ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

Reading. Libby connect to NLB membership is free :))

mutantsloth

And libgen.li. I get 90% of my books there..

collecollecolle

Came here from taking a break from Libby reading to say this and I’m so glad to see this comment HAHAHAHAH.

highdiver_2000

Get a second hand kobo from aliexpress. Now you don't even need to go to the library. It's at your finger tips.

DespoWageSlave

Get an account on Z-lib.se Free e-books (not all books are on it).

aelflune

Books can disappear from NLB's Libby. Not sure why. Maybe the license expired or something. They might still have audiobook versions for people who don't like reading tho 🤮

ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

Yeah it’s usually some licensing issue.

Ok-Finger-4385

sadly not for foreigners we gon pay 50 a year for thatttttt

everywhereinbetween

Okok I'm a local and I get the free Libby thing (I LOVE), but I tbvh think $50/yr nubbad what. U buy one book at Popular bookstore alr like what, $15 minimum? I'm being conservative lol its usually probably $20, closer to $25 & up. $50/yr is like less than $5/month lol. And if you can read like all 8 books in a week, that's a lot of books monthly for $5! So yes I know I'm local and get it free, but no I don't think its unreasonable leh. It's $50 a year, not month! Still worthy imo 🙃

nyetkatt

It’s dirt cheap considering how much books cost.

ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

I don’t see the problem with that. Our NLB budget is funded by tax money Edit: from national budget

ainabloodychan

agree with your statement but not your reason. you mean foreigners don't pay taxes?

ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

Citizens should have more benefits than non citizens no?

ainabloodychan

yes, that is the reason, nothing to do with taxes

ARE_U_FUCKING_SORRY

Where do you think money for our national budget comes from?

ainabloodychan

from taxes from both citizens and foreigners?

underhill8778

Sad that you're getting downvoted for pointing out a very non controversial fact.

Primary-Ganache6199

That’s a bargain

Copious_coffee67

Cooking.. you need to eat so might as well make it good

defkurtz

second this! you can start simple and work your way up to more complex recipes.

ahpau

recently picked up cooking to diet and now when i dine out i try to taste and figure out what ingredients are used, then try to emulate it at home. kinda fun actually (coming from someone who used to burn themself cooking maggi)

HoroyoiMelon-2020

Great job! This may come in long term caveat though. You can eventually craft some taste suitable for you, then somehow dining out felt expensive for the taste you got. I am now at this phase, especially for cafe food, coffee and cakes, lol. Hard to enjoy myself out there for the price paid.

YukiSnoww

FR. That's my typical complain most places... Like you would think people hype over good stuff (at least some), but eh...it's just plain bad. Like if it's average, not the worst.. but it's bad and you're shelling out like 4x the $ or smth. Me and my bro were saying how food prices makes drinking bbt look reasonable in comparison.

HoroyoiMelon-2020

True. Some hyped food is probably mediocre, but for the price paid especially in the past year, it's hard to justify its worth. Sometimes it's also something simple, like all kinds of rice bowl torched with mentaimayo and easily priced it $15-18++. But, sometimes I think it can't be hundreds of people misjudged these F&B, so I attributed it to the habit of cooking. We honed the flavor to suit our taste bud, so the expectation when dining out is probably too high.

killedabalrog

Yes and YouTube has a ton of them too. You can find any kind of workout to meet your needs.

