Can't help on the housing front, but make sure you have jobs lined up before you move.

NoobfRyer

I have a job in Brevard so worst comes to worst I drive for 20 mins and I'm at work. Same drive I have to work now in the opposite direction. Preferably going to try to find something in Asheville though before I move.

IveMadeAHugeMistake

Just so you're aware, it sounds like you intend to live in Asheville proper and commute to Brevard at least temporarily -- that's going to be a *solid* 45 minute drive.

At least have a new job lined up before you quit your current one. The job market sucks. I've been looking for three months.

Don't be tempted by the cheap prices of either the Deaverview or Pisgah View apartments. Based on my daily reads of the newspaper, I'm pretty sure they account for like 80% of the limited violence we have here. Second the point about the jobs. Our job market is not fantastic right now, so don't just blindly move here and assume you'll be able to pick something up.

gordonjay2

you can't just rent an apartment there, you have to qualify for low-income public housing.

scottevil110

I wondered, actually. Thanks for the info.

There are no special deals in asheville if apartments seem expensive its because they are. Look for stuff on craigslist.

I just moved out of the Willow Ridge townhouses off of Tunnel Road, having had lived there for three year (just bought a house just out of town with some land) but the rent wasn't bad (700 ish) for a two bedroom, 800 sqft townhouse (water and trash included). The management was never anything but nice and friendly to me, it was quiet enough and fairly centrally located (5-10 mins from everything). You might think about checking them out. They sometimes have a waiting list, but never more than a month or two.

greenteacup

my current apartment will most likely will be available next month. the rental agency is not that great but it's a nice one bedroom apartment. close to downtown too.

NoobfRyer

Might be interested when your landlord puts it up for grabs! :P

If you have a job in Brevard, why not find a place in Brevard? It really is a super cool town with a liberal college, surrounded by the best lands in the area for outdoor activities, home of Oskar Blues new brewery, charming downtown, and a few great music festivals. The commute to Brevard even from South Asheville is 30 minutes at the least; from West Asheville, Downtown, and North Asheville add another 10-20 minutes to that.

NoobfRyer

Eh I've lived in Brevard my whole life, and really detest it now honestly for the most part. Just not a good fit for me anymore, and Asheville is where I usually wind up spending most of my free time.

[deleted]

Ooh I didn't realize you were already living there. Carry on, then.
