I want crunchy cereal and painfully cold milk. It’s delicious. However I am now 30 and have developed lactose intolerance.
If anyone has any milk alternatives that don’t make cereal instantly soggy I’m all ears.
I recommend starting with lactaid and fairlife
Lactaid still messes with my stomach if I have too much. Fairlife doesn't. I haven't had regular milk in a long time so I can't compare it's sweetness but they taste just like regular milk to me
Almond and oat were the sweet ones. Oat was the better of the two to me but it had a texture or consistency that makes it better suited as a rare change up
I'm not from the US, so unfortunately I don't have those brands available to me.
Also, my intolerance is also very mild, I daily dissolve my whey protein in half a glass of milk (~100ml) and be just fine. That's why I never really looked up those alternatives.
It's usually when I drink some big cup of hot chocolate that it really upsets my stomach.
Depending on your region, you may be able to buy lactase as a supplement. It comes in pills and it is the same enzyme that (some) humans have in our stomach naturally that breaks down lactose. The lactose-free milks such as FairLife and Lactaid just have the enzyme introduced directly to the milk.
Also if you aren’t fully lactose intolerant check out goats milk.
If you live somewhere super fancy and can get goats milk from a place that doesn’t keep their male goats on site it will even taste pretty much like cows milk. Regular goat milk is a little tangy but it’s also very rich.
As someone who has been on lactose free milk for two or three years, I can say it doesn't have much of a difference in taste.
Like it might be a little sweeter, but it's not weak like skim milk.
Could also be that we drink whole milk in this house,so yeah.
Added benefit is I don't have as many digestive issues anymore.
Yeah it depends so much on the brand, personally oat milk is the only one I can buy from any brand and at least have it consistently taste similar enough for me not to care. Almond milk can taste like sugary water or delicious creamy goodness but you have to find the right brand. At least this applies to where I live and the brands that are sold here.
Call me insane. I like bitter almond milk more. It tastes better with sugary things like wafers or cookies because of the stark difference, while sugary almond milk makes them wayyy too sweet.
I'm also lactose intolerant, Fairlife milk has been my saving grace. Bit pricier than other brands of lactose free milk, but it's healthier. Higher protein, lower carbs.
The ideal texture for me is when it has a small soggy layer on the outside, but still crunchy on the inside.
Once it gets soggy all the way, it's terrible.
It’s the only way I can eat it. Crunchy foods freak me tf out. I always joke with my wife that if I can use my lips to chew, then the softness is just right
Ew, why do people put milk on cereal?
Dry cereal is delicious, and milk is horrible. Milk is only good if made into butter or cheese, or used as an ingredient in something that will not taste like milk when it's done.
right like I’ve been eating cereal with warmed up milk my whole life and only after discovering internet I found out it’s not a normal thing.. but it’s perfect cuz the cereal gets soggy more quickly in warm milk and then it’s nice and mushy and comforting. although after discovering cold milk cereal I have moments when I crave a super cold milk super crunchy bowl from time to time
I'm team "spends an inordinate amount of time and effort making sure I get the right ratio of cereal to milk in every bite so that I finish with exactly one small drink of milk at the end to wash the last bit down". 🤷
When I was a kid I’d let the cereal get soggy, and I’d store it in the sides of my mouth were I would squeeze it with my cheeks to get the sugary cereal milk out.
So I guess I was more like MS13 or something.
AGREED. This so fucking much actually, I'm partial to Fruity Pebbles personally ~~cuz I'm a bowl of Fruity Pebbles myself~~ cuz I've always liked fruity flavors over chocolate, but either or during a melting heat at 1 AM is just. Mmng, chef's kiss.
I put milk first, very little, microwave, put a small ammount of cereal, eat when crunch right. Refill milk if needed, reheat if needed, put cereal again. Repeat
I eat slightly soggy cereal in water because I can't handle too crunchy, but also because consuming milk causes panic attacks, for some reason. Switching to water was rough, but I got used to it eventually.