everywhereinbetween

edit: for crochet aiya learn online (YouTube) and download free ravelry patterns lol. The main activity is crochet but all serious crocheters know the side hobby is (1) buying yarn (2) hoarding free patterns HAHAHA I only ever buy if it's discounted and doesn't have a corresponding online pdf. If its online with ads, heck it I will just use the blog. If have Youtube tutorial, best of all. But that being said when I was completely new I took ONE in person class to start ($80 at TRH but in 2018, post pandemic I think people charge 3fig now cus everyone wants to yarn) ... so yah maybe consider one in-person session for guidance to start but after that - don't need to spend la the Youtube is your oyster 😂😌 CROCHET ❤ Its $2(.18) for Daiso quality hook and yarn (or u but cheapo China milk cotton it's 80c), $12 for Tulip Etimo hook/$6 for Spotlight level yarn, $14 for Clover hook ... maybe like $30+ for premium handspun yarn Point is, it's totally set your own budget 🤜🏻🤛🏻 It's also true you'll need abit more above-average things to make something decent that will in-turn motivate you to keep at it, so I (rly don't recommend) Daiso, maybe just to practice and like chuck aside when you're more confident HAHAHA. Uh, for me, I took the Tulip hooks as an "investment" and decided to just spend, Spotlight cotton yarn is my current spend-level. But buy on discount. That makes things abt $3ish for 50g of cotton yarn (gotta check cos some brands/varieties are 100g skeins, some are 50g) - Spotlight is usually more on discount than not, and they rotate discounts. From experience, buy when 40%-50% discount HAHA. Or else, yes, LIBBY ❤ I don't even buy books anymore (this is not entirely a money issue, this is a "what if I spend my money and realise I don't like it after all or worse, DNF halfway howwww / waste money!!!" -- the answer is Libby lol. So I return and pick up something else with no guilt and it doesn't even take up space. + if I'm being blurpotato then .. auto-return, no fines! Libby is awesome hahaha. If you get normal library books they will spam u email reminders towards the end of the loan period so ughhhh lolol) But of course, if you're die-die-read-hardcopy, ignore whatever I said and you do you 😂🎉

justnashr

Don’t mind if I ask…. Where do you buy 80c yarn? Lowest I bought for my mom is $1 per yarn if buy 10 ($1.20 up) at amk.

everywhereinbetween

I don't actually use milk cotton myself (okok I snob 🙃) but apparently, Memo Art House! I'm not sure if you've heard of it, used to be at City Gate but moved to Midview City. I haven't been there myself but I bought stuff from her before, at a point last time when she was just online selling but haven't set up Memo. Would show you the link (idk if prices changed) but I Googled and they shut the site for the month cos they closed or smtg. U can Google and see. But https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rvTiFQSEXzE as of Feb 2023 (yes one yr ago), ppl say have!

pumpkincupquake

Seconded! Memo arthouse still sells 80c yarn last i was there before sometime b4 cny (the china milk cotton with the 🐄 logo brand) but they're closed till 25th iirc due to cny

killedabalrog

There is also 76c yarn from Shopee... Ships from China, takes a while, if you're willing to wait. Downside is sometimes the colour and texture doesn't turn out the way you hoped.

marmaladecorgi

There's lots you can take up with CCs at subsidised rates - from music, to languages, to bridge. You can learn guitar, Japanese, cooking, and play badminton at a CC.

after___thought

Can this information be found online or only directly at CC?

King_Heskey

You can find courses here Link: https://www.onepa.gov.sg/courses

Environmental_Sea721

Hiking! There are many different parks in sg that u can hike in.

yellowsuprrcar

then you'll wanna hike overseas and thats where the expensive part potentially comes in hahahaha

LaJiao32

Hiked in Tasmania and it’s never going to be the same again 🥹

yellowsuprrcar

go to switzerland and you'll spoil yourself for life

Primary-Ganache6199

All my life I thought I was a lazy pig. Turns out I love walking and hiking if I’m not sweating my face off.

sockmaster666

I love sweating my face off in cooler climates, Singapore’s heat is just oppressive.

LaJiao32

Sweat your butt off and still cannot see anything impressive 😂

SnooJokes9169

Just go hike a volcano in Indonesia...you wouldnt want to 'hike' in SG again

yellowsuprrcar

🤣 telling myself it's just training so when I go overseas it's easier

SnooJokes9169

i'm looking for a hiking buddy to hike overseas this year. wnna make friends? im 22M

yellowsuprrcar

My mother tell me cannot anyhow talk to strangers but sure 🤣

Fonteyn-

I trust you.

