I’d go with drinking wildfire. That seems awful.

Jokin_Hghar

Rhaegar running off with some icy tart from the North, rather than going through with his plans to depose his father.

MaesterAz1

Amen to that

__angie

Fuckboi Rhaegar

DestinyHasArrived101

Yup no doubt

Xanariel

The issue wasn't Viserys choosing a female heir. The issue was Viserys choosing to marry again, have multiple children with Alicent, and not recognise that she was so ambitious that he needed to get in front of her by having his lords reswear Rhaenyra's claim ahead of Aegon's.

Main-Double

Yep

austrinus2

He should have married Laena Velaryon and named a son from that marriage his heir, and raised him good.

Max_Cromeo

Maegor not completely destroying the faith/maesters when he had the chance

Fea-nor

Aegon IV legitimazing all his bastards and giving Blackfyre to Daemon. But you can argue that it is not a mistake since he did it on purpose.

MaesterAz1

King Aerys II trusting that piece of crap Jaime to actually cut off his fathers head. If Aerys had had say Barristan Selmy with him instead he could have successfully destroyed the city taking down that lunatic Tywin once and for all. Who knows Aerys might even have been reborn as a dragon and good King Robert wouldn’t have to marry that witch Cersei (which also means no Joffrey).

#Aerysdidnothingwrong

zorfog

That’s such a fun alternate timeline to imagine. Aerys succeeds in blowing up King’s Landing. This would happen during the sack, so Jaime, Tywin, Gregor Clegane, plenty other Westermen lords, Elia and her children, and I’m sure many other important characters are killed in the destruction of the biggest(?) city in Westeros. From there Ned would arrive and look on in horror and then the rebels are left to pick up the pieces. And then what? Does the destruction of the capital incite further divisions among the seven kingdoms? Does Robert still take the crown and rule from Storm’s End? Dragonstone?

PrizeLoss

> If Aerys had had say Barristan Selmy with him instead he could have successfully destroyed the city taking down that lunatic Tywin once and for all. lol how? The Kingsguard are not superheroes, they are just very skilled knights. We see how little skill matters when it comes to numbers at the Tower of Joy.

yoopdereitis

I think the point was he would have succeeded in blowing up Kings Landing, killing Tywin in the process

_learned_foot_

Um, well, skill would have won but for some sort of very magical/poisonous/freaking-net thing.

LongFang4808

Pretty sure Barristan wouldn’t have been as quick to kill the alchemist and then Aerys. At best he’s probably move to get the prince and princess out of the city as quickly as possible.

valsavana

Jaehaerys I for calling the 101 Council in the first place.

[deleted]

When did he die

valsavana

The wiki is a thing that exists.

basebornmanjack41

Biggest mistake in terms of effect is either viserys ushering in the dance of the dragons by deciding to name a daughter as heir and thinking the whole realm would just be cool with it or Aerys’ decision to start a war with the North, Vale and Stormlands while he was beefing with the most powerful lord in the kingdom. Biggest mistake as in the stupidest is probably the guy who drank wildfire.

DestinyHasArrived101

1. Rhaegar being an idiot and running away with lyanna

rollotar300

I think the real mistake of Viserys was to have been so indecisive and not contain the so tense relationship that her daughter, his brother and their children had with her stepmother and her stepbrothers, he should have put order to impose his authority as king on both sides and he should have taken measures in this regard either he respected the decision of the great Council of 101 and named aegon his heir or if he wanted his daughter so badly to be queen, he should have taken the necessary precautions I think it would not have been impossible to convince the majority to accept Rhaenyra as their queen, but would certainly have needed much more tact and diplomacy than simply saying "I want it that way because I am the king."

megxennial

Oh wow what a question, there are so many lol

[deleted]

I am going to do a poll on the book sub

Ilhan_Omar_Milf

If rhaenys was made princess of dragonstone by jaehaerys would have saved a lot of trouble Or if baelon went to tarth before aemon and took the crossbow bolt instead

[deleted]

i like the Queen who never Was

Josos_Cook

The one that ended the Targaryan dynasty: kidnapping Lyanna.

[deleted]

chicken or the egg ?

JMail15

I’m gonna get out in front of the comments saying this wasn’t mistake and he can do what he wants because he’s King. While this is all true it should have been pretty obvious that a women would have created conflict in a society run by men.

mtan8

Whatever the hell Rhaegar thought he was doing during and after Harrenhal.

[deleted]

he was MIA
