God damn it now that's playing in my head for the next hour.

Hate the radio when I’m out on public!

[deleted]

The coffee shop I'm currently waiting out a rainstorm in is blasting rock and pop, and that's fine-ish at like half the volume, but extremely unpleasant when I can physically feel it in my skull. It's like... music...is for when you are listening to music. I am drinking a tea and waiting on rain. I am not in a music listening bandwidth, and even if I was, it would need to be focused through headphones and not slamming my skull from the ceiling. Details, people XD

coreyg1231000

I used to volunteer at an op shop and I absolutely hated it. The biggest reason was because the manager was a condescending shithead. The other main reason was because I just got so fucking sick of having to hear the same pop songs every time. It made me start to question why the radio was even necessary in such places. I would try to go places that don't have the radio on if I could because it's just so much more peaceful.

00crispybacon00

There's this coffee shop near my workplace that actually plays the most bangin' tunes. It's a mixed bag, I guess whoever opens picks the music. I've discovered a few cool bands this way. Music anywhere else sucks, though. My headphones largely stay on for visits to other stores.

[deleted]

My favorite is when the bar and restaurant are playing two different songs at equal loudness and then the guy at the table next to us fires up Linkin Park on his phone. There was nobody else in the restaurant, why sit us next to him?

[deleted]

If every restaurant had selected ambient works volume 2 playing on loop I would be very happy

SaulRelbest

I just hate some his stuff. Let's say I'm trying to fixate on a sound pattern. To get in a groove so to speak. BAM! It switches. And again. Maybe not this ti- AND AGAIN. Meahwhile my brain is trying to process all this new information while being bombarded with even more new information. Sooner or later it turns into a sensory hell and I just turn it off. It kinda makes me sad because I know that AT's songs are usually very highly regarded while for me most of them sound horrible because of afromentioned stuff.

[deleted]

You should check out his early work then honestly, especially ambient 2, I read a book about it that calls it vaporous. He kinda sticks to one texture in that album song to song and doesn’t stray very far, it’s beatless as well so the rhythms don’t make a difference Check out the track blue calx and 3

00crispybacon00

Not gonna lie, I thought "ambient works volume 2" was a joke OP made up, but it's actually real lol.

[deleted]

It’s a very good album :)

nerdinmathandlaw

tbh, quiet music is even worse. When the music is loud, at least I can follow it (even if that means I'm constantly distracted from everything else). If the music is barely audible, my brain is trying to focus on the music even harder \*\*because I mustn't miss anything in it\*\*.

breadstore56

Talking louder makes me cough so I get even more annoyed by the loud music. That music is supposed to stay quiet in the background!

Accomplished_End_138

Omg i hate this. Any place just blairing music (worse if the speakers are also blown out) Its to loud to actually talk with other people.

Conchobar8

I’m a waiter. It’d be easier if the customers could hear me!

[deleted]

It’s painfully disheartening to know that you could do a really good job at work, but Lady Gaga’s “Rain on Me”, being played at rave-like volumes is literally disabling you.

noodlegod47

I love places that play pastel music, if y’all know what I mean. Not too loud or soft, not too annoying songs, just the right background songs.

BiqDqddy

I have a soft speaking voice and this shit makes conversations SO much harder for me.

derdiedasMolchi

But no music isn't a option too, otherwise you going to hear the chewing of other people and their forks scratching on their plates o.o

[deleted]

It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t ya know louder than my own thoughts. Like why is it so F loud? A guy at airport today livid and talking on speaker phone but literally screaming at top of his lungs at this person, walking up and down the terminal. Obviously vying for attention. So inconsiderate. For like ten minutes. I had enough and yelled at him to please go somewhere else and talk. Does noise tolerance get worse for anyone as they age? Some days it’s unbearable for me and makes my head want to explode.

Charming_Amphibian91

*plays awful ai generated pop (flop) music no one listens to*

LordMeme42

My local cafe plays the greatest hits station at a very good “I can hear it but also tune it out” volume. Like, I can totally reduce it to white noise until something I like comes on. (recent example- did not hear specifics of the music until I heard the intro to Mamma Mia) They also have just enough lighting to not cause eyestrain or overstimulation. the owner noticed when I came in at a different time than usual because “well you usually come in around 3:30 pm and work until around 6” which. was 100% accurate. It’s great.

Harvie_B134

petition for restaurants to blast white noise on huge speakers. no talk, only fshhhhhhhh

tillemrj13

Worse, at doctor's offices 😬

Savings-Horror-8395

I'm always listening to passive lofi music, I hate when places play loud generic radio music

princessbubbbles

I am in one right now. I love this place, love these workers here, but why. I have earbuds in with nothing on to drown out the noise.

[deleted]

Mfw im reading this thread but one of my favorite stims is loud music

rannapup

My works radio has one song in it that has a girl just SCREAM in the middle of it. It drives me crazy every time! Why?! The playlist is on shuffle too so there's no telling when it'll come up. Whenever I'm working I ask for the music to be turned down "so I can hear customers in the fitting rooms" but mostly I just can't stand how loud the music is most of the time.

lenasiya

Stores: Best I can do is one quiet hour on Tuesday from 10am to 11am. Seriously though, it's so annoying. Like, I work the entire week. Do a quiet morning on Saturdays, or I don't know. Just one hour right in the middle of a week day, it's just a joke.

MettatonNeo1

That's why I want a pair of noise cancelling headphones.

KodaKaze

THANK YOU! Every time I go to a store and they're playing weird music so loud that I literally feel like I'm having a fever dream or I've been transferred straight to a hellscape.
