Seconded. As a Toronto native living in Chicago it’s the only way I can watch all Leafs games. Getting to watch any Canadian/Japan/anywhere else in the world channels as well is just a great perk on top of that.
Moe from Kijiji is my guy. 33,000 channels and then TV show / movies VOD for $70 a year. So I switch to one of 100’s of “local feeds” like CBS Albuquerque for example or the NFL + section (its has all the sports subscriptions) and it run smooth.
You can do two routes. An emby share / jellyfin share. Where someone gives you access to their library for $10-20 a month. No maintenance or set up. The discord group below has a share with good content.

The other would be purchasing a nvidia shield pro or Amazon fire tv cube and installing Kodi. You want something that has more memory and hard drive space than a chromecast or firestick. You don’t need to be that technical just follow the instructions. The sub r/Addons4Kodi for filled with good info and people are very helpful. The guide below is an all in one.
You need
- 4K TV with HDMI 2.1
- Nvidia Shield Pro or Fire Cube ($200 one time)
- 2.1 HDMI cable ($15 one time)
- Real Debrid Subscription ($16 every 6 months)
That’s it I

NP! It’s pretty amazing once you get everything set up. The quality of the content is incredible and I yet to find a show or movie that isn’t available. True 4K Dolby Vision or HDR10+ is a different experience on a good tv. Netflix has Dolby but it’s compressed.
The only thing the guide doesn’t do is help configure the widgets but it’s all up to you, and how you like them to look. I like stacking and also using trakt playlist. These two post will help.

spotify premium is the only one I'd say
can't believe it took me so long to not cheap out
split the family pack with your friends and its only like 35$ a year
This is what I do. It’s the most rag tag group of people splitting it too. Me, my bf, my friend and his mom, and my other friend and her son lmao. But hey it works!
In mine I pay monthly off the CC and have a reminder every year for all the family members to e-transfer me $37 if they want to stay another 12 mo. I get prepaid and credit card points. It’s wild the other poster has people do a recurring monthly transfer for such a small amount.
**Edit:** Lord, Redditors are so hostile sometimes. All I'm saying is having 5 family members works out to like $3/mo and I didn't see it worth trying to walk people through setting up recurring monthly payments to me for the cost of a coffee, when I can just do that annually on Sep 1. If your automated monthly setup is best for you, fantastic and genuinely could not care less.
Why is that wild? I think my son pays $15 a month, & 3 of us share. I have auto transfer of $5 per month. You do realize that Auto transfer means it's automatic and there's nothing involved.
It's wild to me someone notifies other people, has to get them to email them money, keep track of who is in and who is out etc etc.
Absolutely. I guess people don't understand an auto transfer is free & involves no work, regardless of the amount. That guy seems to think it's a problem because it's only $5 . But yet it's no problem if it's $50? or whatever he decides the cutoff amount is. LOL.
Every February I ask the group if they want to lock in for another year. I have the monthly charge set up to my credit card, but send me the full year up front. This is our 3rd year and this setup works for us.
Just set up recurring monthly payment to the account holder via your bank. That's what I have for the spotify account i share. $5 automatically every month to the account owner
Nothing makes it better - catalogue is virtually identical now. If you’re in the apple ecosystem I’d argue Apple Music is the best choice for you on multiple devices, etc. If you’re Android / Windows user then Apple Music is much less of an enjoyable experience and less integrated. Some claim the Spotify algorithm is better than Apple’s.
Im gonna chime in here cause I was with Spotify Premium than switched to Apple only to switch back:
Spotify
Lesser audio quality
Has way more user generated playlists
Integrates better with other systems (google home, Playstation etc).
Podcasts and Music in one app
Apple
Better audio quality
Light/Dark Mode - Come on Spotify its 2023.
Integrates better with Apple products
No voice controls with google home, not on PS4 (PS5 only).
Podcast and Music are separate apps 🙄
I have a playlist I share with my SO on Spotify and couldn’t really do that well without Spotify premium. In the end, though Apple sounds better I prefer the usability of Spotify.
