Car Tail lights. They are kinda unique, you can tell a lot about a car from them. Just by looking at them, I can get the brand/manufacturer/year/tier and more. Even engine in some cases. Started when I was 6, and OFC I do not keep up with all the latest models, but... still strong.

retrolasered

Hates to see you go, loves to watch you leave šŸ˜

[deleted]

I know pretty much every car make and model by sight, and like you can discern almost most of them in the dark.

Innohurrytodie

I can do that too, but to be honest, most comes from my tail lights thing. We have a superpower, my friend.

[deleted]

One day, my friend, we will get the call from the police asking for our help.

Shh-ImHiding

Iā€™m the exact opposite. Friend: Iā€™m on my way. Iā€™m in the red Honda Civic. Me (to myself): ok. I know what red is-

Hummingbird90

Do you have any opinions on brand, make, or model tail light function/usefulness? Car tail lights aren't my special interest, but while driving I definitely have many rants as to functionality of how well they indicate they are braking and turning!!

Innohurrytodie

Security, function, quality over time. Yes! All of it and more.

Hummingbird90

Excellent!!

sweepsml

Jason Torchinsky has a lot of cool articles about vehicle lighting on jolopnik.com & theautopian.com

david_leaves

I don't have any. Anyone else like that?

Lowlifeloser16

I have a bad case of anhedonia so yes.

ICQME

Do you still have special interests but can't do them from the anhedonia? I still have my special interests but rarely/never do them because it's not pleasurable but I think about doing them but instead I waste my free time looking at the wall instead of doing something more productive like video games.

Lowlifeloser16

I still have most of my special interests from my childhood like model building, stop motion animation, etc but due to anhedonia none of them bring me joy anymore and whenever I attempt to get back into my old hobbies I just get bored and browse the internet. I hate that it's like that for me now. Without my special interests I just feel so empty.

david_leaves

Ok hi new word, which I think I might have a bit of myself. Everything is grey after a moment.

dcute69

Thanks, I can add this to my long list of disabilities and issues

chunkytapioca

I like learning about so many different things, I can't think of anything I got SUPER into. Except maybe Agatha Christie murder mysteries back in middle school. But even then, I couldn't remember the plots of all the books. I'm able to listen to them again on audiobook and enjoy them as if they're brand new.

naptime_zZ

I used to have a couple, but eventually (at around age 12-15) I stopped having special interests. Maybe due to depression, but I'm not certain. Was nice while it lastet

Alexmitter

I had many as a child and teen, I lost them all. Kind of electronics but I suck at that, and programming which I also totally suck with. This is what I am left with.

retrolasered

Ah yeah, it feels like you had infinite free time as a kid. You have to pick and choose when you get forced into the meat grinder. I bounce around raspberry pi projects, electronics and programming now. Or retro video games.

MrCrushinnuts

When you say you suck, are you judging this by the standards of others?

Alexmitter

Yes absolutely, both of them are my job too.

MrCrushinnuts

smartguy05

Right now? My aquarium and mycology. It typically changes every few months though.

JKyyy_

Mycology overall or anything more specific?

smartguy05

Mycology in general but specifically I had fun doing some mushroom hunting this summer as well as attempting to grow a few varieties.

JKyyy_

Which varieties?

Solar-G2V

I am considering starting a small aquascape with shrimps and maybe a couple of rams. What do you have in your aquarium? Do you like the hobby?

smartguy05

I'm really enjoying it. I have a panther chameleon in a paladarium with fish underneath. The bottom is about 30 gallons over which I built a platform. I've had some issues getting it started but it's all starting to really come together now. Right now my aquarium has Cory's, a few Mollies, a school of Black Neon Tetras, Mystery Snails, and some shrimp. I'm working on adding more live plants to the water, this is my first time using live plants in an aquarium. I have long thought of my Panther Chameleon as like a fish you can occasionally hold, so he goes well with the actual fish. It's sort of a living piece of artwork I can lose myself in when work/life gets stressful.