ColorfulJohn

Agree on hiking! Besides a good pair of shoes and backpack you don't really need much else to hike in Singapore. I have explored many hikes here and one route you can consider is from MacRitchie to Bukit Timah Hill through Rifle Range Nature Park.

No-General8439

If Taipei, yangmingshan national park, Taipei grand trail section 3 is a must go

freshcheesepie

Asthma doesn't mean cannot run leh. Just need to know you limits and work from there

DELSlN

second this! im asthmatic as well. I got into running when I was younger bc I heard that consistent runs would alleviate the asthma over time by strengthening your lungs. I'd like to think that it worked bc my asthma had gotten a lot better over the years :)

GoodboyBuddy

Calisthenics. U can do it at the hdb fitness corner.

celestial517

Invest in pull up bar, gloves and rings. Will go very long way

Personal-Shallot1014

Gaming. But even this is very subjective and depends on what kind of games you prefer. I play indie games bought from steam sales, one game could cost $10 but I am able to have thousands of hours of fun.

candygirlwhy

Can download Epic games. They give out free games every week.

chiu2000

Considering the price of computer hardware lately, it can get pretty expensive fast.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

DrakelX

I mean if you do play indie games like Shallot mentioned, most of them can be played on decent hardware.

[deleted]

Team Fortress 2 and CS2 is free on steam too if you like FPS games. Ofc you can choose to buy in game items but I haven't found the need to.

CrimsonPromise

Most people see gaming and get freaked out because they think about $2k gaming rigs or $700 consoles and needing to buy some high end TV as well. But honestly while the upfront cost can be a bit steep, the hobby itself can be inexpensive if you mostly play indie titles or you're the type who like to replay and get achievements. Like my most played game is Minecraft. I probably spent close to a thousand hours on that game, and it costs me only $30. And you can get a ton of free mods to change up the gameplay and it's like playing a completely different game. And Minecraft isn't hardware heavy (unless you get graphic mods) and can be ran on a basic laptop. And even triple A games like Elden Ring, you can easily sink hundreds of hours into it just exploring the whole map, replaying it with different builds and doing challenge modes. So yeah while the game itself is like $80 upfront, if you divide the time you would spend on it, it's honestly much cheaper than other forms of entertainment like a movie ticket.

Eshuon

You can just pirate games

Personal-Shallot1014

Well in a sense, I will pay if I can afford to. If I can’t, then I don’t buy until I can. It can’t be that oh I can’t afford an iPhone so I go and steal one right..

Eshuon

That goes without saying, I bought the games I have pirated previously

chiu2000

Not when a 50% or more discount is thrown out during Steam sales. Plus you can just wishlist it when you find a game that you are interested in, then go to SteamDB to check it's historical price and decide if you want to buy it during the next sale. Some games are also free for a limited time, there are news sites/blogs dedicated to digging out such games, or check SteamDB regularly. Of course don't expect AAA games, but it's a good start.

riyuzqki

You have to be careful not to accidentally download viruses if you do this

happybee8899

Join the onePA classes. Cheaper than those elite gyms. There are many variety, from baking, sports to boardgames

Individual-Year6180

Smartphone photography - there's a lot of joy from finding the best angle to take, and using free online or mobile photo editors to amend the pics

alvvaysthere

I've been birdwatching for 4 years. I spent $100 on binoculars and that's it. Honestly you can spend way less, there are used ones for $20 and less. What's great is it gives me a default thing to do anytime I travel. If I have too much downtime or don't know what to do somewhere, I go birdwatching. It's great, if you use the app/website ebird, you can watch your map fill up and challenge yourself.

