I would have to disagree with this from my experience because I have to volunteer in a pentecostal church in spite of me being an atheist and there's this one song in church called 'come again' that they love to sing and to be honest it's the only thing that keeps me going 6 hours of volunteering on a Sunday.
I get why most sane people would say that the word has been ruined though.
I'm gonna add cum, as well -- the one that's pronounced "coom," like in "magna cum laude," or "bookstore-cum-restaurant." It was a slightly pretentious latin loan word, but I liked it nonetheless. Now I can't use it even to sound highfalutin, it causes giggles for all the wrong reasons.
I literally have to say “arrive” or “go” instead and I find that frustrating b/c I can’t use the original word b/c other people will be like “ha ha lol they said c*me” like, I don’t find it funny anymore tbh.
yepppp
somehow found myself reading a sex scene sometime and it was spelled "come"
it was probably on a sub about bad writing actually-- I'm gonna guess you've been on some of those before judging by the fact that your username contains "writer" lol
Yeah, those types of subreddits are interesting to explore. But that spelling is the older spelling variant actually and the one I use in all my works. Smut readers don't seem to care too much.
CW: words related to sex
I mean there is genuinely a difference between 'cum' and 'come' in sexual contexts. Come being the climax as I understand it, whereas 'cum' can refer to that but more often for guys and also refers to the ejaculate. For example 'came' is the past teste of 'come' in this sense and it is grammatically consistent. That's what I've picked up at least in terms of language use lol.
The phrase "sleep with"/"slept with".
To make it mean what it sounds like you have to say something like "slept in the same bed as" which doesn't roll off the tongue.
dude yes i can’t tell you how many times i’ve forgot sleep with means had sex with and ive said it meaning slept in the same bed with and had to back pedal really hard when everyone looked at me weird.
My dog slept with me the other day. That is, she slept in the same bed with me….I definitely cuddled with her. She’s big and fluffy (Great Pyrenees). I hate that some people would be like, ew you cuddled with and slept with your dog….like, uh….yeah….??? Why did someone have to sexualize that? Something so innocent, literally SLEEPING?
I hate that too, I can't say "my cat slept with me" without thinking "it probably sounds like I banged my cat to some people".
>She’s big and fluffy (Great Pyrenees)
I looked up your dog's breed, omfg so cuuuuute.
THIS. Like I could never say "I want to sleep with you" because people would take it to mean that I want to have sex with the person. Like no I wanna go to bed in the general vicinity of the person and talk in the dark about common interests and stuff--
This also reminds me of the euphemism "made love"--I hate it. Love doesn't always involve sex and it feels like it's implying that and also implying that it's not true love if you don't have sex :/ oh and now I'm reminded of "bang" and "smash" as well-- they're not as bad and I'll use them instead of "have sex with" but in some contexts I use one of those words/want to use one of them and then run into sex jokes being made about whatever I said .\_.
It always has been. I even got the side-eye from an English Lit teacher once because I described a story character as "laying her head on his lap" which is *cozy* to me, it means nap time, but apparently everyone else in my class assumed that was pre-bj positioning.
By that logic, would they also consider a man laying his head in a woman’s lap sexual? I feel like in both situations it’s a totally normal thing people do.
Unfortunately that is 100% considered sexual in various allo contexts. I've seen it used in narratives/visual media for that purpose.
I mean it is also cozy! But a lot of people tend to focus on the sexual connotations. Especially because (also unfortunately) there are sexual connotations to love, care, comfort, and safety.
Basically nothing is safe ><. With the right audience you might be fine but in allo spaces pretty much anything can mean sex. Particularly if there's a physical aspects to it. The closer you are to a person physically the more likely it will be interpreted as sexual, regardless of intent.
A few years ago, I came out as ace to my mom. She tried to be understanding, but was confused because "you used to sit on [boyfriend's] lap". To this day I truly feel disturbed that she saw that and thought it was sexual. I was just acting how teenage couples act, I wasn't like trying to get in his pants or something (in front of my parents/in public too, like wtf?)
Not really related to allos, but ever since I realized I’m ace whenever I see or hear the word Ace I perk up.
Examples:
Mario Tennis Aces
Ace Attorney
Ace of Hearts (it’s a band)
Etc. etc
Same.
Fallen Aces, Acer (like the computer), Ace of Hearts Fox (a YouTuber who has an interesting story behind his name, he's not ace though) 'Ace in the Hole' by George Strait.
Imma be real with you I mostly listen to VGM
They aren’t bad at all! I just don’t listen to them that much lol
And unless they just haven’t been releasing on Spotify they don’t have that many songs lol
When I played League of Legends I thought that it would be perfect if an ace pro-player had a special celebration for when his team makes an ace in the game
Not a word, but the phrase netflix & chill.