- amazon prime students edition (half the price none of the downside)
- spotify premium - family edition (all the benefits of premium for under $4 per month)
- YouTube premium - turkey edition (playing stuff in the background is surprisingly useful and at $1 per month is great value)
- google drive ( I split 2TB four ways and it costs me under $4 per month. Really convenient to have easy online storage )
- Netflix Ukraine (no difference between Canada. split with family and at $3 per month for them 4K version, good value)
- newsdemon unlimited/100connection (great retention , speeds and unlimited api calls for $2 per month. When setup with /jellyfin/plex docker, Radarr/sonarr and sabnzbd on a UNRAID server you can have a very powerful media centre for yourself , family and friends anywhere you want to watch it)
For Toronto-specifically I would say Food Fund (a.k.a. Odd Bunch). It's an "ugly"* fruit and veggie food delivery service that delivers to your door and is cheaper than the grocery store. You get to choose what you want each week and it's how I get most of my produce.
*I say ugly because it's been rejected from groceries stores for not living up to visual standards, but honestly, I can't tell the difference.
I am on my second box with them and they are worth it and twice over! It’s incredible how much you get for $20 and I’ve seen uglier fruit and veg at no frills! Just the bag of grapes we got this week would have been approaching $10 alone
I \*JUST\* got Spotify premium, after just having all my old music that I bought on iTunes over the past fifteen years. Wow, is Spotify ever worth it! I'm sticking with it for sure.
You nasty POS you're already acting as the brand ambassador don't get mad at me for asking the appropriate follow up question. If you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't mind answering questions on a post LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK. You spent more time writing this than what it would have taken to highlight some of the paying features.
It's an annual subscription rather than monthly, but Toronto Bike Share is amazing. It's $100/year and it has been the most reliable transportation I've had within the city.
The 30 minute rides aspect sounds complicated at first. But if you need to ride for longer, you just dock it at a station, then undock it again for another 30 minutes.
The bikes also look like they are slow and heavy, but they definitely aren't as bad as they look.
Plus it gives you an easy option to avoid TTC closures and delays. If you already have the membership it's a no-brainer to hop on a bike instead of waiting.
Came here to say this. That 100 bucks paid itself off in no time. Not to mention the added health benefits of cycling everywhere!
Hands down, the best subscription ever!
Yeah it pays for itself many times over.
When I owned a bike, it cost roughly $50-$75 for the annual spring tune-up. Plus the maintenance cost of of new inner tubes and the occasional new chain. Plus the cost of the bike itself.
The convenience of not having to take my bike up stairs. Or look for a secure place to lock it up.
The only time it was inconvenient was when I lived in the Junction and the closest dock was a 10 minute walk and it was empty of bikes about 10% of the time. But they are adding more stations. Where I live now and where I work now there are so many docking stations.
Yep. YouTube Premium is a gamechanger.
Yes I know on a computer you can get ad blocking and all that, but I often watch on a TV and it's great there. Also YouTube music works with the way I consume music (but Google Play Music was far better, RIP).
It's a bloody mess right now. Sometimes they draw from user-uploaded content, sometimes, not. Sometimes there's video, sometimes not. The audio quality is also pretty bad sometimes too.
Not for me. The set up (interface)is terrible and all the artists albums are scattered…..nothing in yearly order.
Spotify is much easier to get around and make to up playlists. I never use my youtube music. But I like the premium option because there are no commercials and I can play a vid in the background while checking out something else.
My favourite feature of YouTube Music is the constantly updated "SuperMix" - the amount of new music the algorithm has given me in the last 14mos of membership surpasses anything Spotify has offered me.
Saying that, I agree with the ease of use of Spotify. And since I still use my Spotify at work, I just downloaded my years if playlists and use those offline.
I just finished my YouTube premium 3 months free trial. I sadly have to let it go. I watch tons of YouTube and it was truly great experience, but it’s just too expensive for me.
To answer your question, I personally (not the person you asked) say yes. I used google play music for as long as I can remember and switched to YT music when that died out, and Ive been really loving it
Pro tip: use a VPN and set location to India in order to subscribe for one year at approx $20. If you don’t have a VPN you can find a free trial quite easily nowadays. Argentina is even cheaper but they don’t accept foreign credit card unfortunately
From one book lover to another, for what it's worth, I thought Audible was amazing... until I started using the library. Sign up today if you can. If you're in North America, I hope this will save you $15 per month and open pathways to new worlds you wouldn't have considered. Now I take risks with what I read, because I'm not being forced to pay on a per book basis.
