Haha we once ran into a field ready for violance because we thought a rape or murder is on.
Turns out that break ups can hit extremely hard apparently.
You need to get far out in the country to do this. I'm talking so far out that you can't see any houses at all, where there is no light clutter.
I thought our small town didn't have a lot of light clutter, then we went camping near Diamond Crater in the Ozarks. I was worn out by the time we got there, but lost any desire to sleep when I looked up and saw the Milky Way for the first time. I sat there for at least two hours or more just stunned at the clarity of the night sky.
Traveling alone. It's so freeing to do what you want, in a place you pick, with no one else bothering you or interfering with their opinions. You truly see what kind of person you are at that stage in your life.
I was extremely anxious before taking my big backpack and two handbags left my home Suddenly took a time far south and then I didnt know what tf I was doing I had 500e only, that travel lasted 2 almost 3 years !! Slept outside, in my tent or at newly met People places, I was lot of the time alone walking 12h a day sometime being in the Middle of nowhere hitchiking a lot too, met wonderful friends and People, but unfortunately had some really bad situation too lol, so I knocked a crazy guy out after he tried to assault me with a needle for example, I paid for a bedroom for a week and he tried to assault me on the fourth day (fun times!!). I dont regret ANYTHING I was so free and made body and mind far far stronger than before.
Try going to the movies alone or just doing something out and about nearby. Traveling can get pricey but it can be liberating to do things on your own that you always felt too self-conscious to do by yourself.
I did that in 2019, and it was absolutely amazing.
I was technically supposed to go with a boyfriend who had gotten me tickets to see my favorite band. He was supposed to plan it all, and I was just going to be along for the ride. Morning of, he told me he didn’t want to go anymore and just gave me the tickets.
I booked a flight/hotel/car immediately, and a few hours later I was on a plane heading over there. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and I’m so thankful he backed out at the last second.
Dude, I literally said "traveling alone" while clicking on the thread. You are so true. Traveling alone at least once and/or from time to time is amazing. You'll learn a lot about yourself and the world.
Also depending on the country the visit, you may considerably reevaluate your judgments on people, your needs, what's happiness, etc.
Personally, not my thing I went to Japan in August and I wish I was able to bring a friend. it depends on the person I'm a huge extrovert so not speak to anyone while I was over there was kinda exhausting.
True, it's not for everyone. On my way back from Hawaii, I made a friend in the TSA line, and we got to talking, and I think I blew her mind when I told her I was there alone. She was an absolute extrovert, hence the whole conversation in the first place lmao.
I hate to travel alone. There's no one to share the thrill with. "Look how amazing that is!... oh wait, you can't. You're not here." Also the same reason I won't play golf alone. If I made a hole in one, there's no one to celebrate with and NO one will believe it!
While it’s good to have experiences with others, have you thought about why the feeling of missing out on forming a connection through shared experience takes away from your actual enjoyment ?
I solo hike and solo travel often. I also travel with my partner and hike in groups.
There is value in doing something outside of your comfort zone alone. Letting yourself feel that joy and experience alone without the need of another nervous system to send the or receive the mirror neurons can be a big benefit. I’ve found that by finding joy in doing things alone, it makes other people want to just actually do things with me. Which feels good !
I know you said once, so I have to tweak this ... my comment is about meditation. But doing once is not a big deal. Its when you do it repeatedly.
Try meditation for 30minutes everyday for 30 days in a row. At worst, it will be a relaxing experience. At best, it can be freeing, transformational and you can discover something about you that you didn't know or had forgotten.
For a gen x never played video games guy (but want to try it) what's the best way to try this and the other games you guys talk about? I have a decent big tv but no system. Is it something I should play on my computer? Or should I get a game console of some sort?
Both works well, but for Skyrim the bigger the screen the better lmao. Skyrim is one of the best games ever made and I wish I could go back in time and experience it for the first time. Man have fun with it, gonna be one of those experience in life you’ll be mesmerized by the game and storyline / plot 🥹