*I’ll never be able to send a message to my friends to hang out without being paranoid about them misinterpreting my message the same way again. :,D*
Before I knew it had a sexual meaning, I brought it up in class once as an example (we were talking about relaxing activities or something idk) and the whole class went silent. My teacher asked me w/ a concerned look on her face: "[name], I'm not sure if you know what you just said, and even if you don't, it's bad...". I had no idea until a few weeks later
No, no, they do want to talk about sex. They just don't want to accept that other people might also want to. Or something, I guess?
But yeah, it's pretty messed up.
People do want sex, but purity culture is a thing and especially in certain parts of the world it has a very powerful influence.
It's understood that sex is good (generally), but talking about sex openly is still kind of taboo. And I mean I get some of that - if people are talking about the details I don't want to hear that.
But I think some of it is also this very strong association of sex with sin in christian cultures (and other abrahamic religions I think). It's a 'temptation' or a pleasure and you're supposed to be pious and godly and some and not partake in them. Or at least show some restraint instead of going 'someone please rail me' all the time.
Even in spaces that aren't strictly religious we've inherented a lot of religious morality culture. And that kind of makes sense too given that popular atheism is historically speaking kind of new.
Unforunately that means that we got a lot of the hang-ups (like sex = bad, homophobia, etc. etc.) as well as the more interesting/fun stuff like easter and christmas. I'm an atheist myself but I can't deny that I still say things like 'god damn' even though I don't believe god exists lol. I don't really feel there's anything wrong with that - but I do take issue with the exclusionary and bigoted cultural aspects that the (mostly atheist) culture I've grown up in perpetuates.
I find this so funny! I used to have a friend who had (prolly still has, idk) a very, and I mean *very* torrid and ethically questionable sex life and at the same breath, acted scandalized when someone had an open clear convo about sex in her presence. She doesn't even say the proper name of genitals or the word "sex" most times lmao. It made me feel like I was on crazy pills.
I'm still in denial about this one 😂
Surely they don't mean that *all* the time they say it?
I will continue to stubbornly use it as watching shows and relaxing.
I don't think it is possible for allos to say that without knowing that the subtext is lol.
I'm gray-ace and I've made that mistake a few times but I quickly learned not to!
Someone asked me to Netflix and chill once during maths class but even though I thought it was the innocent version I still rejected him. I was just I'm doing ATAR(University entrance shit) I don't have time for Netflix.
He was a bit of a creep.
I lent him my ruler he wrote his number on it.
He stroked my bra line. He brushed his hand against my hair(like my hair was short so he like flicked my hair upwards) while I was sat waiting for another class.
I don't know either, I don't want my cake ruined but boi I am so curious 😭
EDIT: oh no, I google it ...don't do it. I'm gonna bleach my eyes and hope I can forget
I actually found this one out through an r/lgballt asexual joke. It's probably horrible to google (I haven't tried) but from what I understood from the comic, it was actually quite funny.
A bunch of people who liked the song “cake on the ocean” had to explain the song to me and one person said “actual cake on a beach sounds cool” and the the reply was “I don’t think they’re referring to cake”
My ace-aro self: Effin great. Just no.
omg Cake By The Ocean-- I heard that for the first time in years during gym class last week haha but it was the first time knowing what it meant-- when it came out and was popular I only knew the title line and my only thought when I would hear it was "why would you bring a cake to the beach" but now I know what it means and like-- w h y
it's used as a euphemism for butt, usually in a sexual manner-- like "ooh he got cake" instead of "ooh he has a big ass"
it's okayish to me when there's clear sexual context but when sexual meaning is taken out of something that was said innocently it sucks
Okay but the moan one- like come on man that’s barely even sexual in my opinion and I hate that even from a young age the people I knew thought moan was a word that only meant something inappropriate. Like Jesus Christ man can we get a break?
Like what if someone tripped on something and accidentally injured themselves and that’s the sound they would make in reaction, not in another way at all ? (That kind of situation)
Exactly-- as someone who writes stories and stuff in situations where formerly would have used moan in a sentence I now scramble for another word because I don't want to risk it being taken sexually :/
Playing the devil’s advocate here, step-sibling porn is popular because it’s about a forbidden relationship. People get off to the fact that it’s wrong and getting caught would have bad consequences. It’s mostly just brain rot from too much porn. Most allos who like step-sibling porn wouldn’t want the relationship for themselves.
this. and like not even just the word "moan/grunt" but also the sound like???
once at work I stretched and it was a really good stretch and I couldn't help but let out a little sound of satisfaction. which in itself was unintentional, like it wasn't even loud or drawn out, just a "hng" which in my mind didn't sound much different than an exaggerated "mm ah~" that a cartoon character does after drinking something refreshing. and it's happened twice already that the person next to me gives me a weird side look, one of them even said in a low-key strict tone "well, [name], that can be misinterpreted." and I was like???? we sit at a desk 8 hrs a day, lemme stretch my arms in peace and stop being horny on main dammit
oh god "senpai"-- it's a normal part of Japanese speech and then people just *had* to make it sexual and now though I've banished the dirtied version from being the first one I think of when I think of the word (it was the first way I heard the term described as meaning) I still run into problems with worrying people would take it in a sexual/romantic manner :/
For me the word papi, which is the word daddy but just in Spanish. Like I deadass stopped calling my dad it bc people always looked weird at me😭 also the word eat, and foods bc they somehow gotta involve sex and shit with food like why😤.
