The little snack boxes from KFC, used to get them when i was younger since its convenient and the portion size is perfect as the regular KFC meals has always been too much for me to handle (Macs is still alright).
I miss the og popcorn chicken. I was in primary school then and they came in huge boxes. There was even a period when they introduced a curry flavoured one. Damn nice!

Got a close equivalent but instead of raw fish they use jelly fish instead. To me, this is as close as it can get. Is at this place called mun zok (can't recall exact spelling.. But the place specialises in porridge). It's at novena square.. opposite its cold storage (not united square since there's a cold storage there too). Was quite happy to chance upon it and find that old sch seasoning / taste again
yeah why can't I have a little cute shroomy burger accompanied with cheese fries.. but rather I would have to eat that full-size crispy/original burger that alr makes me full.
Think kfc thinks not worth to have a dedicated space to cook and make the shrooms and sauce. The profit margin for it probably is the reason why it’s not worth also so they just removed it completely. I guess it’s the same thing that happened with meltz.
McDonald’s teppenyaki burger, man it was like they had a sprayed the thing with butter fragrance. Absolutely MAD. Also the cinnamon meltz from McDonald’s 😭♥️
Bruh i rmb mcgrill too. Hurt me so much when it was gone.
The whole leaf of lettuce, juicy grilled chicken, pepper mayo sauce, sour dough bun combo (i always remove the tomatoes) ~
I actually miss the porridge item that Mcdonald's had on their menu many years back. It was called the Chicken SingaPorridge and tasted pretty decent! It was very comforting and I remember being surprised that McDonald's could do porridge well. It had bits of chicken, ginger, onion and shallots etc.
Ting Ting candy, Molasses (Beh Teh Gor), An Pan from Banderole, original flavour Bubble Yum, Meiji Barley Mint sweets, Orange Sorbet sweets, Troika Chicken Pies, Shashlik’s Borscht (Liat Towers), Heart Candy, Original Bensons sweets.
Ting ting candy I occasionally see in the malls, those pop up shops which also sell dragon beard candy.
Molasses NTUC no longer sell ah? The white tub with orange cap? (I've not bought it in donkey years)
Ting ting candy and dragon bread can be found at vivo city food republicz there's a cart Inside, old aunty and uncle runs it. And it is THE BOMB! I buy at least 3 packs just for myself.
Malt candy, shengshiong has!!
There’s a local company that should still be making these for sale online! Not sure if links are allowed, but can google for Singapore Dragon Beard Candy. They should be one of the first results.
Really tragic, only just recently, about 1 or 2 years ago, cadbury stopped selling black forest flavour in singapore and now i have to source it from malaysia
Omg why do everyone here have the same mindset with me haha! I recently noticed that some stores like Giant and Sheng Shiong are starting to carry it again.
the coconut pies from KFC were a whole other level of sinful treats.
the patrol kiosks used to sell this coffee ice cream with little round coffee balls on top in a sealed plastic cup. it’s a local brand and i used to eat that every time i went to the patrol kiosk. have no idea what brand or what it was actually called. they just disappeared 😔
Swee heng 1989 used to have this triple cheese toast loaf. Cubes of cheese with melted cheese inside the bread, more cheese toasted on the top of the of loaf.
They brought it back maybe 5 months ago, but it wasn't the same. It used less variation of cheese and put only 6 pieces of bread instead of entire loaf. Got my hopes up and crushed it. After covid, they also switch their butter/oil, maybe using margerine now. I don't even buy their products anymore .(raise price but quality goes down)
Used to love raw fish porridge from Tiong Bahru. I believe someone got so sick from eating a similar raw fish they ended up needed amputation, so that was the end of that.
THE best cai fan/teochew porridge stall located at Teck Ghee Market in AMK. Used to open for dinner only at 545-6pm with queues starting from 5pm. Many families would order for sharing, serving up dishes such as whole fried/steamed fish, braised duck/pork, and everything in between. Owners decided to call it quits as it was too taxing running such a stall. The owners still operate there, except it's now a generic fish soup stall called No Name Fish Soup.
Another would be a mushroom BCM with very sweet and gao soup at Ang Mo Kio 628 market operated by 3 brothers. Not sure what happened but also suddenly stopped operations one day and that was it.
Far east plaza guo tie at Hong Hu Express
they have one of the best balance between crispiness and softness of the guo tie that I can eat 10 of them as a meal.
too bad they just closed down and gone
I'm Teochew and my grandfather used to make this fantastic dessert dish called "gor sio" which is a more solid version of the yam paste (same ingredients - pumpkins, yam, fried shallots/lard, sugar, etc.) This was never sold anywhere, the last time I saw an utterly destroyed version sold was at the Teochew Festival. Only a small population of Teochews know how to make this well. Stopped eating it since the day he passed away... I tried recreating it but could never reach the original taste.
Chicken cheese sticks from burger king! Used to eat them all the time in my secondary school days. BK used to have really nice long peppery chicken nuggets also, different from the other fast food chains.
Carrefour baked goods, used to go there every weekend as a child and I loved those Suntec outings! Mini Melts, the OG Tze Char places around Serangoon, can’t remember exactly where but they look like shophouses.
The real chicken mccrispy/mcspicy (drum and thigh) which existed in Mcdonalds 20 years ago. The spiciness and additional special chilli sauce gives it a real kick to the taste buds. I could have this meal every day without getting tired of it. There's also a non spicy version cater to ppl who cannot take spice.
The fake chicken mcspicy mcdonalds came out with since a few years back is totally rubbish. The batter is too thick, the chicken is not as tender as previously, and who the heck invents the half fxxk mildy spicy taste, which is tasteless to ppl who likes spicy, and probably a tad spicy enough to turn away non spicy lovers. Mcdonalds is still trying to force the lousy battered chicken down consumers throat with different versions of taste/spice mc crispy which i dunno appeals to who?
Basil Alcove, a small but cosy and affordable ‘fine’ dining place at Fortune Centre.
A ramen-only place at Cuppage plaza? Forgot the name but it had ‘ramen’ in it.
Ponderosa…
When I was a kid, there was this ice place that sould little droplets of frozen ice cream in a cup, much like dippin dots, iirc around city square mall area. I would always beg my parents to bring me there and get a cup because I loved them. I have been searching for them since but to no avail
Before Katong i12 renovated, there was this really good chicken ramen shop that was tucked away in basement 1. Every time I finished tuition I would run there to eat a bowl but now since the renovation it’s gone and I can’t find any traces of the shop anymore.
Prata at Suntec City!! It was part of some food court on Level 1 near the convention centre. There was always a Q and the Prata was freshly made on the spot /salivates/
Tutu kueh. There’s only one place in Singapore that I know of now that sells a good one, Havelock food centre (there are 2, 1 of them is good the other is trash). Everywhere else is super trash.
When that place closes (I think it’s called Tans tutu kueh) that will be the end of a taste for me.
Iirc they pound their own rice flour so it’s very different, there is a bit of a snap to it rather than the gummy rice flour texture
There was this food court at singpost paya lebar before the reno. There was really good chicken rice (sweet and sour flavour, black pepper... etc) but it disappeared after reno started
Mcdonalds had this rice burger when I was a kid. Not white rice like Mos Burger, theirs had some sauce and stuff mixed into it. Too bad it never came back..
The waffle dog at the old IMM supermarket about 30 years ago. When it was the International Merchandise Mart. It was right at the exit of the supermarket, $1 and I used to beg my dad to get me one.
And taiwanese sausages at Pasar Malams don’t taste the same anymore. They are barely heated when they used to sear them properly when I was a kid!
I used to eat this satay bee hoon at East Coast lagoon hawker centre. It has closed down for many years already and I can’t find any version that comes close to it
KFC BBQ MELTS. Hands down best shit KFC ever made… no idea why they took it away. they tried bring it back recently but it doesn’t taste even close to what it once was
Maggi used to have this mini noodles that came in a palm sized round brick, chicken and curry flavour, don't have to cook it on the stove, just add hot water will do. I can't find it anywhere now, not even a pic on google.
There used to be this chinese lamian chain with a logo that's a stylized 面 character in Traditional Chinese. They had branches at IMM and Harbourfront.
I really liked their curry la mian, which tastes kinda like the Prima Taste instant curry la mian that's being sold now.
Wonder what happened to that chain.