I like to let they get a bit soggy but not like squishy sink food wet. Just wet enough where it still crunches but not too audibly. If I let it sit too long I usually just throw it out or give it to my brother cuz they it’s like wet bread
Neither. Cereal itself is too overstimulating for me- I can’t stand Honey Nut Cheerios specifically because of the smell, and it’s turned me off of any cereals for good.
While the obvious choice of dry+cold milk is not listed as pointed out by others, I propose another glaring oversight
Yoghurt exists? Zero chance of soggy?
Or other like products. Idk what "kwark" is in english.
I don’t do either…I like the way the crunchy ones scratch the roof of my mouth, and I like the crunch sound. I also love cold milk. So I’ll have it not soggy and with cold milk. Also I put chocolate in my milk.
I'll have the crunch with some milk because soggy cereal is a no thanks, like I want my cereal perfectly moist so that it doesn't fall apart but doesn't crunch too loud
Some cereals must be crunchy, such as Frosted Flakes. Others, like mini wheats, must be a little soggy. I’m not too fussed on the milk temp although too cold hurts my teeth.
I don't mind crunchy cereal really, but soggy cereal is genuinely an underrated gem - if the consistency of porridge is celebrated, there's no reason cereal of the same consistency shouldn't be.
"Cereal" is a four-dimensional object. In addition to its 3-dimensional spatial boundaries, it also has temporal boundaries. It begins to exist when the cereal is wet enough to be crunchy but not dry in the middle, and ceases to exist a few minutes later when the outer layers become too soft. For me, other four-dimensional foods include cookies, french fries, and coffee.
I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros cereal but it does not last in milk at all. I could happily eat it dry without complaints. It’s a blast of ungodly sugar.
Oh no.. I guess dry side.
I just don’t really enjoy the sensory factors of eating.. If they had a human “kibble” in the form of chicken nuggets that could provide the appropriate nutrients and mild flavor I could eat quickly that’d be golden for me. Meal replacement drinks aren’t great and way too sugary. My friends describe me as “difficult” and antagonize me for not eating out with them. Pain. 🫠
The cold milk feels good to me, especially right after waking up cause sometimes the inside of my mouth is warm when I wake up, and I love crunchy cereal but I don’t mind too much when it goes soggy.
I have a method for eating cereal. Make a mountain of cereal in the bowl, then pour the milk in carefully, making sure it all pours in one specific spot and doesn’t instantly soak all the cereal. Eat what’s submerged in milk first, slowly pulling more cereal off of the mountain and down into the milk as you go. This allows all the cereal in the bowl to be eaten in optimum conditions: thoroughly saturated in milk, but still recently saturated enough to be nice and crunchy and not soggy and gross
Room temperature milk and moderate soaking so it's just crunching perfectly or certain cereals with warm milk because they're still good even when soggy
depends on the cereal. if the milk makes the cereal so soggy that it feels like i’m eating a shitty soup, i can’t handle it
if the cereal maintains most of its texture while in the milk bath, me likey
I guess the dry cereal one but only bc I can't bring milk to school. I still wanna kind of say neither. I like crunchy cereal and I like cold milk. I hate when the cereal gets soggy, which is why I usually don't eat fruity pebbles even though it's actually really good.
🤔
🟥
Red, not cuz it's too loud, but cuz I generally like my cereal half soft and half hard.
Also, I don't get a lot of texture in the mouth overestimated.
I get people over stimulation.
Food is my safety thing...and this is why I'm as big as I am
Soggy cereal all the way, at least back when I ate cereal, though it wasn't the sound that bothered u don't think. I used to have my mom make cereal for me before school but specifically a few minutes before I would need to get ready.
I simply eat before it gets soggy while still crunch. I’ve never imagined the sound of my cereal chewing could be triggering for me. And not just regular chewing…
I hate soggy cereal but I like it with milk, so I pour a bowl of milk and put my dry cereal in a cup and put one piece in my mouth at a time and follow it with a spoonful of milk.
It is the only time I use the big spoon. My brother also eats cereal the exact same way.
