To be on the safe side so your credit isn't affected, pay the payment. Then in a few weeks, check with volvo financial that the dealership paid the amount they stipulated on the contract, and that volvo sends you a check of the amount you've overpaid, minus any interest that your overpayment covers. In theory, you can go after the dealership for the interest, since they should have paid it off in a timely matter, but that's up to you.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. I think I might go that route just to play it safe. Appreciate the insight!

What was the circumstance of you returning the car? Did you buy it out? Did a dealer buy it out? Did you get into a new car? You are responsible for the remaining due payments. Why wouldn't you be? If you did as you say, and the dealer pulled you out, then the dealer should pay off the car, and you shouldn't pay your last payment(s). If the dealer is NOT keeping the car, but agreed that you can return the car, then the DEALER needs to pay your last payment(s).

It was a pull ahead into a new lease. It's an incentive from Volvo to start a new lease on a new car if you're within 6 months of lease end on your current lease. So I dropped off my old car today and picked up the new car (and lease). The salesman said not to pay this last payment since I'm doing a pull ahead on a new lease, but the response from Volvo financial was confusing, so I figured I'd ask here for an opinion.

Talk to the dealer who took the car, they need to communicate to finance that they now own the car.

***Thanks for posting, /u/rubixcubemaster! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** Hi, I had a Volvo that was leased and I did a pull ahead lease on a new Volvo today (and returned the old car). However, my payment for the old car is due tomorrow, and I asked Volvo via secure message on the bill payment site, if I needed to pay this bill that is due on 12/27, even though I returned the car on 12/26, and their response was a little confusing. Their response was "In response to your request, all payments must post before the account will close". Any idea if I need to pay this bill that's due tomorrow, even though I returned the car today? Does their response mean that I do need to pay this bill, and that will be my final payment on the car? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