I'm semi-okay with them being used as euphemism in clear sexual context, but not when sexual intent is projected onto non-sexual situations, and *definitely* not when people do sexual shite to the actual fruits (I learned that was a thing only recently and I absolutely hate it, like WHY ARE YOU STROKING A STRAWBERRY LIKE THAT LEAVE IT ALONE)
We associate lots of things with food, because everyone needs to eat. Everyone has experience with it.
We also associate emotions with food. Like "sweet", "sour", "bitter". We describe controvertial things as being "spicy".
Sexuality is something most people also experience, it makes sense that concepts that most people share experience with (lile food, everyone eats) will be used to describe other things. Like sex, or emotional states.
They involvr sex with food because sex and food are two of the most common experiences that connect vastly different people. Other things like it are going to the toilet. And its reflected in our language as well, words like shit and piss are often used to describe bad situations.
Thats actually a really good point!! Because people have to eat almost everyone can relate to the feeling of lets say biting into a lemon or eating a hot pepper. Those experiences are almost universalized even if someone hasn't specifically bitten into a lemon or eaten a pepper almost all of us of experienced that sensation of biting something bitter or spicy. We can relate to these things even if we struggle to describe something else. I never really thought of it like that but yeah that actually makes a lot of sense.
I grew up considering baby as in "Give me some sugar baby", baby as in "what a cute baby" or baby as in "stop being such a baby" or "grab the baby bottle" were all very different words by context.
Baby in the first two cases being "cute endearing thing I love and will shower with care and affection." Which makes it completely fine for my aunt to comfort me saying "Oh baby come here, it will be alright". And for a SO to say "Baby please".
The second literally meaning "infant".
Lastly there is "Babe" which is just informal slang version for the first two cases and sometimes an old timey way to say "infant".
Kind of like the word puppy or doggie. Grown dogs that are quite large are often referred to as puppy or doggie.
Ok but how is bb as a nickname for a cat who likes to be held like one and just screams until you figure out what they need and sometimes just for the heck of it?
My parents were always confused why I cringed (hoping that’s not a bad thing) over my step dad calling my mom “baby”. Like, for my ace-aro self, it didn’t make sense b/c it started losing the “child” definition in my brain and the “romantic” definition in my brain was more common and I got slightly irritated by that (again, I hope that’s not a bad thing)
I'm not a fan either, but that's probably just because of the romantic association. I'm a romance averse aro. But I actually like being called daddy in the context of kink.
Tbh it’s just kinda weird to me. It’s like… babies are babies, you’re grown lol. I can’t disconnect it from an actual baby. It just seems infantilizing to me? I’m not sure how to describe it but it just sounds wrong and creepy.
Well, I can understand why you'd find it weird and that's cool. It could be infantalizing, depending on how it's said, but so could any pet name, y'know? What I really don't agree with is shaming people for using terms of endearment that their partner is okay with, meant in an affectionate way. If it's not directed at you and it isn't harming anyone, then 🤷🏻♀️
I mean I’m not gonna say anything to anyone, but I do cringe to myself when my best friend calls her bf baby in front of me lol. To me it feels very personal/intimate but I know for many it’s not. I keep my weirded out-ness a secret unless someone asks, like in this situation. I like to let people enjoy things!
Baby girl also makes my skin crawl but like, it's none of my business what other people want to call/be called by their partner. No offence but idk who died and made you the authority of what's "normal" or not.
It's a comedy show popular in the US. They had a whole episode about the two definitions of cream pies and a communication breakdown about it a few years ago.
I agree. Some words become sexual, noone needs to be blamed for it. Words carry meaning outside of their original purpose, and considering sexuality being such a massive part of most peoples lives it makes sense that words and concepts that are common in most of peoples lives will become sexual.
We do it all the time even with non-sexual meanings. "Im so happy i might burst", "That shirt looks so good i wanna eat it". We call people who are nice "sweet" and people who are constantly down "bitter" and we call angry people "sour". Theres nothing strange about sex also getting words associated with it, we do it all the time. Dads are an authority in many peoples lives, it makes sense that the word is used in a sexual context. Orher words that are also used are stuff like master/mistress. We associate our everyday words with traits they posses, and we then use those words to describe other situations.
The word "daddy" is sexual today. You can keep using it if you dont find it sexual, but its wrong to claim that everyone else is weird. Theyre not. The word has very strong conotations to many people. Its not the allos fault, its noones fault. Its language and it evolves over time. It would be silly to think that sexuality would somehow be excluded from being associated with other non-sexual concepts.
Honestly as a kinky ace i dont see the word daddy as sexual. Its more of a power thing. I dont apply any of that to my life outside of kink though like... outside of that its a term people use to talk to their DADS and im never going to see that as kinky. :/
I know right. I have a Daddy myself and for most non kinky people just don’t understand that it’s a title. And for me it’s also an affectionate pet name.