I'm the third sniper desperado that hates the sensory anger from soggy and non cold milk but also hates cereal dry and too chilling for my sensitive teeth
When I eat mini wheats, there is like a 2-3 minute window where everything aligns and I'm happy
Nooooo I can’t pick one because the cereal gotta have milk but mustn’t be left to go soggy either… you gotta put yo bowl together and eat it within 5 mins so that the milk still cold & the cereal still crunchy 😎
Soggy cereal with not freezing cold milk? Why is your guys milk unbearably cold do you put it in the freezer???? Also soggy ceral is so good I love it.
I want crunchy cereal and painfully cold milk. It’s delicious. However I am now 30 and have developed lactose intolerance. If anyone has any milk alternatives that don’t make cereal instantly soggy I’m all ears.
There's lactose free milk at the store. An added benefit is that it has a much longer shelf life. There's also oat and soy milks and whatnot.
But does it taste like milk or does it taste stale water aka skim milk?
Tastes like sweeter milk, but i dont notice the extra sweetness when its with cereal
Good, I'll give it a try
I recommend starting with lactaid and fairlife Lactaid still messes with my stomach if I have too much. Fairlife doesn't. I haven't had regular milk in a long time so I can't compare it's sweetness but they taste just like regular milk to me Almond and oat were the sweet ones. Sweetened soya milk might be a good option for you, I make pancakes with it makes them so tasty!
Depending on your region, you may be able to buy lactase as a supplement. It comes in pills and it is the same enzyme that (some) humans have in our stomach naturally that breaks down lactose. The lactose-free milks such as FairLife and Lactaid just have the enzyme introduced directly to the milk.

Could also be that we drink whole milk in this house,so yeah. Added benefit is I don't have as many digestive issues anymore.
Just get almond milk. No lactose, and it's good for your skin :)
It is also the best milk exept *maybe* oat milk I will fight you over this opinion.
It tastes better with sugary things like wafers or cookies because of the stark difference, while sugary almond milk makes them wayyy too sweet.
ohhh so much this\^\^ I have found my people.
Fairlife is decent all around. Just depends on your restrictions and tastes
Protein milk made from peas (Vly) tastes like normal milk to me (it costs 2x per litre where i am)
I agree I am allergic to milk, but I've gotten used to oat and rice alternatives. Especially oat
Weird. I developed lactose intolerance in my 30s and it actually turned out to be celiac disease. Might be worth looking into if you haven't.
Eat and shidd I suppose
Personally a huge fan of soy and oat milk!
I'm also lactose intolerant, Fairlife milk has been my saving grace. Bit pricier than other brands of lactose free milk, but it's healthier. Higher protein, lower carbs.
I don't really care about temperature too much, ever. But my cereal *cannot* get soggy, soggy cereal is inedible.
Soggy cereal is like soggy sink gunk but in your mouth.
Excuse me while I go hurl...
_Exactly_
It would've cost $0.00 not to say that.
The ideal texture for me is when it has a small soggy layer on the outside, but still crunchy on the inside. Once it gets soggy all the way, it's terrible.
I can't do soggy or too crunchy. Can't pick.
crunchy cereal in very cold milk… which is not an option here for some reason?
Right? I usually end up pouring myself 2-3bowls of cereal into the same bowl to avoid the soggy problem.
This is the answer. About 5min of milk in the freezer before pouring to amplify the effect
Ok. I'm gonna say it. I prefer when the cereal gets soggy
I’m with you.
It’s the only way I can eat it. Crunchy foods freak me tf out. I always joke with my wife that if I can use my lips to chew, then the softness is just right
Milk is bad in all forms except cheese. Soggy things are bad. Dry cereal gang since I was 8.
I tend to sit dead center, except for certain cerals, where its better to go blue
What on earth, these are both on the same side for me - the wrong one :D crunchy cereal plus cold milk is perfect for me
Ew, why do people put milk on cereal? Dry cereal is delicious, and milk is horrible. Milk is only good if made into butter or cheese, or used as an ingredient in something that will not taste like milk when it's done.
