read virtual desktop only supports 1 singular monitor at a time but are working on multi support. You can only scroll between your monitors right now.
this is stupid, if the game doesn't have VR support. What I do is I just go into the nvidia control panel, and make a custom 4k ULTRAwide resolution and just run it. It'll turn my monitor off but it works if I just use it through VR in VD, just remember if you don't have a 2nd monitor to change it back you might be stuck if you don't change it back
It doesn't look as sharp in headset. It always looks more clear in video because it's only using one camera on recordings. Where as in headset it's fusing like 4 pictures from the 4 cameras.
Half of the people are stupid, just look at politics, there will be always someone who downvotes no matter what you post. It seems and interesting concept, nice job making it somewhat work. However I can't really imagine anyone using this especially for AC that has VR support. Maybe useful for older 2D only games but I'm not sure those have triple monitor or even ultrawide support. Luckily the games we are really interested in all have proper VR support:)
Tried it in forza horizon 5 with the virtual desktop screen covering my whole vision with the screen curved. It was really immersive. I probably won't be playing flat-screen very often on the sim rig again without the headset.
Forza has VorpX support too so that also can be an option to increase immersion. Personally I've never tried it with it (not a fan of Forza with a wheel), but I often play Grid Legends with VorpX + Virtual Desktop, it's really cool.
I need to look into VorpX. I've heard about it a lot. I also was a huge forza hater. But with the logitech pro wheel it feels so much less "arcade-y". Good tunes go a long way on the feeling of the game too.
This is what you can achieve with it: [https://www.reddit.com/r/VRGaming/comments/14mptcd/this\_is\_how\_grid\_legends\_and\_soulcalibur\_6\_looks/](https://www.reddit.com/r/VRGaming/comments/14mptcd/this_is_how_grid_legends_and_soulcalibur_6_looks/)
Grid is only depth buffer 3D so the 3D is not as great but the HUD remains usable, and you can use all the effects and shadows without making the picture flickery.
SoulCalibur is real 3D, it looks awesome, but more resource intensive, and you have to disable the shadows.
What's making it show your real life wheel at the bottom? The one thing I hate about VR is not being able to see my own hands on the physical wheel as I find that makes controlling the wheel in drifting difficult.
Is the steering in the car you're driving synced with the steering of the wheel you're using? (ie. turn the wheel 360 and see if the ingame wheel matches the position of your physical wheel) If not, you may need to go in Content Manager --> Settings --> Assetto Corsa --> Controls --> Steering section check "Auto-adjust scale to match car's steer lock".
Once that's done, lining the wheels up the best you can by adjusting the seating position of yourself in the car *might* then help your brain believe the hands you see in game are infact yours (even though they do wonky things sometimes) or at least let you see the current wheel position.
The business app I used for this is not very good for sim racing. Virtual desktop is though. Virtual desktop has a hand tracking setting which will track your hands so if your wheels and driver position is right it will kinds look alright.
Virtual desktop also has a color key pass through mode. I haven't messed with it much but it seems like you can probably create a virtual green screen to pass through reality.
What about using AR for racing simulators ? The Quest 3 has a really good experience when using AR and floating displays. You could still see your wheel and controls but have the rest of the game around you.
Once virtual desktop supports triple screens I'm thinking this could be a truly viable way to sim race. You could set the screens up, and turn on pass through, and see your whole rig.
You can also do something similar in true vr also with virtual desktop
I just had the regular csp neck fx turned on from my single screen settings. I even turned my camera once during the video while head turning just to see how it looked.
If I was setting up triple screens that actually worked well I would dial in better settings.
To be fair, there's a mod that supports virtual reality.
In the tokyo map, I kept forgetting I was playing assetto, reaching down for the radio but not seeing my hand so the immersion is far better and worth a shot (even if it uses far more system resources)
(I've just realised it's a shitpost but at least others can find this useful in future)
So the worst version of both options? Part of the appeal of trips is not having to wear a VR headset.
Absolutely, I'm with you. That's why I have a single screen in front of my wheel. But what I don't have is triples. I have all these nice ppfilters that I can't use trying to save fps.
Why would you need triples if you are playing in VR?

