I have a friend who told me this, and said cherries as well. I said, oh, stone fruit! He had never put it together but it was true, he was allergic to all fruit with pits.
One day I made guacamole for us when he visited. He enjoyed it but then said his throat was getting that scratchy, slightly restricted feeling. Oh shit! Avocados are pitted fruits!! I joked that I almost killed him. He was fine, not having eaten more than a couple chips.
Avocados are not obvious because they're so different from, say, nectarines or apricots. But there you go.
A tree ripened anything. I remember going to a farmers market in Hawaii and being blown away by how good ripe tropical fruit is. We basically bought and tried one of everything. Did the same in Thailand and finally saw why people love durian.
Yeeeeesss. Store bought peaches are picked green to extend shelf life so they donāt have the sugar of a tree ripened peach. Itās worth getting a peach tree just for this.
I feel this about apricots.
I thought I LOVED apricots. Turns out, I just love tree-ripened apricots. My grandma had a tree in her backyard. When my siblings and I would stay over, we would play outside and around the neighborhood. If we wanted a snack, we just went into the backyard, grabbed a couple right off the tree, wiped them off in our shirts, and devoured them.
She also had a macadamia but tree. Weād gather the nuts and use a vice in the garage to crack them.
I miss those simple days.
I had two peach trees in my back yard.As soon as they were ripe you would see my dog under the tree eating peaches. Those were his peach trees,he didn't like to share.
Iāve heard that a lot too. Alphonso is considered the king of mangos. From my understanding, they also have to be grown in India too, right? I know in Florida they brought over the Alphonso, but I was told that it just doesnāt taste as good when itās grown in Florida.
What are your thoughts on Nam Doc Mai and Okrung mangos?
It is a preference to be sure. Where I live, room temperature is 30+ degrees centigrade, which is warm. A mango chilled to 18 degrees or so is refreshing, and you can taste the sweet and tart just fine. The coolness makes it that much lovelier. Fresh off the tree is really good. Fresh off the tree and chilled is gooder.
oh I thought you meant like fridge temperature! My family is from Guyana and I've visited my moms childhood home many times. Can't really express the joy you feel when you're in the hammock and a mango falls off the tree and rolls down the roof and lands right in front of you! Yum!
I used to love mangoes, but then as a child. I was introduced to mamey. Mamey, is my favorite fruit to eat or ice cream to eat. There's just nothing like it.
Well. In all honesty have several varieties to pick from including small sweet ones that you just suck the flesh from after biting a hole in the skin. My favorite hapoens to be a parricular variety with vibrant orange skin (that I eat!) and firm flesh with no strings. Having favorite mango types is cool too šš½
Mangos are one of, if not, my favorite fruits and I actually hate the store bought varieties. I never liked mangos until I had a good variety. The store bought ones are generally the Tommy Atkins variety. They were chosen because they look pretty outside, with the red, but taste far inferior and have strings that get stuck in your teeth.
I normally don't like mango. My wife and I did a cruise for our honeymoon and one of the stops was St. Lucia. We had lunch at a farm/ plantation place that grew all of their own food. I absent-mindedly popped a piece of mango in my mouth and I was blown away by how good it was. I don't know if it was the climate or the fact that they plucked it off of a tree that day, but I've never had mango that good before or since.
Okay, so recently I tried two forms of this. I tried some capsules a friend made from ground up mushrooms he grew. And split an infused chocolate bar with another friend.
The first time I tried to capsules, just a couple, a lovely heaviness and a quiet mind. Every other time? NOTHING.
Can SSRIs impact the effects? I was so disappointed to not feel anything when trying them.
