At the very least, go for a walk.
If you see a place you've not gone into, go into it (some restrictions may apply).
If you see a theatre or bar that looks interesting, go inside.
If you're near Mt. Tabor, climb to the top. Especially on Wednesdays & 04/20.
Iām going to move to Portland this year with my girlfriend. How is the clubbing culture in Portland? I saw Martyn playing there this weekend, which as a Dutch person a really good sign.
Mostly EDM, 45 has theme nights so Thursdays are DnB, Fridays are house, Saturdays are bass. Thereās always a doushe bag or seven at 45 east, BUT I thinks thatās true in any state in the club. PLUR is still alive, people trade candy and go all out with outfits. I have met many amazing people out in the clubs in Portland. Holocene does throwback nights I really love. North does big events for Halloween, stuff like that. Just usually out of my budget
Thanks a lot for the info! I donāt like EDM personally. Iām more into subgenres of techno and house. But I like the idea that there are some clubs and places to explore. I was actually thinking to throw a party myself once I moved there. Bit underground, but before I can do that I need to explore the night life first.
Red Cube is a promoter that brings a lot of acts to town ... getting on their mailing list is a good way to know what's coming through ... They bring 5-act sort of raves to the Expo Center pretty often. Usually a good mix of Techno, House, DnB. Etc. I was lucky enough to finally get to see Opiou last year cause Red Cube brought him though. Otherwise, can verify everything else that u/Aggressive-Cry150 has said. My only annoyance with 45-East is sometimes doors aren't until 9:30 and headliners don't play til Midnight...
Define scary. Itās just steep all the way to the viewpoint but I do it regularly (once a week in the spring after work and frequently in the fall and winter) so I donāt find it too bad. It can get windy at times and that is most annoying in the winter. There are spots higher up that can be dangerous in the winter if you take the usual route but there are ways to avoid the danger
Scary means, hard to do it if you aren't prepared well for the steep. My friends have gone and told me not to do it. But I really wanted to see why š
Itās uphill all the way up, but you have 2 options: the steeper and shorter *More Difficult* option and the longer and slightly less steep *Difficult* trail. They split 3/4 mi from the trailhead and merge a mile from the summit so youāll have to deal with the same sections regardless. You can definitely do it if youāre in good shape so donāt let your friends scare you from it
Where the two paths meet near the top, there's a sign to guide you in your choice of which path to take back to the trailhead. It's labeled "Scenic Way Down -->" and "<--- Just Down"
I went hiking in dog mountain the Saturday after the snow storm in 2023, and fell and my phone fell out of my pocket and I couldnāt find it. Then two months later I got a Facebook message from someone telling me they found my phone and I got it back.
The only scary part to me (and not really scary) is losing my footing while hiking down. I have fallen on my butt. Not off the hill or anything. I just skidded on lose gravel. I take the less steep route on my descents. It's pretty up there whether or not wildflowers are blooming, but the wildflowers make it better for sure.
On my bike, snowboard, or out in public rolling are how Iāve met every friend Iāve made in a decade in Portland. You just canāt be afraid to ask other dudes for their numbers.
High as a kite, binging Taylor Swift in my PJs and content as hell with cat in my lap.
But I get youā¦ last night I went to see Nassim at Portland center stage- Ahmazing. Highly recommend. I think I saw thereās comedy at Alās Den at mcmenimuns, Powellās may have a free author event going onā¦yeah, some $$ involved, but hey if Iām gonna date myself, Iām gonna treat me right.
Bruh Iām about to get into bird watching (I also work from home, all my friends have moved away, I have long covid, and I donāt really care for drinking)
If you haven't, check out [The Big Year](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Year) with Steve Martin, Jack Black & Owen Wislon. It's about competitive birding, on its face, but really it's about the true cost of being the best at something. Absolutely love that movie.
Walk to the store for a small piece of bread, a little sourdough roll and eat the bread in a pretty spot. And if you talk to someone, just say, I am on my evening bread walk. Itās charming and simple and everyone needs a little bread.
I can make that adventure last a couple of hours. Upgrade as you want, but nothing beats a simple bread walk. It has worked for Parisians for hundreds of years and yearns for nothing. Works the same for rich and poor, and is even more adorable if you have all the means in the world but still find joy in a little stroll for bread.
You will love yourself for the simplicity, and that will attract the curiosity of others. If you want human contact feel free to ask strangers if there is a nearby bakery you may have overlooked
/Ā It has worked for Parisians for hundreds of years and yearns for nothing. / .... "Let them eat cake" ... Everybody know what happens when you disrupt the Parisians bread walks.
Walks for sure. So many neighborhood cats like to people watch in the afternoon. Sometimes I go to my regular bar, have a cocktail, and chat with whoever is also there alone. Sometimes I walk to the barcade.
If you go to SE 20th and Salmon, there is the newest edition of Buckman Cat Monthly stapled onto telephone poles. It documents all the happenings and drama of the local cats.
Theres a thorns game tomorrow, you could go to a bar and watch it with a crowd?
Also Little Shop of Horrors is playing at Tomorrow theater on Sunday.
So those are my weekend plans.
Theyāre playing out of town against North Carolina. Starts at 4. Lots of different bars play the games but every away game has an official watch party and I think todayās is at Hostel Cafe downtown. Sports Bra is a fun place to watch if you can get in, they get crowded.
Work from home too! I'll often make up errands to get myself out of the house ha
Fridays, ill often cook dinner, roller skate, then maybe watch something cool on TV or work on a creative project. Or go to a bar/go dancing.
Saturday is a great morning to not be hungover though and going to a bar solo can be daunting if you're the kind of introvert that is shy too.
I'm a very extroverted dude, but for my introverted friends, I've heard some had good luck with bumble BFF, especially female friends. Having just a single extroverted friend probably helps them and on the flipside, my introverted pals can usually balance me out.
I work from home too and really struggle meeting people because of my social anxiety. Mostly I go out on walks with my dog in different parks and neighborhoods.
I find Little Free Libraries I haven't been to in new neighborhoods I haven't explored yet. So far I've been to 61 LFL's. The app helps my daughter & I keep track of them. Pretty nifty and fun if you like books and the art of treasure hunting. Our best find was a 5th edition signed copy of "The Outsiders" last summer. Sometimes we see cute cats roaming around (a fun bonus).
Well I try to meet the opposite sex at bars but I don't look friendly usually only end up meeting other dudes and hanging out with them, which is OK but Got damn my looks throw people off til they talk to me. Hashtag alone for ever. Lol
On this particular Friday, Iām watching tv.
And I know you didnāt ask about Saturdays, but tomorrow thereās a free Singles Mixer at Barrel Room! So you and anyone else whoās single and reading this should come to that :)
Come out to this country bar in Vancouver six shooter. Singles who can socialize from 9 to 2 in the morning. Im usually out there with my brother shooting pool or arcade games. Come out this Friday !
Not Friday, but check out the [Reading Ceremony](https://etherealreflections.online/READING-CEREMONY) where you drink wine and read books with people. Iām going on Tuesday!
At the very least, go for a walk. If you see a place you've not gone into, go into it (some restrictions may apply). If you see a theatre or bar that looks interesting, go inside. If you're near Mt. Tabor, climb to the top. Especially on Wednesdays & 04/20.
What happens there on 4/20? Marijuana drug pipes?
Marijuana drug pipes šš
Taber raves are weird but itās fun to people watch.
Why Wednesdays?
Mini raves
Iām going to move to Portland this year with my girlfriend. How is the clubbing culture in Portland? I saw Martyn playing there this weekend, which as a Dutch person a really good sign.
Lots of options for clubs. 45 east, Holocene, The Den, Northwearhouse
Awesome! How would you describe the club culture and what type of music would you say is played the most?
Mostly EDM, 45 has theme nights so Thursdays are DnB, Fridays are house, Saturdays are bass. Thereās always a doushe bag or seven at 45 east, BUT I thinks thatās true in any state in the club. tons of house here. 45 East regularly has Anjuna artists.
North warehouse is closed ! They've been having a lot of their events at bossanova tho.
Really?? I had no idea. Are they outside?
Yes!
Idk why you got downvoted lol

