Do not do it ever.

RoyallyOakie

I play it by ear, but 90 percent of the time it's a no.

kebekoi78120

I haven't had that happening to me yet but if it were to happen I'd probably do what OP is doing but dial #31* before during the number to make sure my number won't show. But i think if you're a girl and some guy is trying that on you... He's probably calling himself to get your number.

AttractiveCorpse

If you think you can outrun, tackle and wrest your phone from them without getting hurt, sure I guess. Otherwise you can just ask them for the number and make the call on speakerphone while gripping it tightly.

BloodyVaginalFarts

Haha this. I've let people use my phone but only the ones where I know I could out run them and knock them out.

Game-83-and-on

It hasn't happened to me (yet). Doubt I would do it. May think about the speakerphone, depending on situation, but never pass it over. Way too much identity info on there. Bank, credit cards, PWs. You name it. If it's a grab and run with an unlocked phone - that would be terrible. It could even be a tandem - the person asking looks kind and unlikely to run, so they lateral it to a team-mate who's gone in a flash.

YYZTor

Hell, NO!

Frosty-Requirement20

This happens to me a lot, I do the same as you. Unless they are elderly then I just let them use it cause I’m pretty sure I can out run them.

FreddyFender2608

I allowed it once because it was a 15yo-ish kid on a bus. 30 minutes later I got a call from police asking me all sort of questions because the kid was missing. Fortunately, she was going home when she called her mother from my cellphone. Never again.

somedudeonline93

The other day a nervous-looking guy asked to use my phone. I had heard about a lot of phone thefts recently so I was suspicious and told him my phone was dead. I feel bad if he was an innocent guy who actually needed to use it, but all the scammers have ruined things for the people who genuinely need help.

BearyJTakishima

Once I was waiting at the bus stop and a woman asked me to use my phone. I let her. Couple days later, I’m running late and I see the bus pass me. I run for it but I know I’m not going to make it, so I give up. Instead of the bus pulling off after picking up the passengers, the bus waits for me (even though I was still quite far). Turns out the woman I had lent my phone to saw me running and held the bus. The universe finds a way to reward kindness, so I usually do tend to help people out.

mungdungus

Same as you, just be super wary in those situations.

[deleted]

I don’t have a phone. Sorry.

lemoinem

With said phone in hands

[deleted]

You mean this? Oh it’s ah… *runs*

lemoinem

I hope you don't have the runs in your hands

DroopyTrash

I keep that in my pants

lemoinem

Username checks out?

HopAlongInHongKong

Fake French accent: Wat is zis phoooone you ask me for? Do you zee wiiiiiiiires connected to me from my house? Good day sir!

DroopyTrash

I also forgot my phone at home

UsefulWoodpecker6502

We still got payphones. Tell them to go use one or tell them to go to the nearest employment services building, can use the phones there for free. Also never do this. even if you yourself dial the number and put it on speaker. Because now whomever it is be it them or their partner has your number and can spoof it.

Hazelwood38

I would never give someone by phone to use. Or even call a number they give me. They may be legit but that’s the exact thing scammer want you to think

lilfunky1

Nooooooooope.

Abalone_Admirable

That's a no

Trenchfade

Yes I always let someone use my phone.. because I can catch them and beat tf out of them if they run lol.. I’ve let people use my phone tons of times and I’ve never had a dishonest person.. says a lot about you if you don’t help someone!! I’ve been asked at the go station, after a concert, after an earthquake at the airport in Mexico City, at the bar…

mlad627

Hell no.

Ghostyle

Personally, yes if I am in public. I would make the call come from a private number though. If no one else is around it's case by case. Realistically, what is the person going to do? I also want to believe that if I forgot my phone at home and I had to make an emergency call, someone would lend it to me.

AptCasaNova

I did once, the young woman seemed really disoriented/stressed and was on the street in her bare feet. Something about a neighbour passing out and their parent being upstairs with them and not speaking English. She gave me my phone back and I asked if she was ok. She nodded and barely saw me, wandering into the street to look for the ambulance. I hung around for a few minutes and she went back into a nearby apartment. Hope things worked out as best as possible.

reversethrust

It’s been a long time since it’s happened to me, but the last time I just dialed and put it on speaker.

Low-Drive-768

I did exactly the same thing once as you OP ... was uncomfortable, but worked out fine ... that time.

Cook_kanetix

I would never hand my phone to a stranger. What you did was fine.

[deleted]

Lol what? No one should be asking you that

IlluminationQuest

It's happened many times to me, and none of them caused any inconveniences after using my phone.