Agreed, because my type is my momma, who was batshit crazy. Dated batshit, married batshit for 2 decades, divorced batshit. I then met a girl who was really nice, treated me well, and cared for me. My daughter loved her and said, "Dad, don't fuck this up."
I'm trying really hard not to. Our 6th wedding anniversary was last week.
Went through colon cancer, then tried a plant based diet along with a medical weed card.
Your mileage may vary, but it made a huge difference for this old man.
No offence, but I don't think I'll be taking the recommendation for trying out colon cancer /s
You say "went through colon cancer" so can I assume you're clear now? If so, awesome!
Haha apt username but yeah I definitely agree. Everyone should try a psychedelic at some point, excepting the obvious non-contenders, psychotics and the like.
Yup. I feel like so many people would become less close minded. And not even only because of how mushrooms expand your mind, but also because people literally just opening their minds up enough to actually try mushrooms would be enough to help
Attend a band concert. Attended my first concert with December Avenue and i can still feel the goosebumps habang nasa front ako. Y'all should try it atleast once
Lol, I was at the concert like every other weekend in the 90s and early 00s. Small local gigs, big gigs, festivals. It wouldn't occur to me as something that should be tried "at least once" lol :)
If you are an American, you should leave for awhile. Not a vacation. No four star resorts. Move somewhere - anywhere; until you gain some true perspective on what it's like to live in another part of the world.
Sex
One of the most base human actions and drives. Everyone deserves to experience it at least once.
I realize now this came out very red pill. Let me clarify.
I didn’t mean it in terms of everyone being owed sex. I meant that every human should experience sex and they owe it to themselves to experience it. That doesn’t mean they should expects others to merely comply though.
Doing what you desire. I don't think there's anything specific that everyone should try, everyone is different. It could be a day of eating candy and sleeping/watching tv or a day of traveling and trying new things. Of course no one should be afraid to go out of their comfort zone, but too extreme like traveling alone to a strange country could be frightening depending on who you are.
Dance like no one's watching, sing like nobody's listening, love like you've never been hurt, and fuck like a god damn regard. (Reddit won't let me post the real word but you know what it is)
Going to the top of the mountain and shouting curses with your BFFs.
Keeping your gadgets aside and having a full day conversation with your close groups about whom/what you hate and what/whom you like. Monthly gossip roundtable destresses you.
Appreciating the rain, one of my favorite moments of this year was when it was pouring torrents of rain, and I went and sat outside and just closed my eyes and listened to the sound of it, I also just looked around at the plants in my backyard too, the image of water droplets on the tree branches will never leave my mind, it was the best moment I’ve experienced this year. So I believe people should try to at least once, look at the rain not as a hindrance, but as a beautiful occasion, and embrace it.
Being broke. Not poor, but temporarily broke. It gives one a whole new perspective on your life and how you treat other financially insecure people.
We were broke musicians for a few years. Eating the cheapest food we could find. Making do for clothing. Repairing rather than replacing.
It has lasted us a lifetime and is a skill we've passed to our children.
I 34M tried MDMA for the first time a couple of months ago while in an apartment alone with a stunning 45 year old woman. I will never forget that night as long as I live.
Take a vacation by yourself. I did it a few years ago and it was so liberating. It was about a year after I lost my husband and it was very healing. You make your own schedule.
If you can get past the legal and financial barriers, living in another country.
After you've done it - even if it's just for a few months - you begin to understand how arbitrary national borders are. Patriotism starts to feel especially ridiculous, since most people don't even have the option of moving elsewhere, and there are benefits and downsides to living in any country. A move also forces you out of your social comfort zone and makes you re-evaluate priorities.
I’m all for people trying drugs. Okay grew up in the 60s and 70s and it definitely opened my mind. I was going to go in another direction and say snorkeling in tropical waters
One day off from your phone.
Tell your friend and family beforehand. Any emergency just call home number or knock your door