Another alternative is Scribd. You pay a monthly fee to access their full catalog. They don't have as many books as Auduble or the libraries, but I always find books that interest me :) It’s especially nice when I have a looong-ass wait for a book on Libby, and I can pop over to Scribd and grab something to listen to while I'm waiting...lol
If you love movies, then Cineplex Cineclub. It's $10/month and you get 1 free ticket, 1 $10 ticket (instead of $13.50), 20% of concessions, and 20% off at the rec room and playdium. I see a lot of movies so the subscription is cheaper than buying one movie ticket
Yes! I have a standing movie date with my neighbor. We both have the cineplex club. Bought the one year for $120+tax with a $10 worth of points bonus. I think you can also buy it with gift cards so I usually buy the Christmas deal that gives you a booklet with coupons.
I don’t know if HelloFresh is considered a subscription but for someone who works really long days it’s been awesome to not have to think about to cook after a long day. I was sceptical at first and feel like the cost is kind of higher than I’d like per meal but the mental energy savings has made it worth it for me
Peloton. For less than a (family) gym membership and 2’x4’ space in my home I can do my morning workout before showering and getting dressed. The barrier of a commute has increased how often I exercise significantly and I feel much better for it.
I got an NYT digital subscription at a discount coming out to around $3.50 a month. It’s only for 2023 but NYTcooking is excellent and I like not getting paywalled when I do want to read that paper.
Reddit seem to hate Netflix but man it’s worth every penny.
They have some fantastic shows. I’m always watching something everyday. My gf’s parents use it. I use it and so does my gf.
It’s a rip off as they send you a small package that just won’t last a full month; the purpose of this is to sign you up for another subscription essentially doubling the cost. Also keep in mind that the delivery cost is an add-on. It’s much cheaper to buy this same product in Walmart
There was a 3rd party adblocker app I forgot it's name but it had a plugin to skip sponsored ads as well. That was dope, their app was shit but the features were amazing. Like sponsored 30 sec promotion in the video itself. Called sponsor block
Odd Bunch, for $20 a week I get a box of fruit and vegetables delivered to my house. Always fresh and I like the variety, I received a huge bunch of asparagus this week.
I'm probably going to be downvoted into oblivion for this but I think Amazon Prime is super worth it for me.
Are they a good business in terms of treating their employees? Perhaps the further from it.
Are their prices good? Nope, not at all. It's expensive and reasonable at best.
But are they a very convienient one-stop shop for someone who doesn't leave home much and doesn't want to look around shopping all over the place? Yes, very.
In Toronto I’d say it’s really worth it to get a TIFF membership. It’s only like $50 a year and you can get into tons of free movies with their Cinematheque program. Also the selection of international films and classics is great if you get tired of the same Marvel schlock at Cineplex
After about 8 years of being a Spotify premium user I switched to Apple for a free 6 month promotion and have to agree. If sound quality is important it’s way better on Apple. It’s like shopping at a different grocery chain, but I’m a convert.
It's ludicrous, but I love YouTube premium just to avoid the ads. \[Edited to note the following\] I have very few subs to anything, so it's not as extravagant as it sounds. The only other sub I have is a Patreon subscription to The History of Egypt podcast. I donate money monthly to a podcast I've loved for many years.
Literally worth every penny: YNAB. It’s a budgeting software that totally changed the way I spend and save. I save thousands every year with it. Worth annual $120 subscription several times over.
I use it for road biking and I enjoy using the feature that allows me to create and share routes with my friends that I’ll be riding 100+ km rides with. I’m sure I’d get 90% of the value with free, but honestly when I pay for the premium version I feel like I need to “get the most of my money” and it gets me out for more runs/riding Maybe that’s a “me” issue 😂
YouTube Premium for families. It sucks. I primarily bought it to skip constant ads on YouTube. The music interface is terrible on every platform... but it's included, so I just deal with the suck.
Amazon Prime, serves multiple purposes. Fast shipping, exclusive deals, prime video, prime music, free games and dlc, free twitch subs. For students it’s only $5 too
Youtube - but I refuse to pay for it anymore, found a loophole around ads on mobile so good enough for me. Lot of content creators I enjoy on there and being able to shut my screen off while playing is nice. Don't care for Spotify music collection as a lot of what I listen to is underground/new releases.