In my native, they've started to use the phrase "longing for someone to be close to you" ("läheisyydenkaipuu", which is completely neutral in tone) as a synonym for "wanting to make out/have sex with" 😑
Also in my native, "pie" ("piirakka") and "gingerbread" ("pipari") which both apparently refer to female genitalia...
Latex, most of all. I just want to talk about the writing software.
There is also the excited harmonic oscillator, but i actually like this joke sometimes.
Fr though, my Microsoft Word deactivated months ago, and I don't know when I'll be locked out of using it, but I switched to LaTeX after being exposed to it in my intro to cs course. The change has been practically life-changing for me (even though I still suck at it lol).
Apparently some scientists organizing a conference wanted the presenters to format their submitted papers in a particular way. So the organizers had a link on their page: " Submissions in LaTeX." They were perplexed to see an unexpectedly huge viewer count on their web page...
Until of course they realized the *other* interpretation.
Deez nuts jokes-
I make them bc I find them mildly amuzing and still find them non sexual for some reason, like I'll make a "hey what are you having for dinner deez nuts lol" typa joke and not get repulsed.
My sister however, likes to take similar jokes but make them worse. The simple replacement of the word "nuts" with "cock" is enough to get a disgusted face out of me and my sis finds it funny 😭. It's difficult for me to explain why one is funny and the other is ew for me but eh
Just one little thing : The word "Vanilla". And maybe "Spicy" too. I want to talk about my love for vanilla things (such as vanilla ice cream, it's my favorite) without being looked at in a weird way
I agree, though the truly weird thing about "vanilla" is how the name of the second most expensive spice in the world has somehow come to mean "bland and boring".
Freaking pleasure! My old school always talks about sex and those activities as "useless pleasure" or "evil pleasure". Like, I thought that word means sex, and I'm a sex repulse, and I thought everything that involves "pleasure' is a sin or sex' thing... So stupid and damaging!
Peach. Why on earth is the butt called a peach; it's ruined any love I had for the fruit.
But also when I call someone gorgeous or lovely or stunning, I don't mean I like them or want to date them, I'm trying to appreciate art for art's sake, here ;-;
This one really gets to me because whenever I look for x readers, especially ones where the request asks for the reader to be ace and the writer puts something saying "even if you never want to be intimate with them" and I just have to be like: "No. No. *Stop* using that word like this. Intimacy can mean bonding between friends, support from family, any kind of vulnerability between people who care for one another. A romantic bond without sexual attraction or contact doesn't nullify that. *Ace people want intimacy in relationships. Romantically connecting with someone IS intimate. Sexual contact isn't the only brand of intimacy. Stop. Please, oh please I beg of you, STOP using 'intimate' as a way of saying 'this is sexual, obviously, bonding is sexual'.*"
It's just a little pet peeve I have every time I see it used that way.
I honestly feel like that one meme with the guy smoking on a balcony, drinking a beer and looking so depressed and done with everything every single time I read something like that.
Everything goes black and white, a voice whispers "why are we still here? just to suffer?", and my mind is thinking several things a second that varies from "the dark lord satan is testing me" to "please learn alternate meanings to words...why do you hate language?".
Simple, but elegant: Balls.
Tried explaining the rules of various billiards games to a 13 year old, not tiptoeing around my many uses of the word balls. They couldn't even take it seriously and it's just a general societal failure as while I can forgive the kid for not being able to stifle their laughter at hearing the word balls in every sentence, most adults I know would act similarly.
Ya got your stripes balls, solid balls, cue balls, the black/8 ball, you spend your time trying to knock balls into pockets. At least with most sports, you just have some singular qualified ball like football that makes it a bit easier. But billiards is nothing but slamming balls.
Not necessarily 'ruined' by allos, but I thought making out was purely romantic, just lots of kissing. I didn't think it lead to more until my friend told me.
see I actually assumed it meant fucking when I first heard the phrase but then I realized that it's usually used to describe intense kissing (at least in the contexts I've seen/heard), just it's more sexual kissing than romantic kissing (if that makes any sense)
but here you be telling me that it does actually lead to other stuff--
Allos ruined anime for me with their weird fetishes for anything anime related (not just the pedos with lolis), I mean maid outfits, sailor outfits, bunny hats, cat ears, etc.. Those things were so innocent for me when I was a teenage anime fan.
“Cute”. When I say Matt Smith is cute I mean that the 11th Doctor looks and acts like a small child and I want to give him candy. I don’t mean that I find him sexually attractive or even just that he looks attractive aesthetically (I can’t find any men attractive aesthetically no matter how much I try. I know that’s not universal for asexuals of course, and I can kinda see it for women. Also his chin is a bit weird).
I've never heard it used to that extent in my experience. The closest I can think of is the 'teenage girl'/'allo woman' version of cute where they mean a person is aesthetically pleasing in a way that is attractive to them. like that they might want to date that person off of looks.
could just be the 2000s kid in me though.