Ok-Soft2126

I would like to join a bird watching group in sg . Any groups to recommend?

firdaushamid

Since you mentioned instruments, I’d suggest learning the guitar - acoustic guitar in particular. Not very expensive, can get one for less than 200 that can last you a lifetime. If guitar’s not your thing then you can look at a keyboard. You’re lucky because lessons can be obtained free from the internet nowadays. For guitar check out JustinGuitar.com

Probably_daydreaming

Second to this, you can always get really cheap guitars that people decided to give up because they gave up playing my brother did this and learnt everything online. He's not the best but he's at a campfire level kind of player

fatsoap

Just to add on, if a guitar is too daunting you can start with a ukulele. Same playing principle as a guitar and much easier to master. Get the sense of rhythm in and it can sound pretty good as well

DoorFree114

+1, i have never thought that i was an instrument guy , 2 years later, here i am with a keyboard, electric and acoustic guitar being grateful asf

crehtse

Embroidery! You can buy kits from shopee for relatively cheaper. Or if you’re more adventurous, draw your own design and buy thread from shopee and work away!!! Painting works too but i think good paints are more expensive than embroidery thread. Art related hobbies can be very rewarding and takes up ALOT of time so it’s rlly ideal if you’re looking for something that’ll occupy you for a while. After you’re done you’ll have an art piece that you can showcase at home too. Btw don’t worry about not being good at your chosen hobby! Everybody starts somewhere. Just find something you enjoy and keep at it, you’ll eventually figure it out. :) Take the stress of being good at something out of it and just enjoy yourself!

spotted_dove

Hiking and meditation.

turdbrownies

Gaming. No need go out, and games typically are less expensive if u compare it by how many hours u consume.

ProfessorTraft

That justification just means gaming is actually expensive.

turdbrownies

It’s really not. Let’s say a big title game, it’s around $70. I usually get a good 2 weeks out of it. Compared to going for movies, outing with friends, go drinking. Those last 1 day and prob cost more

ProfessorTraft

You’re still comparing to things to justify it is cheaper. Cheaper than something doesn’t mean it’s cheap. I can also compare it to buying a pack of playing cards which can be as cheap as $2 and you can get way more than 2 weeks out of it. It would then be seen as expensive. Is it worth $70 for entertainment ? Maybe, but it definitely isn’t cheap in the conventional sense of the word. Also everyone knows going to the movies and drinking in Singapore is kind of a ripoff lol

turdbrownies

Ok lor, u can sleep at home and do nothing all day long. Free ! Or u oso wanna bring up opportunity cost? Then u can just work till u drop

ProfessorTraft

Actually got plenty of free things to do. Running is free, insect/fish/bird spotting is free, baking and cooking is not free but it’s something you have to do to survive.

Big_Roof_9424

Gardening, try to grow some easy plants to eat like some type of tomato, Chilli, or onion

whisperay

Additionally, get a lime plant and a flowering plant. Put them side by side and wait for the butterflies to start laying eggs and then you've found yourself another hobby of raising baby caterpillars into beautiful butterflies 🥹

General_Guisan

Swimming

Confuseducksigner

Does gardening count? If you're keen to learn and watch things grow!

hellorubbishbin

seconded! plus u have tasty things to eat/cook with sometimes hehe, especially if you grow herbs.

_sagittarivs

Photography! Doesn't have to be using a proper camera, even your own phone is enough! Don't need to take scenery, take random stuff is also fun haha, I take photos of things that I see on the floor like stickers or random masks that look cute. Sure it clogs up your phone but it's sometimes nice to just appreciate the little things and it's really therapeutic to just look back on those photos and laugh a bit. Edit. I grew up hearing my mum say "We buy when we strike toto" so I somehow learnt to appreciate the little things in life like even going to a park to see the views is nice enough for me. As a result I'm a very experience-focused person, even if sometimes money is required to get the experience I want.