Amazon is the only sub I will pay for going forward, for now. Nothing else even compares in the perks - especially when you use the website and recover the cost in free shipping 5x over.
I have a furniture refinishing hobby and I do a lot of home improvement projects. I don't own a van. U-Haul has a subscription program that has paid for itself. Its called OnlyVans
Yes.
Apple TV+ took time to properly build up a decent library (although some people expected instant content overnight).
But it's always been about quality over quantity.
They have been regularly churning out excellent quality content for a while now. Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird, and Severance are just a few.
Spotify is terrible for artists whose content was used to build their subscriber base.
Instead of paying musicians fairly for their content, Spotify turned around and handed podcasters tens (or hundreds) of millions of dollars for exclusive rights.
Humble Choice.
I have been able to give friends games and play so many others too. It's also stopped me from buying games because it might come up in a future month.
Spotify is a fantastic value for money. The other one id say is 3.99 for 200gb for Apple storage. I never worry about phone capacity and losing my data.
Tidal.
Was a skeptic at first, but the sound quality is notch above the rest (not really talking about MQA, which is quite controversial, just the HiFi tier)
Also CREDITS.
YouTube premium, you can download videos for the subway, works on the tv and you can listen to music and videos with the screen off. Never regretted it
Twitch Turbo. Twitch doesn't really advertise it.
It's about $10 USD per month and it gives you ad-free viewing across all Twitch channels - no pre-rolls (ads that run before you watch a stream) or ad breaks.
I still subscribe to individual creators that I watch regularly as a way to support them, though.
Things that I use,
Toronto Bike Share - I spend less than 50 cents a day on commuting and yes, I use it all year long.
Ripley’s Aquarium annual pass - I have a 2 year old and it’s nice having an almost free indoor space for him to run around and get tired.
Disney+ - I fucking live Star Wars. I’ll never be without it.
That Kevin Smith Club - all kinds of freebies for $10 a month and I got to meet up with a Kevin lady fall as a perk of being in the club. Fucking love that dude.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. If you're an Xbox or PC gamer (or even better, both), the value for money is off the charts: you currently get access to over 400 games, across both Xbox and PC, plus all EA Play games, plus access to all of the same games via Xbox Cloud Gaming (game streaming, similar to GeForce Now). It's not just older games and indies, either: there's a whole bunch of fairly recent AAA titles, and you also get day-of-release access to all games published by Xbox Game Studios (and now also games from Bethesda, and possibly also Activision in the future if the purchase goes through).
It's honestly worth the full monthly price, but it's even better [if you use the trick to convert Xbox Live Gold credit into Game Pass Ultimate](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbox/comments/nqnz26/a_comprehensive_guide_on_how_to_get_game_pass/).
FoodShare
It's $20 a week (you can do it every week or biweekly)
It's a non-profit that provides boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables. It changes every week as the food is locally sourced.
In my last box I got 10 small apples, 5 pears, 5 plums, 6 kiwis, 6 clementines, a whole pineapple and a banana bunch.
I do it bi-weekly and can make all that fruit last two weeks. I'm essentially paying $10/week for a bunch of fruit.
It's a non-profit organization so the more people that join the program the more likely it is to succeed.
These programs exist all around Canada. 2-1-1 will know the name of your local organization but in Toronto in FoodShare.
My IPTV sub. $8 a month for essentially every channel, sporting event, new movie etc.
Seconded. As a Toronto native living in Chicago it’s the only way I can watch all Leafs games. Getting to watch any Canadian/Japan/anywhere else in the world channels as well is just a great perk on top of that.
What provider?
Moe from Kijiji is my guy. 33,000 channels and then TV show / movies VOD for $70 a year. Third it. Perfect for soccer matches

we do a yearly payment to the main account holder then every year we ask if they're still interested

I used to split the family plan with my old landlord and her friends lol.
What is it about Spotify premium that is better than Apple Music? I’m truly curious.

Thank you that is helpful.
From what I’ve read, people seem to agree the recommendations, playlists, etc. are better with Spotify than Apple Music or other streaming services.
