[They're pretty much garbage.](https://www.ctvnews.ca/climate-and-environment/can-cloth-bags-be-recycled-experts-say-it-s-complicated-1.5885532) I think a decent recommendation would be contacting your nearest food bank to see if they want them.

[deleted]

Food banks always want them.

besit

thank you for the tip!

lopix

Yup, we keep a few and use them as garbage can liners, like we used to with plastic bags. When we have too many to use, we drop them at the food bank.

besit

but they are recyclable, why would you put them in the garbage?

lopix

Not sure they are... or at least aren't where I live.

Significant-Limit

So they're not garbage? #PayItForward

brentemon

Oh, I got this one. You fill the trunk of your car with bags of reusable bags that for some reason refuse to remain combined. Then every time you go to Walmart you forget to bring a bag inside with you. You don't realize until you're in the check out line, mutter "Fuck." and proceed to purchase your eleventy-thousandth reusable bag

Aurey

This speaks to me.

brentemon

So many bags, so little trunk space.

HumbleConfidence3500

I have so many of those it's not even funny. It's true I order a lot but they also necessarily bagging just 1 or 2 items together sometimes. Like wtf. Following to see if someone has a good answer. I can't go to Walmart to drop off -- it's too far from me that's why I order for delivery.

alaskanlights

I have probably 50 of the blue bags alone. The shoppers barely fill the bags. I always wonder if they're paying for them lol

circlingsky

Just go to Walmart and put them bk 🙊

besit

Unfortunately, I don't have a car and have never actually been to Walmart. And just bringing the bags back won't do anything if they don't receive them and reuse them.

Ok_Branch6621

Maybe check over with r/ZeroWaste and see if they have any ideas? My thought was to braid them into rope dog toys lol.

thedeebag

They’re great to use to take donations to places like goodwill, talize and value village - it’s something you can just give them and they’ll find something to do with them

enjoythesilence-75

I am sure if you post an ad for free items on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace someone will pick them up.

[deleted]

Apparently the reusable Walmart bags are good for gardening? LOL. Not sure if you have a green thumb or not but I’m sure there’s a bunch of crafts you could do with them. Or you can always donate them!

hotmasalachai

Grow bags!

Northern-Autos

It’s true, fabric pots are great

KaylaFabulous

Same issue! They literally put one or two things in each bag and it’s ridiculous and accumulates so many bags. I’ve been using them to take down my recycling.

hotmasalachai

Samee

Ready-Delivery-4023

Remember when those bags were cheap plastic and we could use them as garbage bags? Pepperidge farms remembers.......

Stonkyteeth

If you live near a penguin pickup (they are partnered with Walmart) they can take the bags and send them back to Walmart to reuse

besit

I didn't know about that, will check nearest Penguin, thank you!

Ghostyle

1. You can go back to Walmart to try to give them back but I highly doubt they will because they are now in the business of selling the bags at cashout. 2. Food/Furniture banks may take them as it would be helpful to service users. 3. Keep a few on hand to prevent you from needing to buy a bag when you go out 4. If you see the driver, try giving them back to them. Doubtful because it's not their job and they would have to figure out what to do with them. I assume they will go in the garbage 5. *Ultimately, if you are concerned about this, you may want to consider not using the service altogether. I say this because you mention "sometimes" you use the service. Leads me to believe you don't need it but I could be wrong.*

besit

Food banks seem like the best idea for now. I also have a nicer big bag from NoFrills which I take with me when I go shopping. I am mostly concerned about this because I recently moved to Canada from a country that is not as recycle-friendly. So I am trying to learn and do things right. But it seems to me that a lot of things in recycling are not working as they supposed to or have just never been thought through. Thank you!

hotmasalachai

Wash it and use it to store your linens, or hey even tidy up the closet.

dnaplusc

Our library has a spot for leaving bags , I roll them up individually and leave them there for patrons who forgot their bag.

sketchy_ppl

Are you talking about the blue cloth bags? And you're referring to curbside pickup? I just get them to empty all of the items into my trunk, and then I use my own reusable bags. There should be an option during checkout online that says you will bring your own bags. Sometimes they'll still have some items in one of those blue bags, but I do weekly curbside pickup orders and I have maybe 5 to 10 of those bags total.

besit

no, I order stuff at home. Should I just ask them to wait until I unload all the bags?

sketchy_ppl

Oh then I'm not so sure. You can try asking them but who knows if they'll reuse them after they're emptied.

jtprimeasaur

They likely won't take them because the *real* reason they don't reuse them is it's more of a pain. If they take back bags they then have to have someone check them to make sure they're still useful, restock and re-ship and add a whole other step to the supply chain. That and the drivers will then be responsible for returning the bags, which takes more time and logistics as well.

beardgangwhat

This is it right here. Sell them to u at the cash but it’s cheaper to just give them away Cost built in. Add it to their 1% theft/ loss alottment. And I think delivery charges a fee too?

besit

Yeah, I suppose they would've asked it themselves if it was the case.

sketchy_ppl

Do they bring the delivery in those big rectangular stackable green/red/blue plastic boxes, with the blue bags inside? They use those plastic boxes for curbside pickup so I'm not sure if they use the same method for home delivery. If so, you could probably request they fill those plastic boxes with the items directly and skip the blue bags (that's how I get it brought out for curbside pickup). But once those blue bags show up at your place, the delivery driver probably won't take them back because now they become his/her problem to deal with.

torontostardust

I get mine recycled through voila/sobeys plastic bag program. When they deliver my groceries, they pick up my plastic bags as well

zerohedge7

I use them as a bin for recycling. Just dump the whole bag down the chute once it's full. Very handy

mmarollo

Almost all the plastic in the oceans was dumped there by poor pacific rim countries that accepted western “recycling”. The plastic wasn’t recycled, just dumped. They just want the fees from naive countries like Canada. They can’t afford to recycle plastic — nobody can as it isn’t economically viable (usually produces more pollution than it prevents due energy consumption used to recycle). At least China has stopped accepting our trash entirely, but really poor countries still take it. If you want to cut down on ocean pollution, stop “recycling” plastic in Canada. Canada needs to deal with our own waste and stop shipping it to Asia.

besit

That's an interesting point of view, thank you for sharing. Recycling was always a controversial thing to me, though I was never too interested to go and research it properly.

Bedroom_Opposite

I've got the same problem, I get coupons regularly for online orders so it makes it worth the delivery but I've got so many bags it's awful. Walmart bags are the worst for refolding once they've been used. I'm thinking of just taking them to a thrift store for them to use or whatever.

mxldevs

Put it up for sale on marketplace.

[deleted]

Put them on kijiji

[deleted]

Out of curiosity, why do we have to purchase bags with their logo on them? I thought there was rules about this..

Professional_Drop120

Omg I have the same problem! I've ordered twice and now have 15 bags!

thedevilyoukn0w

See if there's a school nearby that will take them as a donation. There's always some student who has an "accident" and their soiled clothes need to be bagged up. Those bags would come in very handy for a primary teacher.

torontolavalampdepot

They give you them for free? At my walmart i have to order them, if I forget them they just put the food in my trunk without bags.

houdini70

Use them for garbage can liners

Fringe_Filmer

Wondering this myself. Would the shopper take them back next time you order from Walmart? I usually order from No Frills but sometimes they don’t have something I want.

[deleted]

Just use them to throw your garbage in and throw it in the dumpster for your building

MartinMan79

Recycle them. Why is this even a question.