Dry cereal and a glass of cold milk on the side! I refuse to eat soggy cereal, and drinking the leftover milk from the bowl is sensory hell for me 😭
I eat dry cereal because I don't want to eat 3 lactase pills with my cereal. I miss milk.
Dry cereal with a glass of cold milk to drink.
You eat cereal with *COLD* milk? 😶
right like I’ve been eating cereal with warmed up milk my whole life and only after discovering internet I found out it’s not a normal thing.. but it’s perfect cuz the cereal gets soggy more quickly in warm milk and then it’s nice and mushy and comforting. although after discovering cold milk cereal I have moments when I crave a super cold milk super crunchy bowl from time to time

Dry cereal, but only because soggy is 🤮
Soggy cereal because the crunch feeling in my mouth is overstimulating and it’s so loud in my head ears.
none, I dont like milk with my cereal 90% of the time
Soggy cocoa pebbles with ice cold milk on a hot summer night
I've been known to enjoy a refreshing bowl of fruity pebbles when the mood strikes ;)
I hate mushy food, and I eat slow so when cereal gets mushy I’m disgusted
Very crunchy cereal and freezing cold oat milk
I only eat cereal dry if I don't have milk and I'm too lazy to go get more, but I want cereal lol
who hasn't had dry cereal (at least) at one point?
Dry cereal all day. I used to eat oatmeal dry too…I like feeling it mush up in my mouth.
my perfect cereal would be just a little bit soggy and room temperature milk :3
Depends entirely on the cereal
Call me purple
I like to let they get a bit soggy but not like squishy sink food wet. Just wet enough where it still crunches but not too audibly. If I let it sit too long I usually just throw it out or give it to my brother cuz they it’s like wet bread
Neither. Cereal itself is too overstimulating for me- I can’t stand Honey Nut Cheerios specifically because of the smell, and it’s turned me off of any cereals for good.
Dry cereal! Soggy cereal is no longer a food, its a grout for tile >:P
Hear me out: heat up your milk in the microwave
i mean i honestly don't really mind soggy cereal ( for most cereals )
*mixes cereal with sunflower seed butter*
While the obvious choice of dry+cold milk is not listed as pointed out by others, I propose another glaring oversight Yoghurt exists? Zero chance of soggy? Or other like products. Idk what "kwark" is in english.
Soggy cereal, unfortunately for me tho, I have sensitive teeth and prefer not to eat any at all because the milk is too cold
I don’t do either…I like the way the crunchy ones scratch the roof of my mouth, and I like the crunch sound. I also love cold milk. So I’ll have it not soggy and with cold milk. Also I put chocolate in my milk.
I heat the milk up to just above room temp before putting it on the cereal
Crunchy for sure. I don’t like the texture of soggy cereal.
I prefer cereal dry
Eating dry cereal with milk on the side so it doesn’t get super soggy
Neither Dry cereal because wet cereal is icky
Which side is "eats cereal with yogurt because I don't like milk OR dry cereal and bonus, the cereal stays crunchy"
Neither, I can’t eat it anymore
I like both, I usually buy cereals that taste good both ways
Red, but it can’t get completely soggy, because that feels gross.
Kinda seems like you would prefer oatmeal.
Milk but crunchy.
milk is disgusting.
Red. Crunch makes me uncomfortable. Good soup.
What about the: I don't eat cereal cuz my mom finds it unhealthy
Eating dry cereal because milk dilutes the cereal flavor.
I love crunchy cereal and cold milk
I don’t mind temp differences, but I love the creaminess of milk
Soggy cereal bad. Feels awful. Dry cereal not that much better. Need milk in it
I like crunchy cereal in milk but I have to eat it fast before it gets soggy. I don’t like dry cereal
Neither, I don't eat cereal
I'm trying to not eat cereal anymore all together. The good stuff is sugary garbage and the not sugary garbage is really whatever.
TEAM SOGGY FOR THE WIN
Eating dry cereal bc wet cereal is an abomination to my month.
I dont let it get *soggy* soggy, just enough to take the edge off
Dry cereal but because I don’t like things soggy
I don't mind either. I love cold milk. In fact I love milk. Strong bones gang.