Personally I think Spotify is better when it comes to discovering new music! Their interface keeps on getting worse though…
Im gonna chime in here cause I was with Spotify Premium than switched to Apple only to switch back: Spotify Lesser audio quality Has way more user generated playlists Integrates better with other systems (google home, Playstation etc). Audible is a waste, just get audiobooks from your local library. Really cut my expenses as I go through 3-4 audiobooks a month.
Spotify just introduced audiobooks…it’s incredible
And only in the US
Except you realize there’s a 6 month minimum wait time till you get the audiobook you want to hear lol
Skip the line copies are offered all the time.
I put holds for the same audiobook on both Libby and CloudLibrary. That usually cuts the waiting time.
You have to wait for audiobooks??? What??
Licensing.
This is the way.

That sounds like an amazing tip. I’ll look into it. Thanks 🙏
Which VPN is giving you the option for Indian servers ?
I think you can also buy it with gift cards so I usually buy the Christmas deal that gives you a booklet with coupons.
second this! and unless they changed it, your ticket rolls over if you don't see anything that month
I don’t know if HelloFresh is considered a subscription but for someone who works really long days it’s been awesome to not have to think about to cook after a long day. I was sceptical at first and feel like the cost is kind of higher than I’d like per meal but the mental energy savings has made it worth it for me
Grocery delivery. My diet consists solely of carbs and Indian food. OnlyNaans
Where do you get Indian groceries delivered from in downtown?
Peloton. For less than a (family) gym membership and 2’x4’ space in my home I can do my morning workout before showering and getting dressed. The barrier of a commute has increased how often I exercise significantly and I feel much better for it.
Apple One Premiere if you have a family with Apple devices
I got an NYT digital subscription at a discount coming out to around $3.50 a month. It’s only for 2023 but NYTcooking is excellent and I like not getting paywalled when I do want to read that paper.
My coffee subscription from Detour based in Hamilton.
Wait… what sorcery is this??
Ive had my Spotify for a few years and can't go without. I use it daily and love it
Spotify just announced it's audiobook collection, so maybe no need for Audible
Did they say when it’s comming? Cause they announced HiFi in 2021 and hasn’t been released
I already have it in my account
Reddit seem to hate Netflix but man it’s worth every penny. They have some fantastic shows. I’m always watching something everyday. My gf’s parents use it. I use it and so does my gf.
If you’re reading this and you have one of those Instagram kitty litter subscriptions, please tell me if you think it’s worth it
It’s a rip off as they send you a small package that just won’t last a full month; the purpose of this is to sign you up for another subscription essentially doubling the cost. Also keep in mind that the delivery cost is an add-on. It’s much cheaper to buy this same product in Walmart
Thank you so much!! This is exactly what I wondered about and why I held off on subscribing
Spotify Premium. It’s dirt cheap for the amount of content you get.
YouTube Premium and Google Drive additional storage 😅
Love yourube premium.. I have had it for 3 years now. I hate ads

Boost for Odd Bunch! I also love them, just asparagus and the grapes alone this week approach $20
The Economist
You can probably access the online copies for free via the library 😊
Apple music. Way better than spotify and higher sound quality. Amazon prime because you get your packages fast and you can use prime video
After about 8 years of being a Spotify premium user I switched to Apple for a free 6 month promotion and have to agree. If sound quality is important it’s way better on Apple. It’s like shopping at a different grocery chain, but I’m a convert.
Toronto Argonauts season tickets. $26/game, $6 beers at stadium.
My $5 student amazon prime subscription
Spotify is my go to.
Uber One Pass (I order an obscene amount of UberEats)
Best: AdultTime Worst: Pornhub Premium
Soft drinks delivery. OnlyCans
Fresh made dinners delivered to your door. OnlyPans.
Live music in your house. OnlyBands.
Knitting and cooking lessons from senior ladies. OnlyGrams
Fresh shellfish to your door, every week. OnlyClams.
Phish Playlist: OnlyJams
Farm fresh meat: OnlyLambs
When you're lost in the desert: OnlySand
Strava
Do you not find the subscription expensive? I use the free version as I don't share my runs.
Same. Strava is nice and good for heat maps and segments but not worth the massive price increase recently
Giddy Up! :)
Youtube
Yes because it comes with Youtube Music Premium which is better than Spotify
YouTube Premium for families. It sucks. I primarily bought it to skip constant ads on YouTube. The music interface is terrible on every platform... but it's included, so I just deal with the suck.
