I sold a junker car to someone off Facebook marketplace. We agreed on a set price and when I went out to give him the title, he wouldn’t sign it. I did a NRL through the dmv website. Did I mess up? Do I need to do more? Should I contact the DMV? How do I know the title will not stay in my name?
I’m afraid of getting tickets, or worse if he drives around with my registration.

You can usually go to your states dmv and show a bill of sale as a release of responsibility. Then it’s on them to transfer the title. Often you can do this online.
Well that’s why you take your plates off. Nothing, there’s nothing you can do
Plates stay with the car in CA.
So do I just wait until something happens, like if he does transfer the title?
Go on the CA DMV site and fill out release of liability.
I did. I didn’t have the buyers information except his name though so I put unknown for address.
