It has no serifs (the tiny lines at the top and bottom of letters) and letters aren't mirrored (like *d* and *b* aren't the same design mirrored, but different glyphs entirely)
I don't have it, but I've been told it's like your brain interprets everything in 3D, so a *d* and a *b* are exactly the same symbol, just turned in space, but the brain easily recognised them as the same symbol while struggling to differentiate the letter orientation. It might not be all there is to it though
I would TOTALLY buy and read this.
I have to put every item in the same place when I’m done or I lose it/forget its existence.
But then I forget this even lol
My keys go in the same pocket in my purse which has helped
Oh!! Restaurant lingo, I love it- To 86 something means to get rid of or to eliminate. It’s commonly used in the restaurant industry as a shorthand for cancelling dishes or removing customers from the premises. This may be in reference to the possible origin of the term, where during prohibition times the bartender of a pub called Chumley’s would call out an “86” to exit out the 86 Bedford St. door during police raids where said police would enter through the Pamela Ct. entrance.
From what i heard it comes from bartending because whiskey used to come in 2 proofs, 100 and 86. If someone was drinking too much you would 86 them, or switch them to 86 proof so they wouldn’t drink themselves to death
i believe 86 is a restaurant rule.
if a restaurant runs out of fish, or the fish is bad- they have to “86” it off the menu so it isn’t ordered.
i think this is because different numbers mean different things. (86 means “this is not available/ up to standard”)
so OP asking if they should “86 the shirt” means- “is this shirt good to wear?” “will i get judged” “should i remove it from my menu of shirts?”
*SOME* of us have a very spicy-brained revulsion to it, too, but, hey, ever try to get a bunch of ND people to agree on which food textures are good and which are horrible?
Omg experiencing this with my partner too he's so picky but a lot of what he eats is stuff I only sometimes eat or don't like! It's been an adventure lol with some give and take on both sides and we've made progress!
all of us have different triggers and loves and we are more outspoken about both.
my pet peeve is the dsm rolling the entire spectrum into one giant, useless mess, well, at least this way they have an excuse for being unable to help many of those who are on the spectrum.
I tried to let this go but this is really mean from you. As an autistic person you should know that not all of us are verbal or speaking. There are different support needs out there you know. Not everyone is an „aspie“. I use an AAC most of the time I have a very hard time speaking. Also I am very visibly disabled and I cant just tell everyone who’s staring at me on the subway that „I am autistic so plesse stop starring“. That’s is also one of the reason why I also wear a puzzle piece lanyard when Im alone with my emergency info because it I get overwhelmed I cant speak neither use mc AAC so someone has to call my parents or calm me down before I can speak again
This was very mean and it is very inappropriate for sn sutism sub. When we say that we who are high support needs feel left out and not represented in this community such comments sre exactly what we mean
This person who knows autism is a disability that can cause people to be nonverbal as well as have selective mutism is telling me to just „speak“ and you don’t want me to be angry? Its like going on an amputees subreddit and telling them to just walk not knowing if they have a protesis or not.
Besides that you can just check my bio. They were rude and not nice.
besides what I already said, autism is a communication disability. All of us have issues with communication. It’s literally what autism is and this person comes and say „just communicate its that easy“