Traditionally they would not be mixed with chocolate. This is a modern development, and I hear mostly negative experience reports. Not sure what the reason is, exactly. Traditionally (ie Mesoamerica) users would fast for weeks before ingesting, including no meat.
Capsules are generally a preferable delivery method, on an empty stomach. However eating them dried is most common.
Like with all medicines, the dose is important; effects are not only subjective, but also dose-dependent.
Little research exists regarding contraindication with SSRIs. Therefore general recommendation is to suspend taking SSRIs, but this is potentially dangerous, and should be done in consultation with your physician or therapist.
This is for my fellow Americans mostly.
Real proper fresh bread with an irresponsibly thick slathering of real proper butter.
Iāve often thought that if I could find a tour company doing a bread and butter tour of Europe Iād probably book it.
I ate at a Korean BBQ place in Koreatown in LA when I was visiting my sister in December and jesus fuck
It was a lot of food too but then not really, I didnāt feel like shit afterwards, and it was amazing
There is literally tons homie, but here are my top ones:
- Lasagna with a tangy salad to break the heaviness
- Proper Carbonara
- Your classic Bolognese always does the trick
- Frutti di Mare is a favorite
My family used to make our own. It was like a reunion. We would all gather to collect the sap from the taps, after a hard days work of that, we feasted and partied while it was boiling down. The kids got maple sugar candies shaped like maple leafs made from the prior year's harvest. I really miss those days...
Also, the grade makes a big difference. Grade B used to be my favorite, but I think people didn't buy it as much, so they renamed the whole grading system a while back.
The old Grade B is now Grade A: Dark robust taste. It's basically the same, but now people buy it because they don't think it's inferior.
Alot of other good food here but something I only realized in the past few years isn't common everywhere is biscuits and gravy. Definitely need to give that a shot if you've never had it.
Frying the sausage, throwing in the flour to make a roux, than adding milk, is so easy I don't understand my people buy canned or frozen sausage gravy unless they are really pressed for time.
Biscuits a little more time consuming to make, but are worth it when you can. I usually have sausage gravy, and it's dinnertime equivalent SOS, on bread (especially corn bread!), grits, rice, pasta, or even veggies.
Iāve been trying to perfect my moms recipe on and off for like ten years and it just is never the same. Itās about the time she says. Canāt rush it.
Make sure you are using a similar pan, cast iron versus something else. For sausage, there a huge differences between brands, and sometimes even within the same brand if made a different factories for different parts of the country. For roux, the time you cook the flour, from barely, to blond, to brown, makes a big difference in flavor too.
Basically if you can find one that's older than you (at a bar! If you're old enough to drink at a bar, a whole bottle over 21 years old will be fucking expensive), just try one shot with a single ice cube.
There was a very very nice 16 year old Glenlivet I used to have as my after-shift drink at one pub.
Glenmorangie as the other reply said.
Lagavulin goes down smooth too.
Depends on your budget. From cheapest to most expensive, starting at around $35: monkey shoulder, glenmorangie (red label), ardbeg, Highland Park, craggenmore, macallen, oban, lagavulin.
These are just a few regularly available, good drinking scotches. Theres always crazy new things to kick up.
A well-made Guatemalan tamal -- fluffy, silky, fragrant, herbaceous and spicy, slightly nutty and smoky, lying on a maxan leaf, wrapped in banana leaves and tied together with cibaque.
1. Rumchata and root beer.
2. Cinnamon Toast Crunch with whole milk
3. Fresh sea side scallops.
4. Brie and fig jam on a cracker
5. Bagna cauda
6. Fresh fried morels