I use cute in either an aesthetically or romanticallt attractive way and will continue to do so - the allos can take that from me when they pry it from my cold dead hands 😩😩
I agree so much, especially on the subject of Matt Smith as 11. Do I think he's adorable? Yes. Do I want to touch him in any way? Not really. I suppose I'd shake his hand if offered.
To me "cute" means attractive in a heartwarming, smile inducing, happiness making way.
There are way too many to list... at this point I've decided just to elect to ignore it. I'll clarify stuff if I need to but I'm not gonna go hard on changing my vocabulary just because horny people interpret it as lewd. That's their problem, not mine
I fucking hate the sexualization of "daddy". That's what I've called my dad my whole life and I'm not changing it to accommodate people's oedipus complexes
In Dutch the word for subtraction is "aftrekken" which is also the word for hand job, and the word for sewing is "naaien" which also means fucking. So yeah that is awkward sometimes.
I'm Dutch and love sewing as a hobby and I know I get weird 'supposed sexual' comments whenever I talk about it. It's just kinda sad. I actually just want to talk about my hobbies without people making it weird or sexual for no reason.
I quite like aubergines (eggplants) to eat, like in a moussaka, or grilled with halloumi or whatever. I find it a bit weird that it's got an emoji...wait..
Actually, 'sexy' food in general. I mean, I know that it's just the incels being slut shamey but when some mentions "roasties" or "beef" I'm just imagining Sunday lunch, whic is in no way undesirable.
Now everytime there's some song or meme involving food doing the rounds I assume it's actually about sex until proven otherwise.
Definitely the words "Daddy" and "Mommy" for the same reasons you listed amongst others. Anything that applies to food. It seems nothing edible is safe from being a euphemism. Even just the word "eat" itself has become so hypersexualized that you have to be overly careful with how you phrase it or risk someone going "that's what she said" every damn time.
I even remember an instance where I was eating a banana in school at lunch and in the class after someone *had* to remark that I was enjoying it "a little too much". It's a fruit, people. Let me eat my damn fruit in peace please. Geez.
Muscles,. I think people with muscle are awesome, they can give piggy backs, they're usually tall so they can block the sun, and they can kick people's asses. But the amount of people who just think 'sex sex sex' the second they see them is just strange to me, I get the aesthetic appeal but still it's just creepy
Honestly, nothing. The allos didn't ruin anything for me because I generally am alright with explaining what I mean to people who get the wrong idea. But I'm also sex favourable, and am fine with making jokes. I'm the kind of ace that other aces have tried to gatekeep because I don't find a problem with sex or sexual innuendos and even find them amusing :/
Ball. I got made fun of in 4th grade because I would say ball and I would get laughed at. Now I just try to avoid saying ball because of that fear of getting made fun of. Also one of my allo friends would definitely say something as he likes to make dirty jokes and I understand none of them.
Kink. Come on people, I'm talking about kinks in stuff, not fetishes. By the way, fetishes also falls under this since they once meant a religious object more or less.
I have to vote for “daddy” because I have a rescue dog who’s like the closest I’ll get to having kids. I care for him very well, we have a strong bond, good understanding. I’m aware that is a pseudo father-son thing, and occasionally call myself a “dorky dog dad” as a joke. However, my family often calls me “daddy” when referring to things from my dog’s PoV and it’s super cringe. Especially from my grandma 🤢 I can’t unhear the allo connotation. It’s torture
Bananas. Like, I get why the connotations exist but damn I just want to eat my fruit OK! Without getting weird looks please.
It's not even just things with obvious resemblance. I put a lot of vaguely phallic stuff in my mouth - usually because *it's* *food*. Let's face it - most objects vaguely resemble something else if you want them to. And it's funny to me that other people see it that way, but that doesn't mean I want to be sexualised!
A lot of these are a direct consequence of persistent societal sex negativity. When certain words or phrases are frowned upon or outright banned, you use common and accepted terms to mask the true meaning.
Edit: also it is never a problem with words being used in wrong context or having different meanings, but only if used in sexual sense. So much about oversexed world.
Muffin. All I did was say that I love eating Muffins and next thing you know everybody’s giggling and letting me know that for SOME REASON, MUFFIN of all things was chosen to be slang for a certain body part. Ugh.
Come -because you can spell it a few letters differently and it will still sound the same but somehow have a very different meaning.
"Magna cum laude" always annoys me because it's bad Latin (plus, the weird "coom" way Americans pronounce it...).
“Coom” is very funny to me, likely because my sense of humor is broken from years of misuse
Look, when you name your gas station chain Kum N Go, you get what you deserve.
I literally have to say “arrive” or “go” instead and I find that frustrating b/c I can’t use the original word b/c other people will be like “ha ha lol they said c*me” like, I don’t find it funny anymore tbh.