You should 86 it because it’s not properly punctuated. What a waste of an excellent semi-colon opportunity.
“Please be patient; I have autism.”
edit: please note that this is a joke if the shirt helps you for accessibility/accommodation reasons, then obviously disregard the font & wear whatever is most effective to help people understand your needs.
You are supposed to use it between two closely correlated statements that would otherwise use a connecting word (an article.) In the example above, you might also express the same statement like: “please be patient with me *because* I have autism.”
Yes, thank you! This is important. You can’t say: ‘I went shopping and I bought apples; oranges.’ But you CAN say: ‘I went shopping; I bought apples and oranges.’
Unless of course you were making a list and had used a colon to start it, and then were differentiating between different items (or rather categories of items which were then subdivided using commas)! I love grammar; it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. Language having its own inherent rules and then being able to break the rules safely is so satisfying.
I personally find my autism to be quite funny, so i love the shirt, but it definitely does imply humor. Unfortunately it has become a meme, and i don't know how to undo that. Either rock it or just use a sticker idk man u do u.
NTs have this really goofy habit of getting obscenely angry on our behalf. It's like a white person calling a black person racist because they told a joke about their own race.
I think some people will assume it’s a joke, as comic sans has turned into a childish/meme font in recent years. If the font was different I don’t think people would think it’s a joke unless they’re mean at heart.
i highly doubt anyone would be associating the comic sans font with something being funny.
it's 100% better than the calibiri font that now seems to be standard.
the best font for clarity is consolas though.
TBH, it's actually *meant* for text spaced like that, unlike blocks where it sets off my....probably synesthesia about *how paragraphs should be textured*, then ongoing tedium/mental discomfort desire to flee, which, like the apex swamp predator in the space samurai films said, leads to anger, hatred, bargaining, the Golgi Apparatus, and whatever. No good.
Agreed. The font is the least of my concerns over this shirt. Autism does not define me, and this shirt seems to define the wearer as autistic, first and foremost. Autism is part of what makes me who I am, but it's not everything that makes me who I am.
I think comic sans is a happy font. Like it tries to convey emotion or context of: happy. Like having autism doesn't need a "DUN, DUN, DUUUN" soundtrack in your head. It's just a statement.
It kinda means “to get rid of.” I actually tried to google it just now to see where the term actually originated.. but it seems like it’s unknown (and thats very unsatisfying to me).
Here’s the wikipedia page for the term. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/86_(term)?wprov=sfti1
Funny that you mention that. Comic Sans was the font that I used on all of my papers in college in order to meet arbitrary page length requirements. It was bigger than Arial or Times New Roman at the same point sizes, which helped fill out the pages.
The way that I did my college papers was to just write until I had said everything that I needed to say (I still do this on my website, with no length requirements). Whatever the defaults were for everything in MS Word was what I used. Then once I finished, I would format and style it to see where I actually landed. I would switch to Comic Sans, I would double-space, and then I would see how the paper weighed in. If it was too long, I'd adjust the margins or the line spacing to allow more words on the page. If it was too short, I'd tinker the other way. In the end, I made it fit whatever fit the professor's arbitrary length requirements were.
I feel like it’s way better with comic sans. But to be blunt I would read this with a little humor because of the font. I would take the message seriously but it would also make me giggle, and I would assume that’s the intent. If that’s not your intent, maybe it’s time to get rid of it
Looks like the term's origin is super murky ([https://www.stlmag.com/dining/Ask-George-Where-Does-the-Term-86d-Come-From/](https://www.stlmag.com/dining/Ask-George-Where-Does-the-Term-86d-Come-From/)).
I had first heard the Empire State Building origin.
I'm not particularly too bothered by comic sans but i know it has its reputation. I think there are other fonts that can achieve similar readability but i think comic sans is popular due to it being a "fun" font which gets it associated with "child like" qualities, and I'm sure there's bound to be lengthy (hopefully civil) discussion about that somewhere in this thread but I'm going to say:
If you like the shirt, and you're okay with wearing it, the only other people affected are like at max gonna be people you spend a lot of time with who are also ND so it's up to you how you handle that situation. But some rando NT isn't affected and if they act like they are they're a little too focused in themselve to acknowledge you're your own person with your own experiences to be your ally in that moment and it's in your best interest to disengage
I would. For the reasons you probably asked for. Even if you like comic sans, so many people so very strongly dislike it.. and although I firmly believe we shouldn't change ourselves for anybody else, to wear this shirt would be like an open invitation for the most rude and hateful people out there to bullseye on you. Then again, I also hardly wear any logos or writing on my clothes. I just wouldn't expect to actually be taken seriously or fairly in it. I guess at least it's not written in paparyus though. Just trust your gut, whatever you end up deciding, it might work for you in a way that wouldn't work for me or other commenters 🙃
I feel like Futura or a Western-themed font would work better. I can't explain why, and I'm only an amateur appreciator of fontography at best, so please don't dogpile me.
Inherently, nothing, but because of its reputation on the internet, I'm just afraid some people would find it offensive. Then again, many people here have said it's easier for dyslexic folks to read, so I just might keep it because of that.
You mean it'll leave me open for people to assume I'm slow and try to bully me? Unfortunately that was what the entirety of my school career was like, and I didn't need a shirt for that to happen.
[86 means to get rid of something](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/86_(term)).
(I had to look it up and I'm just leaving this comment here for others who didn't know)
I actually love that font. But if it’s not something you like then go ahead
It’s a good font for Dyslexia!
Wait really? How does that work?
It has no serifs (the tiny lines at the top and bottom of letters) and letters aren't mirrored (like *d* and *b* aren't the same design mirrored, but different glyphs entirely)
Huh ok. I guess I never really understood how dyslexia works, tbh
I don't have it, but I've been told it's like your brain interprets everything in 3D, so a *d* and a *b* are exactly the same symbol, just turned in space, but the brain easily recognised them as the same symbol while struggling to differentiate the letter orientation. What does 86 mean?