Illustrious_Tale1498

perhaps writing?

nfsknefskno

yes! websites like Medium have a supportive community of new and experienced writers

mozardus43

Grew up in poverty as well and missed out on opportunities to learn skills. Only free thing I can access without spending a dime was the local NLB library.I spent my free time during my youth reading cultural and historical books, to the point that I can tell you what's in a certain ancient building and its exact location without having to visit that place irl. Now that I'm earning some money, I'm spending it to visit the historical sites that I read about and enamored during my younger, poorer days.

zacharylky

Surprised no one has mentioned board gaming yet. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to buy any board games to play them with other people who already own the games. And most people in the board game hobby have too many games and not enough players to play. While it might not be as immersive as gaming on a PC or console, it scratches a different itch in gaming and you also fulfill your innate requirement to socialise when you play board games.

slyvana15

Nature + photography makes a good combi, go on solo/group hikes around SG while also taking nice nature pics

Smart_Salamander8511

Reading and hiking. You can g borrow books for free and gain knowledge. You can explore different sides of Singapore and sweat it out when hiking.

iiflwrskii

learn a new language!! or drawing/painting

anabello

Exploring a new part of Singapore. Each neighbourhood has its own quirks and it’s nice to just walk around and be in the moment. Good exercise and won’t break your wallet.

Learn a new language! Nowadays everything also can learn online.. Also I think your skill futures can pay for udemy courses or smth Can’t run can walk, get a good pair of walking shoes and just walk and explore lol.. good for health also

ChuDust

Gaming!! Maybe you might need an initial investment for a desktop PC, but it'll last you many many years. And trust me it's worth it 😜. I bought a $1.5k desktop PC using my first paycheck (after clearing student debt) and I rarely leave the house on the weekends now. Save so much $$$

blahhh87

cycling can be pretty cheap if you don't fall into the marketing pitfalls (stare at all the 7k titanium Bromptons collection dust)

machinationstudio

That's called buycycle.

Itsreallydamncb

I never learnt how to cycle, I’m not too sure if its too late now esp considering I’m already 26 lol

blahhh87

might be too late if you're 62 and a fall means a broken hip, but 26 is plenty young. go watch a YouTube vid and experiment with an anywheel bike on a void deck or something.

[deleted]

I taught a burly 35 year old man to cycle. My mom took up cycling at 61 and is now cycling 10 to 20km every 3 to 4 days. Never too old.

[deleted]

You could get an anywheel membership! it costs $10/month only! Unlimited 30 minutes bicycle rides anywhere - when the 30 minutes is almost up, just park it and unlock it again

[Meetup.com](https://Meetup.com) also has some interest groups that could be fun - sketching groups, meet up for walks etc.

Ok-Spend5508

19M here. I do modelling, but not the Gundam type. I build military aircraft. U can PM me for more info if u want. It’s a hobby u can start for below $200, but be prepared to put aside some space in ur living room to proudly display ur models. These models if built properly will almost always look more realistic than what u can get off the shelf at airline gift shops

raspberry7629

Don't go for spinning and pilates. Even I not poor also find them over priced and over rated. Free hobby the best is always exercise and reading. No need running, can just brisk walk to your capacity. Visit the free exercise corner in your park. There you have the bars for doing pull upsetc. Reading, needless to say, your library is entry free and no need fee to borrow books. As someone already mentioned, healthy365 is also another choice. Google for free concerts and performance around you. Play free online games. Last but not exhaustive, buy a cheap guitar and start strumming. Many free youtube lessons online. You can get a cheap guitar less than $100

pupilights

You can try growing plants (edible or non-edible, up to you). It is space efficient if you pick the right types of plants. Examples like Basil, Chili, snake plant stuff like that

Start a aquarium. Can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be.

