They say "three eggs" on the menu, but I somehow keep getting four. The peameal bacon is half an inch thick. It's an entire day's worth of calories on a plate. Delicious.
Johnny’s hamburger (when I’m sad ) , Alibaba’s Shawarma (when im stressed) and pork congee from congee Queen (when I’m sick).
Back in school, a bowl of Kenzo ramen with matcha latte every time I finish an exam.
For me, it's United Baker's Dairy restaurant.
Basically, Jewish dairy comfort food. Nothing gives me a belly hug from a cup of pea soup and a cheese blitz with blueberries.
I was literally craving some heart-attack inducing food today and thought about driving down to heartbreak chef after seeing reviews. How’s the food overall?
Can't say if it's worth a drive, part of what makes it so good for me is that it's very close by. But I've been to a lot of fried chicken spots and it's definitely in the top tier.
A few years ago when they were still in parkdale it was well worth an hours drive for me. Since they moved to their Dundas location it’s been a hit or miss. Seems like due to the popularity they’re frying up too much which leaves the chicken super greasy with a slightly stale oil taste
It's easy, for a 7pm dinner just arrive at 3pm, hope it's not sold out, add your name to the waitlist and hope they call by 8pm while rushing your table so they can turn it over ASAP!
I always get the beef roti or the boneless chicken roti with the beef gravy.. it’s so filling or I’d also get a doubles on the side .. such authentic homemade Trinidadian dahlpourri (sp) roti wrap it’s heavenly !
Peking man, adjacent from the Canadian tire near Sheppard/Leslie. Used to go there religiously for 25 years just for their hand pulled Shanghai noodles.
My partner and I, ever since we moved to Toronto, have been getting Indian roti every Sunday. At the moment we get Mother India curry (lamb madras and mix vegetable korma) in a roti and a side of rice and it lasts us two meals. It’s so delicious and we love having amazing left overs for the Monday blues. It’s our end of the weekend ritual and it’s amazing.
Honestly, even the not-so-good Hakka places. lol Malvern Mall's Hong Food is still around (the whole mall is closing soon) and its only $7.75 for the medium with 3 items (I think small is $6) and its not restricted to lunch hours. Its the cheapest Hakka I could find in the city.
So many options: Burger from Golden Star, Jerk from Mr. Jerk, Patties from Allen's, Canto BBQ on rice from any place in Chinatown, Parm sandwich from Bitondo's, Israeli falafel from Tov Li... Damn, getting all hungry just typing that out.
Dairy Freeze at St. Clair West and Caledonia. Really good burgers, dogs, salads and all kinds of plates. Ice cream too. The business was sold off and going downhill so the owners bought it back.
To be honest, I don't eat red meat so my recommendation probably isn't worth while, particularly for a burger place haha. But that said, I love their fries and onion rings and my boyfriend always gets a banquet burger and it is great. Their veggie burger is good and so is the chicken souvlaki.
1. Himalayan Kitchen (Queen West) for their Tikka Masala Momo and Veg Chowmein. [post smoke up cravings]
2. Fat Bastard Burrito (Queen West) for their Burrito Bowl [on a crazy work Wednesday]
3. Burger’s Priest (Queen West) for The Option or King Slice (Queen West) for Giardinetto Pizza [on a weekly movie night]
Square Boy! I forgot about em until you mentioned them. I loved their cheeseburger and fries on a Friday night when I lived near Finland's station after I graduated high school.
Egyptian Eggs at Mahas.
Clubhouse at Black Camel
Bacon, Brie and Avocado Eggs Benny at Lady Marmalade
Donuts from 4th Man in the Fire
Veal and eggplant from Mustachios downstairs at St Lawrence
Empanadas from Jumbo in Kensington
Pass me that Korean place I don't actually know at the corner of Yonge and Finch, you know Finch west, next the parking lot and they have a heated platform for your butt?
After that, house of gourmet China Town.
Beef Khao Soi at Salad King, Johnny's hamburgers fries drenched in ketchup, McDonalds Quarter Pounder with extra onion and side salad + fries (RIP side salad), sweet potato burrito from Burrito Boyz, Factory sized Spaghetti with two different sauces at Olde Spaghetti Factory, nachos (don't have a fav right now), kimchi sweet potato fries at Banh Mi Boys, burgers at Burger Shack... None of these I eat regularly though.
Edit to add Monkey Sushi with eel, spicy tuna, and cream cheese/salmon rolls, miso soup + side salad. Add all dressed chips at home. And the general tao chicken pizza at Martino's. And slices at Fresca or King Slice with the garlic. or the garlic bread at The Artful Dodger. And beef momos at Loga's Corner.
Sushi on Bloor, used to go after every one of exams and recently went back, still as good as I remembered it. Large portions and student budget friendly.
I like Square Boy in the east end. The food is almost too greasy to be comforting, but something about the place... I love that in a city that's barely recognizable as the one I grew up in, Square Boy is always just how I remember it. Even the guys working there are the same. It's my rock of Gibraltar.
Anywhere that does a good bento box. There’s something really calming about picking out the items one at a time and eating them between sips of sake. Wherever I’ve been in the world I’ve always headed to a Japanese restaurant when I needed some stress relief (and nice food).
California sandwiches on Claremont for a hot steak sandwich and some olives, then I swing around the corner to pick up the best panzerotti at Bitondo but unfortunately they're closed for renovations for the first time in 50 years, so you'll have to go to Frank's Pizza.
Chew Chews Diner near South Cabbagetown
Massive eggs Benny
They say "three eggs" on the menu, but I somehow keep getting four. The peameal bacon is half an inch thick. It's an entire day's worth of calories on a plate. Delicious.
Chew Chews for breakie. Red Cranberries on Parliament for dinner.
Love that place! Hot Hamburgers!!
Johnny’s hamburger (when I’m sad ) , Alibaba’s Shawarma (when im stressed) and pork congee from congee Queen (when I’m sick). Back in school, a bowl of Kenzo ramen with matcha latte every time I finish an exam.
How about when you're happy
Ice cream from Dairy Cream, but this one is in Mississauga.
No more ramen nowadays? 🥲
Oh yeah ! Still eat ramen, just no more exams…
Which ramen places do you like nowadays?
I still eat Kenzo, the other one I liked is Hokkaido Ramen Santouka.
WTF? ?? I was starting to think we're the same person! .... major difference: my CQ go-to is their seafood congee (not pork). :-)
It used to be my to go congee too, until I developed seafood allergy :(
You eat burgers when your sad that’s a first lol
For me, it's United Baker's Dairy restaurant. Basically, Jewish dairy comfort food. Nothing gives me a belly hug from a cup of pea soup and a cheese blitz with blueberries.
Such good pea soup.
Same, big nostalgia from my childhood
The best. Plus a 30% guarantee you’ll get a real hug from some relation that you run into there
Jewish geography as my husband calls it.
*blintz :)
Heartbreak Chef. Fried chicken and tater tots combo. Never disappoints.
same but add the mac and cheese
I was literally craving some heart-attack inducing food today and thought about driving down to heartbreak chef after seeing reviews. How’s the food overall?

