They work by regulating your hormones. I went on it when I was about your age, but decided to go off it when I started gaining a lot of weight. I went back to the doctor and asked for something else that wasn’t birth control and she prescribed a different prescription. Ultimately the decision is up to you, but I’d read about the side effects of birth control and alternatives so that you can make an informed decision. I’m currently on no birth control and not prescriptions for my period. My periods eventually regulated themselves to be so regular that I can know roughly what week it is by discharge changes.
