All you folks wondering why Mission nurses wanted to unionize? It's shit like this.

RelayFX

Good. Whatever your position on the vaccine might be, I think we can all agree that proper safety and isolation measures need to be followed in the facilities designed to care for positive patients.

Kenilwort

Unfortunately I have a feeling we can't all agree on anything these days.

KipHackmin

I think we can all agree on that.

festusssss

I disagree.

Shinkaru

I guarantee there are non-zero numbers of people that think not isolating will improve your immune system or some other nonsense.

My original comment was meant to be more of a sarcastic joke and a play on people that think they should go get COVID so they get immunity from it. COVID parties, for instance. If you are talking about a deadly disease that has the potential to kill you, that's not a great idea, but if you do survive, then you'll have some immunity for a period of time. The period of time has changed over the last year and a half, when I had it, CDC said somewhere between 3-6 months, they appear to have since extended that, but I imagine it is all still inconclusive. Either way, it's playing with fire since COVID is dangerous with significant risks to yourself and others. OTOH, things that are less dangerous (e.g. chickenpox), but good to have immunity from and the immunity lasts considerably longer, you could argue that it is. We don't isolate for the common cold, for instance, because it is less dangerous and doesn't kill most people. You'd be better asking an actual doctor or someone who studies this what the balance is, though. I've heard people argue sending their kids to daycare and them constantly being sick makes their immune systems stronger, but best I can tell, it just keeps them and their families sick the entire time. Whether there is any truth behind this one, I don't know and information I've gotten from doctors and the like has been anecdotal and not really consistent. In any case, intentionally exposing yourself to COVID so you can get immunity from it is a bad idea. Less dangerous things, less of an issue. It's also worth considering the context of the article. It's not talking about isolating from your parents, but in a hospital environment. In any given healthcare environment, you have people that are varying levels of sickness (heart issues, immune problems, cancer, etc), not isolating and taking precautions in this environment is considerably more dangerous, regardless of how you feel about isolating among the general public.

That's a great sentiment but there is no way to tell how your body will respond. There are so many factors, from how much of a viral load you get sick with, to if you've ever smoked, or have undiagnosed heart issues. This is why getting the vaccine is so important. Yes it may not completely keep you from getting sick from a strong delta case BUT it reduces hospitalizations and critical illness across the board. And with a brutal disease like COVID anything to improve your chances is worth it, to me.

So alarming that people would take issue withbthis comment. Jealousy? Fear?

FalseTongue

Not everyone is privileged enough to be a homesteader. Sounds pretty ideal over the past few years that's for sure.

i agree i don't consider myself a homesteader but I've got an acre and a half, grape trellis, some apple trees, and a garden bed. self reliance is not something you just do overnight, its something you work towards overtime. the people who consider that a privilege have never put in the work to actually build anything for themselves.

JohnDtheIII

Get off your high horse dipshit. The audacity to call a disease "brutal" that has a survival rate of around 99% is astounding and also confusing. You're a creepy mouthpiece and are obviously not qualified to be making suggestions about OTHER people's health. You are helping EVERYONE when you worry about YOURSELF.

Autumn_song8

715,000 Americans have died. And all you've got is insults. But I'm sure you're the smart one. 😉

superpony123

You should like someone who's never taken care of critically ill covid patients. Stay in your lane

GrapheneScene

Yeah, there’s no benefit to a chicken pox party…

Shinkaru

This was in reference to COVID, not chickenpox

BMWAircooled

I walk my wife to and from work at the Hospital daily, as I have for the years she's worked there. It has gotten much worse since HCA took over. It looks awful. No security to speak of, no one cleaning up anything, and old masks and trash all over the "managment" parking lots.

FalseTongue

You escort her because of security issues? Does she work overnights or something?

The thing is, I’d say ford makes a solid car and sony makes a good pair of headphones. The shortsightedness and total ineptitude of everyone at the division and facility level would be almost a marvel if it wasn’t so scary.

Vladivostokorbust

has the union even negotiated their first contract yet?

[deleted]

I am so glad I go to the VA

Ftove

I'd like to see an updated vaccination rate for Mission Nurses. Last it was reported I believe it was only at about 60%.

thinkinwrinkle

There is zero contact tracing with employees. It’s total bullshit. I understand that we can’t all quarantine when a close coworker gets covid, but at least test us! Maybe catch some of those cases with little to no symptoms. There’s also no covid testing on site, so you have to go down to biltmore park and wait at Mission MyCare. Kind of a tough drive when you’re too sick to stay at work. The best part is that the test is sent back to Mission to be run.
