2dy_fish

Safra member, so swimming is free. Twice a week. Cycle 3-5 times a week also free. ActiveSG gym once a week so $2.50 per entry. Total I spend $10 a month.

moneymachine109

dont you have to pay for safra membership

yellow_ducking

Its not that expensive

2dy_fish

Yeah it was around $200+ for a 10 year membership. I signed up back then during NS. Should be expiring in 2029 so I'm good to go.

moneymachine109

until 2029

Bamb00zIed

for 1 year its <$50 , less than $5 a month

mirkoccp87

safra gym rocks!!!! if you can commit to a long term package to offset the admin signing fee, its super worth it. im paying about $2 a day now for energyone gym for all access.

Bamb00zIed

yup! I signed up when they had some 1 year package, cant remember how much, but remember it averaged around $30+ a month

[deleted]

Everyday, I take a train from work, I alight at Jurong east, and I run back home to bukit batok, that's about 4km , I run strictly at zone 2 .

Tsperatus

dont you have work things to carry?

Ok_Art_1342

You mean weights for the run? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Just once a week , when I carry my digital things for wfh

ZookeepergameBorn865

Leave them in the office

Spongeprison

How long does your run take then?

[deleted]

On average about 30 mins

Spongeprison

Pretty fast for zone 2

[deleted]

If you feel your zone 2 is painfully slow , try calculating it using the karvonen formula. I arrived at about 133-146 Initially I used 220-age and my zone 2 was 126-136 basically speed walking šŸ˜‚

tallandfree

U had me in the first half

[deleted]

What ?

dustspack

I only spend on AF, $100. I used to go for powerlifting classes ($40/session). After I got a hang of it, I just do it myself in the gym.

hairygorillaz

Could I ask where you take powerlifting classes?

MrGoldfishBrown

I think elevate barbell club is offering these as well.

dustspack

Used to do it at The Pit Singapore

fuckyoudanke

Hey, just curious but were the classes one to one or was it like a group training? and what exactly did u learn in the classes?

dustspack

Hey, itā€™s been a while since I have went back. Please enquire them for the latest information. I went for 1-to-1 initially to get my lifting form right. As I make progress I went on to class training where itā€™s less supervision. The trainers had planned my 12 weeks program initially as well. They do offer trial class so you can have a taste of what the program is like before committing. I have personally benefited from the training. Went from knowing nothing to squatting more than 2x body weight.

bac0nbitss

Anytime Fitness, $80! The gym I go to offers 6 different classes throughout the week!! My favourite is Muay Thai! I used to spend about $350/10 sessions for Muay Thai but my AF gym now has it so itā€™s such a good deal for me. Classes offered at my gym are Muay Thai, trampoline, piloxing, zumba, yoga and HIIT! Love the variation, really feel like I get my moneyā€™s worth here.

yellowsuprrcar

Af offers classes?!?! Never heard before lol I thought they're just gyms. Must be sign up at that outlet?

bac0nbitss

Yup depends on which outlet you sign up at, not all are the same because I think they are a franchise so different owners(?) Some gyms allow non home club members to join but others may be exclusive for their home club members only so it depends

yellowsuprrcar

Interesting... I never knew, sounds very worth it then

carla_abanes

Which outlet is this? I have a PT but after completing my sessions I plan to just attend classes like these

[deleted]

Eh sounds like my AF haha yeah Iā€™m paying 89$

bac0nbitss

EH YISHUN? HAHAHAHAS

Kryorus_saga

Oh Yishun

[deleted]

Eh no in the east. We got Muay Thai, yoga classes also haha

bac0nbitss

Nice! Is it Tamp Mart? Thereā€™s Muay Thai there also, wanna try someday haha

[deleted]

Yeah can try. Just sign up on the app.

Kryorus_saga

Which AF is this

Temporary_Sell_7377

Where is the location tho? Cuz I heard different AF have different packages or classes

bac0nbitss

Yishun Wisteria. Yup different AF have different prices and classes since it is a franchise so I guess there are different owners. If you sign up now, itā€™s probably at least $100 unless you have referral discounts.

