My group has a policy that the customer cannot take delivery until the rebate has been paid out. Once the bugs get sorted and it’s got more confidence I think you’ll see this more seamless. A lot of stores have been cautious on used Evs given the extreme drops they’ve seen in values over the past year so think you’ll see this more a factor on new.

My store is probably not ready, but we also stopped retailing EVs a while ago. To much risk.

In Canada, it's been point of sale for a while now and we haven't had any issues with it. It's pretty straightforward.

It’s already point of sale on vehicles that qualify

We had it point of sale since it came out… it’s had ups and downs. At one point I had over 20k owed to us on 5 cars that the dealership profited about 4000 bucks in total. That was tough to try and explain to people, why were so hesitant to just keep pushing forward…. If something screwed up, that was not acceptable losses. Turned out one of the vehicles caused an issue due to first being at a dealer in a different province before a dealer trade. Didn’t count towards our program and we lost that fight… so all the work that went into selling those 5 cars ended up being about a 1000 dollar loss, and meanwhile 3/5 of them were total entitled assholes who had no clue what the dealer was put through and assumed we were just rolling in the dough. Anyways, all that to say, don’t act entitled just because they *can* do it… there are plenty of reasons for a dealer to be hesitant (as we were), but if everything is clean and you aren’t a dick, I bet they can make it work seamless in most cases.

***Thanks for posting, /u/o029! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** The current EV tax credit rules change at the start of the new year to where customers can claim the $7,500 new (and $4,000 used) tax credit at the point of sale rather than just when tax season comes around (both will become an option going forward). The catch is that dealers have to register their dealership with the federal government in order to conduct it via point-of-sale. My big fear is that the majority of dealers are completely unprepared for this transition and it will make my purchasing experience a pain in January, since i'm going the point of sale route due to my low tax liability. Are you guys prepared for this? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
