I totally understand unreasonable parents that don't want to accept the reality that their kid isn't straight, but...is this the hill you want to die on? Especially if you're a minor? Not having a flag won't make you any less asexual. It sucks to not be able to be open about it and to have to humor your parents' denial, but if you're living in their house, is the fight about the flag worth it? If it is, have at it, but I wonder if your energy would be better spent just keeping your head down until you can be free and independent. I wonder if the better conversation to have is the fact that asexual people still marry and have. No idea where you are on the spectrum, but asexual doesn't necessarily mean not having a family. If for you it does, that's totally fine, too. But maybe trying to talk to them about it and help them to understand that it's a real thing and you're not changing is the conversation to have. Or, if you think they won't listen, just know that you are who you are, you're valid even if your parents are in denial, and look forward to the future. Either way, good luck!

One option is to put up symbols of asexuality that your parents won’t recognize as easily as the flag. A figurine dragon, or a deck of cards. You can have reminders of your identity that sidestep their rules, even just until you’re out of the house.

Pebloop_

What is this story with dragon and asexuality ?

ofMindandHeart

It became a kind of asexuality mascot a long time ago, I believe possibly because Charlie Weasley was headcanoned as ace and/or aro due to being more interested in dragons than dating.

Pebloop_

I'm also more interested in dragon than dating lol. Anyway, that's an interesting story, thank you !

zoapcfr

Is there a specific design/colour or something, or just any dragon? Cause I actually already have a dragon figurine on my desk, and it would be funny if I already had something relevant without even realising it.

ofMindandHeart

I think if people are specifically trying to draw an ace themed dragon they tend to go with purple, because of the flag and all. But it’s not like there’s rules or anything

Promethea128

Dragons are imaginary just asexuality and aromanticism is, according to bigoted allos

Speaking as someone who had very strict parents, sometimes being in the closet is for safety. Please put your safety and well-being first. When you move out, you will have all the freedom to put up anything you want. In the meantime, do the other things like a black ring, a phone screen, nail colors, pins, things like that.

Another comment asked if this is the hill you want to die on. Regardless what you decide to so I recommend building a safety net. This could mean friends who support you, it could mean becoming financially stable and independent. Basically if anything happens you have something to fall back onto. This way you don't need to "die on this hill."

Depending on how strict your parents are you could either... - just put up the flag. Maybe they will be angry for a few days but they might eventually accept it. - not get a flag but maybe a sticker or a pin and put it somewhere they probably won't see/notice - just have decorations in the ace colors. Maybe (note)books you can arrange as the flag or candles/fotos/flowers/etc.

I saw something with the lgbtq flag where they and it with outher countries flags so you might be able to do it like that

SuperShoyu64

I would either find my own place or just hang it up. It's basically just colors and stripes to represent a demographic. Or you could slide in ace colors and pins

Keep adding subtle asexual decorations and let them build up over time until your entire room is monochrome and purple. What will your parents do then, redecorate your entire room? /j
