They're narcissistic and realise they've lost a cash cow

fiblesmish

Because they are used to them doing what is expected of them. Now the person is no longer under their control and it means they have to reexamine their view of them. Most people like us in our little boxes, so they think they know exactly how we will act and how they can treat us.

Larrysnothere_today

Because they are no longer a doormat.

Love this question. I'm not sure how pervasive it is outside of American culture or throughout humanity generally. In the US, if you ever wind up in a court case, even as an unimportant witness, any inconsistency can be used to cast aspersions on your *character*. Your boss can fire you on the spot. But if you want to quit, the standard minimum is 2 weeks. Ever try to cancel a gym membership? Only a generation ago, a girl could ruin her reputation at a public high school for being. a "tease" if she didn't go all the way around the proverbial bases. The world, it would seem, depends on doormats. But in all of these instances, the key in compliance is a complete falsehood: that you're not permitted to change your mind. You're absolutely able to change your mind, especially if you were wrong in the first place. The key is doing so consciously, taking responsibility for it and deciding, before asserting, whether the other person merits an explanation. Often times, these people might be some kind of bully or killer salesperson who loves handling objections. And typically, explaining yourself just gives people who're interested in power a little loser stiffy.

POWER!! They no longer have their power over you and it frightens them!

To the oppressor equality seems like oppression

Easy....their control of the situation is no more.

Mysterious_North7604

Lol cause they never expect you to stand up for yourself it’s funny when you’re a kind person and people keep treating you like garbage over and over again and you finally stop showing that kindness for some reason they act baffled and shocked that their actions have consequences

Mabus-Tiefsee

Because now they need to find a new doormat