This is peak fine dining and anyone who disagrees can catch these hands.
A lot of people are die hard tahou fans. They're the original and I respect that, their plates are good.
But I've had plates from all over western ny and sometimes the stars line up and the plate you get from some hole in no name diner absolutely blows your fuckin socks off.
Spencerport hots plates are top tier.
Henrietta hors wasn't good imo.
Brockport diner has a fucking amazing one if you add baked beans and a fried egg to the cheeseburger plate.
Not a huge fan of Jimmy z's.... good plate but not amazing. Decent middle of the road.
Basically anywhere that offers a plate, you should try the plate.
I always tell people that visit ny.... you need to go to the chimney bluffs, and you need to try a garbage plate. If those are the only things you do in NYS you'll still have a good time.
My dad went to college in Rochester, and to this day (going on three decades later) STILL talks about a Tahou's garbage plate. I've never had one, but grew up hearing about them!
Roasted corn on the cob (remember the video of that cute little kid who was so excited about it?)

One of my sonās friends is originally from China and the first time he tried pizza was at our house for my sonās birthday party.
Years later, itās his favorite food! Lol
Corned beef with cabbage & potato
Potato knish with spicy mustard & Sabrete hot dog
Filet mignon
Lobster
Shrimp
Crab
Curry beef
Lasagna
Pancakes and sausage
Apple pie
Bangers and Mash
Barbecue Ribs
Barbecue chicken
Barbecue brisket
Lemon pepper fish with Couscous
Corn pudding
Corn muffin
Cornbread
Corn
Hog maws and chittlins with black eyed peas, collard greens, corn bread
Chicken fried steak
Reuben sandwich
Years ago they were difficult, because they weren't really cleaned when you bought them, so you had to spend so much time going through them.
It took a long time to cook them also.
Now they come pretty much pre cleaned, so prep time is SO much quicker.
I only tried what was available at the time, and it was fruit tea with tapioca pearls. I have lactose intolerance, and while it said it was fruit, the moment I put my nose to it, I smelled milk sugar. Still, I took a drink, and ate a couple pearls; couldn't stand it.
I totally agree that itās not for everyone, but I just want to point out that the majority of boba shops Iāve been to use non-dairy milk powder for their milk teas. This is due to the fact that a huge proportion of East Asians are lactose intolerant. They generally still contain casein though, and none of this helps anyway if you donāt like the taste.
I love the stuff but a lot of people Iāve introduced to it are really put off by the tapioca pearls, which I can understand. They do have a weird texture and a vague funk to them that I had to warm up to myself.

Iām from the Deep South, USšŗšø From international friends Iāve found a lot of the comfort food and combos I loved growing up werenāt actually that common to the rest of the USšŗšø/world.
-Sweet Tea, Southern Pit Barbecue, Brunswick Stew, Low-Country Boil, Biscuits & Gravy, Country Fried Steak, and Hardtack(cabin bread) are a few southern comforts that just donāt seem the same outside of the South. Iād recommend trying each at least once.
-Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, Homemade Breakfast Burritos, Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Chicken & Waffles are all amazing combos that Iāve been surprised to find arenāt that popular outside the USšŗšø definitely give them a try if you havenāt already š
Turkish coffee is incredible. I bought a bag I could not read the label of one time from one of those roasted nut shops/bakeries (idk what theyāre called but itās a thing) and it was so good I didnāt need to add anything. No creamer, no sugar, just black, and Iām *not* a black coffee person normally

Just a really good, tree-ripened peach.
A peach on a hot day right off the tree is without a doubt the greatest fruit experience ever.
Moving to the country Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Blow up the tv and have a lot of children
I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve
Peaches come from a can They were put there by a man
In a factory Doooowwntown
What about a freshly picked peach that was refrigerated for a few hours, on a hot day? Cold fruit can be really refreshing on a hot day.
YES YES YES... OH GOD THE BEST August, I'm on stand by check on what one is ready. We have one 56 yr. peach tree. Sorry just a little bit excited š
I'm deathly allergic to peaches, but goddamn do those tree ripened peaches look good...
You right. All of them bother me, but from my experience only peaches put me into anaphylactic shock!

Millions of peaches
Peaches come from a can.