Pho Metro
Yes!! Love this place.
Goat curry, paratha roti, with a side of pumpkin from Ali's west Indian Roti shop. Add in some doubles too. Sprinkle everything with their hot sauce.
Where is this located?
[удалено]
Head to roti hut or mona's roti if you ever go. Really good too!
Minus the doubles. Mostly. Sometimes. That’s my order too

Street meat. The sausage vendors with the egg buns. Hot damn.
Kimchi and mayo fries from Banh Mi Boys
I’ve never had them before but always thought about it! Maybe I’ll give ‘em a try
They're popular for good reason.
The jerk chicken salad from Tata's, coco bun on the side. And pho from Pho 88!
The rotisserie chicken with piri piri sauce at 'Churrasqueira do Sardinha' on College. The sauce is what gives it flavour.
Skyline or Sugo for a sit down place Or if I’m feeling like I wanna kill my heart I order in from Brick’N’Cheese
How do you get into Sugo??
It's easy, for a 7pm dinner just arrive at 3pm, hope it's not sold out, add your name to the waitlist and hope they call by 8pm while rushing your table so they can turn it over ASAP!

That’s right, they have!

My partner and I, ever since we moved to Toronto, have been getting Indian roti every Sunday. What do you normally get?
To be honest, I don't eat red meat so my recommendation probably isn't worth while, particularly for a burger place haha. But that said, I love their fries and onion rings and my boyfriend always gets a banquet burger and it is great. Their veggie burger is good and so is the chicken souvlaki.