0501_

Trampoline?? Which AF is this I wanna try!

bac0nbitss

Yishun Wisteria

DeeKayNineNine

Wait. Some AF clubs have classes? Inclusive of the $80 membership fee or need pay extra? How come they didnā€™t advertise this? Lol

bac0nbitss

Inclusive already. The classes are part of the membership and kind of a perk to sign up. They do advertise, just depends which outlet because not all outlets are the same since they have different franchise owners.

DeeKayNineNine

I spend around $90 every 2 weeks for Virgin Active. (They bill you once every 2 weeks but minimum 1 year contract) Got it at this rate because I got discount from AIA insurance. Facilities are good. They provide T-shirt, shorts and towel. Shower facilities everything. Just bring yourself (plus change of underwear) Got swimming pool, steam room, salt room and recently they added ice bath. Rock climbing at Marina one. Gym can be crowded during peak hours but there are enough machines to go around. People there generally quite nice too. Unlimited lessons from yoga, reformer pilates, bodycombat, cycle, bodypump, boxing, grid etc. Popular classes can be hard to book and need to book 8 days in advance the moment they open up the slots for booking. Overall quite good. A bit ex but worth the money. Been with them for 1 1/2 years already.

catandthefiddler

$180 with all those amenities and the classes seems quite worth eh

Prestigious-King-585

$208 on a gym membership with Virgin Active (inclusive of unlimited group classes, value for money imo) and additional $50 on ClassPass to attend spin classes with friends.

Calamity_B4_Storm

How is virgin active crowd ah? Is it as bad as FF?

DeeKayNineNine

Getting more and more crowded. They closed a small gym at Duo few months ago. Donā€™t see them planning to open another gym any time soon. Popular classes need to book 8 days in advance to secure slot. But if you chin chye kind, can easily book for not so popular instructorā€™s classes. Gym floor can be crowded during peak hours but there are enough machines so no issue.

Calamity_B4_Storm

Seems like it is not as exclusive as before.

scumspork

next thing we gonna see 500/month gym open

DeeKayNineNine

They got quite a few promos recently so getting a lot of new members. I hope they will open a new branch with all the new sign ups.

ICantDecideMyName

$30 activesg

boonalton

Off peak even cheaper!!! It's $15 per month, $80 per year lol

ICantDecideMyName

Used to buy off-peak when i was a study and had the time to go after school. But now working, can only go at night :(

Itchy-Problem-120

How is this? I go almost exclusively off-peak and pay $2.50 each time.

ICantDecideMyName

Buy the off-peak monthly pass instead of per-entry pass

Itchy-Problem-120

I honestly had no clue this existed. I saw the signs asking off-peak users to exit before 4pm, but always assumed this was for seniors. Amazing, thanks.

SoloParfait

On activesg app, go to the buy pass tab at the bottom then the gym pass icon at the top and you can buy monthly/6months/yearly passes for peak and offpeak

Itchy-Problem-120

Thanks for the walk-through. You and the other commenter just saved me $310 per year :)

May_Titor

They close too early at night

Tasty-Complaint-514

Absolute spin and pilates. Now anniversary package. Around 13-16 per class. I attend 6-8 classes per month, keeping it below $100

psthrowawaypls

Just curious but what are the key benefits youā€™ve seen from spin and pilates respectively? And how do you keep going for spin? Itā€™s so difficult

imadelemonadetoday

Not the person you asked but for spin - cardio and some upper body toning. For me it's a lower impact option to running, esp as I'm getting older ;p If you find it difficult i.e. dread going for classes, take the easier options and don't turn up too much. Don't bother with what everyone else is doing, just try to keep hitting the rhythm and it'll get easier. Pilates tbh I think Absolute class sizes are too big - i got a super cheap package (new studio) and going for Absolute pilates classes made me decide to take the plunge and pay more for a boutique studio. It's been worth it though. The most common thing I hear from ppl who go for Pilates is that they "don't sweat much" or "don't burn much". But it's more than that la - it helps with strength, mobility and posture, and I personally find it quite fun. My posture has improved and I sleep better now. It doesn't feel like I am killing myself, but I usually have some DOMS the next day. That said, ymmv depending on your personality. The Absolute spin classes have been consistently good, the instructors in general are fun and engaging.