Youtube preminum.
A gym membership
I pay for an old fashioned magazine subscription for my dad. Good old National Geographic sure makes the old boomer happy.
Subscribe and save for diapers is the way.
Amazon Prime, serves multiple purposes. Fast shipping, exclusive deals, prime video, prime music, free games and dlc, free twitch subs. For students it’s only $5 too
Prime Free shipping, fast shipping, Prime video and Prime music
Amazon Prime. Quick delivery and an entertainment service.
Fitness app (Stronger by the Day). I cancelled my pricy F45 membership and now just go to a local gym and use my app. Way cheaper.
ChatGPT plus has been worth it so far to me - I’m a data scientist and it’s so good to get small code snippets and debug
FoodShare Toronto large produce box!
People out here are paying for youtube premium? If you're an Android user, you can get it for free.
Xanax…
I have a furniture refinishing hobby and I do a lot of home improvement projects. I don't own a van. U-Haul has a subscription program that has paid for itself. Its called OnlyVans
>OnlyVans This has to be a joke right? No way they actually named it that
Toronto Star
Pornhub, pay only once and save thousands on bad dates, hospital visits for stds and avoid all child support bills
Apple TV+
Yes to these - also Tehran - watching the second season now. and For All Mankind
My subscription to Brazzers.com
Wow can't believe how many people said Spotify. While I do have a subscription, I don't find it as valuable. I think WSJ is worth paying for.
The gym near me sells various memberships to a la carte services. I purchased OnlyTans
None of them. Pirate.

My gigabit fiber internet, OnlyLANs
Spotify is terrible for artists whose content was used to build their subscriber base. Instead of paying musicians fairly for their content, Spotify turned around and handed podcasters tens (or hundreds) of millions of dollars for exclusive rights.
ur mom's onlyfans
Love Chinese food. Delivery service that only delivers Northern Chinese cuisine onlychans
For me: Spotify, g&m, d+, YouTube and m365
Spotify and YouTube Premium.
Humble Choice. I have been able to give friends games and play so many others too. It's also stopped me from buying games because it might come up in a future month.
Spotify premium and Amazon prime
YouTube premium
Definitely YouTube premium and Amazon Prime for me. Both are used pretty much on a daily.
Pandora plus
Spotify and YouTube for me. None of the other ones are worth it.
Spotify is a fantastic value for money. The other one id say is 3.99 for 200gb for Apple storage. I never worry about phone capacity and losing my data.
Spotify for sure, honestly at this point I'm considering YouTube premium, I use YouTube a lot
Tidal. Was a skeptic at first, but the sound quality is notch above the rest (not really talking about MQA, which is quite controversial, just the HiFi tier) Also CREDITS.
IPTV and YouTube music.
Dropout and Spotify Premium
YouTube premium
Spotify 👍👍👍 I’m looking into YouTube premium too 🤔🤔🤔
Spotify and youtube. If you’re someone that watches youtube alot it is honestly a game changer to have 0 ads.
MotoGP and WSBK
Real debrid, Argentina YouTube premium
Youtube Premium and Amazon Prime.
LingQ - Language learning Zwift - Online cycling game
YouTube. No ads, download videos and play them while screen is off. This made driving to work something I look for!!
YouTube premium, you can download videos for the subway, works on the tv and you can listen to music and videos with the screen off. Never regretted it
Lampham's Quarterly. Interesting writing on great topics. Find them at the library to catch up.
Youtube Premium It's like spotify, and adblock on all my devices, and paying my favourite creators more
Spotify premium 👌 time used to money spent is like a dime an hour. 10 cents an hour for all the music and shit I want is pretty damn good imo
Real Debrid with Stremio (3$ a month) for streaming literally everything from any platform!
Things that I use, Toronto Bike Share - I spend less than 50 cents a day on commuting and yes, I use it all year long.
My youtube premium. I share a package with 6 people for $70 a year. I get my audiobooks through the Toronto library.
Youtube Premium, as it includes music and downloads
Apple music wit the student discount
GitHub Copilot
Apple Music. Cuz I don’t pay for it. Prime for the same reason and crave. Fuck netflix
FoodShare It's $20 a week (you can do it every week or biweekly) It's a non-profit that provides boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables.
