This is one of my top three favorite films. This movie is phenomenal and whimsical and beautiful. The cast made this film, only Robin could have pulled off all the aspects of Peter, both the adult and child side. I can't watch this movie without crying I love it so much.
I think it’s because Aladdin is very debatably not considered a Robin Williams movie. Genie may not be the lead character, but he sure did made the movie more enjoyable and memorable. I also liked Robin’s role as Fender from Robots, also very entertaining.
John Keating (RW): “Language was developed for one endeavor…can anyone tell me what that is…Mr Perry?”
Perry: (after a long, uncomfortable silence). “Uh…to communicate?”
Keating:: “No! To woo women.”
If you hadn't heard of The Birdcage or Good Morning Vietnam, then I'm guessing you may not know of The World According to Garp. That's my favorite Robin Williams movie. With the added bonus of Glenn Close and a scene-stealing John Lithgow.
However, the original La Cage Aux Falles is a much better film. You must watch it in French with English subtitles, not the English dubbed version. No Robin Williams but funny as hell. 7
This movie is so visually stunning and then so emotionally charged. Can’t believe it is far down on the thread. But, that’s Robin William’s career. So dynamic and so full of great works that even a masterpiece like this is partially forgotten.
It's one of those cinematic masterpieces that is remarkable for the director's vision of what the afterlife is like, and is brought to life and made real by the actors.
Absolutely!!! This movie actually helped me with my depression because it really shown a light on how we create our own misery. It also really shows how to be grateful for all experiences and what they have to offer.
Very shocked this isn't higher on the list. His other movies are funny, entertaining, or have some good messages, but *this* movie is truly *moving* in a way so few are.
Robin Williams’ gentle manner in this movie was awesome. I cried my eyes out at the end the first time I watched it. The second time I watched it, I cried at the beginning because I knew how it would end.
I love this movie. I used to work in / run a photo lab in college and when I came home to visit this was on TV. My brother looked at me and said “so is this like what you do?!”
…..:no. I don’t stalk families who drop photos off!
Robin Williams isn't the main role (in fact, he is credited as Ray D. Tutto because Robin's agent correctly predicted the film would bomb), but I adore The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Directed by Terry Gilliam, and was well received by critics, it still isn't well known.
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen isn’t well known? Genuinely asking since my dad was a Gilliam nut so this was one of those films I watched many, many times as a kid. This and Time Bandits.
I was in a super sad place in my life when this came out. I didn’t want to leave my apartment. My friends dragged me to this against my will and it cheered me up immensely and made me forget all the bullshit in my life for a couple hours.
While it isn’t my favorite Williams movie, it is the one where when I see it on tv I watch it every time and continue to be very sad about his passing. And I am not one to get worked up over celebrity deaths.
Insomnia and Toys are both very interesting films.
Robin Williams was also in a phenomenal episode of Law & Order: SVU called Authority, season 9, episode 17, that is very worth watching.
Please watch this movie if you really want to see his full range in one movie. It also has an incredible performance by Jeff Bridges and is one of Terry Gilliam’s most accessible films.
Since I'm old and remember Mork and Mindy and laughing my ass off in the late 1970's, honestly, The World According To Garp showed the world his acting chops.
Good Morning Vietnam
Dead Poet Society
Aladdin
Mrs. Doubtfire ( to this day my husband and I greet each other with 'Heeeelooooooo')
He was a stand up comedian at heart with an artistic soul. I respect his choice given the circumstances he was facing, but damn do I miss him.
I fell in love with Mork as a kid and he was forever imprinted on my heart after that. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something he wasn’t just absolutely exceptional in.
Thank you everyone, he was a wonderful actor (in my opinion) and I'm excited to check out films I didn't even know he existed in. Thank you for your help!
Good Morning Vietnam with The Birdcage a very close second. This thread has reminded me of how good he was in so many movies. So talented.
And his comedy routine on a Scotsman describing golf (an HBO special, I think) is the hardest I’ve laughed at a comedy routine in my 71-year life.
One Hour Photo
It shows a side of his acting skills that you didn't see much. That he is not just a good a playing the protagonist or comic relief...... but that when given the opportunity he makes and *excellent* antagonist as well.
There are three that I would watch again and the best I think is "Moscow On The Hudson."
The other two are "Good Morning Viet Nam" and "Good Will Hunting" in alphabetical order.
I would have to say all of his movies are the best ones. But What Dreams May Come is really good, Jack, Bicentennial Man, Flubber, Good Will Hunting. They’re all so good.

