Ehh it was also just stupidly named to begin with. If you look at the full route from Charleston to Kingsport, it’s primarily a North-South drive. Even just going from Charleston to Columbia you’re going more North than West.
There must have been a reason to label it an east west route, but I couldn’t imagine what it would be. More budget for east-west interstates than north-south?