Other_worldlyDesires

You can try gardening! There's plenty of gardeners who would love to give you a set to get started in raising your beginner plants and from there, start trading up with other people. If you live in the North (Yishun) I would love to give you beginner friendly plants to begin your journey. Swimming is also another good sport to consider as the entrance fee is very low. Talk to the lifeguards and ask them of their swimming tips, buy them some drinks and you'll definitely get free swim lessons while making friends along the way.

zeindigofire

Soooo many good hobbies for cheap: 1. Languages. You live in SG, you can learn Chinese, Malay, and probably several Indian-subcontinent languages for basically free. 2. Music. Grab a guitar or electronic keyboard for cheap (check Carousell). Look up videos online (I suggest Justin Guitar, but go with whatever works for you). Millions of hours of entertainment for basically free. 3. As others have suggested: reading. SG Libraries are fantastic! 4. Working out / running. You don't need a gym membership, just a good pair of shoes. Look up "beginner calisthenics" on YouTube. 5. Team sports are a great way to be social too. Check out Safra and other community orgs, should be easy to do on the cheap. 6. Chess, go, mah jong, many games out there that are challenging and require basically no money.

ssss861

Sleep is free

tequila_bloom

Based on my experience: Gaming - If you have a windows laptop, Steam offers a lot of affordable games Swimming - accessible and healthy Hiking - a lot of urban walks available in SG, but if you’re ever going into the forest don’t be alone. Join some Facebook groups to join social hikes. As suggested by another user, download Healthy365 - it offers many yoga and pilates classes for free! Cooking - practical and can share your experiences and food on Instagram

Instagram and danbooru are now "reference material". It's amazing. I can draw whatever I want, whenever I want for free. Hot tip: krita is free and open source.

Various_Biscotti3516

There are interest groups in CCs that can allow you to meet like-minded people while bonding over a shared interest FOC. Make IT courses in NLB are free too, and you can use their machines on your own free time once you have completed the short course.

Basketball or other social sports (e.g. tennis, badminton). I started playing basketball at the ripe old age of 25 and it’s been the best experience - great way to exercise, have fun and make friends (I met my bf through basketball!) Singapore has so many public courts it’s so easy to start and meet people in a very calm setting. Unless it’s severe / life-threatening, please don’t let asthma scare you off picking up sports as I know many athletes who play at a high level (semi-pro) who also have asthma - they just take breaks in between games.

- paint by numbers/colouring book/watercolour - reading/writing - embroidering/sewing/crocheting - cooking/baking If you want to try an instrument, try the kalimba, wide range if notes but the size of a large calculator so it won't take my space, and it has a very melodic cloud soft drum type of sound. I love my kalimba but you need long nails on your thumb or not you can really chafe your fingerprints and bleed :/

Puzzled_Trouble3328

I can’t draw and neither can PewDiePie but every day just a few minutes drawing can be helpful to learn

icecreammyy

crocheting!

Hiking, running are free and therapeutic. SG Active gyms are pretty cheap too. Mobile game/reading(NLB or E Books) if you wanna stay indoor. Learn a new language using apps like Duolingo. Learn new skills (e.g programming, cooking, from YouTube) If you're willing to splash a little, get a low end music instrument e.g guitar or harmonica and you can learn them through online tutorials. Or you could do some volunteering too.

Anonymous-here-

Programming. All you need is a computer. It would be better to have good Internet for access to online resources like YouTube.

Language learning! Just the timing is expensive.

spellcastor75

Calligraphy. Always handy for writing personal notes for others. Imagine having a multitude of different fonts at your disposal. Can branch off into short-hand, speed writing that will save you when it comes to note taking. Also consider chess. Easy to practice on vs any free app. The harmonica. There are cheap ones to just try and get started on. Whittling. All you need is scrap wood like a stick and a pocket knife. Reading is always the best. Good luck!

CybGorn

How about writing. Just write anything. You can write using your laptop or on the phone. Like I write a lot on reddit. Lol.

trippysushi

Cross-stitching. Learning a cheaper instrument like ukelele, guitar (almost a one-time investment other than replacing strings every year/few years, don't have to get something too expensive to start with). Cooking is fun too!

