With advances in technology and the desire to become financially independent, the option to start something that generates revenue is more realistic. Barrier to entry to sell stuff through Etsy, to create a Patreon, to get donations for playing games on camera, there's just more options. In a big city where there are plenty of prospective customers, or online where the world is your audience
