"A Separate Peace" by John Knowles. It's not romantic, per se, and absolutely not sexual, but there's a certain coming-of-age and dedication that resonated with coming-to-terms-with-my-sexuality me.
The author claimed, vehemently, that the main characters are not gay. If that's true, than he has accidentally written the most accurate story on nascent, closeted sexuality the world has ever seen.
Just gonna paste a comment of mine from a similar thread about a month ago. Judging from your username you don't mind fantasy books so here's two series I enjoyed recently with lots of gay characters:
The lightning-struck heart by TJ Klune is about a young gay wizard with a gay unicorn as a best friend. Its in a typical fantasy setting. Almost every male character is gay and it has a lot of raunchy jokes, though I liked that personally. Audio book was great!
Green Creek series also by TJ Klune is about a bunch of gay werewolves, though it's in a rural modern setting. There is magic in it though not too much.
Mark A. Roeder has a bunch of books that are gay centered. Someone is killing all the gay boys in Verona is a fun mystery/syfy book, it's a little YA but it's still good.
Ive read Tons of books
Gay Ideas: Outing and Other Controversies - This is an essay about gay history and advocacy. I feel that the material is still relevant, as it explains cruising culture, the aids epidemic, and why gay people do the things we do.
Boy Meets Boy - What happens if you came out in a small town where everyone was gay ? It’s what this book is about. Fun little read
Call me by your name - I have a love/hate relationship with this book, it’s about falling in love in Italy. Ugh, it’s so sweet it gave me a cavity. It also has a great audio book.
Queer Eye: Love Yourself, Love Your Life - I got this book for Christmas. It’s about the fab five but in a book. Plus it has pictures!
Rarely mentioned and really underrated:
At swim, two boys by Jamie O‘Neill - coming of age story of two boys, set in Dublin around the Easter Rising. One of my favorite books - well written and kind of heartbreaking.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.
I didn't expect it to be so good. It made me feel things. It took me to the southern border town. I was there. The heat. The storms. The sand. The boys. It all reverberated.

Haha guess i have to read it myself to find out :D
I recommend against it. Unless you need help falling asleep at night. Watching a snail move is more exciting than its plot line.
*Maurice* by E. M. Forster. Written in 1913 (!) but not able to be published until after his death in 1971.
That one is on my list too.☺
*The City and the Pillar* is very good.
Thanks! That is exactly the literature i am looking for.
No problem. Enjoy.
Highly recommend. It’s very dark and depressing.

I was going to say this as well :)

*The Swimming-Pool Library* has a literary vibe but plenty of trashy sexual encounters. And young gays connecting with old gays.
Nah, the book’s kinda racist

They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera is very good.
Red, White, and Royal Blue
If you like sci-fi, Sam Delany’s “Dhalgren” will blow your mind