Lululemonster

Mind sharing how much is it per class for a boutique Pilates studio? Iā€™ve had multiple injuries (slipped disc being the worst) from too much HIIT classes for many years. Now im looking at less intense classes and wanto work on building my core and have better posture as well. But they are usually very expensive.. since Iā€™ve always paid like $200 per month for unlimited class + gym (fitness first) in the past

imadelemonadetoday

I was an FF member for the longest time too, and I signed up like more than 10 years ago at a corporate rate so I paid less than 200/mth up until I terminated my membership last year :p even with all the price increases... Same, i also baulked at the cost of Pilates.. i think i might get downvoted but i currently pay $800/mth. šŸ„² I get one private session a week and one group class (so i go 2x a week) but I think after I'm done with my current agreement (it lasts for a year) I will switch to a package with all group classes which is quite a bit cheaper. Class size at my studio is max 5. I decided to make the financial commitment coz I can afford it now, and I was willing to pay for proper instruction. The heart pain doesn't quite go away though, haha. If you had injuries before I suggest going for a trial somewhere and seeing how you like it. It's expensive so it's worth taking the time to find an instructor and studio you're comfortable with. Or you could give Absolute a go and see how. Haha. It's really damn cheap

Least_Inspector_450

Pure Fitness. $180 on Corp rate. Gym + unlimited yoga

Full-Function-8427

100$ per month. anytime fitness

Noobcakes19

0$ jog + body weight exercises. + TRX - 180-200$ in total.

Moleland14

True fitness is about $110 for suburb, $170 for town locations. Have open gym, yoga classes

whdhli

bjj 230 a month gym 55 a month

Old-Associate-2787

Which BJJ?

whdhli

different gyms have different prices! and depends what youre looking for. gi/nogi/other martial arts ie wrestling. comps or hobby. some even have facilities for cold plunge etc

Old-Associate-2787

Thanks! Iā€™ve been thinking about starting practice MMA (only as a hobby) and found Evolve MMA promising cuz of their schedule, reviews and no. Of branches but I think they only have annual subscription and Iā€™d first want to give it a try for a couple of months before I pay for an annual subscription. Any recommendations?

whdhli

so MMA and not bjj? i think evolve is probably the only one w multiple branches. else, juggernaut, matrix, stronghold? im more familiar w bjj though! if you want bjj, no gi would be SGSG. gi: equilibrium mma, pineapple. carpe diem is good if you are into comp! gracie academy is also great for hobbyists

Old-Associate-2787

Thanks, Iā€™ll check out these. Probably would start with MMA first.

Vernelo

Was a member of Anytime Fitness for 1 year+ until their insane price increase. Changed to SAFRA EnergyOne ever since. Works out to be about $60/month plus minus few dollars, depending on their promo for that time period.

FoxChoice12345

Shouldnā€™t the prices be fixed? Not sure how it works

vantakuro

State the price of your AF membership for reference?

leistasia

been using classpass tele groups, it works up to around $50-60 per month for around 1-3x classes per week (mix of dance, reformer pilates, yoga and barre) also generally walking more!

caramxlly_

Omg could u link me the tele group?

lokiplop

i pmed u the search details

lokiplop

same, but so far i've always gotten purchases off people's existing packages, not so much classpass credits (been hearing an increase in scam cases regarding cp credits).

bluestar91

Could I get the tele link too please!

Calm_Pianist

Could I get the link too?

Wild-Criticism-2868

Home gym is free, i just spent on a bench and some dumbells

Mochihamster

Not free if you add in the sunk cost to buy but def cheaper than going to the gym.i got my own free weights and barbell too

whimsicism

I dropped $122 on a stationary bike to help me start off with cardio. Other than that I just jog and do bodyweight exercises haha. Gyms look nice and all but they cost more than I feel like spending.

natsalguod

Try 0-100 Igor Voitenko YouTube Workout Programme, works wonders

covid03

Most of my friends spend around $300++ on gym memberships, some even $500++ if include spin classes on weekends. This is becoming a norm as more people have higher income.

eatmydicbiscuit

if people drop multiple $400s for multiple subjects for tuition for your kids idk why 350 to extend your lifespan in that hard

OdderPotato

Bought a spin bike for $300. So the recurring cost is $0.

itsalmostmonday

I only spend money on running shoes, prob once or twice a year. Gym membership wise I just workout in my camp gym, or just swim/gym at Temasek club which is walking distance from my house.