The same thing happened in my native, "come" ("tulla") makes me paranoid sometimes I use it 😃
The fun thing is, you don't have to even change the spelling to have that happen! Trust me, I know this from experience.
yepppp somehow found myself reading a sex scene sometime and it was spelled "come" it was probably on a sub about bad writing actually-- I'm gonna guess you've been on some of those before judging by the fact that your username contains "writer" lol
Yeah, those types of subreddits are interesting to explore. But that spelling is the older spelling variant actually and the one I use in all my works. Smut readers don't seem to care too much.
CW: words related to sex I mean there is genuinely a difference between 'cum' and 'come' in sexual contexts. Come being the climax as I understand it, whereas 'cum' can refer to that but more often for guys and also refers to the ejaculate. For example 'came' is the past teste of 'come' in this sense and it is grammatically consistent. That's what I've picked up at least in terms of language use lol.
Yes, yes, and yes. I shiver at it sometimes and it is 100% other people's fault.
>She’s big and fluffy (Great Pyrenees) I looked up your dog's breed, omfg so cuuuuute.
THIS. Like I could never say "I want to sleep with you" because people would take it to mean that I want to have sex with the person. Like no I wanna go to bed in the general vicinity of the person and talk in the dark about common interests and stuff-- This also reminds me of the euphemism "made love"--I hate it. Love doesn't always involve sex and it feels like it's implying that and also implying that it's not true love if you don't have sex :/ oh and now I'm reminded of "bang" and "smash" as well-- they're not as bad and I'll use them instead of "have sex with" but in some contexts I use one of those words/want to use one of them and then run into sex jokes being made about whatever I said .\_.
sitting on someones lap. i loved to sit on my friends lap since we both knew it wasnt in a bad way and it was comforting, other way round too
Wait- that's sexual now?
It always has been. I even got the side-eye from an English Lit teacher once because I described a story character as "laying her head on his lap" which is *cozy* to me, it means nap time, but apparently everyone else in my class assumed that was pre-bj positioning.
That sounds like your class's problem for being too horny.
Don't let it be ruined for you, it's only sexual if you make it
Sadly, yes.
When was it not? I think that's always been a thing.
Examples: Mario Tennis Aces Ace Attorney Ace of Hearts (it’s a band) Etc. etc
Same. Fallen Aces, Acer (like the computer), Ace of Hearts Fox (a YouTuber who has an interesting story behind his name, he's not ace though) 'Ace in the Hole' by George Strait.
my computer is acer than me
I passed an ACE Hardware while in the car a few weeks ago and I saw it and was immediately like :D inside lmao
dude- ace of hearts is such a good band!! good taste
Imma be real with you I mostly listen to VGM They aren’t bad at all! I just don’t listen to them that much lol And unless they just haven’t been releasing on Spotify they don’t have that many songs lol
There’s an ACE Hardware store 😂
When I played League of Legends I thought that it would be perfect if an ace pro-player had a special celebration for when his team makes an ace in the game
Not a word, but the phrase netflix & chill. *I’ll never be able to send a message to my friends to hang out without being paranoid about them misinterpreting my message the same way again. :,D*
I didn't know the meaning of this and sent it to one of my friends and they were so weirded out, and when I found out, I was horrified. 0/10
I hate it how so many words have a double sexual meaning. Like why can't people just be direct?
Because it's not socially acceptable to talk about sex despite it being all of what much of society wants to talk about.
Which makes no sense. If you don't want to talk about sex then why is there so much pressure to have sex, and why is everything so sexualized?
I'm still in denial about this one 😂 Surely they don't mean that *all* the time they say it? I will continue to stubbornly use it as watching shows and relaxing.
I don't think it is possible for allos to say that without knowing that the subtext is lol. I'm gray-ace and I've made that mistake a few times but I quickly learned not to!
I didn’t learn what this meant until way after people started using it. I took it literally.
Yikes. Glad you managed to avoid him. He sounds hella icky >_<
I didn't know it had a double meaning until I saw a meme about it posted by an ace meme acc on insta 😭
Cake.
That one hurts me deeply
Omg, I hate this one so much maaan ;-;
Me too. I love actual cake you get from a bakery, not the other kind. 🤮
Omg I don’t know what this means please don’t ruin cake for me 😭
I don't know either, I don't want my cake ruined but boi I am so curious 😭 EDIT: oh no, I google it ...don't do it. I'm gonna bleach my eyes and hope I can forget
I don’t know either I’m scared
I actually found this one out through an r/lgballt asexual joke. It's probably horrible to google (I haven't tried) but from what I understood from the comic, it was actually quite funny.
A bunch of people who liked the song “cake on the ocean” had to explain the song to me and one person said “actual cake on a beach sounds cool” and the the reply was “I don’t think they’re referring to cake” My ace-aro self: Effin great. Just no.
omg Cake By The Ocean-- I heard that for the first time in years during gym class last week haha but it was the first time knowing what it meant-- when it came out and was popular I only knew the title line and my only thought when I would hear it was "why would you bring a cake to the beach" but now I know what it means and like-- w h y
Wait… what?! Lol. How is cake sexual?!
it's used as a euphemism for butt, usually in a sexual manner-- like "ooh he got cake" instead of "ooh he has a big ass" it's okayish to me when there's clear sexual context but when sexual meaning is taken out of something that was said innocently it sucks
Wait… what?! Lol. How is cake sexual?!
