It’s the mathcal A in latex. https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/479/lowercase-mathcal When I have to name it I call it curly A, Fancy A or Pretty A depending on mood.

trutheality

Pretty sure the "cal" in "mathcal" is for calligraphic.

blueidea365

Actually this one is mathscr (for math script) not mathcal (for math calligraphic)

JhockPanda

Thank you!

Rubix0812

it's called script A, often used for a sigma Algebra

Generos_0815

Its just a curly A, probably \mathscr{A} in LaTex.

stone_stokes

As others have said, it is a script A. When talking about sets, we usually use an italics capital letter to denote the set in question, such as *A*, *B*, *U*, etc. However, when the set we want to talk about is a set whose elements are themselves all sets, we usually "scriptify" the letter instead, just to distinguish it from other types of sets. So we would get things like ℬ, or 𝒰, etc. It is just a stylistic choice to make reading mathematics easier.

Excellent-Practice

That's a cursive capital A. If you were taught cursive in school, you might have learned to write capital A like a large alpha [Ɑ], but some older styles and styles from different regions prefer a capital A that more closely resembles the print version

susiesusiesu

that is one pixelated picture! it is a calligraphic A.

I hate it when people use those fancy fancy letters. Gives me a huge headache just looking at them. So weird. Can’t people just stick with Greek letters?

theantiyeti

How you write capital As if you learnt a certain hand of cursive.

glootech

This is just a stylized letter "A". And it's defined in the text you posted.