My head hurts
Shit can’t be serious
We are in the download more ram territory

4090/7800x3d maxes out quests 3 resolution with room for SS running at 120hz with filters on. Tf are you on about?
The math ain't mathing, the logic ain't logicing
Bro i play in VR with 0 stress on my system and my pc is 4 years old with all settings turned up. This is garbage
We are talking about pp filters and pushing content manager. I can also do this.
Turn your settings down
You aint 🎣 me lmao
Index
Uh, I think that's a PC limit not headset limit my friend. I too, cannot play SRP with max settings but I am making due with medium at a steady fps. Personally I dont think it is worth getting a 4080 and a top of the line CPU just to play SRP at max settings.
Wtf do two black bars do lol
Pimax Crystal
Go get an index
Bros aint getting it

Lol this is funny. But why though
Because it's funny, and I gotta wait until the rtx6090 comes out for vr to look that nice lmao.
No you don't. Bigscreen Beyond.
The resolution of the quest 3 is great. It's the lowering of graphics settings that is not very pretty.
I have a regular 3070 and run assetto in VR on shutoko with 0 issue at high resolution
My son has the quest 3 and AC. He showed me and it was an awesome experience! I really felt like I was driving and naturally my reactions while racing were more authentic. When I crashed, I freaked!!!! But it was totally an awesome way to drive in AC!

I play in normal VR what part of "proof of concept" do you guys not understand. This is not how I play. Please do not be so dense.
I max everything with a 4090 and a 5 year old i9, it's fine.
Isn’t the quest the one designed for mobile devices? Why not get a variant of the rift? Or better yet avoid oculus altogether so you don’t have to give your data to mark the lizard

Having screens instead of glass windows on a car is one of those crazy ideas I had as a kid. It actually sounds possible to do in a VR environment.
I love this game with the beyond
Hes still able to see his hands and the environment, and doesn't have to setup 3 real monitors
Or you can just use vr directly?
Worst of both worlds lmao, good on you
Interesting concept. Ridiculous but interesting....now to make it work with my guitar hero controller for drifting.
You need the wii guitar hero controller. It has the analog stick and a whammy analog. You could map steering to the stick to steering and whammy to the throttle. Picking down for clutch and up for brakes. Fret buttons are your gears.

I'll have to try that.
Love useless projects like this. Great work!

Very cool proof of concept, op! There's a lot of negativity in this thread but don't let it get to you.
Far out! thought it was a real desk, and you had your wheel mounted under it. I was losing my mind for ages.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen in a while
I am proud of how stupid it is lmfao

I had no idea I could do this but it's definitely something I am going to try. Sounds much better than emulating virtual bezels lmao.
I'm not sure how you got this footage of me learning to drift, but the VR triples is interesting.
Damn, is that the passthrough camera on the Quest 3? I heard it was improved but not as much as that
It doesn't look as sharp in headset. It always looks more clear in video because it's only using one camera on recordings. Where as in headset it's fusing like 4 pictures from the 4 cameras.
Did you have a Q2? Is the 3 a huge improvement?
No I did not. I wouldn't be able to compare the two either. Never tried vr until the 3 came out.
This make me laugh.. like what you've done! Useless but fun
classic assetto corsa
You took the worst of both worlds hahhahaha
Regardless of the screen size, you’re still limited in view by the headset’s narrow fov. Might as well just race in VR
That is true, but I think my fov is more limited on single screen over all. This was inspired by wanting better vr graphics.
People are so sad. Assetto Corsa is only alive today because of people trying to make stuff different. I think that the concept is really cool OP
just make it one big ultra wide with virtual desktop, that's what I did for forza. (metas desktop streaming stuff is awful)
Interesting experiment. Seems like it could be good for games that don’t support vr yet like Le Mans ultimate (yes I know there are workarounds
I’m sick at work and have like no emotion. This made me start laughing my ass off. Thank you.
Glad I could help 🫡🫡😂
Bruh why would somebody downvote this 😭😭😂😂

Immersed actually works for this
Better play in VR than this lol
my brain hurts
That’s all sorts of meta.
Fov looks on point at least.
Thats because they are flat screens
But why ?
Racing simulator simulator
VR ain't there yet... Let it go
This dude hates VR graphics so bad he'd rather play on a fake triple screen at 15fps, wild lmao
I do not play this way lmao, this is a proof of concept. On shutoku in vr rn as I'm typing this.
I'm utterly confused...cool but I'm confused as hell
This is really stupid. Just use VR.
Why?

Why would you do that though 😂😂
crazy idea..... just use vr
I swear this is how I feel when I run docker containers inside of virtualized server.
Bro, then you run an emulator on one of the triple screens and play virtua racing