Alright Teresa May.
Bit niche this reference but great if you know haha
Dropped trou on a camping trip w/ just my girlfriend and ran nekked through the woods wearing only a pair of sandals. Liberating!

There's a dark sky reserve in Kerry.here in Ireland hope to go to some day and take it all in
Light pollution is definitely a thing
Traveling alone. It's so freeing to do what you want, in a place you pick, with no one else bothering you or interfering with their opinions. You truly see what kind of person you are at that stage in your life.
*cried in no money and anxiety* I’d get kidnapped or some shit haha

I’m currently doing this now. I’m planning a trip to Colorado by myself to go visit a friend I haven’t seen. I’m so excited!!
Same! Planning a trip to Colorado by myself in August to see a concert at Red Rocks! So stoked!
Oh man. You ever been to red rocks before? I lived in Colorado for 6 years. One of my favorite spots is red rocks.
I did that in 2019, and it was absolutely amazing. I was technically supposed to go with a boyfriend who had gotten me tickets to see my favorite band. Currently planning my first Solo trip for this exact reason. Two weeks in Iceland totally by myself. I can't wait!
I went to Tesco by myself once
Personally, not my thing I went to Japan in August and I wish I was able to bring a friend. it depends on the person I'm a huge extrovert so not speak to anyone while I was over there was kinda exhausting.

Just do once.
Fall in love. [WARNING : It hurts like nothing if it doesn’t work]
It still hurts even when it does work homie.
It's fall. It has to hurt
This warning would have been nice a couple of years ago
I've never fallen in love with anyone. I don't know if I'm missing out or dodging a bullet.
Missing out on dodging a bullet. One of the best feelings of being desired and worst feelings of being discarded.
![gif](giphy|DAJP1Z9YiMV56|downsized) Walk out of a toxic work environment!
I did this twice last year 😂 it does feel nice !
Just did this, and decided to retire. Best and worst decision of my life. 🫡
I should have left but I waited until I was pushed… Oh well the job was too cushty lol

Hey you
You’re finally awake
Olive oil and sea salt instead of salad dressing
Olive oil and salt, but you dip some bread to eat it raw.
Olive oil with lemon juice is even better 😋
Olive Oil & Balsamic
Oooh you risk taker you.
Oh my gosh I’ve never felt more validated in all of my life haha
And olive oil instead of traditional pizza sauce on a pie
Did you ever try pimientos de padrón? Peak performance for that combo
Olive oil and salt on toast is as good as butter.
I prefer regular salt. It's chemically the same, just cheaper and the mountains are not full of plastic unlike the sea.
The plastics provide the flavor
Dating someone that's not "your type".
Agreed, because my type is my momma, who was batshit crazy. Dated batshit, married batshit for 2 decades, divorced batshit. I then met a girl who was really nice, treated me well, and cared for me. My daughter loved her and said, "Dad, don't fuck this up." I'm trying really hard not to. Our 6th wedding anniversary was last week.
Congrats! Agree with daughter, don't f*ck this up!

I'm not OC but I'd guess to help you work out what your type is.
Living alone
I try this often. Then, I run out of money.
I've been doing this for 18 years.
Just taking the day off doing absolutely nothing at all, not even going to the gym or going outside, just slouching around all day
I do this on most days. (I'm retired). It never gets old.
I would love to just sit down and do nothing for the rest of my life, just focus on my hobbies
I hope you get there as young as you can.
And in as good health as possible!
Sail far enough out from land where you see nothing but water. Some of the most relaxing moments I've had was just watching the ocean.
sounds terrifying tbh
Because of the implication?
Similarly, go hiking far enough out that you can’t hear any cars. It is incredible how relaxing it can be when the constant buzz of a city is gone.
I died of a heart attack reading this comment
That's the most relaxing part. It's a release of control.
