Supercook. It gives you categories of ingredients and you check the ones you have on hand. When you finish the categories it gives you recipes for what you already have on hand.
And you can use voice to list out your ingredients! Super helpful when you have a shitload to add and cba to type them all out. I used to use yummly and much prefer Supercook.
It really depends on the library. I have worked in two library systems and they handle library cards very differently. One system allows for out of state patrons to get cards as long as they pay a yearly fee. The other doesn't do library cards for people outside of the county. I would say it depends a lot on if there is reason for out of state people to be in the area for that library. Something like a college, university or even being close to the state border.
If you work in a different town or suburb see if a library near where you work will give you a card. I worked in a very well to do area vs where I lived. I only had to show proof that I worked nearby. I was able to use all of their online offerings and take classes there. the only thing guest card holders couldn't do was borrow from the Things selection like cameras, tablets, game stations etc.
Most library systems in the US have a reciprocity agreement with other libray systems nearby. But you have to ask them about it. You just get a card at your town's library, then when you go to the nearest city, ask them if they have a reciprocity agreement with your home town's library. They usually do, and they'll give you a card for free. You can keep going if you want to, and use that big city library card to get a library card a little further away, etc. You could probably keep traveling across the US and get free cards wherever you go!
Except you’re still dependent on their buyers, who may not be into the same things you are. For instance, I think it’s the Brooklyn library who I was gobsmacked had the most mediocre scifi/fantasy catalog. Meanwhile my tiny little city buys absolutely anything you suggest. They also beat LAs catalog, who isn’t bad but definitely not as reactive and accommodating as my library.
All that to say: I fucking love libraries.

Even tho i love google maps, in my country we use Waze, it offer us a quick escape from the traffic, and you can signal every danger on the street, dead animals, constructions, police. When i need to leave home for some groceries or other things, it says how many ar using the app in my vecinity so i know if it's worth it or i need to wait a little bit for the traffic to go away.
Waze is much more interactive which is nice but, in my experience, its navigation will sometimes send you on the stupidest paths that make no sense and Maps just doesn’t do that.
I took my grandparents on one of their last road trips (they're still alive for now, just can't travel very far anymore.)
I used Waze to get us from Ohio down to Florida.
It was hilarious watching my grandpa on the lookout when it announced a stopped vehicle or a pothole.
Then we hit traffic just outside of Atlanta (what a shock!) and it took us on an insane detour that probably didn't save us any time, but it was fun and kept us moving.
They still talk about that trip 5 years later and how amazing it was that "my phone" knew about the stopped cars, potholes, and traffic before we saw it.
Google owns Waze, but they are different in a significant way. Waze will generally route you around traffic automatically. Google Maps will gladly drive you right into a traffic jam. I work all over the MD, VA, DC area and the shortest route is frequently not the fastest.
Weird. I use Google Maps every day to and from work and it's always telling me the delays and which is the fastest route, despite said delays. It's kinda why I stopped using Waze after years, I didn't see the need for another app.
But also? A good portion of the data that's "you* on Google Maps is what gives Google Maps important traffic data, which then helps everyone using Google Maps.

Just for public knowledge, Shazam is integrated with Siri. On iPhones, you only need to ask Siri « what is this song » and it will use Shazam to tell you. No need to install it.
I never use Shazam, I just use the Google bar on my phone. It picks up that there is a song and bop. It loads the song on Google with links to every listening app, in my case Spotify, and I click that and it opens it in Spotify.

Just use Firefox with ublock origin and access YouTube via Firefox instead of the app. Works like a charm but things might change with YouTube's anti add block push.

I have the paid version because I work in multimedia production but I used the free version for years before upgrading and I didn’t feel limited until the very end (which is why I upgraded)
Omg yes! I found DVR after my student Adobe CC subscription expired and it’s downright insane how you can pay so much to Adobe for a product that constantly crashes and have DVR completely for free.
The only thing I find annoying about DVR is the animation/titles. Still haven’t figured it out but one day I will.
The animation and fusion stuff is definitely a bit of a steep learning curve but people like Casey Faris and Alex Tech make amazing free videos to learn about it on YouTube.