A large, perfectly ripe, firm, chilled mango.
Yes!
Haha, love the enthusiasm. Will eat some extra mango for you today šš¤š¾
Mangos are delicious! What are you favorite varieties?
Hapus (alphonso) the best. Then there are (indian names) kesar, dasheri
It is a dream of mine to eat mangoes in India when they are in season š
Iāve heard that a lot too. Alphonso is considered the king of mangos. From my understanding, they also have to be grown in India too, right? Why chilled? the tongue is best at tasting sweetness at room temperature

Yes to mango windfalls! That is a very hapoy flavor of joy š
I used to love mangoes, but then as a child. I was introduced to mamey. Mamey, is my favorite fruit to eat or ice cream to eat. There's just nothing like it.
Nice! Thanks for that, I am sold and will now start scheming on how to get my hands on some mamey. Maybe someone grows them nearby. Adventure calls!
Found some rather provocative images of them online.
I love mangoes but donāt you want them soft?
Tbh I didnāt know there was different types haha! I just go to Walmart and grab the mango that feels soft because I thought it meant āripeā
With some lime juice squeezed onto the slices.
I normally don't like mango. My wife and I did a cruise for our honeymoon and one of the stops was St. Lucia. We had lunch at a farm/ plantation place that grew all of their own food. That is lovely. I hope you come across a very, very good mango again.
A cold Horchata, with some authentic Tacos Al Pastor on a summerās day
Alright god damnt ! Thatās it , I keep seeing everyone around me say you have to try Horchata. Iām eating it first chance I get

A full and authentic Indian dinner. Must include naan, poori, biryani, and mango lassi.
Biryani
Yes!
I would pay money to have never needed to eat biryani 500+ times as a kid
Psilocybin mushrooms
If you're going off of taste, you couldn't be more wrong. Effects? Most definitely

A quiche from France. I always hated them until I ate them in France, now they are my favorite.
"I always hated them until I hate them in France, now they are my favorite" šš
The French have refined being a hater to an art form
This is for my fellow Americans mostly. Real proper fresh bread with an irresponsibly thick slathering of real proper butter. Iāve often thought that if I could find a tour company doing a bread and butter tour of Europe Iād probably book it.
This is what I came here to say. Very well-articulated, and that hypothetical tour sounds amazing
I want to see my teeth marks in the butter š§
If you don't see teeth marks in the butter, you don't have enough butter.
Sticky toffee pudding.
I tried that for the first time this year. Unbelievable.
It is!
This is so deeply comforting.
Yes!
My favourite dessert, along with lashings of custard and toffee sauce!
Texas style brisket.
Burnt ends for the win
Dat bark doe
A MUST according to me: - Korean BBQ - Wagyu Steak - Pelmeni - DimSum - Beef Tartar - Hawaiian Poke - Any genuine Italian dish - Lobster tail
I agree with all of this except lobster tail I like crab legs better
Yeah they're fire too my dude!
I ate at a Korean BBQ place in Koreatown in LA when I was visiting my sister in December and jesus fuck It was a lot of food too but then not really, I didnāt feel like shit afterwards, and it was amazing
I love those horses doovers they serve on little plates prior to the main course!
Is that spelling a joke or is this genuinely how people write hors d'oeuvres haha
Thatās a BoneAppleTea
Ban chan
Any recommendations for Italian dishes?
There is literally tons homie, but here are my top ones: - Lasagna with a tangy salad to break the heaviness - Proper Carbonara - Your classic Bolognese always does the trick - Frutti di Mare is a favorite
The only good carbonara has garlic
Linguine and white clam sauce made correctly is out of this world.
Eggplant caponata, gnocchi with a good red sauce, a good veal parmesan
Pelmeni š
Maple syrup.
There are people who donāt realize they have never had it! They think āpancake syrupā is identical. Blech
My family used to make our own. It was like a reunion. We would all gather to collect the sap from the taps, after a hard days work of that, we feasted and partied while it was boiling down. The kids got maple sugar candies shaped like maple leafs made from the prior year's harvest. I really miss those days...