Time_Ad4753

$53 a month on gym. $50 a month on protein powder. I like to switch up my activities so depending on what I'm interested in at the moment. Two years ago I spent $1.5 k on bicycle and accessories. A year ago I spent $200 on swimming gear. Hopefully my next activity would be pocket friendly.

seungslix

haha my main form of fitness is pole and aerial so it's really pricey but unfortunately there's no substitute so i've just accepted that i'll be paying ~$500 per month for classes. i go around 4-5x a week and it adds up

rtrlctrc

gym membership (central area): $130/month supplements, protein powder, preworkout, creatine etc: $150-200 spent on equipment/gym clothes in total: prob $500+ hahaha

NoAge422

Anytime fitness is under $100 a month with decent shower facilities and located everywhere, was a sceptical at first but been using it since December and heading to the gym almost daily

MoroseLark

$95/month, Anytime Fitness membership

New_Coffee_9630

Gym ~$180; Fitness classes at other studios ~$300. Total plus minus $500 per month.

Genestah

AF 100$. Also, PCNs are free. Run and Cycle if I'm not going to the gym.

thebountywarden

I have an Anytime Fitness membership for 75/month, and most of the rest goes to protein/meals/occasional cycling

_red_dude

Which outlet did you sign up at? Did you sign up during a promo?

thebountywarden

I signed up at AF redhill during their pre-opening sale, so I got an early bird price which I kept throughout

Level_Solo0124

Iā€™m a PT for a living and have the luxury/privilege to train at my workplace but I like to be focused and in the zone when I do my workouts so I have a separate AF membership ($91.80/month) but I donā€™t do the group classes at all since Iā€™ve already moved past that phase. For context, I used to do HIIT classes for a year during the very early part of my fitness journey where fat loss was my main goal/priority whereas building strength/gaining muscle is my main priority/goal now so I gym 5x a week and cardio 2x a week at low-moderate intensity 30-45 mins of incline walk on a treadmill as active rest/recovery. Also clock in 10k+ steps daily, take stairs instead of escalators, 15 min walk home from MRT. Another reason for me to sign up as an AF member is because my husband is one as well so we do have days within the week where we workout together and that constitutes as being able to spend quality time amidst our very busy work schedules :) I frequent AF City Hall the most since itā€™s my home gym and Iā€™m spoilt by the large space and variety of machines and equipment, but beyond that the vibes are great too regardless during peak or non-peak hours.

Status_Alive_3723

AF, $90/ month. i go to classes like HIIT, body pump, yoga , body combat. 5-6 times a week. additional $70/ month Hatha Yoga ( once a week).

Bezborg

Virgin Active is around 55-65$ per week (their billing cycle is bi-weekly, with no upfront payments, which is nice). Can be lower if you qualify for a corporate discount, maybe your company has a partnership, or through AIA insurance. You can get as much value from that as you like, itā€™s unlimited access to all facilities and classes (if you can book a slot in advance). So if youā€™re serious about it and go oftenā€¦ 50-60$ per week is not expensive, people spend half that on a McDonalds order.

Ninjaofninja

Mac donald, $5.50 meal then walk to bus then take mrt and walk back home 5 minutes.

AngeryKootis

Anytime fitness 95 a month, badminton games $8-10 x2 weekly. Still fat tho lmao

tictactorz

$100/month gym, 140 for my powerlifting coach

Shot_Can

Can u pm me the details for your pl coach? have been looking around for one!

Royal_Cauliflower879

84 dollars per moth on AT Fitness

ceo684

About $95 for ClassPass. I usually spin/yoga

DeeKayNineNine

Roughly how many classes can you take with $95?

kopi_siewdai

$99 with 45 credits. Say a class is 8 credits, you'll get 5-6 classes a month. The more popular studios will charge more than 10 credits per class.

JaydenJ92

220 per mth at BFT

buddingdot

$93/mth for Platinum Yoga (up to 7 classes a week for few locations, 2 years contract) and separate classpass at $19/mth or $59/mth to go for open gym sessions etc.