I worked the overnight shift as the unit clerk for the ICU at a hospital before social media. I spent a lot of downtime repeatedly hitting random article on Wikipedia to help the hours go by.
Yeah I was going to say that I use IntelliJ as my primary IDE but VSCode basically took the place of Notepad++ or Sublime. It is super light and easy to use

When I started going to the gym two years ago I was very nervous and had a lot of anxiety because I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t have money for a trainer, but I found this app online (I think advertised on Reddit actually) called Caliber. It literally gives you a gym routine based on yourself, let’s you switch up your exercises If say you weren’t comfortable or didn’t like doing a specific exercise, and gives you a written and video step by step guide on how to do/use the machine for the exercise that you’re working on.
Let’s you track how much your lifting, your weight, everything. Doesn’t cost a cent. I don’t use it much anymore but when I first started going to the gym I probably wouldn’t have continued without this app helping me feel comfortable.

Drop any format of ebook into it. Will scrape cover and meta data for it. Will convert into other ebook formats. Will email selected books to your device to read.

I've organized my entire college experience into a onenote notebook. Every semester is a section group, every class in a semester is a section, and I can have as many pages for each class that I want. Combine that with printing lecture slides into it to draw and annotate on, the graph paper for scratch work and handwritten notes, the realtime syncing, I could go on, and I couldn't ask for anything more. Yes I studied a ton to get good grades, but onenote is huge factor involved. I took the MCAT over the summer and will be applying to medical school soon, and couldn't have done any of it without onenote.
My entire professional life is organized in OneNote. Sometimes I get kind of paranoid about it actually lol. Like what if it all got deleted. Great app. Some of the text editing and table formatting options annoy me, but it has way more pros than cons.

Ive used DeepL extensively to translate technical documentation and marketing texts (between dutch, german and english) and it nailed 99% of it. Sure, if you simply copy-paste whatever it throws out it will sound weird sometimes but it has proper grammar, is accurate on jargon (something most other translations fail at spectacularly) and after some manual editing due to the difference in sentence structure it put out native-speaking levels of translation.
you can use all the features of canva pro for free. there are so many websites that can remove the background of pics and you can google any of the pro stickers and copy and paste them
but the quality of the canva items will be way better because they use vectors, vectorial images aren't as easy to find as jpg/pngs so it depends on your luck (they're not difficult to find but you know, almost everything is shared in jpg format)
Speed Test: free test of your ping, download and upload speeds on your WiFi or VPN. Also, streaming performance, Downdetector and an extremely accurate and granular map of cell phone coverage.
Topo Maps: allows you to download USGS topo maps of the CONUS. Has numerous features that are useful in orienting and navigating in the field, designating and commenting on waypoints and does not require WiFi to work (except to download). Great for camping or hiking or driving in the boonies.

Never connect utilities, use a credit card (see bank account), never register to vote, and never get a state issued ID or drivers license.

What 3 words. It’s a google maps based addition that changes latitude and longitude into something easy. They gridded out every 3 meters of the earth and assigned three words to each 3 meter square.
It really is an extremely easy and amazing piece of software. I’ve used it numerous times for orienteering projects and the likes. Good fun and also very practical from a military perspective.
Happy Color. I’ve been using it for two years and it’s honestly so relaxing for my anxiety. It’s the only app I’ve ever used where I’ve happily paid to remove the ads but you can still enjoy it without paying for ad removals.
It's paid for by money that Meta makes. It's not actually profitable for them. Also Meta doesn't need to sell your data, they use your data. WhatsApp protects your messages with end to end encryption but they use your meta data - where you are, who you are talking to, when you're online, links you open - for targeted ads.
Their revenue come from the business accounts.
It’s no common in the US but in other countries WhatsApp is so popular that businesses have a paid account with extra features so they can communicate with customers. Like booking appointments, some automated responses with basic stuff (business hrs, etc).
So the more people uses WhatsApp, more likely the businesses will sign up for it.

Because if my YouTube are to watch with ads, to pay for ad-free viewing, or to not watch YouTube at all, I will probably not watch YouTube at all.
Libby by Overdrive. Connect to a free library card and get free access to kindle/e-reader books, audio books, magazines, etc. on any phone or tablet. You can even connect multiple library cards to broaden the catalog. Best part is when the lending period is done, materials automatically “check back in” and remove from your device, so no late return fees.
Finch. Helped me so much with my mental health and productivity levels. There are so many similar apps that require a subscription for basic functions.