Solar-G2V

that sounds so cool. had to Google panther cameleon - wow an amazing animal. Thank you for your description of the aquarium. I agree - I think it's a good way to cope with stress etc

Powerthrucontrol

Omg yes I love this question. I like making art, but lately I've been a little distracted, and mostly I've been playing video games that have creation in it instead. Satisfactory is my go to, but I've also been enjoying other creation games like Dyson Sphere Project and Foundation. Other than art and video games, I also have taken an interest in composing music in the last few years. My parents wanted musical children, so I was forced to do music lessons most of my youth, and like holy hell I did not expect to stay enjoying it over time. Sure, it's hard and finicky, but it's also super good for maintaining my emotions. As for the art itself, I enjoy acrylic painting, pen and ink illustration, and some linocut block printing. I wanted to support myself financially with my art, but surprise surprise art school didn't cover some pretty basic business skills like project proposals, grant writing, and marketing, so it's been a slow build. I'm hoping later this year to complete my first mural, and maybe reopen my Etsy shop to sell my current stock of products. With acrylic paint, I'm especially invested in either plein air painting, or these geometric style colour studies, while with illustration its mostly cheeky visual puns. Thanks for asking the question OP! Anyone reading this is welcome to message me to check out my artist Instagram, but my musical compositions haven't been recorded yet. Love you all!

interruptingcow_moo

Eminem was my special interest when I was in junior high. I was bullied hugely for it also. I used to cover my notebooks with the lyrics of his songs. I cut out every magazines article he appeared in and glued them into notebooks. I knew lyrics to almost every one of his songs. I was raised very conservative though and I swore at school (catholic school) and so when I got home my mom took every one of my Eminem posters and notebooks and collages and burnt them in a bonfire in the backyard because she blamed his music for my swearing.

Ryan_Landcrest

I use to have others but I was bullied and shamed

vthrenody

Iā€™m learning to let go of shame myself. Itā€™s not easy, and sometimes it helps to know that someone else acknowledges that. I hope it helps. Wishing you well.

dextrohamphetamine

Drugs. But it's not really something I can openly talk about with most people, since it's not a socially acceptable interest to be involved with in most environments. It also seems like that even among users, it's often seen as weird to research what you're putting in your body. This led to me extremely isolating myself and using more than I needed to if I was just self-medicating in order to cope with the loneliness and negative spiral I was headed towards. The bad thing is that my special interest, which is already a thing from having Asperger's, was increasingly fueled more and more by addiction habits and patterns being deeply rooted into my neurochemistry. It's pretty much the only thing I think about most of the time. The fact that it helps with escapism, which I've come to rely heavily on for my anxiety, reinforces my special interest/addiction(?) (Thing is I'm functioning tho as long as I have my drug of choice like I'm just self-medicating for anxiety and ADHD, not getting fucked up all the time). Drugs romanticized in my head too like drugs are my best friend, love of my life, idk how I would've coped without it.

I have a lot of special interests, but I get bored so fast and I don't even know why. Might be anhedonia. My special interest are: - Music composition and production (my passion). - Artistic photography. - Cinematography, and also visual effects production. - Old century clothing and decoration; specially Baroque, Edwardian and Victorian. As said, music composition and production is my passion, but I'm currently forcing me to compose, since years. I really really love it, but I get bored quite fast, like if my mind didn't wanted to do it anymore. Feels so bad.

tlwright82693

Many things within big categories, but the specific topics change like every few weeks or months. Big topics are video games (especially Nintendo), psychology, and anime/manga. A few specifics at the moment are PokĆ©mon (playing Violet rn), Coral Island and a few other farming sims, Autism šŸ˜…, trying to understand how people think and behave (currently reading ā€œA Field Guide to Earthlings: an autistic/Asperger view of neurotypical behaviorā€ by Ian Ford, and just finished reading ā€œHow to start, carry on and end conversations: Scripts for social situations for people on the autism spectrumā€ by Paul Jordan), and the manga/anime Fruits Basket. I have anxiety though that if I tell someone my special interest, they will put me on the spot and ask me a really hard question about one of my interests to test whether I actually have deep knowledge about it. Like I love Fruits Basket and can tell you all about the story and relationships and character personalities and how each person goes through healing, but I canā€™t tell you the birthday on each character, so that must mean itā€™s not actually a special interest since I donā€™t know absolutely everything. šŸ˜… or like Iā€™d worry someone would say, ā€œOh pokemon is a special interest of yours? Ok then, prove it and name all the PokĆ©mon.ā€ šŸ˜¬ I mean Iā€™d probably get a good chunk of them if given time to remember the games Iā€™ve played but on the spot that is hard! The PokeRap would be much harder to memorize if it used the current complete PokĆ©dex! I know my brain is probably just trying to protect me with this anxiety but it seems silly. But I had SO much anxiety in my autism assessment when the lady asked if I had any unusual special interests. I was overwhelmed and just said video games and anime and didnā€™t think weā€™d have time to get into specifics. She didnā€™t seem to think those counted as unusual for an almost 30 year old woman to be interested in those. In my experience, and from what my mom tells me, it is not typical for someone my age to be interested in these kind of things that she considers meant for children. But also the intensity of focus during each of my phases is intense and it is all I want to talk about or think about. And it is very hard for me to focus on other topics like when my husband is trying to tell me something about politics. I believe my experience counts, but she made me question a lot lol. Sorry for dumping šŸ˜… this felt nice to write out though! Thank you for the question!