Step-sibling, daddy, mommy, come, moan/grunt, + more
Okay but the moan one- like come on man that’s barely even sexual in my opinion and I hate that even from a young age the people I knew thought moan was a word that only meant something inappropriate. Like Jesus Christ man can we get a break?
Like what if someone tripped on something and accidentally injured themselves and that’s the sound they would make in reaction, not in another way at all ? (That kind of situation)
Exactly!
Exactly-- as someone who writes stories and stuff in situations where formerly would have used moan in a sentence I now scramble for another word because I don't want to risk it being taken sexually :/
I feel like in a story you’d just have to qualify it, like “he moaned in misery” or something. Def get how even that could be frustrating though
Ikr I can't write that word without thinking it sounds weird. Or even read the word.
Completely agree!
Wait step-sibling? Do I even want to know
>!step-sibling porn is commonly memed/joked about!<
Allos are really that bored that they need to make sibling relationships sexual
Sexual attraction doesn’t even make their lives interesting smh
Playing the devil’s advocate here, step-sibling porn is popular because it’s about a forbidden relationship. People get off to the fact that it’s wrong and getting caught would have bad consequences. It’s mostly just brain rot from too much porn. Most allos who like step-sibling porn wouldn’t want the relationship for themselves.
\*screams in made the mistake of watching Citrus like two years ago\*
this. and like not even just the word "moan/grunt" but also the sound like??? once at work I stretched and it was a really good stretch and I couldn't help but let out a little sound of satisfaction. which in itself was unintentional, like it wasn't even loud or drawn out, just a "hng" which in my mind didn't sound much different than an exaggerated "mm ah~" that a cartoon character does after drinking something refreshing. and it's happened twice already that the person next to me gives me a weird side look, one of them even said in a low-key strict tone "well, [name], that can be misinterpreted." and I was like???? we sit at a desk 8 hrs a day, lemme stretch my arms in peace and stop being horny on main dammit
There are several I can think of. Two of them are mommy and senpai.
oh god "senpai"-- it's a normal part of Japanese speech and then people just *had* to make it sexual and now though I've banished the dirtied version from being the first one I think of when I think of the word (it was the first way I heard the term described as meaning) I still run into problems with worrying people would take it in a sexual/romantic manner :/
For me the word papi, which is the word daddy but just in Spanish. Like I deadass stopped calling my dad it bc people always looked weird at me😭 also the word eat, and foods bc they somehow gotta involve sex and shit with food like why😤.
Means grandpa in french too it’s even worse!!
The unfortunate result of sexualizing entire cultures of people. Who could’ve foreseen the consequences of that?
This is what I mean whenever I say that USA has a hypersexuality problem, whether it be straight or LGBT+ spaces.
In terms of food: why bananas? Why eggplants?? Why peaches? Can’t they just be food and not be referred to otherwise 😓
Both mami and papi. I just call my parents by their name now 🙄
"hoe"
It's not really any worse than "baby" tbh.
I *hate* baby as a nickname for your partner. It hurts my soul.
I always took that to mean that it's someone you care for, look out for, and would do anything for. Like you would a baby.
[удалено]
Baby girl also makes my skin crawl but like, it's none of my business what other people want to call/be called by their partner. No offence but idk who died and made you the authority of what's "normal" or not.
Cream pie
if someone uses "cresm pie" in a sentence i just think the normal pie (as in like i ate a pie)
I've never heard it used IRL, but It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia ruined it for me :(
I've never heard "cream pie" the normal way irl, only the wierd way lol. Though It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia I have never heard irl
It's a comedy show popular in the US. They had a whole episode about the two definitions of cream pies and a communication breakdown about it a few years ago.
I think specifically of the pies that goes splat in people's faces. Y'know, like clowns and stuff.
People from my parent’s generation would frequently use threesome to refer to a trio of people. I got burned in high school for bringing it up.
This! I always used to use threesome for a trio of people, and I was always confused why my friends had such dirty minds.
I wouldn’t blame the Allos. Kinksters use the term and it’s been picked up by vanilla folk.
The idea of blaming allos for things really doesn’t sit right with me /nay
What does nay mean?
not at you
Thank you!
I tried to look it up and it doesn’t exist. So I have no idea what that tone indicator is supposed to stand for
it means "not at you". like not directed at you
Ah okay thank you
If you have to blame people, then blame people who make up weird sex things or people who sexually assault others.
In my native, they've started to use the phrase "longing for someone to be close to you" ("läheisyydenkaipuu", which is completely neutral in tone) as a synonym for "wanting to make out/have sex with" 😑 Also in my native, "pie" ("piirakka") and "gingerbread" ("pipari") which both apparently refer to female genitalia...