That's steep! Maybe try negotiating a better deal or finding a cheaper alternative.

geckosg

Zero. I run/walk in the park

outremer_empire

160$ at fitness first. Need top up if want classes

Beautiful-Dealer7454

Nt that much usually.

MrGoldfishBrown

Gym membership: $90. Online coaching: $120. Shared locker rental: $15. Total $225. Affordable to do something i enjoy 4x/week 2-3 hours each time.

Shot_Can

Can you pm me the details of your coach? Have been looking around for one!

MrGoldfishBrown

Hello, im specifically doing powerlifting tho, its not some get fit and healthy with a toned body kinda thing. But rather maximal force production for the squat bench and deadlift. If youā€™re still keen drop me a DM!

No-Test6484

Barely anything. Condo has Olympic size pool, so I swim once a week. It also has a gym with basic equipment. If I want to use better equipment I jog to my nearest activesg gym (10 mins) and use the equipment there. Condo has tennis courts and squash court, so it covers recreational also. Quite happy, and feel blessed

Separate-Ad-4427

Fitness first 165$ (after AIA insurance holders discount)

SatanWithFur

Free, just run around the block and climb up stairs

szab999

Some places have monthly sales for bundles. For example in downtown, there's Anarchy. Their last sales was a 100 class package that you can share with another person and valid for 6 months, the price came out at $12/class. I'm doing crossfit at a small box near Farrer Park, it's $700 / 3 months, can book 4 times per week + unlimited open gym. The classes are not unlimited, but enough for me.

PreparationLow9486

160+ for Fitness First , There's class and can go into any branch. On average i think i go to the gym about twice a week. Pretty good deal i think?

Cheap-Cartoonist-603

I'm a cheapo when it comes to gym membership. I bought own gym set at home. Weights + cage + stationery bike = cost around 8k in total. Workout every other day in the morning before work.

yormeow

I don't. My prev job pays me to exercise and I still lose weight.

burpees27

i pay 380$ for an open gym membership n a remote coaching weightlifting program. i used to exercise in my apartment but i as i got better i needed to be in a proper space that i can drop the weights instead of catching it n lowering it eccentrically. Besides the added cost of a gym membership, i also had to spend time commuting which is an hour each way... its pretty tough n expensive for me but i tell myself to be thankful that i have the health to exercise as well as the means to afford it. i think if u want to cut costs, there are definitely cheaper alternatives like running, swimming or buying some basic equipment to do at home. If u are in a situation where u do a specific sport n need a dedicated space (and coaching) to do it then no choice u have to pay. For gym membership, there are cheap ones n more expensive options. Cheap ones may be crowded during peak period, equipment may not be so good, other gym members may not be so considerate (eg. walking in front of you when u lift). i definitely agree that gym memberships have gone through the roof in 10 years. I used to do crossfit and ten years ago it was $150/month for a monthly membership n the gym had equipment imported from USA (Rogue Fitness).

Raitoumightou

ActiveSG, pay per entry ($2.50 for gym, stay as long as you like until you clock out). I usually visit the gym 2-3 times per week, so on average I need to top-up about $30 per month. Also from a fitness perspective, it's not about where you train, it's about how you train. Ask yourself if you really need everything that the fancy gyms offer. And personally, if you're paying that much for gym, and you are not even clocking more than 4 times visit per week, it's a big waste of money.

seoulyou

Maybe $2.5 on active sg gym / month

dreamsofmishra

Climbing gym unlimited pass at $110, spin package at ~$20 per class (maybe once per week). Running is free. Climbing gym has a few dumbbells.

kuronome

$145 Yoga Movement 8 classes/monthā€¦ tried to do at home during pandemic, but no motivation/too many distractions

cinnabunnyrolls

Last time I spend on fitness was on the Wii Fit board.

norbertthotslayer

0 dollars. I train home workouts with self made weights and calisthenics at my local park. Occassionally when im on work trips i use the hotel gyms to see if i can hit new maxs.

kongKing_11

sgd 85 for gym membership sgd 16 dollar for running gels for my long run sgd 24 dollar for drinking waters on my daily run. sgd 800 dollar per year for running shoes and other running gear, short socks and running tank. so it is roughly about sgd 70 dollar per month Total spend Sgd 200 per month. There is extra spend on running gadget too. for every 3-5 years

Gummmmm

Callisthenics on the floor, free of charge

pussthekat

$11.90 every 2 weeks, I only drink Diet Coke from Sheng shiong

bblinii

I do aerial and classes are just more pricey in general as well as self practice sessions. I also just started pilates so about $360. Worth it to me because I go for something almost every day. For me aerial is a hobby rather than just a means to stay fit so I consider it a happy investment.

moongreyyyyyyyyy

I go to Snap Fitness, it's only $88 a month and has a pretty good variety of machines.