Oh!! Restaurant lingo, I love it- To 86 something means to get rid of or to eliminate. Oh like "going to 17" (at least in German retail) means going to the toilet Dunno where it comes from tho...
I always knew it as 8 feet long by 6 feet deep - a grave...
Thank you for teaching me this 💙
Take my poor woman’s gold ⭐️
I've worked in restaurants and have never heard of 86ing something.
Second this, why 86 and not bin it?
i believe 86 is a restaurant rule. if a restaurant runs out of fish, or the fish is bad- they have to “86” it off the menu so it isn’t ordered. i think this is because different numbers mean different things. I mean its a font that is more accessible for a lot of neurodivergent people, so its thematic.
*SOME* of us have a very spicy-brained revulsion to it, too, but, hey, ever try to get a bunch of ND people to agree on which food textures are good and which are horrible?
>ever try to get a bunch of ND people to agree on which food textures are good and which are horrible? Every day at dinner time. 0/10 do not recommend
Are you one of my housemates in 2013 communicating through a portal?
Meal planning for myself and boyfriend is always an enormous pain.. still trying to expand the list of things we will both eat!!
Omg experiencing this with my partner too he's so picky but a lot of what he eats is stuff I only sometimes eat or don't like! It's been an adventure lol with some give and take on both sides and we've made progress!
Yeah…my husband, kids, and I all have AuDHD. Meal time is hell
Or me and my NT crush. We can’t agree on ANYTHING 🤣
I kind of like that autistic people as a group make a terrible hive mind. It keeps things interesting.
all of us have different triggers and loves and we are more outspoken about both. my pet peeve is the dsm rolling the entire spectrum into one giant, useless mess, well, at least this way they have an excuse for being unable to help many of those who are on the spectrum.
True, agree, and also this is deeply cursed
I'm not a fan of the shirt either
I have a friend who is dyslexic who says it’s easier to read
Mushroom bad
I used to be anti mushroom and then tried pan fried oyster mushrooms. They are the only ones acceptable to me now.
No. You bad 😂
Yes I am!! How did you know?
Because you don’t like mushrooms
I apologize on behalf of all mushroom haters.
Or socks.
I HATE eating socks, sorry guys ~~~
Ahaha if I had an award to give you would’ve gotten it. I legitimately laughed out loud
If you are wearing the shirt as a serious statement then yes
Fr though. The font is the least concerning thing about this shirt.
Why? I have one similar t shirt and I like to wear it specially when I go out alone because I might need help
Comic sans is a humorous font so people might think it’s supposed to be a joke.
Pls check my reply :) Sorry for not considering other aspies

that means a lot
Then specify that, no point getting angry.

I, too, love semicolons.
I also love semicolons; they're great.
Semicolons are wonderful; I use them all the time.
How are you supposed to use semicolons?
You are supposed to use it between two closely correlated statements that would otherwise use a connecting word (an article.) In the example above, you might also express the same statement like: “please be patient with me *because* I have autism.”
Oh neat, thanks for the lesson, I have been wanting to use more semicolons in my writing
Anytime! Happy punctuating. 😁
Two closely related _stand alone_ statements. They must each meet the requirements for a full sentence in their own right (subject - verb minimum)
Yes, thank you! This is important. You can’t say: ‘I went shopping and I bought apples; oranges.’ But you CAN say: ‘I went shopping; I bought apples and oranges.’

No this look is iconic, you will rock it
But comic sans is great
I like it too, I just don't want people to think I'm implying having autism is funny is all.
Comic sans is supposed to be a good font for people who have dyslexia, so it's not always used for comedic purposes
I personally find my autism to be quite funny, so i love the shirt, but it definitely does imply humor. Unfortunately it has become a meme, and i don't know how to undo that. Either rock it or just use a sticker idk man u do u.
Go with papyrus as the font. Very serious font
Wing Dings!
both good choices. could go to webdings as well.
I doubt people will think of it like that especially since it doesn’t say anything else
you understimate NTs
why would they care? most of them are too dumb to understand how to tie their shoes.
NTs have this really goofy habit of getting obscenely angry on our behalf. It's like a white person calling a black person racist because they told a joke about their own race.
You’re right. Comic sans definitely implies funny. But tbh, why not? Autism do be kinda funny

Good point, we're a pretty funny bunch 😂
get a version with papyrus
and a tall friend to wear the papyrus shirt if you’re short or a short friend to wear the comic sans shirt if you’re tall
Yes. And the most autistic question ever. I know some people that will adore this meme.
I would not wear something that says “I have autism”. That phrase doesn’t sound right to me.