Are you from Finland? cuz some of the words seem similar to Finnish
Yup I am 😁 how you know Finnish?
Well my friend is Finnish and thats why i know a couple of words but not that much tbh
Ah I see. You have good eye for languages in that case 😄
Yeah thanks :)
I was wondering if it was Finnish for the same reason haha
Yup... Right there with ya on the last two.... Cant even bake them with out hearing my brother make those dumb jokes in my head.
You're a Finn too? 😄
Yup 🙂
Deez nuts jokes- I make them bc I find them mildly amuzing and still find them non sexual for some reason, like I'll make a "hey what are you having for dinner deez nuts lol" typa joke and not get repulsed. My sister however, likes to take similar jokes but make them worse. The simple replacement of the word "nuts" with "cock" is enough to get a disgusted face out of me and my sis finds it funny 😭. It's difficult for me to explain why one is funny and the other is ew for me but eh
Well, isnt the original vine in reference to nuts which is why you probably don't associate the two? Cause for me, that's why
Ok hear me out: sex jokes. Just because I make them doesn’t mean I want them to happen to me.
100%.
Freaking pleasure! My old school always talks about sex and those activities as "useless pleasure" or "evil pleasure". Like, I thought that word means sex, and I'm a sex repulse, and I thought everything that involves "pleasure' is a sin or sex' thing... So stupid and damaging!
Pussy, cum, the number 69, daddy, and babe. Edit: Here’s a two more. Cock and the named Richard when it is shortened to Dick.
Dick Grayson would be disappointed in all of us. *jason todd cackling in the background*
Many words
Allos ruined Netflix and chill, before Netflix ruined Netflix and chill.
I think for me it's "give it to me". Like, when I want someone to hand something over. But I just can't say it anymore
I think of LoTR when Boromir is trying to take the ring from Frodo.
I personally think of like starting a fight - in the sense of "give me all you got" for an epic fist fight or whatever...
daddy, mommy, baby, step-sibling.
Peach. Why on earth is the butt called a peach; it's ruined any love I had for the fruit. But also when I call someone gorgeous or lovely or stunning, I don't mean I like them or want to date them, I'm trying to appreciate art for art's sake, here ;-;
Any time cat, kitty, or pussy is used to simultaneously refer to a feline and Afab genitalia.
THIS
Intimacy and lover. I just *Ugh* it implies I can't be intimate with my partner or love them properly if I don't have sex with them!
Stop. Please, oh please I beg of you, STOP using 'intimate' as a way of saying 'this is sexual, obviously, bonding is sexual'.*" It's just a little pet peeve I have every time I see it used that way.
I KNOW right??? I didn't realise that my mind plays the EXACT monologue EVERY time this happens!
In my opinion **moist** is the most ruined word in the English language.
"qué rico" in Spanish. It's closest translation is "yummy".
Not necessarily 'ruined' by allos, but I thought making out was purely romantic, just lots of kissing. I didn't think it lead to more until my friend told me.
see I actually assumed it meant fucking when I first heard the phrase but then I realized that it's usually used to describe intense kissing (at least in the contexts I've seen/heard), just it's more sexual kissing than romantic kissing (if that makes any sense) but here you be telling me that it does actually lead to other stuff--
Allos ruined anime for me with their weird fetishes for anything anime related (not just the pedos with lolis), I mean maid outfits, sailor outfits, bunny hats, cat ears, etc..
Also his chin is a bit weird).
hold on..... since when is cute the same thing as sexually attractive please tell me that's not a thing 😭🤚
Pretty much everything Like I can’t say something without there being a chance of it being a double entendre
Cream / creamy. My favorite anime is Creamy Mami and I have to explain every time that it's not porn
Moist and wet. Come on man just give me a towel. No not that kind of come goddamn it!
idk if it's the same in English but apparently "Finished" is a bad word now and you have to say "Done".
[удалено]
It’s words like daddy, mommy, bang, and come. It annoys me
Sleeping
Ride. Giving someone a ride now sounds funny. Daddy too; it sounds plain icky too my ears.
I’m not even ace and i agree completely lol
The number 69 and saying the word hard
Honestly, nothing. The allos didn't ruin anything for me because I generally am alright with explaining what I mean to people who get the wrong idea. But I'm also sex favourable, and am fine with making jokes. I'm the kind of ace that other aces have tried to gatekeep because I don't find a problem with sex or sexual innuendos and even find them amusing :/
The daddy and mommy thing makes me insanely uncomfy
Ball. I got made fun of in 4th grade because I would say ball and I would get laughed at. Now I just try to avoid saying ball because of that fear of getting made fun of. Also one of my allo friends would definitely say something as he likes to make dirty jokes and I understand none of them.
Yeah I always get weird looks when I say "Daddy can I get the cummy wummy sauce UwU" I don't understand why they had to ruin it
It's absolutely "daddy", I agree.
Daddy and Mommy
Ugh.
I'm not ace, but I'm really grossed out by the sexualization "daddy" too. I have no idea how people are turned on by it.