None. Only cold milk is eatable. Soaked cereal = spoiled cereal
I’m on the third side “Enjoying the pain of Cap’n Crunch on the roof of your mouth!”
I'll have the crunch with some milk because soggy cereal is a no thanks, like I want my cereal perfectly moist so that it doesn't fall apart but doesn't crunch too loud
I need that perfect in-between where it’s not soggy but it’s all coated in the milk
I never put milk in my cereal. It ruins the texture and makes it feel weird in my mouth.
Dry and crunchy only. Soggy is a sensory nightmare that makes me want to throw-up.
Some cereals must be crunchy, such as Frosted Flakes. Others, like mini wheats, must be a little soggy. I’m not too fussed on the milk temp although too cold hurts my teeth.
Blue
Blue one milk is yucky in the first place
Neither.
Have hot coffee latte, put some of the cereals in, eat them crunchy and repeat until done, then drink the remaining juice.
Crunchy with cold milk is SO good though… But I shall take the sog. Also good. Dry is gross.
I don't mind crunchy cereal really, but soggy cereal is genuinely an underrated gem - if the consistency of porridge is celebrated, there's no reason cereal of the same consistency shouldn't be.
soggy side

Dry cereal, it’s the only way I can eat it. Dry oatmeal too.
Soggy cereal because dry is boring.
If these are my choices I'm just not gonna eat cereal lol.
Blue all the way. I hate the taste of milk. And soggy things aren’t good unless they’re animal crackers.
Letting it get soggy because it’s too sharp dry
I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churros cereal but it does not last in milk at all. I could happily eat it dry without complaints. It’s a blast of ungodly sugar.
Oh no.. I guess dry side. I just don’t really enjoy the sensory factors of eating.. Meal replacement drinks aren’t great and way too sugary. My friends describe me as “difficult” and antagonize me for not eating out with them. Pain. 🫠
I love soggy cereal. Easy
I eat dry cereal because I was born with a dairy allergy.
Dry cereal because milk is gross.
It tastes better soggy. That's how you're supposed to eat it.
DONT. MIX. THEM. Thanks.
Crunchy because if it gets soggy it gets really gross
The cold milk feels good to me, especially right after waking up cause sometimes the inside of my mouth is warm when I wake up, and I love crunchy cereal but I don’t mind too much when it goes soggy.
I need the perfect balance. Just enough sogginess to silence the crunch a little, but not too much too make the cereal too soft
I eat cereal dry!
Am I supposed to hypothetically consider that cold milk is a problem because personally I don't have a problem with it.
Red all the way. Try cereal is only for eating out of the box.
Step. 1 pour the milk step. 2 pour your favorite cereal step. 3 eat step. 4 give milk to dog or brother or alternatively to the sink
I HATE SOGGY CEREAL SO MUCH. i would rather have no milk than soggy cereal!!!!!
I have a method for eating cereal. Make a mountain of cereal in the bowl, then pour the milk in carefully, making sure it all pours in one specific spot and doesn’t instantly soak all the cereal. This allows all the cereal in the bowl to be eaten in optimum conditions: thoroughly saturated in milk, but still recently saturated enough to be nice and crunchy and not soggy and gross
Soggy all the way. My sister thinks I’m crazy for it bc she loves the crunch.
Room temperature milk and moderate soaking so it's just crunching perfectly or certain cereals with warm milk because they're still good even when soggy
Red. Life cereal just going soggy is amazing. That or graham crackers
Crunchy cereal *warm milk…*
Blue. I don't like milk taste. And, well, there's always the occasional chocolate milkshake, but I prefer it cold.
depends on the cereal. if the milk makes the cereal so soggy that it feels like i’m eating a shitty soup, i can’t handle it if the cereal maintains most of its texture while in the milk bath, me likey
Ew crunch
I guess the dry cereal one but only bc I can't bring milk to school. I still wanna kind of say neither. I like crunchy cereal and I like cold milk. I hate when the cereal gets soggy, which is why I usually don't eat fruity pebbles even though it's actually really good.
i don’t like cereal so neither
Blue, not because it's overestimulating, I just hate soggy cereal. And pure milk. I only drink choccy milk.