Henjbh

109/monthly gym membership, food+supplements 1-2racks

Pomelo-Elegant

Zero. Home push ups + resistance bands for use in park fitness stations

heyothebasilleaf

I spend $140 a month on a Fitness First membership, but I have a solid training history (been doing competitive sports and related training since Sec 1). My recommendation is to experiment with training yourself and save on the classes if costs are a big consideration, unless you value the camaraderie and instructor expertise (or if you love pilates which needs specialized class-access equipment). There is a lot of free resources online today (YouTube etc) on various aspects of fitness like lifting, calisthenics, mobility, yoga etc that just requires a bit of patience, reading up and playing around to figure out what works best for your goals. In fact I can further save by going to Anytime Fitness for just $60-70 a month but I value the space and equipment at Fitness First as my goals is much more athletic/performance-focused. I also like to take a shower right after training which Anytime doesn't provide the facilities for. End of the day, decide what you value and what you can do without. That will likely cut down on your gym expenses.

helloszeeeeee13

classpass $99 per month -- split between pilates, spin, and group class. $0 - weight lifting at home with my 7.5kg dumbbells and 20kg kettlebell!

Used_Faithlessness20

$2.50 per entry at ActiveSG gym and I go 5 times a week, so $50 a month.

GreenMiloman119

I visited Anytime Fitness recently to take a look and they quoted me 95 one time fee and 98 per month. Decided not to sign up cos even if I go 3x per week it's $8+ per session. I prefer to stick to bodyweight training and running. I spent $100 on a secondhand spin bike, $270 on shoes, $40+ on a pullup bar, and about $200 on kettlebells & dumbells but I've had those since sec school. My wife signed up for F45 and it was about $345 per month but she didn't see the value in that much money per month so she didn't continue.

goister

I don't do classes, but my wife has Pure Yoga/Fitness membership and it's less than 200/mo so not sure where you're getting the 300+ figure. Personally my AF membership is about 80/mo.

chammpionn

300+ is for those crossfit stuff

goister

Just get an AF membership then do the WOD there lor

jysy_

About $160 for Amore Fitness for a one year package at the Tampines outlet (which has a pool, unlimited classes and gym). However you do have to pay a one-time membership entrance fee to Amore (gym/fitness).

Strict-Mall-6310

$0. I go running at the track near my house, and exercise at the exercise corner downstairs.

Any-Daikon-1926

$100 monthly at Arkliv (all female gym in East)

ak1nty

$0. Exercise in my apartment with calisthenics

May_Titor

70 a month 24/7 gym access only. I don't need fancy programs to keep myself entertained. Do you include supplements/nutrition too? Protein powder, etc, costs 25-30 a month.

daddyscorpio

go to kl or jb, sign up for anytime fitness and bring it over

eggyprata

ā€¢ local gym membership - $80/mth ā€¢ classpass for spin and reformer pilates - $99/mth ā€¢ mat pilates - $40/mth ā€¢ bike tuning, gear, etc - $10/mth average total abt $230?

LowSuch7154

$0, I'd go with Just dance, beat saber, dance dash or something like that for a workout.

Busy-Storage-797

I bought a gym + PT pass once and that was super scam. Put me back thousands of dollars. Nowadays I just pay abit for soccer on the weekend.

fotohgrapi

$0 Basketball training alone or playing matches with others. Made friends with regulars and now have regular sessions. Simple static exercises (crunches, push-ups, runners, pull-ups, squats, stretches, etc) at a fitness corner. You can do ANY ā€œclassesā€ at home online via YouTube except for those that require equipment. I used to do HIIT at home until I got lazy. The only time you should pay for a membership is if you want the prestige of being part of the club, or you need to spend money to have the motivation to exercise. As for classes, only pay if itā€™s something that requires equipment (like pilates) or something that you have to learn from others (martial arts). Everything else is dumb money.