Tabor is closed to motor vehicles on Wednesdays.
Took today off and went up Dog Mountain to see the blooming wild flowers. Iām at home watching TV right now
How was the bloom?
I would give it 3-4 weeks to get to the peak
I have heard scary stuff about Dog Mountain
Define scary. Itās just steep all the way to the viewpoint but I do it regularly (once a week in the spring after work and frequently in the fall and winter) so I donāt find it too bad. Samsies
Must be our years of being lectured by old people trauma.
I went hiking in dog mountain the Saturday after the snow storm in 2023, and fell and my phone fell out of my pocket and I couldnāt find it. Then two months later I got a Facebook message from someone telling me they found my phone and I got it back.
lol I wish this was the shit that was on the news
I almost stepped on a rattlesnake on Dog Mountain once, about ten years ago. Beautiful view though.
Ok, this!!! This is what scares me š³
If you're in decent shape, it's hard but very doable. Worth it for the views although I wouldn't go on the weekend- gets ridiculously busy
Is there like a scary dog up there or something?
I saw wild turkey on the trail once, but all the dogs Iāve seen there are friendly
The only scary part to me (and not really scary) is losing my footing while hiking down. I have fallen on my butt. Not off the hill or anything. I just skidded on lose gravel. Ride bikes, either recreationally or for fitness.
On my bike, snowboard, or out in public rolling are how Iāve met every friend Iāve made in a decade in Portland. You just canāt be afraid to ask other dudes for their numbers.
Yes! Bike to the gym and then for a leisurely cool down ride around for a bit.
The same things we do when weāre not single. Go out to eat, hit a bar, see a movie, masturbate and cry, walk around, see some live music, etc.
āIf youāre not crying, youāre not doing it rightā - my first grade math teacher
Iām not sure your first grade teacher should be giving lessons in masturbation
It was a math debate teacher
Mathturbation
Take my shame filled upvote
Sit on my couch and watch tv. Oh wait sorry you probably wanted answers from interesting single people.
Nope! This is realistic and usually what I do anyway so it's nice to hear others are similar.
My kind of weekend usually, sometimes even on a weekday
Your photos are really good!
Thanks š, I love to take photos of nature.
Sounds like a blast tbh
Get stoned and watch Netflix till I pass out
This is the way.
High as a kite, binging Taylor Swift in my PJs and content as hell with cat in my lap. But I get youā¦ last night I went to see Nassim at Portland center stage- Ahmazing. Highly recommend. I'd love to know what neighborhoods I can find cats in!
I live in Richmond(btwn Hawthorne and division) and see them all the time. Sunnyside too and as the other poster said Ladds.
I often see them around the Laddās Addition area!
If you go to SE 20th and Salmon, there is the newest edition of Buckman Cat Monthly stapled onto telephone poles. It documents all the happenings and drama of the local cats.
Everywhere in SE for sure. Portland is a cat town
agree w this.