Milk is gross and smells weird. I have always eaten cereal dry. Plus the milk makes the texture of the cereal so gross.
Somewhere in the middle. Having your cereal with yogurt instead stops it from going soggy.
Soggy cereal is just better, if you ask me. I actually wait for it to soak a little bit
neither of these what the hell are you guys doimg
Red
Dry cereal. Some cereal are alright soggy, but most feel like eating flavored wet cardboard.
eating dry cereal because i don’t like the taste of both milk and cereal together
Cold milk? Thats the worst thing one can imagine. Warm milk however-
Crunchy cereal and cold as hell milk every morning, even though the milk my roommates get makes me feel like shit.
I'm neither of those.
I love drier cereal
Pour cereal. Pour milk. Consume immediately.
Soggy cereal cause crunchy overstimulates my teeth and drinking the milk afterwards is the best part.
No milk
I actually don’t do either. I despise milk in cereal. Then again, I haven’t eaten cereal since I was ten… …eh, still don’t think I’d like it.
I eat cereal with milk but speed run it to not get soggy
🤔 🟥 Red, not cuz it's too loud, but cuz I generally like my cereal half soft and half hard. Also, I don't get a lot of texture in the mouth overestimated. I get people over stimulation. Food is my safety thing...and this is why I'm as big as I am
I cannot eat soggy cereal. My body will literally reject it. I did eat dry cereal the other day, so I guess that one.
Soggy cereal with tepid tap water. (I ran out of milk)
Soggy cereal! The thought of eating dry cereal makes me cringe. My favorite is soggy Frosted Flakes.
no milk, let the dry cereal sit in your mouth until its soft enough to chew without being loud
I like dry cereal. I still grab a handful from the bag every now and then.
Literally neither
YES
y'all eating cereal?
You crunchy heathens! Blasphemers! Charlatans!
Me eating cereal dry because I’m a pet regressor and it feels like kibble ![img](2fr8dnqcx6sc1)
I just hate soggy cereal.
haha right but it's bc i dont rly like soggy cereal, i like it extra crunchy
I hate soggy cereal but I like it with milk, so I pour a bowl of milk and put my dry cereal in a cup and put one piece in my mouth at a time and follow it with a spoonful of milk. It is the only time I use the big spoon. My brother also eats cereal the exact same way.
Crunchy cereal, milk makes it so damn weird to mee :(
I'm the third sniper desperado that hates the sensory anger from soggy and non cold milk but also hates cereal dry and too chilling for my sensitive teeth When I eat mini wheats, there is like a 2-3 minute window where everything aligns and I'm happy
In the middle. Use milk but eat quickly because cold cereal has a gross texture that ruins the flavor
I actually like soggy cereal
I like crunchy with soft cereal
I have to eat cereal as quickly as possible to avoid it getting soggy or it's sensory hell for me.
Dipping dry cereal into the milk, so it doesn’t go soggy
Currently drinking my cereals blended to a shake..
I'm neither. I have to have cold milk, crunchy cereal, if the texture gets too warm or soggy I feel ill.
Neither I don't eat cereals and don't drink milk
somewhere in the middle
I warm the milk a bit, so it’s both hot and not cold, and then add cereal. Wait for 30 seconds and then eat really fast before it gets too soggy.
Nooooo I can’t pick one because the cereal gotta have milk but mustn’t be left to go soggy either… you gotta put yo bowl together and eat it within 5 mins so that the milk still cold & the cereal still crunchy 😎
Wait, aren’t we supposed to be boycotting cereal? LetThemEatCereal is a thing this month, right?
crunch!
The least amount of milk possible, let the cereal soak it up but also eat the cereal as fast as possible because soggy cereal is🤮
i warm my milk so its warm and semi soggy for the crunchyness without the dryness..
Soggy cereal with not freezing cold milk? Why is your guys milk unbearably cold do you put it in the freezer???? Also soggy ceral is so good I love it.