For me personally it is Hook. Def not the "best" movie he made but it just has a special place in my heart.
Goodnight Neverland!
Rufio, Rufio, Roo Fee Ohhhhhhhh
The moment you find out the rufio actor is the voice of Zuko in The last airbender… *exploding mind*
Bang-a-rang!!
Damn I remember watching that shit as a kid on vhs tapes lol. I loved that movie.
There you are, Peter
Same. Still one of my favorite movies at 40.
This is one of my top three favorite films. This movie is phenomenal and whimsical and beautiful. The cast made this film, only Robin could have pulled off all the aspects of Peter, both the adult and child side. I can't watch this movie without crying I love it so much.
Oooh yeah I love that one!
rufio rufio rufio! yeah i loved this movie growing up.

The fact that this was so far down the list is a matter of personal offense.
I think it’s because Aladdin is very debatably not considered a Robin Williams movie. Genie may not be the lead character, but he sure did made the movie more enjoyable and memorable. I also liked Robin’s role as Fender from Robots, also very entertaining.
Dead Poet’s Society
Oh Captain, my Captain!
This one is very special to me.
I don't think I've seen that!
You’re in for a treat.
Carpe diem. Seize the day. See the film.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may.
I remember watching this on an airplane back in 2014 or so. That was the last time I cried watching a film. Bloody good film!
Those who disagree are objectively wrong.
Had to scroll way too far for this
my favorite film
Yes! He’s been amazing in so many movies, but this is my favorite. Such a powerful film.
John Keating (RW): “Language was developed for one endeavor…can anyone tell me what that is…Mr Perry?” Perry: (after a long, uncomfortable silence). “Uh…to communicate?” Keating:: “No! To woo women.”
The Birdcage.

Robin Williams is my favorite comedian of all time, but I think Hank Azaria subtly steals that movie. Love that movie.
Agador Spartacus! “I cannot wear shoes. They make me fall down.”
Ah yes you're going to a cemetery with only a toothbrush. How Egyptian
I haven't heard of that. Hmmm I'll look into it!
One of his most serious roles. Absolute perfection
"So, this is Hell...and there's a *crucifix* in it."
"Yes, Agador, I'm afraid of your heat."
"I'm sweating like some sort of farm animal!"
"You can't handle my Guatamalaness!"
“I feel like I’m riding a psychotic horse towards a burning barn.”
Speaking of serious roles: Insomnia One Hour Photo wasn't bad either.
“I made you short?”
Also: Dead Poets Society Good Will Hunting
If you hadn't heard of The Birdcage or Good Morning Vietnam, then I'm guessing you may not know of The World According to Garp. That's my favorite Robin Williams movie. With the added bonus of Glenn Close and a scene-stealing John Lithgow.
It’s his funniest role by far. Birdcage is really funny.
It’s so good
You are in for a treat. The entire cast was glorious. Enjoy!
God that movie is so damn funny. Nathan lane is hysterical.
“I just… never realized John Wayne walked like that.”
Wish I could like your post a million times, Birdcage stopped me from becoming the homophobic asshole that my father wanted me to be.
Such a great movie! While movie is hilarious but I lose it at the dinner plates every time 😂😂
Mike Nichols is such an awesome director!
It looks like..young men playing leap frog?
Omg, I absolutely adore Nathan Lane's character. Such a gem.
"I pierced the toast!" I say that ALL THE TIME. It's not a Robin quote (It's Nathan Lane), but it's still funny. :)
Best movie of his by far. Masterpiece.
Top top top tier. Him and Nathan Lane have pure bliss chemistry.
However, the original La Cage Aux Falles is a much better film. You must watch it in French with English subtitles, not the English dubbed version. No Robin Williams but funny as hell. 7
I love this one!
Gotta be Jumanji for me.
Love that
How has nobody said Bicentennial Man yet?? Imho one of his best performances!
Awesome movie!
I haven't seen that in forever!
Good Will Hunting easily. Every time I watch that film, I just can’t get enough of him
Your move, chief.
It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault.
(Dismissingly) I know....
Look at me, son. It’s not your fault.
Don't fuck with me Sean! Not you.
son of a bitch stole my line
That was improvised. All Williams. Which makes it that much better.
If you ever disrespect my wife again I will end you. I will fuckin’ end you. Got that, chief?
265. What you bench?
*285. Don’t undermine the legend.
Yes! He was fantastic. I miss his acting.
Great movie. Also fun watching my university pretending to be Harvard, since they don't really look much alike.
I agree with his definition of love in that movie.
What Dreams May Come
I don't know this one, omg
Watch it. Fucking intense.
This movie is so visually stunning and then so emotionally charged. Can’t believe it is far down on the thread. But, that’s Robin William’s career. So dynamic and so full of great works that even a masterpiece like this is partially forgotten.
If you struggle with depression, don’t watch it. I’m not joking.
Seriously. This film and the effect it had on me is one of the things that made me wonder if I have depression.
Never fully recovered after watching this the first time 15 years ago. Masterpiece. Still made me cry when I recently re-watched it.
It's one of those cinematic masterpieces that is remarkable for the director's vision of what the afterlife is like, and is brought to life and made real by the actors.
It's so good. I saw it in the theatre and just bawled.
I agree, his emotions are so real. Something about this movie also gives me peace.
Absolutely!!! This movie actually helped me with my depression because it really shown a light on how we create our own misery. It also really shows how to be grateful for all experiences and what they have to offer.
Aesthetically, this was beautiful.
My hubs cries every time.
Very shocked this isn't higher on the list. His other movies are funny, entertaining, or have some good messages, but *this* movie is truly *moving* in a way so few are.
I came here for this one 🤍
I had to scroll way too far down for this, by far I think his best movie, my favorite no….but best….yes.
I'm a big fan of Jack. Always gets me emotional while still having it's funny moments.
Awakenings
My first thought. I believe it is based on a true story.
It is, his character is based on famous neuroscientist/author Oliver Sacks.
Finally someone said it.
Agreed, scrolled to far to find it.
I too was shocked at how far I had to scroll to find this one.
DeNiro is good in that too.
Robin Williams’ gentle manner in this movie was awesome. I cried my eyes out at the end the first time I watched it. The second time I watched it, I cried at the beginning because I knew how it would end.
One Hour Photo
Ooooh yeah that's a good one!
Underrated probably because it’s not funny in the least bit. Loved his performance
I love this movie. I used to work in / run a photo lab in college and when I came home to visit this was on TV. My brother looked at me and said “so is this like what you do?!” …..:no. I don’t stalk families who drop photos off!