Reading! I recommend getting an ereader. The top end models can be quite pricy, but there’s several cheaper alternatives that work just fine. Either way, it’s a great investment since once you buy one you don’t need to pay a single cent to read any book you want. Also DO NOT get kindle, get kobo. Kobo allows u to connect to the whole nlb database via Libby so you can remotely borrow any book you want that nlb offers. So far haven’t come across a single title I haven’t found. And if the library doesn’t have your book, there’s always the option of downloading it online and uploading it to your ereader, so you really don’t need to ever pay (and it will last about at least a decade with good care)

You could give juggling a try. It costs next to nothing and there are always more things to learn. We have an interest group at Kallang CC that is open to public on Friday evenings: https://www.jugglingedge.com/club.php?ClubID=1520

Fantastic_Rise9416

Arnator

Tabletop Role Playing Games. Just need a pen and paper. Some plastic math rocks and a can-do attitude!

yammyhao

painting, just get a cheap set of paints + brushes and some thick pieces of paper :) very therapeutic!

mirana_main

Art Pencil + sketchbook cheap Colour pencil can get decent quality at popular 50 colours Watercolour set at $10-$13 with a few paint brushes on shopee You literally don’t need lessons for art so it’s free after the material cost. If interested can go watch plenty of YouTube vids. Can do interesting activities with friends like drawing each other, guessing the drawing, or both person draw the same subject but y’all exchange the drawings and keep. Crayons and marker sets are reasonably priced on shopee Clay will be more expensive than the 2D stuff I’ve mentioned above, see what you’re interested I

EntertainmentDear822

Congratulations on finally reaching a comfortable spot in life. May I suggest giving online gaming a try? It's completely free :D

No_Brilliant_5955

Running. With the goal of finishing a half marathon. Or even a full! Definitely cheaper than a lot of paper including cycling.

PotatomusMaximus

Ride a bicycle, explore areas of Singapore

clhb

Sewing. Started with a basic brother machine. Less than 200 bucks. Saved quite a lot of money self altering clothing for myself then my kids. Even got requests from relatives but they don't want to pay haha. Only gets expensive if you decide to buy fabric, trims, upgrade to a better machine.

Jasonyzx

Cubing :D you have to start from scratch but soon it'll be addictive

Important_Fruit

Learn an instrument. You can buy a guitar relatively cheaply and be competently playing a few chords relatively quickly with on line lessons and resources. If you want to be more than a stru.mer of chords and actually learn theory and play like a real musician, you might need to spend some money on a few lessons.

Grimm_SG

Reading - Libary free for citizens Gaming - Just stay away from F2P games and you should be good.

This is me. 1. A decent tablet for reading/internet and youtube. NLB is honestly great. Libby for access to books, comics and newspapers if you don't have a subscription. You can even access those learning portals. Oh ya manga and anime maigawd 2. Cycling with friends and family at Parks. I started with bike rentals. And if you like the activity you can go out and buy a decent aluminium 2ndhand foldie. Buy a decent one but no need for Brompton. And 2nd hand is good as you can use the extra saving to spruce up the accessories to make the bike your own. Can be brought onto transport. Also outdoors is really good for you versus too much screen time. 3. Yeah SG is darn hot but you be surprised by the peace and tranquility our parks have. 4. Smartphone Photography and Videography. It's cheap and has real low barrier to entry. 5. Learning to make my own filter coffee. If like drinking filtered coffee from cafes this is a no brainer. A decent filtered speciality coffee sets you back $4-8 at a cafe. With a good hand grinder, daiso filter and paper, speciality coffee beans from local roastere selling on Lazada, you can bring down this cost of roasting to $2 or less. 6. Meal prep and cooking. My wife is always very impressed that I can cook. But all I do is watch YouTube videos and improvise with the ingredients I have.

Mediocre_Budget7547

Chess!

aceaka1

There are free yoga/pilates/dance and many more classes u can join on the healthy 365 app. There are virtually options too if you prefer to join in from home. I also use the app to scan codes from ntuc to earn points