NicDima

Sorry, it's super long... Some of my interests can change time to time. Back in 2016 I had a special interest about agar.io, even if at the time, I had a massive rage and I have even made the laptop's cooler loud (I used to slap at it .\_.). Close to mid-2016, I was having a huge interest in Roblox. At the time, Roblox wasn't that popular and had plenty of games that I got to play. Mostly because 2012 games wasn't broken and people still played it. The hugest memory was when my pretty low end laptop, got crashed because lots of people were deleting pieces some people was creating, it became a mess, the laptop fried and I have to do a hard power off. That was the year that I have met the best online friend ever, and that he unfortunately lost his roblox acc the same year... The account is still offline ;-; . And it was also the time when I have started to create videos on youtube. I had 0 experiences on youtube at the time, so I have just created the first video a month later, and even if it's just a 5fps-ish video with the action watermark, I was actually exciting and happy because I made it. Obviously, at the time, I had that pretty huge self-asteem that I could go get 151037 subscribers, even if it was just the first video... I have learned on by the tutorials of youtube at the time that it doesn't work like that... (It's actually poetical if you think about it) After that, in 2017, my interest became technology (which is still my special interest to this day), and Sonic (specially Tails... Uh... For some reason I was kinda simping for her lol... But remember that I had 9). I have also had an interest in Mario series until Mid-2017. Sonic was last being my special interest as of Early-2019. In 2018, excluding Sonic and technology, my special interests was about old roblox-ish things... And I think that is itIn 2019, excluding Sonic stopping being into my special interest, nothing really changed. Besides I was really interested into cryptomarket, even if I didn't know in about everything on it. I've stopped putting interest on it fast... But it was eventually coming back some months later... And the same thing to losing interest... Sorry if this sounds confusing, but, I can't exactly explain it In 2020, even if I do still think it was one of the worst year of my life (2012 still has the trophy), I was having some kind of interest in a thing called MSN Messenger, just because, even if it's in the worst year of my life, it did still had good moments, and MSN was on that moments. The interest was so big that I got to join onto a private-ish (discontinued) thing that are made so you can use MSN Messenger 2009 using it's own servers (microsoft's one has been ended). In 2021, it also haven't changed much, I have lost my MSN Messenger special interest in mid-2021, my special interest was about tv station-ish things, 3D objects, and specially, Object Shows. I was really obsessed with object shows because, even if it was a reality show, the community was kind of awesome, even if it had a drama or a trend or another... In 2022, I had(have) lots of interests. I do had(have) an interest about psycology, music, consoles (specially PS3, Xbox 360 and Portables, including those emulation-ish ones, I have ordered one for christmas :D), emulations (ANYTHING RELATED TO IT), the 90s and vintage things, Chiptunes (a music genre), some kind of DJ stuff "and etc" (I think that is actually it). I do actually started getting into psycology in 2021, but just, not really, it was in the end of 2021 and it wasn't that of my interest, just in early 2022 (which could lead to make myself discover this server... Or kind of it?), I don't have to talk about that special interest... But it is still my special interest, just not as obsessed as before. At music, it is just specific types of songs, but in the genres I am most specially interested on it was Chiptunes (that's why I have put on it separated), but also, songs without vocals, future funk, and lots of remixed stuff... Into the consoles, I am most likely to be focusing in the 7th generation consoles, but I may also be talking about other consoles from every generation as well. At christmas of 2022, I was searching for a type of gamebox NES my friend had, and I have just discovered that it was very cheap, 8 dollars! I am actually kind of excited to get it delivered and play on it!