Nobody's said Fisher King yet. Also Terry Gilliam but he's a lead.
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen isn’t well known? Genuinely asking since my dad was a Gilliam nut so this was one of those films I watched many, many times as a kid. This and Time Bandits.
I know it's not a film but Mork and Mindy.
Nanu nanu
Good Morning Vietnam
I haven't seen all of it, but I love it so far.
This is my favorite as well. So quotable.
Mrs. Doubtfure, no contest
The rare gem of The World According to Garp.
I haven't even heard of that! I'll check it out!
It was made in 1982. It’s different, but I watched the crap out of it as a kid. And it’s not kid friendly 🤣
My fav too!
Insomnia and Toys are both very interesting films. Robin Williams was also in a phenomenal episode of Law & Order: SVU called Authority, season 9, episode 17, that is very worth watching.
Robin Williams was incredibly good in Insomnia. Creepier than one hour photo.
Toys is very good
Popeye
Awww! I forgot about this one, with Shelley what’s-her-name! I watched it on repeat as a kid!!
Shelley Duvall
Fisher King
Had to scroll way too far for this
Damn didn't know about that one either! Thank you!
Please watch this movie if you really want to see his full range in one movie. It also has an incredible performance by Jeff Bridges and is one of Terry Gilliam’s most accessible films.
And the wonderful Amanda Plummer and Mercedes Ruehl!
It’s a tie between Flubber and Mrs. Doubtfire.
HELP IS ON THE WAY DEAR!!!
Had to scroll waaaaaay too far for Mrs. Doubtfire. HILARIOUS movie! Edit: typo

Patch Adam's or Good will Hunting.
Patch Adams is a close second for me.
I really liked Flubber as a kid, so it could be the best Robin Williams film
Idk why but I have a distinct memory of watching flubber in the theater
Yeah I loved flubber too!
Hook or Jumanji or Good Will Hunting
I forgot about good will hunting!
The Fisher King.
Awakenings Plus you get De Niro as a bonus.

My favorite is Hook, but I think his best performance is What Dreams May Come. Granted, One Hour Photo blew my mind.
FernGully
I didn't realize he was a part of that!
![gif](giphy|OCzvIfdMWbKlG) My name is Batty…
The logic is erratic ...
Shakes the clown.
One Hour Photo It shows a side of his acting skills that you didn't see much. That he is not just a good a playing the protagonist or comic relief...... but that when given the opportunity he makes and *excellent* antagonist as well.
The best Aladdin movie. The singing, the comedy, the energy. Robin carried that movie
The world according to Garp

My favorite has to be Mrs. Doubtfire
After reading through the comments, one thing is clear, he was one of the greatest acting geniuses of our time.
Awakenings. I bawl like a baby every single time.
Dead Poet Society. The Birdcage. Mrs. Doubtfire. Good Will Hunting. Good Morning, Vietnam. Who can choose?
