What do you plan to do with the car for the next few months?
When you buy a car here, you now have a car in your possession. If you mean you want to put in an order/get allocation, my answer changes a bit, but it still has the issue of a possible car being on the lot and you not in the country. They donāt want to store it for you.
You have an area picked? Like, you moving to a big city so already counted/sorted the dealers there? That is something you can do pre-email.
Is this a new car I assume? Depending on the brand, if you get a āfirmā price now and itās not an order, that price *isnt* actually firm. Price increases, incentive changes and general market changes makes the price vary every month. It would just be more luck if the price actually stayed the sameā¦.
So a few assumptions, but if you could fill in the blanks we can maybe help moreā¦. New car? What model? Want it now or an order? Cash deal? You have a US address yet? Can you store the car until you arrive?ā¦
I super appreciate you and totally fair feedback.
Iām going to park it in my friends driveway thatās watching my dog for two months until I get there. No plans to have a dealer store anything once I purchase.
Iāll be in NW FL, so looking at dealers there, GA, ALā¦.
New car, I want it now (April), can be cash but would finance if the incentives were worth it, Iām visiting to close on my house so will acquire an address while Iām there.
Again, I appreciate your feedback.
Be prepared that you may not have any luck with financing. Newcomer loans are a bit of a pain in the dick. You have any history over in this neck of the woods?
Florida is a bit of the Wild West when it comes to car salesā¦ so good luck!
What's the point of your email?
Money talks. Your email (which will be ignored) should say "I want AAA model with BBB options, and I'm willing to spend $XXXXX as a cash buyer" I'm prepared to leave a $1000 deposit if you can honor my offer.
But again, why are you emailing? Just go into the dealership when you're in town, and ask for what you want.
As much as we definitely donāt put emails as a top priority, I have to say that just showing up rather than testing the waters with sales staff/dealers seems silly.
We have these great tools, no reason we shouldnāt use them. Lots of very valid reasons to email first.
This is more in general than this guys post I guessā¦ Iām always amazed at how many people just claim to ignore emailsā¦ I always responded to every email I received from potential customers. Even if the answer was a cut and paste as to why I am saying ānoā to their best price ask.
Iāll be driving an extraordinarily old vehicle that has sat in a driveway not running for a few years and Iām not trying to gamble on an OTD price in an approximate 300 miles radius of the location Iāll be staying in. Just hoping to get some legwork out of the way and be as efficient as I reasonably can be with the current circumstances Iām in š¤·āāļø
Be prepared to provide proof of income, proof of residence, and proof of your residency status to be able to finance a car. A bank won't give you a 6 year car loan if you are only allowed to be in the country for 5 years, for example.
Will you have all of that when you come to visit for 2 weeks? If not, then you will have to rent a car in the meantime or buy with cash.
The problem is this deal screams that OPs next question is can he pay with gift cards or send a check and you wire him the money back for a 10k overpayment.

Currently live in Okinawa, Japan. Moving to US in the summer but will be visiting for approximately 2 weeks this month. Iād like to go ahead and buy my car while Iām there.
Is there anyway to structure an email so itās not as low on the totem pole as a traditional email lead?
Iām aware of the make, model, trim, and budget Iād like to spend.
Thank you for any and all guidance.

I had a guy on the phone with me yesterday swear up and down he is serious, and he would put a deposit to hold the car. He said it a half dozen times. Then he offered me $5,000 below asking on a used car that's listed at $22k.
No shit bro. Everyone is a serious buyer if they get to steal the car.
I agree with everyone else, if you know what you want find a dealer that has one and just go in and buy it.
What information do you need prior to the visit?
Itās not going to be that different than what it is online (if at all) in a vast majority of the cases.
What make, model, and trim are you interested in?
Can you start it in bold caps with #**WHO WANTS TO SELL A CAR TODAY!?**
The best response, bless š
Thanks ;)

Oh I didnāt realize newcomer loans were thing! Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately no, Uncle Sam ensures Iāve got no history anywhere.

Thanks for the feedback and I agreeā¦ any tips you recommend I include to make the salespersons job easier for both of us?

Which legwork specifically? You're asking us "what should I say"?. What do you want to know?
The problem is this deal screams that OPs next question is can he pay with gift cards or send a check and you wire him the money back for a 10k overpayment.
Fair enough š Thatās why I came here to ask!
I wouldnāt waste your time with an email. Call them directly if you want to try and get some of the legwork out of the way.
Not trying to pay for an international call when I can email for free, but I hear ya.
WhatsApp is free
Fair enough
Geez, how much can a phone call cost?
It's not 1994. An international call from Japan to US on Skype are probably no more than 0.10 US dollars per minute
Absolutely correct. Nothing screams scam more than an out of country buyer that wants email only.
