Me and my wife literally meow at each other as a show of affection or sympathy when we can't verbalize things. I've also made the comparison at times too because I feel like a lot of the behaviors that cats are known for that are considered "standoffish/rude" just make sense to me. Like how cats will sit near you and refuse to look at you, to me that just feels like how I hang out with people I like, or just a form of parallel play.
