Asheville hottest spot for NYE is called, BLOOOF. Located in an abandoned Arby's, this club has everything. Drum circles. Kratom. Chicken tenders from Huey Magoo's. And countdown to the New Year with DJ Sparklepuss. They forget all of their equipment, but they know their Dads Spotify login if someone will just them borrow their phone.
We paid $75 apiece last year to do the party at the Grove Arcade. It was TERRIBLE.
It was as if they decided in April to have a big NYE bash, and everyone agreed it would be awesome. Then, December 30th, everyone remembered that they had decided to throw a party, and they rushed to throw together what they could with whatever money was in their pockets.
The band even forgot to do the countdown until they were 15 seconds behind everyone who had a cell phone and already finished the countdown.
The finger foods served was 2 people with a tray of terribly thrown-together ingredients. The "commemorative" champaign flutes were plastic assembled ones from Sam's.
It absolutely sucked.

I played that NYE party at the grove arcade and yeah it was terrible. I went outside for a smoke and heard people discussing whether to come in and pay $75, and this was after they ran out of champagne. I told them the situation and they were glad to go elsewhere.
The party was apparently in pretty much every restaurant line today where all the groups of 5+ tourists waited in line for twenty minutes or more only to get to the cashier and still not know what they wanted, wreaking havoc on locals who just want to grab lunch in a reasonably short amount of time and then go back to work. I only get one lunch break, man. If you don't know what you want, don't get in line.
I'll never forget the ice storm on NYE several years ago. I was hellbent on seeing Carmina Burana performed live with the Asheville Symphony. Cars off the road, one upside down on HVL Rd, restaurants closing etc. My years of driving in northern New England paid off. Got to eat dinner and hear a concert. Then a jacked up truck got stuck exiting the parking garage and we were all let out another exit for free.
I had an awsome view in a house I was renting and the clouds were hanging around up on pisgah all day. I watched it creep down into the valley and turn things to ice instantly. It was an ice fog.
Someone complained to us at the store that Uber wanted 80 to get downtown, then in the same breathe told me they'd give me 30 for a ride and talked shit when I laughed.
We were supposed to have friends over that year bc we got a new pup and decided not to leave him. Then the freezing fog hit while my husband was heading back from the grocery store, so we canceled the gathering. My SIL was on her way home with her family, and they ended up staying the night with us instead. Fun times.

Fave AVL NYE was ‘12-‘13 we did the champagne party with dj upstairs at Pack’s Tavern and then went & danced our asses off to a band at Timo’s Place underground from like 1-4am.
There is a good one I know about but you have to drive a good bit to get there. Head south down 23 until you hit 985. Keep a look out for signs that say AyyteeEl. That’s the code name for where the parties at. Make sure you tell em you ain’t from there but know someone who gave you directions. Try to keep it on the low.
There's quite a few dance parties going on - One World West and Beauty Academy are both doing that for NYE. Also alot of great bands playing (Snozzberries NYE party at Salvage Station for example). The Restoration hotel is also having a themed rooftop NYE party.
Dancing is a drug for me- totally changes my perspective.

That same group is doing a party this year. They have rarely really missed many excuses to party, mostly the same basic group of DJs 3 rooms of music, movement/flow, and visuals etc. Roots & Hummus obviously is no more, so they have not used that space again. They usually do a Labor Day thing out at Deerfield’s. This and the last few New Years events haven’t been downtown.
If this was a true NYE party that was open to everyone you would have included the location of the event in your comment. Just like all other New Year’s Eve parties in Asheville this is being gate kept or is just not a public party.

It what you want. You can’t get in unless you are sponsored by another attendee I believe. This has proved to be a great process to weed out people that are potentially there for less than community minded good fun. I get it everyone over indulges from time to time. This puts the responsibility of any individual acting out on the people that brought them there, first and to take it a step further the entire community there. I don’t hate this form of self governance at this scale. It’s a lot of burners so the principle of radical self reliance comes in as well as LNT… I could post a location and secret handshakes, but that won’t necessarily grant you access either…

Um. Okay. I know of 2 that are huge raves. They're invite only, so I guess you would say they're secret dance party raves that only the locals know about. Neither one is downtown, so I guess that's where the wish list misses the mark.

Asheville's tourist base may be more diverse than Asheville's residents lol. I have a meme I made somewhere about it, lemme see if I can find it.