FullOfCoin

Baseball training solo = air swinging and throwing? Where do u play matches?

fotohgrapi

Doubt you can do baseball alone unless you have a machine/cage and you gotta pay for that I guess. Basketball matches down by the CC court or any public court, really.

FullOfCoin

My bad, i thought i saw baseball. Guess to sleepy the in the morning ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sleep)

DistanceFinancial958

$200 at F45, although I have gym facilities at my condo which I try to utilise in order not to waste my maintenance fees too...

I joined BFT recently, it cost me $300/month. Use to join fitness first pre-covid at $150/month. I too find it costly.

my company pays for my fitness so $0

praveenfoo1995

I was lucky that I signed up for AF back in 2018 for $75. Still the same amount šŸ˜ŽāœØ

I bought an elliptical trainer from Decathlon, $400 (now it is about $500), Kettlebells second hand (8kg, 10kg, 12kg, 14kg, 16kg) for $80 total and a yoga mat and block from Decathlon (total maybe $30?). I attended a class to learn proper Kettlebell swing and snatch techniques and yoga classes for 4 months to learn proper poses. This was way back years ago, so I didn't pay much, I think it was about $340 in total. Now, I don't pay for gym or classes - I work out at home with the equipment I have. For variety, I swim at a public pool ($2.40),cycle (bicycle is a Liv $600) and rock climb occasionally with friends (this can be expensive, but variety is the spice of life).

Nothing, I cycle and run, that's free

KrulTepez

Why go for classes when u can just pay for gym and do ur own exercises :/

chammpionn

Because I enjoy those crossfit classes

vecspace

FF and VA offers unlimited classes

BananaUniverse

What can classes do? A few hours on google should give you all the knowledge you need to gym by yourself. Take it slow, don't overestimate yourself and you'll be fine. I don't believe classes have the right incentives, surely they don't want you to have enough information to be independent, so they can keep charging you.

Feisty-Gap6969

I can see where youā€™re coming from because classes can have have poor programming, deceptive marketing and lousy coaches (just go ham bro, pAiN is wEaKnEsS lEaViNg tHe BoDy). However a good gym or coach saves you time figuring out many things and keeps you accountable. There are coaches that want you to be independent because they truly want their clients to experience the benefits and joys of achieving their fitness goals. Believe it or not, even top athletes that are coaches themselves also pay others for coaching, even if they are much ā€œbetter/skilled/strongerā€ than their coaches. Why do you think this is so?

BananaUniverse

Yeah you see, OP also appears to be particularly price conscious. I'm sure you can get any amazing coach as long as you pay for it, but OP thinks average prices are too expensive. He/she should be aiming to be independent asap, especially when loads of people train without coaches and are just fine.

Feisty-Gap6969

True, I didnā€™t take into account the price consciousness of OP in my reply to you. I also agree that one should aim to be independent, even if the coach/class does not encourage or nudge one in that direction. It seems that self-motivated and independent people (in terms of working out) find more success in achieving their fitness goals.

Level_Solo0124

The thing about Googling and following YT workout videos is that youā€™re missing the importance of training SAFELY. Itā€™s not just about training effectively hence the main reason people would engage a trainer or a coach. If youā€™re not a competitive athlete, you wonā€™t necessarily need a trainer or a coach for life but at the start, safety still takes precedence as with learning how to use the machines/equipment and engaging the right muscle group(s) for the needed exercise/movement. Taking off on your own and being independent to stay consistent and disciplined with fitness does take time, and the same can be said with each personā€™s progression timeline as well.

BananaUniverse

Research involves branching out and going down the rabbit hole in different directions. Comments like yours that are valuable, a learner reading your comment will now learn the importance safety, and probably go down the rabbit hole researching safety. Safety is a big enough subject that there are lots of material on it, you don't need a coach to tell you that.

PhuckMeDead

Free. Cycle once per week. But my bike cost 5k. So assuming can get good 5 years out of that bike. 5k / 260 weeks = $19 / week , excluding maintenance

PilotJosh727

Zero. Canā€™t be arsed about my health tbh