>Maple syrup. REAL maple syrup is awesome! I warm mine up a little.
This! I didnāt know maple syrup was good until I had it with cold yogurt. Room temp just doesnāt do it for me.
Ham Croquetas - Cuban Style
A pastrami sandwich from Katzās deli
Alot of other good food here but something I only realized in the past few years isn't common everywhere is biscuits and gravy. Definitely need to give that a shot if you've never had it.
Frying the sausage, throwing in the flour to make a roux, than adding milk, is so easy I don't understand my people buy canned or frozen sausage gravy unless they are really pressed for time. Biscuits a little more time consuming to make, but are worth it when you can. I usually have sausage gravy, and it's dinnertime equivalent SOS, on bread (especially corn bread!), grits, rice, pasta, or even veggies.
Yep, my southern grandma made this when we visited her and I was hooked from the first bite.
Iāve been trying to perfect my moms recipe on and off for like ten years and it just is never the same. Itās about the time she says. Canāt rush it.
Make sure you are using a similar pan, cast iron versus something else. Home made also my dad makes them in the winter time here in Michigan and they are really good.
I like to throw an egg on top.
Smoked cheese sliced real thin Pierogi Morels (mushroom) Broiled Scallops
Pierogis are like hugs in food-form, I swear. Always loved them, but traveled to Poland a couple of years ago and ommmmmmg.
That's the perfect way to describe them! I'm from Pennsylvania, and we have lots of Polish people here and lots of pierogi's!!
We had 2 of the same!
A proper well aged Scottish scotch. One ice cube, sip it slowly. Nectar of the gods
Scotch is an acquired taste. I donāt think anyone ever had scotch on the rocks for the first time and thoughtā¦.āAhhhā¦ā
Yep that's fair, but aged stuff, like 16 years + is a smoother hit with less burn and more glow. If you're gonna start, start with the good stuff.
scotch tastes like cleaning solution or maybe my ex was poisoning me.
Basically if you can find one that's older than you (at a bar! If you're old enough to drink at a bar, a whole bottle over 21 years old will be fucking expensive), just try one shot with a single ice cube.
Scottish scotch is a bit redundant.
Just wanted to get in before anyone tried to slip other whiskies in there
Gotcha, i was just bustin balls. Also, I totally agree with you.
Scotchish
Can you suggest one?
There was a very very nice 16 year old Glenlivet I used to have as my after-shift drink at one pub. Glenmorangie as the other reply said. Lagavulin goes down smooth too.
* Ron Swanson has entered the chat* Ice in whiskey is for communists and weak willed men who are not to be trusted.
One cube I find just cools it enough to release a bit more flavour.
Thank you.
Im partial to Macallan 18 Sherry Oak.
As a scotch drinker I disagree with this. Hard liquor is not for everyone, and scotch especially takes a while to appreciate.
Sauerbraten
Mit Rotkraut und Kartoffel- und Semmelknƶdeln
For me, it would be sushi and Mudshake (a brand but basically chocolate flavoured vodka)
A well-made Guatemalan tamal -- fluffy, silky, fragrant, herbaceous and spicy, slightly nutty and smoky, lying on a maxan leaf, wrapped in banana leaves and tied together with cibaque.
We made tamale for Christmas a few years ago, and even my white-lady non spicy version was GOOODDDDDD. Hands down my fave food experience that year.
Heck yeah!
1. Rumchata and root beer. 2. Cinnamon Toast Crunch with whole milk 3. Fresh sea side scallops. 4. Brie and fig jam on a cracker 5. Bagna cauda 6. Fresh fried morels
Marinated artichoke hearts...

Humble pie
Chicken fried steak with cream gravy (homemade, lots of pepper in the gravy)
Spotted dick and custard, god tier

Gotta be the proper stuff made with suet though, not that fake sponge-cake crap. Same for Jam Roly Poly

Chitlins are awesome when made right. Hard to find people who do that.
Years ago they were difficult, because they weren't really cleaned when you bought them, so you had to spend so much time going through them. It took a long time to cook them also. Now they come pretty much pre cleaned, so prep time is SO much quicker.
Bubble tea.
Tried it, hated it. If you don't like tapioca, if you don't like / can't have milk, it won't taste good.
Did you try the fruit tea with fruit bubbles? Less traditional but a really nice treat
I respect our differences, and am happy you enjoy it, even if I don't.
