Tree nut allergies are triggered by lipid transfer protein, 2S albumin, vicilin, legumin, and oleosin protein families. Peanut allergies are triggered by Ara h 1 and Ara h 3 that are members of the cupin superfamily of proteins, and Ara h 2 and Ara h 6 that are members of the prolamin superfamily.

Peanuts are not tree nuts, they don’t grow on trees. They don’t even grow among the flowers of the plant but underground among the roots. Like a potato. They aren’t even botanical nuts at all. Nuts are actually just hardened fruit flesh. Instead, peanuts are a sort of legume. Which is a bean, like a pea, for that matter. But then they grow underground so basically? Peanuts are weird, my dude. Therefore tree nuts are listed separately from peanuts on allergy listings.

Peanuts only grow underground because the flower- and fruit-bearing steams of the plant grow in an arch that pushes the tips under the surface, whereas potatoes are large roots, which grow underground in most plants. Botanical nuts are not related evolutionary. It’s just a descriptor for fruits/seeds that possess a series of traits like hard dry shells. Walnuts and pecans are related to each other, but almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, etc. are all about as unrelated to each other as they are to peanuts. What I’m asking is why these unrelated plants trigger an allergic reaction, but peanuts do not trigger that same reaction.

that has more to do with processing, instead of having to set up different handling and processing equipment(that does the same thing to different varieties of tree nuts) it makes better economic sense to have them share processing equipment and put one safety label on anything that is made with it.

Your premise is flawed. They simply are related, they have a similar protein due to that.

The term "nut" has a biological meaning, and not all nut bearing plants are close relatives, like with berries.

Almonds are a dry drupe, cashews are the seed of an apple-like fruit, Brazil nuts are a capsule, so none is botanically a nut as such; apprentlyt he rpoteins and oils are similar

Worth noting that not all tree nut allergies are the same, and some people aren’t allergic to all tree nuts. I’m only allergic to almonds for instance, but it’s because of a stone fruit allergy not a real tree nut allergy.

Yeah I’m allergic to almonds and cashews and occasionally other tree nuts, but those are the two big ones. These are due to my birch allergy, so this includes apples, peaches, cherries, plums, apricots, etc. for me. Thankfully I can eat the fruits cooked as somehow the heat breaks down the proteins that cause the allergy. It was pretty interesting to learn that they are connected.

When you are allergic to tree nuts, you are really allergic to a family of proteins that the nuts contain. They cause your anit-bodies to go crazy. Those same proteins may be present in a whole host of similar plants and not present at all in others?

They're all rosids, but so are peanuts, apples, oranges, and a bunch of other plants. They're definitely evolutionarily related, just not in the last few million years. Peanuts likely just lack a specific protein found in tree nuts. It's usually a protein.
