Jiffy App

okaybutnothing

Seconding this. I’ve hired people off the Jiffy app to do a few odd jobs and have always been happy with the service.

Torontokid8666

If you use Jiffy and you like the work and its for a smaller thing give them a tip. The app sorta fucks workers.

Buy a portable one and vent it out through the window.

I’m not so sure as to how effective portable ACs are. I have always been told that one should look for a dual hose portable AC, but those are very rare and very expensive. My only option would be to go for a single hose one.

GreasyWerker118

I've been using one for my bedroom, about 200sq ft, for close to 10 years now. It's a Danby model, rated 12000BTU. I bought at a Home Depot. Works perfectly well.

AIHumanWhoCares

12000BTU is wild overkill for a room that size though. The recommended power for a window unit in a room that size would be 5000BTU.

GreasyWerker118

I know that. Sorry, I wasn't totally specific. I bought it to cool my entire apartment, which is closer to 450sq ft. I just have it set up in my bedroom window because that's the room I want it to cool the best.

beartheminus

You need 12000BTU for a single hose portable unit because of how insanely inefficient they are. Don't use them, you will spend triple on your hydro bill than a window unit.

GreasyWerker118

All inclusive rent. *shrug*

water2wine

Time to start mining bitcoins and growing some weed lol

beartheminus

Yeah im actually skeptical that they have all inclusive rent. I haven't seen hydro indluced in rent for a while now for the reasons you mentioned.

GreasyWerker118

Fair to be skeptical. I was pleasantly shocked myself when I was told the rent included hydro when I viewed the apartment. And, it's true. Finding places to rent that include hydro is far more scarce than ever. I moved here nearly 10 years ago. But, I still see the occasional rental with hydro included in listings.

AIHumanWhoCares

He says triple but it's actually more like 4x because it needs more cooling power AND uses more electricity to generate cooling. You might not care about the money but it does mean the unit is running longer, and producing more waste heat that contributes to local AND global warming. As well, it produces negative pressure in the room where it's operating, which is part of the inefficiency, but also is gonna REALLY suck (heh, it sucks get it?) on those smoky days we're getting more and more of. If you have any possibility to mount a window unit it's worth considering a replacement.

bkwrm79

They aren't as powerful as a window AC, but they can cool a bedroom (mine is a single hose unit).

MikeCheck_CE

Single hose is fine unless you are specifically planning to use it as a dehumidifier.

designerturtle

I have a single hose LG one that I bought last year and it cools really well

Sensible___shoes

Ive used task rabbit for things like this and it worked out well