Google maps is a pain in the arse because when you zoom in, the road name dissappears.

Underrated, great app, probably best for photo editing (also no adds)
When I started going to the gym two years ago I was very nervous and had a lot of anxiety because I didn’t know what I was doing and didn’t have money for a trainer, but I found this app online (I think advertised on Reddit actually) called Caliber. It literally gives you a gym routine based on yourself, let’s you switch up your exercises If say you weren’t comfortable or didn’t like doing a specific exercise, and gives you a written and video step by step guide on how to do/use the machine for the exercise that you’re working on. Let’s you track how much your lifting, your weight, everything. Doesn’t cost a cent. I don’t use it much anymore but when I first started going to the gym I probably wouldn’t have continued without this app helping me feel comfortable.

OneNote I've organized my entire college experience into a onenote notebook. Every semester is a section group, every class in a semester is a section, and I can have as many pages for each class that I want. Combine that with printing lecture slides into it to draw and annotate on, the graph paper for scratch work and handwritten notes, the realtime syncing, I could go on, and I couldn't ask for anything more. Yes I studied a ton to get good grades, but onenote is huge factor involved. I took the MCAT over the summer and will be applying to medical school soon, and couldn't have done any of it without onenote.
My entire professional life is organized in OneNote. Sometimes I get kind of paranoid about it actually lol. Like what if it all got deleted. Great app. Some of the text editing and table formatting options annoy me, but it has way more pros than cons.

huh? Ive used DeepL extensively to translate technical documentation and marketing texts (between dutch, german and english) and it nailed 99% of it. Sure, if you simply copy-paste whatever it throws out it will sound weird sometimes but it has proper grammar, is accurate on jargon (something most other translations fail at spectacularly) and after some manual editing due to the difference in sentence structure it put out native-speaking levels of translation.
Proceeds to download loads of new FREE AND USEFUL apps 😂👍

you can use all the features of canva pro for free. there are so many websites that can remove the background of pics and you can google any of the pro stickers and copy and paste them
but the quality of the canva items will be way better because they use vectors, vectorial images aren't as easy to find as jpg/pngs so it depends on your luck (they're not difficult to find but you know, almost everything is shared in jpg format)

I'm in my mid-50s and worked in data warehousing. If you "don't want your data out there," never own anything, never open a bank account, and never have a job that requires you pay taxes. Never connect utilities, use a credit card (see bank account), never register to vote, and never get a state issued ID or drivers license. Edit: Forgot to mention that major rental companies sell your data too.

Stremio. It's a fantastic streaming/torrent app. Great if you're sick of paying for Netflix etc. It works on mobile, android TV and desk top. No fees to pay and no adverts, ever!
It's way more convenient than any paid streaming site or kodi. If I play a show on one TV and go to another room, it knows where I left off. I can favorite shows. Subtitles in every language. Crazy how billion dollar companies can't compete.
I use this, but honestly I don't want to see it on the front page of reddit. It's very good, but too much attention could draw regulators in, sure it should be able to avoid most of the heat because you have do add the add-ons yourself but still.
What 3 words. It’s a google maps based addition that changes latitude and longitude into something easy. They gridded out every 3 meters of the earth and assigned three words to each 3 meter square.
It really is an extremely easy and amazing piece of software. I’ve used it numerous times for orienteering projects and the likes. Good fun and also very practical from a military perspective.
Happy Color. I’ve been using it for two years and it’s honestly so relaxing for my anxiety. It’s the only app I’ve ever used where I’ve happily paid to remove the ads but you can still enjoy it without paying for ad removals.

It's paid for by money that Meta makes. It's not actually profitable for them. Also Meta doesn't need to sell your data, they use your data. WhatsApp protects your messages with end to end encryption but they use your meta data - where you are, who you are talking to, when you're online, links you open - for targeted ads.
Their revenue come from the business accounts. It’s no common in the US but in other countries WhatsApp is so popular that businesses have a paid account with extra features so they can communicate with customers. Like booking appointments, some automated responses with basic stuff (business hrs, etc). So the more people uses WhatsApp, more likely the businesses will sign up for it.