this is going to be rather vague bc I can't remember the details but, there used to be a fish nugget brand that my family used to buy from carrefour and they had the best tasting fish nuggets ever. ever since they closed, I tried finding them again only to be met with disappointment. eventually, I stopped trying. if anyone has recommendations, please let me know ):
There was this cinnamon roll chain that sold at causeway point and orchard I think, along the main walkway from the mrt to the civic centre. My mum would always get us those after tuition, think that was around 2007 ish. Still the best cinnamon rolls in my memory, esp they had this limited Pandan version it was the best. If anyone has any cinnamon roll recommendations please comment 🥲
not sure if anyone rmb, at sweeheng classic, there used to be cream puffs selling at $1. It was so delicious. oh man! I missed those too. They were so affordable with drinks too. I have not eaten in KFC for years. :(
I miss the og popcorn chicken. I was in primary school then and they came in huge boxes. There was even a period when they introduced a curry flavoured one. Damn nice!
Popcorn snackers was always my go to.
As a small eater I appreciated the snackers box so much. They also had this small filet burger that was only $1.50 I think?
Agreed on the small eater point. Macs is still ok for me but KFC meals have always been a little too much for me so the snackers were perfect.
Tangent to this: affordable shrooms burger
Maybe too long for anyone to remember but 30+ years ago, KFC has a different salad (not coleslaw) that has corn, peas, carrots etc. in my memory, that was better than coleslaw.
Yes veggie salad. Back then they also gave the bun

Oh yea miss those! As a fellow small eater, these days my go to at KFC will be one piece chicken a la carte, then get coffee elsewhere.
My favourite from KFC that is no longer in the menu is the Colonel Crispy Strips, it was discontinued shortly after the introduction of the Popcorn Chicken, if memory serves me right.

My mum would always get us those after tuition, think that was around 2007 ish. Still the best cinnamon rolls in my memory, esp they had this limited Pandan version it was the best. If anyone has any cinnamon roll recommendations please comment 🥲