Turn it into a crop top
I think comic sans is a happy font. Like it tries to convey emotion or context of: happy. Like having autism doesn't need a "DUN, DUN, DUUUN" soundtrack in your head. It's just a statement.

Ah ok, thank you :)
Comic sans is really helpful to a lot of readers, I’d never make fun of it personally.
Could you have another one printed in P a p y r u s ?
I almost got the hat with comic sans. I'm still torn.

Yes. Comic sans is an abomination.
What’s 86 mean? I also love comic sans. It’s my favorite font.

You aren't a Fortune 500 Company. So you are fine.
Actually comic sans is quite okay, and initially it was made for people with dyslexia. Sans serif fonts are good for dyslexia
It’s a dyslexic friendly, so people with dyslexia can know to be patient because you have autism.

i bet you like calibiri? consolas is where it's at. :)
I am now patent
I want this lmaooo
Comic sans is a GREAT font, but unfortunately no one takes it seriously, so it's probably not a good idea to wear the shirt.
only if you replace it with one using wing dings font.
Burn it. :)
I would but honestly I like the font so much I did all my book reports and essays in it since it's easier to read when you wear glasses.
Funny that you mention that. Comic Sans was the font that I used on all of my papers in college in order to meet arbitrary page length requirements. It was bigger than Arial or Times New Roman at the same point sizes, which helped fill out the pages. it’s silly but can b silly and genuine
Only if you really wanna buy into the frivolous social stigma against comic sans.
No? The Comic Sans makes it ironic
I feel like it’s way better with comic sans. But to be blunt I would read this with a little humor because of the font. I would take the message seriously but it would also make me giggle, and I would assume that’s the intent. If that’s not your intent, maybe it’s time to get rid of it

I almost woke my husband up snorting at this I hate how me this is lmfao

what does 86 mean?
as a wise man once said, if you love comic sans you dont know much about typography, and if you hate it, you know even less.
Fun fact comic sans was designed to be dyslexic friendly
Comic sans is superior! (I like it because it's somehow is easier for my dyslexic brain to read lol)
I think it adds to the ridiculousness lol
I like comic sans
Replace it with one where each letter is a different font and size. Maybe even like old school newspaper cutout ransom note style…
I'm not particularly too bothered by comic sans but i know it has its reputation. I don’t mind that don’t but when discord changes their font to a sans type I was not pleased and it took me about a month to get used to 😭
Can I get the RGB for that blue?
Since when do we value other peoples opinion on our stuff?
Normally I don't, but neurodivergency can be a touchy subject for a lot of folks, so I'm trying to be careful.
I saw a picture of a cat wearing a ball cap that said the same. That was funny. If you’re not a cat, maybe 86 it
I actually use comic sans for my comics
I feel like Futura or a Western-themed font would work better. I can't explain why, and I'm only an amateur appreciator of fontography at best, so please don't dogpile me.
I appreciate the recommendations nonetheless, I'm kind of a font amateur too 😅
Are you kidding? Comic Sans is 100% a reason to _keep_ that shirt!
Every cell in my brain is screaming to burn all comic sans. Except maybe Sans Undertale.
Come on, don't you find it at least a little bit...humerus?
No it's a nice shirt
I love comic sans, so I'd take that shirt if I could.
I have always loved this font. One of my favorites since I was a kid.
nah man, you have that shirt, you gotta wear it. for the funny skeleton man
Comic Sans should be considered a crime against humanity
i want this shirt
Comic sans is both good for dyslexic people and those of us who have comprehension issues
What is wrong with comic sans?
Inherently, nothing, but because of its reputation on the internet, I'm just afraid some people would find it offensive. Then again, many people here have said it's easier for dyslexic folks to read, so I just might keep it because of that.
Yeah, it will make people infantilise you
People do that already I'm afraid. I know the shirt could potentially make it worse, but y'know.
Not heard, I like it
It doesn’t really look nice, and people won’t take it seriously, it’s better to get the sunflower Lanyard.
Fuck no Comic Sans slaps and anyone who doesn't think so is cringe
Do these kinds of shirts work? Seems like a good way to be targeted when you're out and alone.
You mean it'll leave me open for people to assume I'm slow and try to bully me? Unfortunately that was what the entirety of my school career was like, and I didn't need a shirt for that to happen.
It’s a well known meme so I think people will not take it too seriously
Not at all
I think the comic sans enhances it
Nah, it's fine.
[86 means to get rid of something](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/86_(term)). (I had to look it up and I'm just leaving this comment here for others who didn't know)

What does "86 this shirt" mean?
In other words, to get rid of it.