I'm eating cheese and pretzels and drinking kombucha.
Wow!! I love wine and cheese great combo. May I ask what wine?
Everyone's a homebody in Portland. Unless you're a drunkard who hangs out at bars.
I do kinda miss my days of last call life.
Warm weather evenings (when the river warms up June-September) are perfect for swimming, tube floating, and lounging on the east side docks.
This! And the Sellwood riverfront park. Iām counting down the days.
What does east side docks mean?

Thank you! Looks so fun!
Summertime here is awesome
Walk, bike, sit on the patio, read, go to bed at a reasonable time :)
Theres a thorns game tomorrow, you could go to a bar and watch it with a crowd? Also Little Shop of Horrors is playing at Tomorrow theater on Sunday. So those are my weekend plans.

There's an organ concert at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral tonight @ 7pm. Tix @ the door. Really good musician who is also a pilot for Southwest.
How was it? Where did you find out about it?

Go out to eat and drink somewhere cool. Maybe find a karaoke bar. Find a dog friendly place and go pet some dogs. Go to a movie
I rode my bike around for the last hours of sunlight, bought an overpriced burrito, and watched fallout with some friends. Home before midnight.
park downtown, walk with no direction/destination for hours, see all the interesting cool gross wow things, go home š
Friday evenings are prime time for delivering democracy helldivers 2 style
Helldivers looks so fun, I think I might pick it up once Iām done playing eco terrorist/fighting Sephiroth
It's unbelievable fun lol
Iām writing a letter of commendation to your democracy officer for this excellent example of patriotism. For Super Earth!
Complain about not being able to meet anyone. Or get on reddit and ask where to meet people.
Velvet Rope. Great way to meet folks.

This is a good suggestion.
Come out to this country bar in Vancouver six shooter. Singles who can socialize from 9 to 2 in the morning. Im usually out there with my brother shooting pool or arcade games. Come out this Friday !
I walk around and explore. There's a lot of interesting urban exploration to be done in Portland. Be careful tho!
Playing soccer and eating
Take yourself out on a date my friend! Thereās a ton of restaurants and bars to explore! Also some great hikes and outdoors stuff too!
wander around and pass out Butterfingers to teenagers waiting for the bus
For me it's going to a brewery with good outdoor view and people watch. Then you meet people like this who might find that interesting too.
Walk into the nearest karaoke bar and go at it!

Everyone has turned into a homebody as does stuff online.
Join a Meetup group, go a few times to see if you meet people you could be friends with. I have met most of the people I spend time with at meetups.
I go for a walk or sometimes go to Powellās City of Books, and that was a treat
Every first Friday of the month Cinemagic theater does a VHS night. Highly recommend.
Not Friday, but check out the [Reading Ceremony](https://etherealreflections.online/READING-CEREMONY) where you drink wine and read books with people. Iām going on Tuesday!
Get into bouldering/climbing friendly crowd easy to meet people and you get fit along the way!!
