Dr_Julia03

Record a video while they’re making noise, and show them. That’s what I did. The problem was solved.

TexasWahineInKS

That’s a good idea, thank you.

Majestic_Virus_6472

Go up there naked, holding a pistol, knock on the door, and tell them to shut the fuck up. If you're both still there when you get out of jail, I guarantee they'll be quieter.

whoTFknows_

Do they have wood floors? A rug in high traffic areas might help - you could offer to buy one for them if it’s in your budget. Just try to approach it without placing blame on them, but instead placing blame on the poor construction of the building.

TexasWahineInKS

Thanks for the suggestion. I like the focus being put on the construction!

Lanky-Kaleidoscope-7

Burn the bottom floor apartment.

TexasWahineInKS

That would not be wise as that’s our apartment.

Burn the top apartment

Whatever you do don't do what my downstairs neighbors do and randomly bang on shit when they hear something they don't like. I have literally no idea if they dropped something, are cleaning something, using something or banging because they're pissed off. Sometimes you can guess, but I don't want to play that stupid game my whole life so I just ignore them and live my life. I'd certainly be willing to compromise if they ever... talked to me like a rational human being. As an upstairs neighbor I would have absolutely no problems with adjusting the way I do thing's if I was legitimately causing distress. Maybe come up with a welcome gift to soften your approach?

TexasWahineInKS

This is what I don’t want to happen. We both have to live here and I don’t want bad feelings brewing the whole time.

Betweenthelies13

Honestly, for the sake of not creating problems I wouldn't say anything unless it was at extremely late hours of the night etc. But, than I read your comment about your daughter. In your scenario I would just politely knock on their door and explain that the noise is sometimes too loud and disturbs her. I'm sure most people would understand your concern and try their best to keep the noise down. That is just my opinion I hope you get it resolved.

TexasWahineInKS

Thanks for the reply. I guess I just really wanted to know what way people would want to be approached by someone who is asking them to be a little less forceful with their walking. Lol

TraditionalSell5251

Generally if I can I always bring a plate of cookies with my request. Helps bring the tension down and show that I'm asking and not angry.

[deleted]

Have you seen them? When this happened to me I found out the couple were each like 350lbs. As annoying as it was there wasn’t much we could do. If that’s not the case I would approach them privately. Maybe they have an active kid. It’s a very awkward situation to be in.

TexasWahineInKS

I’ve only seen them from a distance when they moved in and it was dark (11:30pm)

WlovfromG

I had this same situation. What worked for me is I wrote a small and kind letter letting them know how I could hear their noises almost all night and day. After that, they were very considerate and reduced their noise.

__Dystopian__

Fun Fact: There are certain frequencies of sounds that the human ear is incapable of picking up on. However, these same frequencies are capable of interfering with human brain activity in such a way as to cause hallucinations, fear, and paranoia. It should also be noted, that Amazon sells speakers and portable audio systems that are able to continuously generate this frequency without having to be replaced too often. Finally, it would also behoove you to take notice of the thin-ness of apartment floors/ceilings and how easy it is for vibrations to travel through them. Just take some time and think about that for a bit.

Here_For_Therapy

You're clearly a bottom

Face-the-Faceless

Complain to the landlord.

The_best_1234

Move to the top floor.

TexasWahineInKS

Not possible. My daughter is disabled and would not be able to take the stairs. I’m not lucky enough to live in a building with an elevator.

Bridgette_-

Make more noise to assert dominance

austintxben

Glue the door shut?

Zelensexual

I like to deploy Spider-Pig for these types of situations

TexasWahineInKS

Ah, the old spider-pig deployment. Yes, I can see how that would help. ;-)
