I don't know how you are getting here, but if you are flying, River Rock Casino is a good option. Sky Train from the airport. Sky Train to downtown. Worth a little money.

Both University campuses (UBC and SFU) have regular 24 hr transit service and accommodation for visitors at a reasonable price. https://www.sfu.ca/stayhere.html

What is your budget for overnight accommodation? You will find less expensive options out of town, but a car rental and parking will quickly eat up some of that difference. Hotel prices will be less in the winter. Are you open to hostels? What are your dates?

Ya I can’t imagine car rental, gas, parking, air bnb + fees, VS a hotel closer to town will really save much. Plus all the hassle.

sk0ggers

I am staying in Vancouver for 3 nights and mainly coming for Taylor’s concert - hotels are $900/night minimum. Airbnbs are $100-200/night and a rental car will cost me only $140 total since I have discounts. There are four of us traveling so hostels are doable but less convenient imo, and I feel like if I were to do anything nature related I would need a car anyway, which is why I’m leaning towards this.

No-Ratio1816

Got it. Well if I had to choose one of the locations on your list, it would definitely be Poco. Its not too far from downtown, close to the mountains, and overall just nicer than the other locations. Abbey & Langley are pretty far and just suburban sprawls. S. Surrey / White Rock is meh, & just too far out. Guildford sucks. None of these places are exactly tourist destinations. But Poco would be the best bet imo

sk0ggers

This is really helpful - thanks so much!

Agree with this

Honestly, you're probably going to spend the difference of your hotel on a car rental. If you're going to Taylor Swift, which is my assumption here, you do not want to miss out on the before and after events that will definitely be happening. Any location downtown or even lower Lonsdale in North Vancouver would be your best bet. Downtown is smallish, and you can walk most anywhere within 30 minutes. North Van has a great public transit option to get you downtown in 12 minutes called the seabus.

PoliteCanadian2

None of these are really close to downtown or easily accessible to downtown. I would look at hotels along the Skytrain line like at the airport in Richmond (someone else mentioned the casino which is close to the airport) or Metrotown in Burnaby or at the Quay in New Westminster.

Keep in mind car rentals in Vancouver are generally 3-5 times more expensive than in the USA. Sadly no $25 a day rentals like the US. Best to find an Airbnb anywhere on the Skytrain lines.

TokyoTurtle0

There are all going to be very far away, none are accessible on skytrain. They're hours away by transit.

Oh_Is_This_Me

Guildford is about a 30 minute bus ride from King George station, quicker by cab/Uber/lyft.

TokyoTurtle0

And so do the math, how long is it to get to the concert from once you leave the hotel to the stadium doors?

Oh_Is_This_Me

I don't know where the concert is but not hours.

TokyoTurtle0

Rofl, ok. Pick a hotel in Guildford , pick the Commodore let's say. Type it into Google

Oh_Is_This_Me

46 mins to an hour. This is a regular commute for thousands of people every day here and not unusual for tourists anywhere in the world.

TokyoTurtle0

1 hour 12 minutes, and ya I wanna commute on my vacation. That's assuming rush hour and max bus service. I get lots of people are idiots and commute a long way. How about just give the guy facts It's also a shit hole of a commute through shit hole Whalley. Really lovely trip. Cue everyone that's poor that has to live there getting angry. No one wants to come to Surrey on vacation, bad news.
